Hi. Please forgive me if the answer's out there and I've missed it. I've been looking but don't see an answer to my problem.
My unrooted Kindle HDX 8.9 was on whatever the newest software was as of two weeks ago. One day it was fine, the next it wouldn't start up. I can get it to boot into recovery occasionally. I tried factory resetting it from recovery. It said "erasing" then rebooted and said it was updating, then nothing. The screen turned off and nothing else happened.
Sometimes it will power on and the first two kindle screens will appear then it goes black and nothing else happens. I can still get it into recovery sometimes. Mostly it just says "kindle" for a few seconds then goes black.
Is there a way for me to reinstall/flash stock kindle software?

As you probably gathered there is no easy answer to your problem. It has characteristics of a power problem (bad battery) where the device will only run for a few min/sec before shutting down. It could also be overheating. I would engage Amazon if the device is still under warranty.

Interesting, thanks for your input. I was actually wondering about the battery but wasn't convinced that was the problem.
It was at 60% battery the night before the issue, and then next morning I plugged it in. I took a shower, got out, the battery icon said 100%, and then it just stopped working. It wouldn't connect to wifi, so I shut it down to restart it. When I restarted it, nothing happened. I tried to restart it several times. It would occasionally boot to the first "kindle" screen then go black. After that, it ran down, I assume because of rebooting/hanging on one screen and then no battery icon would appear when it was plugged in. After a few days, I plugged it in and a big red battery did appear on the screen.
This stupid device was ONE WEEK out of warranty and Amazon would do nothing but offer me $20 off a new $400 Kindle. Fool me once, Amazon... Luckily, I bought the kindle with my Mastercard and they have an extended warranty policy. They sent me a check for the cost of replacing the Kindle and I bought an Ipad. Eff Amazon. I'll never buy anything from those jerks again.
I still have the Kindle but am no longer invested in trying to fix it. Maybe someone will give me a few bucks for it on ebay. It's in perfect condition other than the not working thing. Never been dropped, rarely left my house, no kids, no smoke or pets, etc. I'm pretty pissed at Amazon. There are 20 or so HDX reviews in the last month that say almost the same thing.

Agree with the shoddy treatment from Amazon. Although technically out of warranty (by a week!) one would hope for more than 5% off retail. Enjoy your ipad.

Good evening.
Well, i know there are like hundred other threads about dead HD2's, but this is strange:
I bought this used HD2 yesterday, 1 year old, never used with stock ROM. I have been using it all day today, after it was recharged all night. But the well known freezing issue started about late afternoon, and i took the battery out and replaced it, and it worked fine again. It did until i went to bed, where i just checked my facebook, and wanted to close down and sleep. Then it froze again, and now it won't start at all. I also charged the phone for about 40 minutes this evening. When i try to turn on the phone, it either vibrates shortly, or light up the hardware buttons, but no screen. I took the battery out and in again, nothing. Tried to charge it, no red lamp, nothing. No bending pins under the battery, i can't hard reset. When i tried to hard reset it, i could hear the sound, like when i turn the volume up and down, so it must be turned on, just not the screen. Tried to put small paper-bits under the battery, nothing. Now i will try to charge it all night, but it won't work, i think.
Also, i tried to lick the battery, and yes, it works.
Is the phone dead? Should i call the service-provider and get it repaired?
Thanks in advance and merry christmas!
so it seems (if i am right) the problem is possibly your screen. correct? (or more, right?)
can you boot into bootloader? doesn't seem like you can....
one option to see if your phone is working and your screen is bust is:
http://www.mymobiler.com/
never used it myself, but you can see your phone on your computer. if all looks normal there, well then your screen is bust. if not, and you can't get into bootloader, then it seems the phone is all bust.
Well... Now it works again after having the battery out all night, inserting it, waiting just 15 minutes and then turning it on! Is there a way to avoid this? Some fix or something?
I suspect that the reason it was onsale
I thhink we have the same problem here,.... is your device getting a little warm on the back....

