Hi all,
Apologies if this question/issue has already been discussed, but I did search the forums and couldn't find anything specific to the issue I've been encountering.
I know that when you first boot up/restart your S6 Edge, the typical volume warning pops up when you try to increase the volume with headphones plugged in, but I've been encountering an issue where my Edge's volume will abruptly drop back down to the 'safe' volume (even after dismissing the warning) when I have my headphones in. A basic example is me turning up the volume louder while walking in a loud area (e.g. near heavy traffic) and while walking the volume will reduce and, upon trying to increase it, I'm hit with the volume warning again.
This has only occurred twice since I've had the phone, and I bought it about a month and a half ago (if memory serves), so it's hard to really know if there's any specific thing that's triggering this. Perhaps worth noting is that I also encountered this same issue once before with my Galaxy S4 (phone I owned prior to the Edge).
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and knows whether it's a glitch or some additional 'safety' feature Samsung may have added with a firmware update? If it's the latter, then I'll just accept it; but if it's an actual glitch, any ideas on how to resolve it (short of rooting) would be appreciated. Given it's happened on two Samsung phones, I just can't tell whether it's a glitch or some new feature.
Thanks for your help.
Media Volume
Hello,
I have a similar issue with my s6 edge, also about a month old. The difference is my volume turns down to safe volume while playing via bluetooth and works fine with headphones. Every time I listen with bluetooth the media volume turns down within 10-30 minutes. When i turn it back up it sometimes immediately drops back down and other times waits several minutes before dropping to "safe volume". This issue drives me crazy so I called Samsung and was told it is a new safety feature with the edge and there is no way to disable it, which i have trouble believing because i can't find anybody else on the web complaining about this. If anybody else has had this issue before please tell me what to do to disable. I CANT HEAR MY MUSIC!!
Thank you, Mark
Have the same problem when i listen to music in my car via aux, the volume just drops randomly to a barely audible volume. When i put it back up, it can take 2 minutes to happen again or not at all. I just restored my phone to factory and have the same problem. I'm sure samsung are aware though
On my 3rd S6 after some issues with my other two. Now this one is having the volume issue when plugged into headphones and Bluetooth. I don't get the loud volume warning, volume just decreases. Happens often. If I have to get a 4th S6 I think I'll be done with this phone forever.

I don't think replacing you S6 will do any good. I'm pretty sure this a software problem. Maybe one app we all have installed is interfering with the volume, seems the most logical explanation to me.

It does seem to be a software issue, but it wasn't an issue I had on the previous phones I had. And I don't have any apps on the phone now that I didn't have before, and narrowing down what app we all have that might be the culprit would be incredibly difficult. I've thought about doing a factory reset, but it's so much work to get the phone back up and running.

You forgot one important part. While you might have the same apps, and you might not have had the issue before, the S6 is a COMPLETELY different phone from any previous. First 64bit Samsung, first LPDDR4 RAM, first desktop grade SSD, there are a lot of firsts for the S6. And because of all that, the software had to be completely recoded, and somewhere, somehow, some engineer forgot a comma or an exclamation mark in a line of code and because of that, we are all stuck with that problem until someone finds the origin or samsung patches the bug.
P.S. I've done 2 factory resets in the past 2 week, problem is still here.

I can't explain why but all i know is that I can drive for a few days without encountering the issue and all of a sudden i get my volume lowered 15 times on my way to work. Can't be more random than that.

Yeah, in a 5 hour road trip over the weekend it happened one or twice an hour. Phone also kept closing Google maps. Luckily I didn't get lost lol.

Ive also reset my phone several times, but this has been an issue since it came out of the box. Just like previous galaxy phones some people experience the problem and some don't. Samsung is no help at all on the issue, like I stated, they tried to tell me its a safety precaution which is complete bogus. Why would some s6's do it and others not, also why even give me the option to turn it up if the software is coded to purposely turn it back down. Completely insane. This will be my last Samsung because I dont enjoy being bull****ted on.

