Gmail App deleting Exchange accounts - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a SM-925I. On Australian Telstra network.
I have been using the Gmail App for my email. Originally there was no option to setup MS Exchange accounts, so i had to install the Exchange Services 6.5-1729047
By Google Inc APK file.
Ever since doing an OTA upgrade to 5.1.1, Gmail has been dropping both my Exchange accounts and i have to Add them again. This is most annoying.
It may also have something to do with 360 Security App that i have always been using which optimises the battery and memory of Android OS.
Can anyone tell me why Gmail App is dropping the Exchange accounts??

Also got the same problem on my new S6 edge. Anyone find a solution to this?

I have tried factory reset.
And have tried deleting app cache.
Exchange accounts still disappear and need to be readded every 5 or hours.

Anybody able to comment?
I really want to use Gmail App for my Exchange based corporate email.
Ever since updating to 5.1.1 the Exchange accounts disappear after a few hours and need to be readded.

Trying APK Google Exchange Services for Google M Preview 3.
Will report back tomorrow.

Same thing happening to me:
Galaxy S6 on Android 5.1.1 (kernel version 3.10.61-5012324)
Gmail version 5.5.101116392
Exchange Services version 6.5-1791555

Have tried Exchange Services 5.0.100419619 (From M Preview 3) and this also deleted my Exchange Accounts after a few hours.
This is a major problem.

Are you guys rooted or have knox tripped? Deletes it for me too so trying to narrow it down on what may be causing it.

Guys, 'just want to report that the same thing is happening on Note 4 since upgrading to Samsung 5.1.1 rom, so guessing it's something with this manufacturer's customizations?

There seem to be some people also suffering in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/exchange-account-disappears-frequently-t3176427
As to evonc's question: I'm not rooted, nothing special done.

I'm not rooted either.
I am using 360 Security which clears my phone memory and preserves battery life. But have told it to ignore gmail and Google exchange services.

Sorry for the necro and cross-device post, but I'm on an S5 with XtreStoLite Unofficial 2.3 (5.0.2) and having the same issues. Exchange Services 6.5 and 5.0 from M both result in the death of my exchange account every so often.
1) Why is Exchange Services called 5.0 from M; is it an older version?
2) Any ideas on why this is happening? Maybe SeLinux?

Disabled Exchange Services

After an OTA upgrade to 4.0.4 on my Nexus S i started getting shocking battery drain from Exchange Services regardless of sync settings on my corporat email account.
To try and stop it i disabled Exchange Services but I cant see where to start it again? I have no Exchange Services app listed any more and cant even sync Outlook mail manually.
I've rebooted the phone and removed/readded the account but I just get a "cant connect to server" error.
Any ideas how to re-enable this?
Thanks
Hi,
Did you figure out how to re-enable exchange services? I was having a problem with it as well after the ICS update, only my issue was it was using ridiculous amounts of data, about 1gb a week. So I had to disable it, but now I cannot connect to corp email account as well. My temporary fix was to download touchdown but personally I like the stock corp email client better.
I was thinking maybe doing a factory reset? But I'm not sure if that will even bring exchange services back and Verizon has been absolutely no help.
Thanks

[Q] Hi Data Usage - Exchange

Hi All
I tend to stick to the One X forums when posting, but this is a work related issue. We support multiple Android devices, that use ActiveSync for Exchange services. We're running Exchange Server 2010 and the mobile in question is a Telecom r22 (hunk of rubbish).
All of a sudden, Data usage for the stock email app went from 30Mb per month to 150Mb+
Can anybody think of why this has happened? Note that wiping the device is not an option. It is not rooted and stock etc. Currently running ICS 4.0
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Do you know if the Exchange 2010 got any recent updates?
Also do you know if the Exchange server isn't having some outages on the net?
Also have you got any way to tell if there isn't something changing frequently on the exchange, and that's why it syncs more?