Yea so I finally got my transformer prime on the 23rd after waiting about a month for it.
As soon as I opened it i plugged the charger in preparing myself for my first ICS/Android tablet experience, and shortly after my eyes began to tear.
The screen wouldn't turn on so I immediately logged onto xda to find a solution to no avail. I've been proceeded to call asus and find out what was going on with my brand new transformer. They proceeded to tell me to do everything that I had already done before I called them and it came down to me having to ship it back for repair. They even tried to make me pay for shipping until I told them "don't worry about it, I'm just gonna go and buy an ipad" haha
So now I should have my baby back in a week or so.
I saw other people had screen issues when they first got it and it was solved by charging it, but has anyone else had to send theirs back for repair?

You should of charged it up at first for at least 8hrs. Before sending it in....plenty others had same issue n solved it like that. Primes come with battery basically dead. Mines didn't. It was low. But most others I've seen had a dead battery basically.
Have you tried to hold the power button down until it vibrates? I noticed that my phone will come on immediately if I press the power button, but with the tablet, I have to hold for a few seconds until the device powers on.
Just something I noticed from my first experience.
Try holding the power button or combonation of the power button+Volume button while pluged in.
also try a paper clip in the tiny hole near the SD-Card
Please give us details on what you have tried. Sending to the Repair center will take you up to 2-3 weeks process time and return.
So you might think of just returning it to the company you got it from for another Prime or your money back.
Hope this helps.

I have had 4 Primes now, 3 were dead when i got em.... Charged for 8 hours as mentioned in the user guide and all 3 powered on without issue. One had just enough charge on it to start up when i went to first charge.
It threw me for a loop first couple of times but holding the power will do the trick.

I ordered mine from Office Depot and it came dead as a door knob. I plugged it in and it would not turn on at all.. I was definietly worried i had a defective one but i let it charge for 10 minutes and pow! it came on.
The battery died completely the other day and i had to give it a few minutes or so on the charger before it booted up
I had same issue but after lettering it charge for a good 3 hours and it turned on, I even called Asus before it turned on

Hey guys.
I have a problem with my HTC EVO 3D. I've been using it for a year and everything was fine until yesterday. I was playing Real Racing 3 when my phone suddenly restarted and then turned off before I could enter my PIN code and didn't boot up. I thought that it might have overheated or it was some crash or something, I put the phone to charging and it easily turned on (I must mention, that there were about 70% battery left). I charged my phone and didin't use it whole afternoon. In the evening, I was trying to unlock my phone (with about 70% of battery) when suddenly the same happened again - the phone restarted and before entering PIN code turned off at all. After that I wasn't able to boot my phone.
I tried charging it with original HTC AC charger and also using my laptop and even a car charger, but nothing changes.
When the phone is not plugged in to charging, it doesn't show any signs of being alive. I tried pressing volume down/up/camera buttons + power on button, taking off the battery for about an hour, charging the phone for ~6 hours. Nothing works.
However, I realised that when I connect the phone to my laptop, there is a 'new device is connected' sound, but I am not able to access my memory card or do something else. Also, when the phone is charging, the red charging light is on, which after a few hours turns to green and after some more time disappears at all. When trying to turn on the device while it is charging the red light disappears as soon as the power button is released ant comes back after about 20 seconds.
Sorry for such long story and for my bad English. I am very disappointed. I still have a warranty, but I dont want to take the phone there, because the fixing lasts at least 2-3 weeks and also since I'm unable to boot my phone, there are a lot of my personal information in it, such as passwords, messages, bookmarks and so on, left.
So, is there anything I could do or should I take my phone to service?
P.S. The phone is not rooted and never was. Everything is original and up to date.

Thanks. I took it to service. I hope they'll repair it.
I finally got my HTC back a few days ago. They changed the motherboard and I had to buy a new battery since the old one was dead and warranty for it was only a year.
But I've faced several unexpected crashes during these few days. I think 3 or maybe 4 times when I took the phone after not using it for couple of hours and tried to unlock it, the phone didn't unlock and instead turned on. I really don't like this, because if my phone turns off whenever it wants, I may be unreachable
Does anyone knows what that means and what should I do if this keeps happening?

