So this is one of the very first results that comes up when you search verizon galaxy note 2 on google.
I am considering getting the note 2 on verizon soon and I was wondering how the experience differs from the other carriers.. I heard the multi window supports fewer apps on verizon, and MANY other important features are said to be missing in the comments.
Does the development community have any solutions or ROMs that puts VZW on equal footing with the other carriers? The coverage and speed are obviously better on vzw, but just trying to be thorough and it's hard to tell without having the phone in hand.
Yes. With root and unlock it's on pretty much equal footing with everyone on software. Equal with Sprint on hardware as there's no wireless charging - unless you cut holes for the contacts in the plastic backing on top of the mobo.

Welp, that's Verizon for ya. And I like how the thread was locked down. Smh Verizon.
Anyways, if you are planning on rooting your Note, there's a mod to have any app added to the Multi Window feature.
Here's a solid solution: Flash CleanROM 3.5, which is based on the International Android 4.1.2 base, which has a ton of features added that weren't originally on any Android 4.1.1 base from any carrier. On top of that, you get the Multi Window feature mod.
This is why we have a development community - so evil carriers like this don't completely shut us down and treat us like peasants.
I'd say the developers here have been GREAT! I haven't dabbled in other note 2 forums or the like but I'm using Clean Rom VZW 1.0 and just love it.
I don't see anything that i would want missing.

Truth. Who knows how long it'll be before Verizon gets off their asses and sends out the 4.1.2 update to us.
Hell, I will bet money that things they took out of our phones that should have been stock, will be touted as being new features provided to us the peasants all thanks to Verizon Wireless. Ha... ha... ha..... Verizon you make me sad.

Wanna know why I haven't bothered with 4.1.2?
Because the differences between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 are stupidly minor.
4.1.1 to 4.1.2 deep down brings nothing to the table for us. It might for touchwiz, but the actual base Android OS sees little improvement overall. As for Touchwiz, we already have some of the updates in 4.1.1 on our variant.
http://www.androidcentral.com/inter...-get-android-412-update-new-touchwiz-features
From the article:
The biggest changes seem to be focused around the top of the screen. The notification shade is now customizable, so if you're not a fan of extraneous toggles and brightness dials, you can turn them off. If you keep your notification shade quick-controls, you'll notice new additions such as the ability to toggle the multi-window feature on and off. The notification bar itself has also changed slightly, going from grey back to black. And the lock screen's been changed up a little, with a new, optional ink effect in the on-screen "pool" when unlocking the device.
Web browser performance improvements are also noted, although we've always found Samsung's stock browser to be pretty fast. And finally, there's also a new Group Cast app for sharing music and photos with other Samsung device owners.

Back to 4.1.2:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...4-1-2-at-the-low-level-developer-commit-logs/
The only reason 4.1.2 was released is because it contained a mandatory software update for new Nexus 7 hardware revisions (dealing with power management hardware) and the new N7's releasing wouldn't run on 4.1.1. Otherwise, Google could have easily just waited until 4.2 with the changes.

I wouldn't say MANY. You have to look at other US Note 2 variants too. Tmobile and ATT didn't even ship with mulitwindow and are just now getting it. Welcome to the world of US carrier control.
Another placebo effect with 4.1.2.
As for the note 2 on verizon, once rooted/unlocked, its great.

Working with AOSP for a year, you get a really good feeling for just how much placebo is out there, when you get to see the nitty gritty in actual changes.
I miss my gnex. I don't miss its poor signal and battery life though.
4.1.1 to 4.1.2 is crazy minor and has no noticeable effect to most people.
4.2 to 4.2.1 is another one, and pointless if you are CDMA and already fixed the contacts bug yourself.
Yet, on both of those updates, people saw miraculous changes in performance and stability

I guess you didn't read about how the update to AT&T/US Cellular Note 2s which included 4.1.2 also happened to fix the missing auto-correction in the Samsung keyboard, and 240p/480p flash videos display corruption.
Both are huge to me, and probably many other people (the keyboard one especially.)
Just because the update includes a bump in Android firmware doesn't mean that's what I'm looking forward to. So yes, it does matter and the sooner we get it the better. And my point about Verizon failing hard at updating devices (not just to change their build number) still stands.

Flash isn't supported in Jellybean, so that is not something I am concerned with. As for the Samsung keyboard autocorrect, that again is pretty minor when you can sideload a superior-in-every-way keyboard.
Both of those are third party issues, and not worthy of an OS bump. That is my point. Its a minor (in every way) update. Yeah, Verizon sucks on updates, but people will whine about anything. You knew that going in, and hey, at least we saw multiwindow before ATT or Tmobile. Some of the touchwiz features we even saw before the International version.
Someone wake me when Samsung releases 4.2. Then I will be interested.

are you able to multi-window any app in 4.1.2 on the note 2? On the 10.1 we have to be running 4.1.2 for the multi-window because of something that changed. On 4.1.1 you have to edit each app.
I don't know a lot about coding, but that is big for me. I know on the note 2, most custom ROMs have this ability already, but the dev section of the 10.1 is pretty lean at the moment. Guess all the devs got nexus 7's and 10's.