Thanks for the response, as far as I'm aware the sync schedule is set on the device. This hasn't changed. The schedule is two weeks sync using push mail. I did think that push could be the problem, but most days the emails received calculated all together are 5Mb or thereabouts. The day I started this thread, the data usage went 50Mb+ that day alone.
I did install update roll up 6 for Exchange Server 2010 Sp2 recently. But the change log for that roll up does not include any changes to Exchange ActiveSync. There are no 'frequent' changes on the server side.
Thanks
Did you ever figure anything out with this? I am having the same problem. Data usage one day was 250MB before I noticed.
I'm not sure what our Exchange setup is but I have noticed if I remove the account from the phone and set it back up the problem goes away for about a month then comes back.

[Q] 5.1 and Microsoft Exchange services

Hi,
I was wondering what options are there in AOSP 5.1 roms to have my Microsoft Exchange email account up 'n' running? I tried adding the latest Microsoft exchange services app, my account seems to be set up through Gmail app but in reality, no emails show up in any folder and whenever I manually synchronize there's an exchange services force close error... Do I need the old email app? And if so, do I also need the separate services app?
Thanks
I just installed com.google.android.gm.exchange-6.5-1729047-500065-minAPI19.apk and com.google.android.gm-5.1.89745174-51001549-minAPI14.apk from the Apkmirror. It works for me (Exchange 2010).
The first file you mention is the exact same file I installed as well. Not the second one though, could that be the reason it's FCing?
I had the same Problem with the previous gmail version now it disappeared. Google updated the gmail version in the play store yesterday. I think you can use that version also. It should be the same.
I installed the MS exchange services file but the problem seems to be with the gmail app. For some reason, I am running com.google.android.gm 5.0.1 1642443, doesn't sound right for a 5.1 rom does it?
Your version is the one from play store. My version is 5.1.89745174 from apkmirror try this one.

Exchange Services 6.5-1729047 mail sync overheating phone
My phone is overheating with the update to Exchange Services update (6.5-1729047) which I downloaded from APKMIRROR. I am also using Gmail 5.1.89745174 . I'm running CM12 nightly.
Exchange Services is taking upwards of 16% of battery. Had to disable mail sync to cool it down. Calendar and contacts seem to be working ok, but had to revert to Aquamail for email.
Anyone with similar experiences?

Compatibility issues with the Gmail app, Exhange security settings and Smart Lock?

Despite what my first points might suggest, this does not seem to just be an issue with the Exchange admin disabling Smart Lock.
First the issue: When I add my work e-mail, it completely disables Smart Lock and all the underlying features with the note "Disabled by administrator".
Of course, this sounds like they have disabled this server side.
The thing is though, that this worked problem free up until recently, when I had to reset my phone and then add my account again.
I checked with the admins and they claimed nothing have been changed on the server.
It also did not affect anyone else using Android phones.
Then I tried removing and re-adding the account on a colleague's phone and now he got the same issue.
Turns out that this only happens with the newest Gmail app. (5.2).
If I uninstall updates and downgrade Gmail to 5.0 or 5.1 ish and then add the Exchange account, I can activate Smart Lock without problems.
It keeps working problem free, even after upgrading the Gmail app.
In short, my testing suggests that this only an issue if you add the Exchange account after upgrading the Gmail app to 5.2.
This workaround is serviceable for now, but it won't work anymore after Android M arrives, as then the system app version will start at 5.2 and can't be downgraded (I tried through adb install, but then everything just started crashing).
Because of this, I thought it might be time to find the actual cause here.
Any tips and suggestions?
Any helpful info I could provide?
Am I even close to being correct in my assumptions of fault?
Since I'm on M preview too, I also hope for a solution....

[Q] Email problem Lollipop

Hello Everyone!
I have a problem with the Email app since Lollipop update .232 Europe CE1. I have many e-mail addresses, like private and company and other. I added 2 of my email addresses with IMAP and now I cannot add more, because if I want to do it, after the last step it says "Account not found. I might have been deleted.". I get this message with IMAP and with Exchange too (@live.com address). Does anyone have a solution for this? Or I'm the only one with this really annoying problem?
Thanks in advance
Well, it seems I'm the only one having this issue
Great! Maybe .264 update will solve this problem ...
Próbáld meg eltávolítani az összes e-mail fiókot és újra add hozzá. Ha ez sem működik akkor próbáld meg a Gmail alkalmazással, azzal hátha fog
Flashed .264, problem exists, so I give up. Waiting for my company phone next year and then I'll use my company emails on it.