Yes, the soft has always been and is stock.
Then it must be a hardware issue. If your warranty has not expired, take it to the warranty service.

Well as I said I dont want to take it there because it takes about three weeks or more till I get back my phone.. It would be the third time in two months and it really annoys me.
Couldn't this be software issue? I mean I've been reading some similiar threads and I found out that some app might be killing the phone. So I did hard reset yesterday and after that installed only well known essential apps (Google services and some others) and after that the phone didin't crash for almost two days. Unfortunately, it did turned off a few minutes ago. I've installed only 8 Ball Pool and Smart Keyboard Pro recently, so I will try unninstalling them both and let's hope the phone won't crash again. Is there any ideas what else may I do in case it doesn't work?

Id recommend doing a factory reset on the phone and not installing any app for at least a week to confirm its not a hardware issue, but I strongly believe it is. If it fails youll have to take it to a sprint store and hope the clerk is in a good mood and give you a new phone the same day.
try a new battery
The battery is new, I had to buy it only a week ago, because the service stated that the old one was dead.
Hey there. Out of nowhere today my phone rebooted on it's own and is now stuck on the "LG Life's Good" splash screen. I have the AT&T version (H900) and bone stock everything (I have not messed with bootloaders or rooting or anything). I tried removing the battery and this also does nothing. Anyone else have this issue and know what to do to fix it?
Thanks
Update: After letting the phone sit for about 20 minutes it magically booted and is now working fine... not sure what happened.
Have you tried doing a factory reset of you phone?
1) Turn off the phone.
2) Then hold down the Volume Down and Power button together for a couple of seconds.
3) As soon as the LG logo is displayed, let go of the Power key, keep pressing the Volume Down and then press once more the Power button.
Afterwards you should see a factory reset menu on your screen.
4) Confirm process by choosing appropriate options using Volume rockers to navigate and Power button to confirm.
5) Now your phone should restart.
6) Success! The hard reset has just been completed.
I am having this same problem.
Was using Pandora and GPS. It cut off and has not come back on. I attempted to open in safe mode recovery mode l and tried to-do a factory reset.
When I did the reset It went through the erasing process but when it rebooted it stayed on the LG screen. I've tried all the "common" trouble shooting suggestions... Its been two hours now.
Any new experiences with this issue?
Im also having the same issue with my V10 - Verizon model. Watching a YouTube video and it reset and got stuck on the LG logo splash screen. Followed instructions to do a factory reset and after about 45 min of being stuck on the factory reset screen after I confirmed it reset and booted up. All data and setting were still saved, and after about 3-5 minutes it reset again and went right back to being stuck on the LG splash screen.
Any other advice? or is it just dead?
I am having the same issue with my stock AT&T V10. It randomly turned off, then I couldn't even get it to turn on. No charge screen. No Life's Good. I took out the battery and it would get to the blinking red question mark, but there is no way that I can see that I can use the phone without the battery. Sometimes the phone will boot to the LG screen, but mostly it will not. Even if it does, it will shut down after 3 mins or so.
Once I tried to hard reset it, and the phone just vibrated until i took the battery out. So I dont know whats going on. The phone has been running warm when playing Pokemon Go so maybe that's the culprit? Not like I was playing it all the time though.
Luckily I moved *most* of the new baby pictures over to the microSD. Ugh, I hope I can get the rest!

@jjall Very odd. Glad I am not the only one, though! I chatted with an AT&T service tech last night and he basically said he has no idea what is going on, but what he read about something similar indicated that the phone and all the files are most likely corrupted. Luckily I moved most of the photos over to the extra microsd, I am going to an AT&T service center to see if they can work any magic and retrieve any other files. Last night the tech started a warranty replacement and the new(ish) phone is on its way.
I did get it to boot to the white safe mode screen but was not ready to say erase all, just in case it erases the photos. I chose to restart the phone and nothing, just black. Every once in a while the phone will just vibrate for 30 seconds before shutting down while the screen is black. Other times I get the soft vibrate as though it is turning on, but nothing happens. Some times I get the LG screen, but then that just turns off. No rhyme or reason except that I at least get some response after the phone and battery have been apart for a while.
I'll update when I get back.