Hey man, don't be frustrated because Samsung, and all other major corporations, use tech illiterate agents that follow a script and click on symptoms on their screen as you tell them and offer you, surprise surprise, a generic solution that probably has nothing to do with anything. Those agents are good for old people thats want to know where to connect the wifi cable, or very tech illiterate people, anybody on XDA (or almost) probably has more experience. Thats why I ALWAYS, ALWAYS ask to be put through to level 2 when calling tech support. And if the agent forces you to speak to him before he can escalate the call, just tell them: "My problem is every time a notification appears, my binary systools interfere with the syntax of the coding lines within the mainframe proxy network in a category 6E cable". At that point, he will transfer you., trust me.
Also, when small bugs like these appear with a small number of users, it is pretty much impossible for anybody to help you if the problem is not common enough. Out of maybe the 20 users on XDA, and just for the sake of the argument, 100 other forum users posting about this, how many of us will actually contact Samsung to report the problem. I have had terrible service over the phone, but one day i tweeted Samsung USA and was able to go through an entire support case on twitter. I had problem with the samsung wireless multimedia speakers with hub, and my problem was not a known problem, and with my help reporting the right information to the agent on twitter, they were able to patch the problem on the next firmware release. I was quite amazed on how their twitter support was knowledgeable.

They have already responded to my twitter request but I think they might direct me to Samsung Canada. The problem is their support is far from being as active as the american one, so any american care to join my chat with them?

To put you up to speed, just listen to you music while in safemode for at least a few days, like that we'll be able to know if it's a core OS bug or a 3rd party interference with sound

Hey guys, just wanted to update on what i have going on with my edge volume...I also sent a message to samsung on polish pat's convo...I was told to ship it in for further evaluation and repair. I removed sim card and had phone deactivated from carrier, after this i tested my phone and the issue has not happened since, previously i could not go 3 songs without it turning my volume down, now ive gone hours without it happening. This leads me to believe it must be the fact that it is deactivated or a bad sim card. Tomorrow i will re insert the sim card and see what happens if nothing occurs i will go have it re activated and see if thats what is causing the issue for me. I'll keep you guys updated.
This issue is so random...some guy said he disabled S-Voice and Car Mode and it worked. I don't even have car mode and have disabled S-Voice since day 1. I have not seen the problem in a few days. Been using Google music a lot and streaming my library instead of having it on the phone. Previously most of my issues were with the stock music player but since I restored my phone i didn't sync my music back and have been using only streaming. I did encounter the issue at first with Spotify but have not been listening to music a lot lately so it just might be that.
If you guys have discovered other situations that bring the issue back, please post here and on the Twitter convo with Samsung

Put the SIM card back in 30 min ago and volume has decreased once. Thats not as much as was happening but it tells me something must be up with my SIM card....I will continue observing and let you all know what happens. If it continues decreasing volume i plan on visiting my carrier later today to inquire about a new SIM card. That should be interesting.

Yes, Samsung are surprisingly awesome at helping client on Twitter. I would have never thought. This is the third time i reach out to them for help and the've been very helpful all the times. Sure, it can take a lot more time to solve the issue as one reply can take a few hours, but it beats speaking with the Indian folks that follow a basic troubleshooting guide on a computer screen and offer the most illogical solutions
Continued issues
Wow, I've been so busy recently that I didn't even have time to jump on here and see the number of responses that have occurred. Suffice to say, it looks like I must have some sort of variation of this issue.
I guess the only thing worth pointing out is that I also had this issue once on my Galaxy S4. A couple of friends suggested that perhaps it was my headphones causing the issue, so I switched over to a different, newer pair. I thought all was going well until yesterday when, 22 days after switching to these headphones on my S6 Edge, the volume decreased to 'safe' level and the high volume warning popped up when I went to turn it up again.
From what I've seen here, though, it affects everyone differently. Some it's constant, some it's very random; some it's for headsets, others it's for Bluetooth, etc. This has to be some sort of software bug and I think I might've just been unlucky to get it on both phones. When I spoke to Samsung they said to factory reset it in case of Malware, but I don't really buy that I could get identical Malware on both phones (and on the S6 Edge within a two-week window of purchase) and the way it manifests itself is through occasionally reducing my phone's volume only when headphones are connected. That seems a little, uh, too specific and pointless for malware to me, haha. I'm not the most tech-savvy, though, so any additional thoughts are welcome - even thoughts related to the possibility of Malware. I just really don't want to have to start my phone from scratch again.
I guess that, for now, all I can do is hope it doesn't get worse (some of you are having a far worse time than I am, which sucks) and that Samsung does roll out some sort of fix. I'm keeping an eye on the Twitter conversation polish_pat started. Have any of you managed to resolve the issues you've been having with the volume resetting/reducing?

