My phone won't stop uploading. It basically uploads at its maximum bandwidth for almost all hours of the day.. According to My Data Manager it's caused by Google Contacts Sync, which has uploaded almost 700mb in the last 4 or 5 hours. I've gone into my accounts settings and turned contacts syncing off, but it's still uploading, which has me concerned.
As you can imagine, this is destroying my battery. Restarting has no effect. I could factory reset, but I'd rather figure out what's causing the problem. Bad app update? Haven't installed anything out with the Play Store other than a couple of Humble Bundle games, and they were long before this started happening. Everything that should be syncing, like Photos, is switched off.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but
Recently ive been trying sense roms and they just haven't been able to sync facebook and my contacts, before sometimes by the time i had finished the setup, my contacts were linked with photos (well most of them) ive tried clearing the data, cache, removing the account and adding it again, leaving it overnight, but nothings happening. Maybe its a problem HTC is having.
Anyone having the same problem?
This is a common problem. You sometimes have to wait up to 6 hours for it to properly sync. I would wait at least 2 hours between trying each fix. Typically fixes have included:
Removing and re-adding your facebook account
Doing the above on 3G (or lower) only
Doing the above on WiFi only
Removing the account, re-installing the facebook app and adding your account through the app rather than the settings menu
ive tried all of that trust me
Then try again. It does work as i've had it broken and working on the same rom. It is just very picky sometimes.
Make sure you're on the latest version of whichever rom your using (would be helpful to know).
Don't do too much at once and be more patient with it. This isn't something you'll fix in a few hours or a day. Try spending a few hours without a facebook account activated at all. Reboot a few times without the facebook app and any account. Let your phone sync everything else for a few hours. Then try adding the facebook account without facebook app installed (don't force a sync) just let it sync in its own time - could take 3 hours or more. After that time try a forced sync. If nothing happens get the facebook app and add your details to that and see if that helps. etc etc. I would probably repeat this process on 3G and on WiFi separately.
Which rom's have you tried? and how long have you had each installed?
ok thanks, i'll try this
i'm using the mmod rom
EDIT: thanks very much, i removed facbeook, rmeoved the account, left it for about two hours, added the account and its working now!
I have these double circular arrows up top next to the H+. They are not spinning, just setting there. They don't seem to ever go away. Is this using data or what. Not sure what is causing. My phone is rooted with a few things frozen but nothing that has anything to do with syncing.
thanks for any help
It sure seems something is still syncing... You can test what it is by going into Settings » Accounts and disabling individual sync services for any accounts that have them.

No, I only have the Moto Blur default account and there are no setting for that. It has a little lock by it. I don't use it, I use K9 mail program for all my email including google but in my System account there is my Yahoo account that is the default, locked account and a google account, neither of which have any setting at all.

Nope, I tried that and the arrows remain. Also, something strange I think. The arrows stay there even if I turn Airplane Mode on!
Sounds like a silly question, did you reboot?
I rebooted many times. I started removing apps so hopefully I could find it but each time I restarted those sync arrows came back. I also tried freezing every thing I could but no luck so today I unfroze everything and still couldn't get rid of them. Something was always trying to sync. I noticed that my battery life was shorter today so I did a factory data reset and now I am in the process of rooting it again and installing my apps again.
Thanks for all your help and I will be more careful and systematic this time but what I learned is that one needs to be careful about installing apps. Read the reviews first because some programs are memory hogs, some take over your system, etc.
I've only seen that when I started up this new phone.
I shall look for it. I really like my phone. Look at it often.
(Wow, that was nerdy.)

Yeah, the Atrix is still relatively new to the dev scene so most mods are going to have side effects. Basically, just be prepared to do some resets and such until something has been labeled "stable". I'm already on my second Atrix because I messed up the lights for the capacitive buttons and something went wrong with charging, it would always say it was charging even when unplugged. The problems even persisted after a factory restore. Luckily I was able to unroot it and bring it in for a new one before my 30 days was up.
When you see the "sync" icon there, you can go to:
Settings > Accounts > tap on an account, say Gmail.
If something is sync-ing, you'll see the sync-ing icon beside the checkbox for contacts/emails/calendar.
I know on mine, when it syncs with my google calendar, it takes a good 2 mins...odd considering i have less than 10 entries. lol.
I got curious why the sync icon was there for a while, so this was where I looked to figure out what was sync-ing.
Download os monitor and look sort by load. See what is taking up the load and that is your rogue syncing app. Likely it is stuck on a google contact that is corrupted (if acore is your issue in os monitor)
i had the same icon on my notification and i froze account sync and calendar sync, it was killing my battery around 10% per hour. the icon went away after a reset and i have no idea what caused it. looking in titanium i saw an app called SyncML 2.2.1 that has a similar icon but i have no idea if its the app thats responsible, still froze it.
Hi Everyone, I search everywhere and couldnt find an answer for this. So here goes.
Calendar
I was syncing and unsyncing with my samsung to google calendars, then the next day I checked, I realized all my events disappeared.
I did not erase anything yet all my events were gone.
I did notice that something was occurring during the period that I lost my data.
I saw that my default Samsung browser on my smart phone went on a refresh loop on google home page. This was an issue on googles end and was resolved eventually.
This was one of google's problems. There would be an issue with google recognizing me logging on the google home page and gmail. This lasted for a week. I wonder if that caused my data to disappear?
There are a few links below describing what happened. I'm wondering if this is an issue with Google, samsung+google, or syncing in general.
if I can recover my lost events that would be great!
It seems like a lot of them has to do with smartphones syncing, which is what I did. Even if there isn’t a solution or a recovery for this, it would be great to at least get an understanding as to why this happened (so i can avoid it in the future). I am currently storing everything local to my phone and havne’t experienced any loss of information. It’s quite disconcerting that if I did use google calendars, at any moment, all my events can go missing.