Yeah. I get the same thing. I'm taking it to att today to see if anything can be done. My only problem is that I dropped the phone a few months ago, the only time i've dropped it, and lens came off without me noticing. I'm pretty sure that voids the warranty. Either way, i'll see if i can pay for an upgrade or something. Good luck to you.

My guys said they could not do anything, but as I was playing with the phone, it magically came to life! I was in the process of moving all the photos to the microsd, then it froze, crashed, then wouldn't turn on. So it's possible! They mentioned taking it to a cell-phone tech place to see if they could do anything as they have better tools to help fix things. Dunno what that would do to the warranty. The tech guys did say they dont carry any spare parts or batteries for the V10 because it never has a problem. I told them that there is a rash going around and they might see it soon.
I did notice that the colder i kept the phone, the more of a chance that it would *at least* turn on, before crashing. So at least there is hope...somewhere. Hoping a new battery will help maybe, even though it seems to be a hardware issue.
How's your luck @jjall?

Actually, i just got home and I decided to try out to see if it worked. I got the 0% battery sign. Plugged it in and it actually seems to be charging! So i'm hopeful. I also noticed that my phone has been getting hot lately. And that my battery life was crap. But that's just LG. I talked to an ATT customer service rep. and they told me that I could have the camera lens replaced so that my phone would be covered for an exchange. Even if it turns on, i'm going to exchange it just as soon as save all my files. Hopefully they'll take it now that it's working....
EDIT
it decided to turn on while it was charging. Froze on booting screen. It was HOT. Like I almost dropped it.
Hmm, I was going to say "CONGRATS!" but sorry. Did the battery get hot or did the phone itself get hot? Feels like mine is getting hot at or near where the led flash is. Gonna let it stay in this LG welcome screen for a bit and find out. I'm wondering if a new battery would help, but I have to wait until the 19th though before my replacement shows up.
Also, were you playing Pokemon go before? Wondering if that is what started this all.
Hello!
So the same thing happened to me. I was not playing any games on my phone. I had JUST clocked out of work using an application on my phone and sent a text. It has turned off on its own and didn't want to even turn back on. I removed the battery and set it back in.. it turned on to the LG screen and stayed until it blacked out again shortly after.
Same issue with TMO LG V-10 here. Was using phone and it went black and shut down. Now in a loop with the LG boot screen. It tried a few times then just goes black.
Well I just got my replacement and the new battery didn't do anything to help the broken phone. Guess I am going to lose some important pictures. I have a few days to keep on trying before I have to send it back to AT&T. Interesting this is happening to a few people all around the same time.
@Buzzbee21 did you notice your phone running hot at all before the shut down? Mine was running hot a lot, so maybe the heat protection is the problem.
At time yes. Not so much when it did quit. However, I left it sit on a fan and chilled it, and one time when I was able to get to the wipe screen, before it quit again, it got very hot in the afformentioned area.
Less than a year old. Getting a warranty replacement, but still disappointed as I think having the replaceable battery and abiltiy to put a large Micro SD card in it, along with the finish, camera, and Audio make the V10 one of the nicest phones out there.

this may sound weird but the same thing happen to me.... put the phone in the freezer for a while then boot it up but be prepared to get your pics, music, etc off of it quick... mine works fine until it warms up to room temp, then back in the freezer it goes to do it again... did it like 4 times today and saved over 1600 pics, bunch of videos and music. (saved them to a mircoSD card)
Wow. This happened to me last night, and I thought it was the weirdest thing. I wasn't even using my phone. It was sitting on my dinner table, and I noticed the screen on with the LG logo. I went over and picked it up. It stayed on the logo a few minutes, so I took the battery out. Then I turned it on, nothing but LG screen. I kept messing with it with a combination of Power/volume down and finally got it to come on to my home screen. It worked for about five minutes before being wonky again. I took the batter out all night. I'm hoping that I can get it to come on again today (I've tried 10 times and not been able to) so that I can make sure the developer options is checked, then I can hook it to the computer and mess around with it.
Thanks for this thread. It seems most of us just started having this issue in August. I'm planning on getting the V20 next month, but I need this one to last until then. haha Please keep us updated if anyone figures anything out and I will do the same.

