Hi Everyone, I search everywhere and couldnt find an answer for this. So here goes.
Calendar
I was syncing and unsyncing with my samsung to google calendars, then the next day I checked, I realized all my events disappeared.
I did not erase anything yet all my events were gone.
I did notice that something was occurring during the period that I lost my data.
I saw that my default Samsung browser on my smart phone went on a refresh loop on google home page. This was an issue on googles end and was resolved eventually.
This was one of google's problems. There would be an issue with google recognizing me logging on the google home page and gmail. This lasted for a week. I wonder if that caused my data to disappear?
There are a few links below describing what happened. I'm wondering if this is an issue with Google, samsung+google, or syncing in general.
if I can recover my lost events that would be great!
It seems like a lot of them has to do with smartphones syncing, which is what I did. Even if there isn’t a solution or a recovery for this, it would be great to at least get an understanding as to why this happened (so i can avoid it in the future). I am currently storing everything local to my phone and havne’t experienced any loss of information. It’s quite disconcerting that if I did use google calendars, at any moment, all my events can go missing.

DATA
My data usage resets either randomly (before the cycles) or there is a delay on applying cycles? My data usage basically self erased leaving the charts to show nothing and the apps still ahve the data used.
1)
I realized that the data was still there until I started to sync with my TiBu to dropbox/google drive. Then my data went to 0 on the charts.
I was still able to see the data used per app, but nothing shows on the charts.
Although it may not be accurate I use this feature a lot. I would just like to know what makes it reset on its own?
My cycle is on the 2nd of each month and I lost it on the 15th.
2)
Another issue is the vertical lines that shows you data used on each time period. I would like it to default to my cycle (so i dont have to readjust everytime) Does anyone know how to do this?
Thinking back.......I think I did have my cycle set as the 15th, but that was changed a long time ago.
Could it be possible that the change only takes effect after the cycle is complete?
For example
Jan 1, 2000. I set my cycle to the 10th of every month.
Jan 2, 2000 I change it to 25th of every month.
I think it will still reset on the 10th?
Thanks everyone!!!

I have these double circular arrows up top next to the H+. They are not spinning, just setting there. They don't seem to ever go away. Is this using data or what. Not sure what is causing. My phone is rooted with a few things frozen but nothing that has anything to do with syncing.
thanks for any help
It sure seems something is still syncing... You can test what it is by going into Settings » Accounts and disabling individual sync services for any accounts that have them.

No, I only have the Moto Blur default account and there are no setting for that. It has a little lock by it. I don't use it, I use K9 mail program for all my email including google but in my System account there is my Yahoo account that is the default, locked account and a google account, neither of which have any setting at all.

Nope, I tried that and the arrows remain. Also, something strange I think. The arrows stay there even if I turn Airplane Mode on!
Sounds like a silly question, did you reboot?
I rebooted many times. I started removing apps so hopefully I could find it but each time I restarted those sync arrows came back. I also tried freezing every thing I could but no luck so today I unfroze everything and still couldn't get rid of them. Something was always trying to sync. I noticed that my battery life was shorter today so I did a factory data reset and now I am in the process of rooting it again and installing my apps again.
Thanks for all your help and I will be more careful and systematic this time but what I learned is that one needs to be careful about installing apps. Read the reviews first because some programs are memory hogs, some take over your system, etc.
I've only seen that when I started up this new phone.
I shall look for it. I really like my phone. Look at it often.
(Wow, that was nerdy.)