I started having this problem but only after the e-mail app update that sony did recently. exactly the same "Account not found. It might have been deleted." error as you. I've seen similar reports on rom threads too, can't remember where exactly so you're not alone.
Anyway the good news is that i've always managed to get my 4 accounts working (2 gmail / 1 pop / 1 exchange) after trying to add them a bunch of times they finally stick (sometimes 10 tries sometimes more like 50 lol ... i'm really persistant xD )

Hello,
got the same issue. Just deleted my Exchange Account cause I've had some syncing issues. Now I'm getting this message, when I try to create the account on my phone again.
My other email accoutns are working perfect.
Haven't found anything about this issue on the www.
I'm on Customized DE 23.4.A.1.264
You got any idea right now how to solve it?
Greets,
n3087
I have no idea about this weird issue. Everything was flawless on 5.0.2, but since then the Email app is just a crap ... I'm on .264 too, but problem still exists. Maybe on Marshmallow ...
Hello,
Yesterday I found a solution for me.
First I made a Backup of my current configuration.
After that I deactivated every app that has to do with mail service.
Like exchange, email, kalender, etc. Also cleared all the data. Then I deactivated the auto sync service.
Now I restarted the mobile. Now activate all the apps again except exchange 5.*
After that I added my mail exchange account with success. Now just activate exchange 5 and auto sync. Get back the other mail accounts with the backup made before.
Right now everything is working for me.
Full wipe wasn't an option for me cause my mobile is encrypted.
N3087
I also got this "account not found. it might have been deleted" error.
story:
I rooted following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...ck-d6502-03-23-4-0-546-completeguide-t3171219
Did not try the Email app while briefly on 23.4.a.0.546. I am now on 23.4.a.1.200.
I came from 5.1.1, 23.4.a.1.232, D6503 where I backed up several app installs (apk). I happened to also backup the Email-app.
my solution:
I started the Email apk to see what version it was compared to the one I was running.
The same (8.1). I installed it over the existing install anyway to see what would happen.
I had one mail account added at this point.
NOW I could add another mail account!
BUT! When trying to add a second one, the error was back. So I installed the app again and I was able to add another mail account.
This was repeatable. I did this three times.
Thought: It MIGHT work to just reinstall the app you are already running if you get the apk. In my case the versions appeared to be the same.
I did not try to uninstall the Email app completely and then try to add accounts from "scratch".
Strange error with a strange "solution"; or work-around.
Edit: I did not try to add accounts until after I had removed a ton of Sony and Google crapware (my main reason for rooting).
So I dont know if the error is related to app removal.

Hello,
My phone isn't rooted and so I'm not able to uninstall pre-installed apps.
I hope this bug will be fixed on the next update...
SOLVED: Pause the Auto-Sync in Settings>Accounts
Good day to all! I stumbled across the solution (at least for me on my Z3c) by speed reading through all the previous replies and noting what seemed to pop out. Basically with auto-sync still activated the email app can't sync, delete, add, etc (decide) what it should do first. So, within Settings>Accounts tap the top right 3 dots and disable (uncheck) the auto-sync feature. Return to the email app (or I suppose calendar or any app causing a similar issue) and add the account. Once all accounts are added to the app, return to Settings>Accounts to re-enable auto-sync and all works (Finally!). Cheers!

Had the same problem on my Z1 and it worked!!!

Problem still not solved October 2016
I have the same problem with Xperia Z1 compact, Lollipop 5.1.1. I have two accounts but can not add the third, same message. Tried re-setting, clearing cache, didn't help. Autosync was already unchecked.
Seems to be a Sony problem, haven't seen anything on www about other vendors.
Any solutions other than rooting the phone or third party apps?
Thanks!
PS Sony has marked their threads as "solved" while it definetely is not. Little white lies.