SO, not saying this will help anything but, after messing around with the phone for several hours I've learned this:
If you take the battery out, then plug it into your laptop, then turn it on: a battery icon will pop up with a ? on it.
From there, if you hold down the VOLUME down key, and insert the battery, it will take you into the quick boot menu automatically. Unfortunately I never set that up, and not it will not allow me to set it up. I assumed I could get to safe mode from there. This is the first time I've seen where I would have to "set up" the quick boot menu. This is my first LG phone though. I usually use HTC, or MOTO.
Now, the more interesting thing is, begin as I did last time.
Phone off, battery out, plug into computer, power on. Then hold the UP volume key as you insert the battery and it will take you to your "Tethering" option. So for most of you that have this problem, maybe you will be able to get the data to back it up. Unfortunately for me, it tells me I have to do a Firmware update first, and to not unplug the USB connection until it is complete. If your firmware is up to date, maybe it will allow you to do back up (I thought my firmware was up to date, but guess not).
I hope this helps someone, and I do hope that someone can build on what I've done so far so we can figure out how to at least get our data off the phone.

The phone got hot. It was getting hot starting from around the power buttons. And it sometimes got hot before i downloaded pokemon go. Not as often, but it happened from time to time. I think it might be because i'm no longer using the original power usb cable.... idk. Just waiting for a replacement.
Can you say the first 3 digits of the serial number of the device to boot loop problem?
I bought a 7" HDX on ebay a few weeks ago , got it running on the Fire Nexus ROM, and love it.
So, an 8.9" came up on ebay for cheap money, dead, and I took a gamble on it. It looks physically fine. I charged it and nothing happened. Tried resetting, etc. Nada. Took it apart and confirmed the battery HAS a good charge ( 4.3v) .
What else can I do? The seller said it had been working but quit. ("The battery stopped holding a charge.. We do not remember all the specifics.") No signs of violence - screen looks good. Should I be looking for another motherboard or could there be any other thing I can try?

- tether device to known good power brick/supply (not USB port)
- long press power button for increasingly long periods up to 5 min
- if no signs of life you'll likely need a replacement main -and- daughter board
- trouble with those is you don't know condition; could be dead as well
- not an easy job due to the use of copious glue during original assembly
I connected it to a working Kindle (5 amp) charger and held the button for 5 minutes. Nothing. The battery holds voltage so....
It was my impression that the 8.9 isn't so glued up as the 7. But I will need to find parts and probably don't want to put loads of money into this.

Correct on HDX 7 vs 8.9 disassembly; there is more wiggle room in the latter for gently prying components to release the glue. Downside is larger panel is easier to damage given no additional reinforcement. It's possible the power button has become disconnected although that should have been revealed when the device was tethered (assuming hot line) as it will initiate a boot sequence. Might be worth openning as a check for physical damage that is easily repaired.
Any good news with yours?
My Fire HDX 8.9 suddenly stopped working today while charging. I opened it up, both batteries have 4.33 volt just like yours. I tried all the power/volume button combinations, but none worked.
Good news? No, and it gets worse.
I bought another on eBay that "was working fine until the battery ballooned".
Sure enough, it came and the battery was toast. It was impossible to remove the battery, so I swapped the second motherboard into my first unit with a known good battery.
No joy.
Swapped daughter board. Nothing. Swapped power buttons. Nothing. Swapped displays. Nothing.
So....I guess I have had it...will the third motherboard be the charm?