Yeah, the Atrix is still relatively new to the dev scene so most mods are going to have side effects. Basically, just be prepared to do some resets and such until something has been labeled "stable". I'm already on my second Atrix because I messed up the lights for the capacitive buttons and something went wrong with charging, it would always say it was charging even when unplugged. The problems even persisted after a factory restore. Luckily I was able to unroot it and bring it in for a new one before my 30 days was up.
When you see the "sync" icon there, you can go to:
Settings > Accounts > tap on an account, say Gmail.
If something is sync-ing, you'll see the sync-ing icon beside the checkbox for contacts/emails/calendar.
I know on mine, when it syncs with my google calendar, it takes a good 2 mins...odd considering i have less than 10 entries. lol.
I got curious why the sync icon was there for a while, so this was where I looked to figure out what was sync-ing.
Download os monitor and look sort by load. See what is taking up the load and that is your rogue syncing app. Likely it is stuck on a google contact that is corrupted (if acore is your issue in os monitor)
i had the same icon on my notification and i froze account sync and calendar sync, it was killing my battery around 10% per hour. the icon went away after a reset and i have no idea what caused it. looking in titanium i saw an app called SyncML 2.2.1 that has a similar icon but i have no idea if its the app thats responsible, still froze it.
Take a look at my wakelocks. For some reason, calendar is holding one entirely too long. My Gmail wakelock seems a little high too, but not out of the ordinary (I receive and send a lot of emails during the day). I noticed the calendar wakelock when it was at 37 minutes. I thought it may have been because I leave calendar notifications in the status bar. Cleared them - no luck, still holding it. Went to calendar settings and turned off notifications - no luck, still holding it. Weird thing is my battery life has still been pretty good, but my device shouldn't be working that hard, for that long.
Does anyone know what "StartingAlertService" (associated with calendar) is? I need some help in pinpointing exactly how to stop this wakelock. Not using the calendar (or using an alternate one) is not an option.

The problem is in TouchWizCalendar.apk not releasing the wakelock properly in class ServiceHandler inside class AlertService

The touchwiz calendar from his thread fixes the problem. It will work on any Samsung-based rom, 9100 hellraised or i777 bases.

Man that's weird... High sync wakelock usage seems like what I call "gmail weak-signal battery rape". Battery would start dropping like a rock if the phone lost signal at certain points during the sync cycle without the cpuidle fix. Things got much better after implementing the cpuidle fix in the kernel, but drain would still be much higher than normal. However your calendar wakelock doesn't seem to be related to sync. I suggest Googling it, or try temporarily disabling calendar sync.
Does this only happen when in weak signal areas?

I know, I thought the same thing. I'll keep looking around. It finally stopped at 1 hr 14 mins of wakelock. I hadn't figured out anything else to change so it stopped on its own. If it picks back up again, I'll disable sync in an attempt to gather more information. I've been in a pretty weak signal area for most of the day. I'll monitor it when in other coverage situations.
Update: So I found a HTC Hero thread over a year old over at AndroidForums and it appears that the remedy is to clear data of the calendar application (there were 3 in manage applications that were associated with calendar, so I cleared them all) and re-sync. I had to uncheck and recheck the sync option for Google Calendar, which is what brought my events back. Like I mentioned, the wakelock ended up stopping on its own, but hopefully this will prevent it from occurring again.

I was having the same problem. I rebooted the phone, went in to the manage applications list and hit clear cache and clear data in the calendar app. Then I went to accounts & sync and re-synced the calendar and it has been working fine ever since. I also use spare parts to monitor the battery useage and awake time, so I can see if it ever pops up again. Been about a week now and the calendar is not keeping my phone awake any longer.