I had the same issue, after much searching on google I found its a common problem and there's an app called toggle headset that will resolve this. Last time I checked it wasn't in the Marketplace, a quick search on google should lead you to it.
If you have any trouble finding it, let me know and I'll dig out the link for it when I get home.
One word of warning, its unsigned, but it works like a charm for me with no untoward side effects.

Woah... it sure worked to use that widget... then it IS a software problem.
Let's see if I can deduce something from what I have been reading and my own experience so far:
1. The first couple of days I had the HTC Hero the device automatically switched from internal speaker to headphones when I put those in.
2. After a while the device no longer recognised when using headphones.
3. Then I started to listen in the headphones while pulling the plug in and out of the socket. I DID hear clicks which told me that there wasn't anything loose to the contacts.
4. Then I read that others had the very same problem and someone suggested that a hardware reset maybe would fix it. I wasn't prepared to go that path just yet though. Then something happened that more or less forced me to do that hardcore reset anyway. That didn't fix it.
5. Enter "Toggle Headphones". It works.
From this my first thought was that it might have been a hardware fault and a return was necessary. Then I began to read about others having the same problem. A hardware fault affecting lots of users in the first week the phone had been out in the wild? I am not saying it could not happen but it is very unlikely though. But then again a hardware reset should have fixed it right? It didn't. The date and time the phones gets from the network would have been reset too, but since the phone immediatly gets the right time and date as soon as it is powered on from a hardware reset makes it dificult to test (I know we can turn off that feature).
As it is now I think something is wrong with the time and date thingy. And it is a software problem.
Scratch the time and date stuff. I just tried to manually change the time and date back to the day I first got this device and it didn't work either.
I've had my Titan for maybe 3-4 months and I am SO sick of my WiFi getting disconnected constantly. Will sell it and get a Galaxy Note instead. Any of you with the same issue?

Try settings your router to 150 802.11n, instead of 300, the phone specs says 802.11b/g/n(150).
Maybe having the router on 300 the device cant detect it reliably..

Nope. Mine works fine. Couldn't be happier. If it's only with one particular wi-fi connection, I'd check what channel the router is using. I've had problems before due to my neighbour using the same channel as me.

This is my experience exactly - totally happy with my awesome phone with one exception: outgoing voice quality. It's horrid. I made the mistake of recommending the Titan to my Dad, and now I can hear how bad I've been sounding to others. When I call him, it's just "What?" "What?" "What?" "What?"
I have had the exact same problems with my Titan, finally had enough when Phone signal started playing up as well. Sent it back to HTC, on the first return they replaced the motherboard and a sensor but when I got it back the problems were worse and I couldn't actually connect to the mobile network. So sent it back, according to them they have replaced additional PCBs and some other sensors. Since getting it back this time it works perfectly, no problems switching automatically between mobile network and wifi for data, voice quality is 100x better and the phone is a joy to use.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure my phone signal have started being crazy but I've noticed that sometimes it's down to zero bars (with the icon over so no calls can come in/out). Maybe it's because of a death-grip of some sort.
Mine worked perfectly during the first 4 months. Then suddenly it wouldn't anymore connect to wifi routers. That is, low signal, does not reconnect, no signal at more than a few meters away from router, etc.
I eventually sent it for repair with clear explanations, but all these ah did was to re-install the software... I got desperate until a few minutes ago when I tried to open and clean the contacts of the back cover. It didn't help, but I tried instinctly to test the wifi signal after applying pressure with my thumbs against the phone's screen, so as to improve the contact with the back cover. Result = instant improvement from 2 bars (2 meters away from router) to 5 bars!
Next step, I opened the back, and with the help of a knife, I bent slightly the metal parts that are used for antenna contacts with the phone. I put the back over and miracle, the signal is now perfect with 5 bars, and without having to press the phone!
Well, I don't know until when the trick will work, and if you attempt to do it, be very careful not to spoil these metal parts. I'm happy for the time being

Mostly likely "Prerna" lifted the contacts upward so as to make contact with the back cover, but since their small/thin they can easily be broken = useless or eventually become loose.

Have you and your Dad gotten any help on the voice quality issue? Have you told AT&T about it?
I'm on my 3rd Titan from AT&T all having the same voice quality problem. I just received my 4th one in the mail today and I'm sure it'll have the same issue!
Personally, I'm getting a little tired of re-installing all the apps and begging Microsoft to delete the old titan from list of 3 devices allowed to play zune content!

i had to return my titan because the muffled sound problem was unbearable. Leave yourself a voicemail to test it. I think it may be an app that causes the problem. Test after a hard reset again.