Damn man so pessimistic lol
I love that flash still works. And the fact that Samsung actually took the time to fix it in their update means they care too.
As for the keyboard, I enjoy my extra row of numbers and see nothing wrong with it. The only reason I use the stock AOSP 4.2 keyboard right now is because it has auto-correct working. Otherwise, yeah I'd be using that Touchwiz goodness.
I'm not interested in the bump to 4.1.2. **** I wish they would just hotfix these two minor things without lumping it into a firmware update so I could enjoy these fixes without waiting months for Verizon. Unfortunately it is what it is and there's no reason for you to be defending them. I mean really, what point are you trying to make? We know 4.1.2 doesn't do much of anything for us, it's just a lot easier for us to say "we're waiting for 4.1.2 update" rather than "we're waiting for the update that fixes x y and z"
Cool story bro?

Not so much as pessimistic, but a hardened Verizon veteran that has seen too many wars with them.
That and a year on the Galaxy Nexus has shown me that newer isn't always better, 4.2 is a train wreck. By the time we see it, I hope the issues are worked out.

Is there something wrong with 4.1.1. that you NEED an update once google updates? 4.2.1 is still broken. Why do you think sometimes there is a delay from when google pushes an update to when you see it. Its more then just Verizon. If verizon put out the 4.2.1. update now for the nexus people would be calling left and right saying that their phone is rebooting when updating apps from the market, especially when you modify the lock screen widgets. No way verizon would approve something still broken.

I don't think anyone has done any new fixes for 4.3 conversion, as there's really not much point anymore. Some of the old fixes might still work, but you're probably better off converting back. Is there a particular ROM you want that hasn't been ported? If not, what's your reason to stay converted?

I saw this and I figured I'd jump in, I'm also converted and I'm wondering about a GPS fix- I've easily applied the fixes for Ext SD, Cap Keys, etc, however GPS seems to aloud me- I can't find a way to make it work in a normal fashion, Maybe if I'd give it like a long time it would work but then what's the point?
So, I was wondering, what was a way that worked for you to make GPS work?
Additionally, I will say that in all my time doing android (hasn't been long, but I've gone through at least 7-8 devices including most of the flagships) I've never seen any version of CM run as smooth and stable as a stock nexus 4, but that's just me- I like roms who work fairly quickly out of the box, not ones where you have to keep putting out fires and fixing stuff.
Anyway, regarding my question- any idea how to "fix" GPS?
Most of the experienced users and developers do not approve of the n4 conversion and a lot of us explicitly refuse to support it. So convert back, you should have just been patient and waited the wee bit of time it took to get aosp roms on here without converting.

Is that so? A developer's website which doesn't support developing? How wonderfully condescending of you!
Couple of things:
First off, I just did this conversion, after having being annoyed with the optimus UI in my optimus g which I procured from ebay at a wonderful price of 170$ for a mint in box price. I figured converting to a nexus 4 would simply grant me a wonderful stock rom to use, much like Galaxy S4 use flash the GPe rom for their own use.
The fact that this very simple process (honestly, just use the tot file provided in LGNPST, god almighty, it's child's play! only ODIN is easier than this!) is not supported in my eyes just goes to show the truly awful state in which we found ourselves in- Instead of exploring new avenues, we fear advancement and change and are told to "stick to our pre-approved roms".
Well sir, perhaps I'm not your idea of an "experienced user" but I will not be kow-towed! I'll just figure this out on my own, as I did with most things I needed to figure out while helping my friends with their android devices for the last couple of years.
Not to bash the devs of course, they offer us choice and we choose to put our heads in the sand.
In any case, have a wonderful day, let me know of anything else you don't approve of so I can immediately remove it from my life-

You're completely missing the point. It wasn't about being condescending at all, but to inform the user that no one with E970s are working on the converted version anymore, as you can run the ASOP perfectly fine "natively". So, since all development is going into working with the latest releases on non-converted E970, why should we recommend N4 converting your E970?? No one will help you should anything go wrong.
That's not being condescending, just a statement of facts. Sorry.
This issue could be avoided if people would just do a bit more reading before jumping into the conversion. I agree there is no real point to convert anymore.

The conversion was a hack released against the wishes of those who discovered it, then left unsupported. Dvhexer released some patches until 4.1 update made the whole thing pointless. If you convert your phone so you can feel like a rebel that's fine, but it will be pointed out how silly it is if support is asked for.