DATA
My data usage resets either randomly (before the cycles) or there is a delay on applying cycles? My data usage basically self erased leaving the charts to show nothing and the apps still ahve the data used.
1)
I realized that the data was still there until I started to sync with my TiBu to dropbox/google drive. Then my data went to 0 on the charts.
I was still able to see the data used per app, but nothing shows on the charts.
Although it may not be accurate I use this feature a lot. I would just like to know what makes it reset on its own?
My cycle is on the 2nd of each month and I lost it on the 15th.
2)
Another issue is the vertical lines that shows you data used on each time period. I would like it to default to my cycle (so i dont have to readjust everytime) Does anyone know how to do this?
Thinking back.......I think I did have my cycle set as the 15th, but that was changed a long time ago.
Could it be possible that the change only takes effect after the cycle is complete?
For example
Jan 1, 2000. I set my cycle to the 10th of every month.
Jan 2, 2000 I change it to 25th of every month.
I think it will still reset on the 10th?
Thanks everyone!!!

I have a coworker who asked me about his Galaxy S5. He showed me how Facebook has used 2.7GB of mobile data alone (5.71GB of Wi-Fi!). He's a light user who reads his news feed and uploads one or two pictures a week. His video streaming option is set to Wi-Fi only, and Facebook isn't syncing contacts or photos. He isn't rooted, and has everything stock; he hasn't even changed launchers. Not a tech user at all.
One thing he does that seems strange is, after he's done using Facebook, he logs out. I don't know how strange that is. I've never logged out. I secure my phone, but not any of my apps. This guy doesn't mind putting his password in every time. The only thing I can think of is that logging out clears the app's cache, but why would it?
I told him to use Chrome and showed him how to enable data compression, but I don't think that's going to help too much.
I checked my own Facebook usage (HTC One M8) and Facebook has used 0.07GB. So like, 70MB. That sounds more like it.
I'm shocked by the 2.7GB, but the 5.71GB is just nuts. Or when you add them together to get 9.4GB. Unless he's lying and he actually is recording video at the GS5's highest capacity (2K?) and uploading hours and hours of it... I just don't see it.
Just thought I'd throw it out there. It's a pretty niche case.
EDIT: I couldn't get it out of my head that he logs out every time, so I did an experiment with my phone (HTC One M8). Checked my Facebook cache. 64MB. So I open Facebook, and log out. Check the cache again — 3.7MB. Scroll Facebook about 10-20 pages, check cache. Around 6MB. Logged out, cache is back to 3.7MB. Scrolled Facebook even farther and got it up to 8MB. Cleared cache again. 3.7MB again.
Similar results on his GS5.
I'm not sure logging out of Facebook and rebuilding the cache every time accounts for 9GB, but it's a start. The man is a grandfather, and during the cache clearing trials, he opened a video of a baby. I respected his privacy and didn't look, but I wonder if he's been watching that video and having to download it every time. That and other videos.
I told him to stop logging out of Facebook, at least to see if it brings his data usage back down. He already had it set to not use background data, and I showed him how to manually clear it out of memory (home button, recent button, swipe Facebook away). I know he doesn't need to and you probably know he doesn't need to, but he wanted a way to "get rid of it" until he needed it again.
In the last couple of weeks I noticed that gmail is not always up to date. Started looking into it and found that auto sync for google account is not working right. It always syncs manually. If I don't touch it - it syncs randomly. Sometimes emails arrive 3-4 hours after they get to gmail. Other times they get to the phone in time. If I open google account from settings - accounts, I can see the times it synced all the elements and sometimes they're way behind.
All the auto-sync is enabled on the phone. I tried clearing data and cache, removed and readded google account, finally did a full reset last night. This morning it didn't show emails that arrived in the middle of the night. I went into the account and forced it to sync. It worked and 2 hours later still working but I'm sure it'll stop at some point. Are there any logs I can look at? any ideas how to troubleshoot this?
you didnt say what ROM & version this is