Not sure that it is an app causing the problem because like I said yesterday, my latest replacement device showed up yesterday (my 3rd) and right out of the box, I called AT&T and they could not hear me. I was practically screaming and all three phone calls, no one could hear me.
Then taking my sim card out and putting it back in an unlocked HTC HD2 to continue working for the day, I later called AT&T back for yet another replacement and they said that they must do diagnostic on it with my sim card in it. So I did that and used my wife's phone to speak to AT&T and they proceeded to call me on my Titan and I answered and they could hear me fine. They asked me to call someone from my contacts list and I did and they too could hear me fine. So either I'm an idiot or everyone that I talk to are liars (including my wife that says she can't hear me).
The phone isn't consistent with the problem. It's like an interference of some sort. I've used it today without problems! Not sure what it is, but I know once I re-install my 200+ apps, call MS and beg for it to be one of my allowed 3 devices and set it all back up, then it'll start acting up again only to start the whole damn cycle over again!
Tooly26, how did you "unbrand" your phone? Is this procedure for Eur phones or US AT&T as well?
Any help is appreciated because I'm really regretting buying this phone.

Hi, same experience here. I have this problem since I got it out of the box without loading any app into it. I am also using a Titan from ATT. Have you tried to put a tape on the top mic? It helps and improves voice quality. But I have to say even with this fix, the voice quality is still not as good as my old iphone 3gs.
Seems like there's alot of issues with the Titan, not just the WiFi. I'm still leaning towards the Note tho, I do love WP7 but I also have to say I'm a bit tired of the low resolution, it kinda sets me off. Need something fresh really =)
Yes, I am in the same situation too. I am going to give up the HTC Titan and go back to a Android device.
They have repaired my HTC Titan two times, with new mainboard and back cover, but still the outgoing sound quality is so bad in some calls and the WiFi is buggy.
I think the WiFi issue must be some kind of software bug.
And I hate the fact that even 1/30 on the volume is so loud when playing games or watching movies.
And the low res and low dpi screen is more annoying then I thought it would be.
WP7.5 wasnt really what I expected and the HTC Titan was really not the flag ship phone to make it justice.
Hey guys,
I just got a Galaxy S3 however there a lot of annoying issues. First of all I haven't rooted anything and at the moment everything is stock.
The main really annoying thing is the Wi-Fi on my S III seems messed up. On all my apps which require the internet it lags really slow. For example if I load Instagram or Facebook it'll take ages to load the pictures. The same goes for random web pages. It takes around 1-2 minutes to load a page.
This does not always happen, I would say about 3/4 of the time. This issue is also guaranteed to happen in the games Hanging with Friends and Words with Friends. I doubt this issue is the app's fault as so many other apps have problems with Internet access.
I also use an iPhone 4S as a back up phone and it has no problems at all. I've also had no IP adress conflicts so that should not be a problem. This is extremely irritating as it makes using the phone a total pain.
Another thing is that I have created a folder on my home screen and whenever I open it, an annoying tone goes "Folder Open". I looked in Accessibility and couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Please help.
Also, I noticed that on my Galaxy S III when I listen to my music I hear a slight static buzz every now and then. I don't think this is an issue when the file and headphones as I've had them on my iPhone for a long time and had no issues. Do you guys have any solutions? Needless to say it is quite annoying listening to your favourite tunes and hearing this annoying buzz when you least expect it.
I also discovered something very interesting using Android. I have 250 MB of data to use and before on the iPhone it was extremely hard to cap that. However on this phone I'm already 50% through that. I used the iPhone just as much as the Galaxy so why is this happening? Does Android have another system of using data, like loading full size images?
Cheers, Jason