Agreed this 509 firmware is stagefright patched and was built like 5 weeks ago and its 5.0.2 I think this is all were getting and since the Z4v is no longer coming out I belive 5.0.2 is the end of the road for the Z3v. This 509 firmware is good though.
I can understand your frustration, but I wouldn't take it for 100% that Sony is intentionally excluding the Z3V... They will probably send the marshmallow firmware to Verizon, and because of that, we'll probably never receive it unless we get a lucky leak, but I doubt that because I don't think it'll even be a candidate for Internal Testing as I'm sure Verizon plans to push Lollipop, fulfill their year old promises, and be done with their EOL device.. so even if Sony does send them the firmware, Verizon is most likely going to sit on it until it's buried... But you have to think with articles like these, even if they are press statements from Sony, it's still likely that they could leave out the Z3V unintentionally because even though its a variant of the Z3, by saying the Z3 is getting the update, they could be collectively including the Z3V along with that... but either way, I agree that we'll most likely never get this update, and that sucks.... But I do think Verizon is going to give us the latest Lollipop for sure.... There's no reason not to jump it to 5.1.1 if Sony gave them the firmware, it's not a major update... I think they just wanted a solid Lollipop build in "testing" (an intentional leak out there to collect usage stats from people bold enough to flash it) with stagefright patches, etc to make sure they had a solid build before putting the finishing touches on the firmware. There is a different Kernel in the .509 version than the .485, as well as some other interesting differences that make me think they're gearing it for the latest Lolllipop... and really as long as we get that with working VOLTE.... I can be happy enough with that.

the thought did cross my mind that they would update 509 the rest of the way to 5.1.1 now that stagefright patch is out for z3 5.1.1 because it may be bad for business to have us on firmware we shouldn't have. I don't even care really Verizon made me sick with this shiit I guess I have to get a nexus phone next but I'm not doing that till they firgure out how to but an SD card in a phone. And thank you for your work and getting the ball rolling on Lollipop.

Thanks so much for the recognition. Somehow my leaked FTF of Lollipop was taken down, so I wasn't even sure if people still knew that I was the one that brought us that first Lollipop leak. I'm going to build us an amazing rom too.. I'm just waiting on Verizon to push their official build so that I won't be wasting my time building an outdated rom lol... U know like last time :/

you know are phones should be pretty close to being able to be unlocked by Verizon I was looking on eBay and there are unlocked Z3V's I dont know if they kept the drm keys but anyway once they release the final version..and we get our bootloader unlocked then we can go crazy. (edit)Unless that's a carrier unlock Im not sure if that unlocks the bootloader or if their the same.

FWIW VoLTE is working, for me at least, on .509 so I think we're getting really close to the official release.

I think they mean carrier unlocked, which all vzw phones are now, since like the Galaxy S4. Boot loader and carrier unlock are two completely different things.

my girlfriends droid turbo just received android 5.1 -
It was written on September 1st one day after ours was (509)-5.0.2 so maybe........ Soon or not it's Verizon.
http://phandroid.com/2015/10/07/sony-xperia-marshmallow-beta/ So the Z3 and Z3 compact are getting beta testing already.
Maybe leaked Marshmallow FTF for the Z3v soon.

Just though all the kids on here would like to know that there is a 6.0 release over the 5.1.1, after all numbers mean so much on this forum.
:good:
Didn't mean to kill the thunder of the leaked beta Lollipop.

I wasn't trying to be rude either I have had this phone for almost a year since it first came out and have received no support for this phone at all I have spent literally hundreds of hours trying to fix this phone myself because verzions incompetence I'm not sure for the reason for the leak or how it happened but I doubt very much we will receive 6.0 and I don't really give a **** I would just like them to realease a Lollipop version so I can have a feature I was promised a year ago -advanced calling. Also quick charge 2.0 is a listed feature- it's not. Verizon = Liars. Look at the Z4v that's a disaster to.

I am pretty tough skinned, it takes more than what you said to be considered "rude" to me.
I agree B.S. what VZW has done with the Advanced Calling 1.0, I am tired of getting the stepchild phones and VZW keeping us from getting the next OS release due to heavy-handed control. I mean Z3 getting a beta test for Marshmallow, seriously? Maybe the guy who got the leak can get Marshmallow leak, but I would like to have the latest OS if possible and I am sure others will agree.
An AOSP with a unlocked bootloader, I miss those days.
Is this bogus?
Hi I'm new to xda developers forum. Is this site BS that claims to offer a 6.0 rom for Z3v?
Since I'm new, I'm not allowed to share the link but it's from

Man it was so great to have the Droid when it first came out. ROM competition was tremendous and you could lead anything you wanted; if you could dream it, someone was already working on it.