OK, so it was a variation on sync battery rape.
I know if you have a Google service that doesn't seem to be syncing reliably (missing events in Calendar, missing emails in Gmail), clearing data for that app usually fixes it.
I have the similar issue but uncheck the calendar sync for my Hotmail solves the problem (just as it did on my Captivate 2.3 ROM). I can't believe Samsung hasn't address the Hotmail calendar sync bug yet.
On Saturday I had used 426mb of data on my AT&T plan and my cycle ends tomorrow. Purchased Galaxy S2 phone on Sunday at around 11:30am. The guy at BestBuy original set up my accounts email etc.. Yesterday I got a text from AT&T stating that I had used 80% of my data plan. This morning at 9:27 I got another text from AT&T stating that I had used 90% of my data plan. I then recieved another text at 11:13 stating that I went over my limit and was going to be charged $10. Now the kicker is my cycle starts tomorrow so I was not that worried about the 90% limit that I hit earlier because I figured tomorrow it would reset anyways. Well after the last text I tried to figure out what app may be causing the issue and I downloaded an app called "My Data Manager" it showed that my email app was the culprit. The amazing thing is I kept refreshing the app every few minutes and It showed that my email app was averaging 8mb of data used per minute. I quickly did a hard reset and started using the gmail version of the mail app and I have not had a problem. Funny thing I was wondering over the course of the last 2 days why my battery life was horrible and my phone would get extremely hot sometimes. Earlier today I even took a risk and purchased the only extended battery I could locate for this version of the Galaxy on Ebay. Come to find out the email app that comes on the phone could have been the cause for all of my issues. I have also noticed such a drastic change in battery life since I reset my phone.
I also want to say that I did go into settings and made sure back ground sync was turned off before resetting the phone. When I opened the email app to go into the settings to remove my account information the data literally started churning away immediately I had a Samsung Captivate prior to this phone and I have never ever had this problem before. Called AT&T to see if they could at least get rid of the charge based off the fact that I typically only use 1gig of data monthly and they should be able to tell that using 400mb per day was not normal based on my past. No dice but I am just glad I was able to figure out the problem.
It totally depends what types of email account you set up and whether or not you're using Push email (GMail is push email). And what email server you're hitting. Yahoo, for example, has been blamed for its faulty IMAP server implementation in the past.
Thanks. I did have my yahoo mail account synched as well so may that was the culprit. I may try and use the native application again this weekend to see if I can replicate the problem again and since I will be home I won't have to worry about burning thru my data plan.
If you have million emails all left in the inbox, they all have to be synced over to the phone when you first connect, especially you're not using GMail or any Exchange ActiveSync. Gmail will only sync recently mails until you need to read more. Exchange ActiveSync only syncs last 3 days of emails out of box unless you set it to sync all. You don't have that kind of control on other email types like POP3/IMAP emails.
Hi guys,
I am synchronizing my work email on my S3. However since I have a data cap, i just got a warning i've almost exceeded my limit. Looking at the stats, the email exchange services have used 282 MB of data for less than a month.
So, can anyone tell me what settings I need to set. On my old phone (custom rom) i did not have to worry about those things, but I guess the stock Samsung email app needs config.
I am sync-ing only 3 days
push
Auto download attachments - OFF
Size to retrieve emails - 100 kb (my guess is this is the problem, but what is the right value??)
Period to sync calendar - 3 months
Text preview size 128
maybe the data is just an initial thing if its your first month - i have exact settings on my work exchange and nowhere near as much usage. exchange is PUSH however - so whatever arrives in your inbox arrives on your phone...
You could look at Sync Schedule to reduce out of hours data, or just turn off sync if your data plan is limited.
weird question - you sync 3 days but do you often search back more than that in your history? increasing your sync period could actually use less data. Mine is set to two weeks... obv watch your useage tho, don't want mad crazy charges. That or use more wifi!
IMHO - if youre worried I'd get more data allowance.

I have been doing sync with the same plan for over a year with my old phone using a custom rom -- never had such issues. It seems like on my new S3 and the stock Samsung app that is messing things up. For example the setting "Size to retrieve emails" is not in the ICS roms that I have used, and i guess the default values were better than the Samsung app.
This is why I wonder what is the right setting.
Any other inputs? I tried searching but could not find a recommended "Size to retrieve emails"..
Hi there, am looking for some help with a problem that is driving me mad !
A few weeks back, noticed that my calendar had a couple of duplicated appointments and was missing a few from that day. Wasn’t a big issue and cleared Calendar cache and resynced and everything came back ok.
However since then, it has been getting progressively worse and worse – where today I have 40+ copies of some of todays appointments and missing everything in the afternoon!
I have tried a factory reset, and am only using Exchange as the single account on the phone. No other accounts are synced at all. And email seems unaffected, just calendar.
Am on a stock-VF 4.1.1 ROM – no mods at all, with kernal 3.0.31-256827.
I’m using sPlanner as the calendar App, but have also installed the “JB Calendar” and another calendar app – neither show my correct information.
Our local tech support for Exchange, tell me this is a phone issue – but after a replacement phone – it can’t be … right?
So today, have removed the exchange account again, wiped phone, readded – and end up with duplicates within 20-30 mins of setting up account. Now tearing my hair out….so would welcome any recommendations or suggestions?
Many thanks,
C&A.
At the end of today, had 450 copies of one appointment... something is clearly not right!