Haven't got this phone yet, i'm getting mine today.
But from what you've said, it sounds like it could be a few things including your phone.
First tho, check the stuff you can fix yourself.
Firstly, try not to compare any android phone to an iphone, they're not the same and have different qualities and weaknesses, the iphone in comparison to this beast is a pipsqueak.
About your connectivity, completely remove your APN and put them back in manually.
Perform a battery pull at least once a day.
Is your sim card a new one or old? You could possibly query that too.
250MB is nothing by the way, not sure how you managed it but even on an iphone that's not a lot, i can easily use 500MB just by allowing my phone to sync normal stuff, i'd personally recommend a gig as a minimum, unless you don't mind actively managing your internet habits and you frequently switch off data altogether.
As for your wifi, pull all cables on your router and start afresh, once everything is back together, connect using your phone and perform a speed test using the speedtest.net app, see what your getting, some apps don't use the speed that's available and that's a limitation of the app and not the phone or connection.
Also regarding your apps, either remove them or remove the data associated with them and start over.
As for the headphones, they're sh** so try some others.
Not sure about the voice over, maybe check settings and see what you can find.
If all this doesn't help then try a factory reset and see if your still having a problem.
Like i said i don't have this phone yet so i don't have too much hands on experience but give this little lot a whirl and see how it goes, if nothing helps then maybe return it if your unsatisfied.
Personally I'll be rooting my SGS3 on day one, right after i've tested to see if everything works of course.

Hey thanks for taking the time to reply,
This is going to sound stupid but what is an APN? I googled it and it came up with 'Access Point Name'. Is that what you mean?
My SIM card is a Micro-Sim and was in my old iPhone 4S before so it is not brand new.
I understand 250 MB is nothing but I'm being totally honest on my old phone it was really hard to blow it. I asked another guy and he said that Facebook for Android loads the images full size so I'm not 100% sure. It's just a bit of a shock since on iOS it used such little data.
Also, I'm not using the standard headphones. I'm using Audio Technica Solid Bass so I'm sure it's not a problem with that. But please try and help me with this issue. I need music for studying, transport, school etc.
I really want to keep the SIII. The big screen is really nice and the customisation of the home screen is great along with the widgets. Just these issues troubling me.
**EDIT: Also another issue. Sometimes when I go to the Play Store it'll attempt to load and display the page with "Connection timed out." **

YES its your network .

I would check with network for problems .
Factory reset and return phone to seller .

did you solve this issue ?
I'm having the exact same issue, I have two S3 devices .
both are bought from a different countries .. .
Both suffer from an extremely poor and slow internet . ..
it's "IMPOSSIBLE" for me to opan Google Play with no wifi . ..
it will time out if I try that with 3G network .. on both devices ..
tried soft reset + hard reset + rom flash ..
nothing worked .. .
"iPhone is soooooooooo much better than androind ..
this is my (3rd) time now ..
with S1, my phone suffered from instant disconnection from the internet
S2, people always get "this phone is out of service" when calling me
and now the lovely S3, which takes 2-3 minutes just to load google's default page ...
how wonderful !
Hello there.
I'm having problems with my Android device and I'm very frustrated with it so far...
My device is a Motorola Moto G. I've updated it to the latest Android version available (4.4.2), however, I'm experiencing some serious problems; the most important atm is the alarm.
I am using the volume button to snooze the alarm, because imho it's more convenient. However, yesterday the volume button just didn't work for some reason. I had to unlock the screen for it to work, then it started working again with the screen locked. Today the same thing happened, I had to unlock the screen to snooze the alarm using the volume button, then I could snooze it again without unlocking, however, it just 'stopped' by itself, I don't know if the volume button somehow turned the alarm off. I didn't even touch the screen, so it's a bug or something. I've always been using a cell/smartphone to wake up and never had any problem.
Also, this device freezes a lot and I've never experienced that before in any cell/smartphone. It also seems the device must be turned on for the alarm to work; it's not that important for me, but still a 'downgrade' from my previous device. Another thing that really annoys me is that you can't even change the volume without playing the sounds... if you want to set a very loud volume in the middle of the night there's no way other than waking everybody up. Additionally, I would like to be able to somehow record a call, but none of the apps works with this device.
I don't think the alarm problem is a hardware fail or defective device, it seems to me the software is somehow bugged. There's no Cyanogenmod for this device yet (mine is dual chip) and even if it were available, It seems some apps doesn't work with it (like Sygic).
I don't know how I should proceed and I apologize in advance if my question is too 'basic' for a developers forum, but I didn't want to post on the other popular 'user' forums because I've seem many threads where the moderators were just talking nonsense proving that they don't even know how to turn on an Android device, including the extreme case of a newbie asking about some permissions who was somewhat 'burned at the stake' by the moderators and veteran members while he was right all the time, so if the moderators and veterans don't have a clue on what's an Android device I'm surely not reliant to post there. On the other hand all the (/most) posts here on XDA Devs always get correct and helpful replies.
I don't know if I should try downgrading the OS to 4.3 or if there's something else I could try. I don't know if it's possible that the latest update was somehow 'badly flashed'. It doesn't seem very likely to me.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

try downgrading to 4.3 ,apparently the 4.4 update has many issues.
for changing the volume download a proper sound management app.