I have a similar experience. My last phone was a Galaxy Nexus, it was an embarrassment of riches as far as being able to modify it. Different ROMs everywhere you looked, modified kernels, etc... Thanks to baldwinguy77 I was running KitKat 3 days after Google introduced it, even before any manufacturers had released phones with it.
The Xperia's lack of popularity with the general public is probably the cause of it's noticeable lack of developer interest. Few devs have one so few work on it.
I really like the phone, it's battery life is second to none. I may have to be satisfied running Lollipop but at least it is rooted so there's that.
Is it possible to totally remove all T-Mobile branding and simply flash the stock ROM (where to find?), which the unbranded LG V10 has, so as to get OTA updates directly from LG and not having to wait for T-Mobile? (My V10 has no SIM-Lock)
Turn a branded V10 into an unbranded V10...
Has anyone seen a thread or website with instructions?
Thanks!~

The problem with this is, the unbranded models are European /Asian market phone, which more than likely won't work on t-mobile network, but there is this really cool thing I do, which is called "Uninstalling apps" or "debloating" which gets rid of all tmobile related apps and bloat... So it's just like an LG phone then...
And to flash such a rom you would have to be unlocked, with a custom recovery which keeps you from getting OTA updates anyway... So I guess to answer your questions, no, no, no, no, & ummmm no.
Common sense isn't all that common...
My ROM is as close to unbranded as you're going to get. You can find it in the Android Development section.

There is nothing I want to do today, that I can't achieve with a few tricks. I'd like to play with Doze, maybe get the fingerprint reader to improve. Its already the best portable music server, I've ever used. I can access my work network and my home pc smoothly. The T-Mobile stuff doesn't bug me that much. Their network doesn't suck compared to my previous phones (going back 10 years). So..... patience is rewarded or I can jump to the Galaxy 7 edge in a few months.

Hi,
Some really bad news for anyone that's been unfortunate enough to purchase an A7 EU version.
I have contacted ZTEUK on FB messenger directly to ask about the Nougat update and this is their exact response.
"Hi Mike, Please keep an eye out on our social channels for any information regarding updates. We do not currently have plans to update to Nougat though this may change. Thanks, the ZTE UK team."
Taking into account the amount of EU phones out there this is beyond dreadful in terms of treatment, the question is, where do we go from here? I didn't want to bother rooting the phone, but is there any option left now it's possibly not getting the update at all?
No daydream, no patch fixes, no volume fix, the list goes on!!
How do we pressure ZTE into dealing with this, failing that what other options do we have?
Mike
Haha I doubt it, these customer reps have no idea.
There has been an extensive Nougat test going on as well as confirmations on twitter etc.
G Version will get Nougat.

I hope so, that brings some comfort, really the reps should not give throw away replies like that.
Thanks :good:
Don't worry, it just furthers the idea that global organization of ZTE is totally lacking, especially for their EU customers (far behind their american ones). Nougat was announced first by ZTE Germany back in November (originally planned for end of january) and is currently undergoing beta testing as far as I know. The thing is, ZTE Germany is apparently taking care of the dev for the G version but they officially supports only german customers, even if they kinda tried to create an "european" community. Other european branches (it's the case for ZTE france at least) of ZTE seem to be only PR posting advertisement on facebook/twitter. IMO, your rep just copy pasted the basic stonewalling response to this question and has either no information whatsoever or wanted to answer politely without getting carried away.
(If anyone has more info, feel free to correct me)
G Variant will sure get the Nougat Update soon, ZTE UK should know this too dont know why you got this answer from them. But if you G Variant user, follow ZTE Mobile Deutschland on Facebook
Coming from US nougat. There's still bugs, battery drain, etc. Issues that are in the release. I'd rather be back in MM honestly. A stable and complete release would've been better instead of releasing early due to demand. Just look up the issue with whatsapp. Millions of users and they didn't notice such a glaring bug.
I can say without a doubt in my mind that the Axon 2017G will also get Nougat. They are usually a little behind the US team with releases so I imagine it will probably be sometime in March
I wouldn't be surprised if you could just flash the bootstack and modem from LineageOS thread and flash A2017U system on top. I'm totally satisfied with LineageOS, so I'm not even thinking on doing that now or in the future.
The G Variant needs more time than us because they want to fix all founded bugs and increase the quality. like musicdjm said, it will release end feb. or beginning of march. zte could Release it in the end of January but there were too many bug, because of that they started a beta test phase and postponed the Release date

Yes you can. Few of us already using the B15 N ROM on the G model. All you need is an unlocked BL and TWRP, flash the universal N bootloader, N modem for G and the B15 stocksystem all by DrakenFX.

I have the US ZTE Axon 7 (A2017U) and updated to Nougat. What is the WhatsApp bug again? I haven't noticed anything but you can tell me and I will cry in a corner once I know. :crying:
@op When everything else fails, go to change.org and create a petition. The ASUS Zenfone 2 users did that and they are apparently getting the Nougat update in July.

The Axon7 G Variant will directly get 7.1.1