Thank you for your reply,
However, after Googling and contacting motorola, it seems there's no way of downgrading (without rooting the device) .
The alarm problem is getting worse, today for some reason when the alarm was ringing, instead of the alarm screen, the default lock screen appeared, the volume buttons didn't work also, so there was no way to snooze the alarm, I had to turn it off in the configs and get out the bed like 1 hour earlier than usual.
Isn't it possible that the problem is some kind of flashing fail when I've updated the OS? I highly doubt everyone is having this problem... Isn't there a way of reinstalling the OS?
Also, the hardware isn't very good. It seems of good quality in appearance but after only a couple of months the battery isn't lasting as it used to. motorola support is simply horrendous in my country, there's no support at all. I don't even know why there's a warranty if in practice that means absolutely nothing.
I'm thinking about buying an alarm clock, preferably a german-made one that I can trust... It's outrageous though. I never thought I would need an alarm clock again.
Worst purchase ever. I'm thinking about getting back my cheapo Samsung Galaxy Pocket Plus that I gave away. It wasn't as comfortable as this motorola but it surely did work and the apps were much better, I thought they were all standard Android apps but it ended up they are from Samsung, in 99% of the cases you can long hold the stuff to pop a menu of actions, for example, hold a contact for a menu on editing/deleting/etc. hold a number on a message for a menu on adding-contact/adding-number-to-contact/etc. It was very intuitive and straightforward. The apps in this motorola are exactly the opposite, holding the finger on stuff never do anything and most times not even tapping stuff does anything. It's a pain to use its cumbersome and confusing interface. Only for adding a simple contact I take more than 10 times the time I've used to take to add a contact on my cheapo Samsung phone.
I thought the phone would be good specially in terms of software because motorola is "a Google company" but I was completely wrong. It seems Google is going to sell motorola, perhaps not even they were believing the products were good after all. In any case, I'm never buying motorola again.
Also, there are lots of topics on the poor quality/limitations of stock Android apps and the unanimous solution is to install better apps from Google Play, in the end it's quite a mess because most/some stock apps can't be disabled and their services will continue to run, along with some others from 3rd party that should in fact substitute them. If the stock apps are so poor, there should be a way to completely disable them all imho, or even better, perhaps they could just ship high-quality opensource apps instead of the terrible stock ones.
So far I'm very frustrated. If I could get my money back I would surely get a Blackberry or Samsung device. I don't really care about games and it seems that's what made android so popular, the cornucopia of awful (seriously, 99% of the games on Google Play are of extremely bad quality) games full of sneaky ads and that needs every permission possible to run. That permission thing is another one that doesn't really works. It should work but most apps ask for a lot of permissions that doesn't make any sense and the users don't seem to care much.
Sorry for the rant, thanks for your help.
Hello there.
I'm just posting here to let you know that I've unlocked the bootloader, downgraded to 4.3 and now the thing works perfectly. Plus I've discovered the battery problem AND a poor signal AND cal recording not working were because of the faulty update also! I must inform also that it seems the problem only occurs in dual chip versions and I've already downgraded the system for a friend of mine who was having the same problems, so, if you have the dual chip version, please don't upgrade it to kitkat! You'll get a nonworking OS and will be forced to ditch your warranty to use your phone in a sane way again. It seems the support for the dual chip version was dropped already because the single chip one (which was usable after the update) have received other updates after 4.4 to fix minor bugs, but the dual chip which is totally broken and unusable didn't receive any.
Having to circumvent the normal conditions and lose your warranty to have an usable device proves that motorola (and google by consequence) have the responsibility of a kid.
The downgrade didn't fix the problem with browsing files from the computer though, for that specific problem I'm going to open another thread as it seems android related.
In general the Android community is not very good, it's full of what I suppose are kids, wanting to help but only disrupting any chance to solve the issue. The IRC channel is specially unhelpful. Unless your question is "where do I plug the other end of the cable" or "how do I turn on my device" chances are you won't get any actual help and by the answers you can see the people there don't have a clue on anything. Probably it's full of <10yo kids. At least in mental terms . The XDA however, seems to be an exception, actually standing out from the lots of unhelpful forums and chats out there. In this topic I didn't receive many replies, but it's better this than receiving a lot of moronic replies like I would have received in IRC or other forums.
Thank you.
EDIT: Read the other comments in this thread to see what I've tried and what hasn't worked. Thank you!
I love my Galaxy S5 so far, but currently it's sucking at being an actual phone. On the other end of the phone line, the people I've talked to have complained of the audio sort of cutting in and out like someone is interrupting me. This happens when I'm in quiet rooms alone, so I'm confused. At first I though it was the case on my phone (Supcase), but after replicating the problem for myself, that doesn't seem to be the case. So at this point I'm not really sure if my phone is possessed or if it's a hardware problem. For reference, I'm running XtreSoLite rom and I have a few Viper4Android audio things running. I'm not sure if that could be the problem. Anyway, if someone could help me solve this issue, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

It's certainly not normal. Not with stock firmware or custom ROMs like Phoenix. I have no idea if your custom ROM is a factor, bit it seems unlikely.
Possibly your problems are reflective of being in a location with a weak and tenuous signal strength. Generally speaking dropouts and feedback are data latency issues seen more with Voip and VoLTE calls. You don't have nearly enough information to do more than guess yet.. but I would make your audio app (Viper) to be the prime suspect.
See if you can exempt voice calls from Viper or temporarily uninstall it. Also find out if any background apps are using high CPU and in particular if any audio apps are set to high priority. Find out if you arwe using VoLTE. CPU (power saving) apps?
If you can't narrow it down, make a backup and then revert to 100% stock to rule out hardware issues. Then install apps one at a time, watching for the issue to return. You could also open a carrier support ticket to see if your account is misconfigured, using a low grade codec, etc.

Thank you for all of this! I'm having an unfortunate week because I'm actually away from home and have very limited internet access, so factory resetting my phone isn't currently an option. However, I did turn VoLTE off and I'll be wiping my cache because I read somewhere that might work. I'll also be watching my apps, but I'm not sure that's the problem. I generally have the same apps on all of the phones I use and this is the only phone people have said I sound bad on. And I don't think Viper is the culprit either because I've disabled it and nothing has changed. So hopefully turning off VoLTE works or simply wiping the cache does the trick. If not, I'll definitely do everything that you recommended because I want to avoid RMAing this device at all costs.
It seems that a factory reset solved the problem. I still have no idea what the problem was, though, but I'm happy it seems to be gone.
So the problem has returned. I factory reset once again and it hasn't done the trick. Everyone is describing it as an echo and telling me they can hear themselves echoing when they speak, although it sounds fine on my end. I don't know what else to do. I have:
Factory reset
Taken the sim out and put it back in
Changed APNs
I don't know what else I can do. Really hoping I don't have to RMA this device. Does anyone know how Samsung is with RMAs?
Bump
Still having this problem. I hope there's someone out there who knows how to fix it.
you ain't alone mine was fine for a while then after the new update it came back i call t-mobile.they put in a open repair tickets as others around my town also complain.my signal is always -114 to -119.they have heard it it when i call them.i get the echo or it brakes up or call turns into noise and then calls drop and they have to call me back on house phone they claim it is a tower/signal issue.??

i had this on my first two handsets it happened in the first 14 days so i had no trouble going into tmo store and exchanging it twice. people could not hear me and the echo was really bad. third s5 call quality super clear now.
been you had exchange the phone and new one working fine what software is it on NF6 or the new NG3 that would tell us a lot???before i downgrade back to the nf6

I had this same issue as well. I could hear people jsut fine, but when they tried to talk to me, be it over tmo network or through wifi calling, they heard bad echoes and noise. I even did as you did; factory reset and it sorta worked. When it happened again, I cleared caches (the official fix from tmo 611) and that worked for a couple hours. Eventually, they told me to take it back to the store and get a replacement.
I believe it's a hardware issue related to the mic; here's why:
When I'm in my car and on bluetooth people on other end hear me just fine and crystal clear. When I used a bluetooth headset, same thing. As soon as I disconnect from BT and go to just the normal mic, echo pops in.
One thing you can do is call 611 and use the voice prompts. It was so bad on my end that the voice prompts picked up itself (well the echoes from the voice prompts). If you do and the voice prompt system routs you even when you don't say anything (it routes your call because of the echoes) then you definitely have a bad handset.
I was rooted, custom recovery, knox tripped and mailed my phone in. Nothing happened. But they did charge me $20 for a return/replacement fee. The new phone I got works no problem.
