Fuse Blown on Bootloader Unlock - Nexus 6P General

So this article was just posted on XDA about a irreversible Fuse which is blown on the 6P when you unlock the bootloader. This doesn't mean the phone loses functionality, rather you can't revert it which most likely will void the warranty.
To some this may not be a prob, but I would like to know I can relock the bootloader and claim a warranty if need be.
Anyone else have thoughts on this... Any ways around...??

Official yes, but if you flash back to stock and wipe the flash counter they wont be able to tell.
here in the uk i dont think they could legally stop warranty for a hardware defect like a bad screen or speaker etc because the phone had root in place :-/
this is dodgy ground but why would / should a software mod stop warranty on hardware components that have failed when the root has nothing to do with them
but officially yes rooting voids warranty
keep a stock/unrooted cwm backup on your memory card and you can always flash back in an emergency

Yes and No Samsung can void warranty as its in the T&C .
The seller who is responsible for the phone can also void warranty as Samsung warrant the phone to them .
One Samsung have sent out to all service a reminder to look for evidence of rooting and two they even install a custom rom counter .
Its not against SOGA to have such conditions on warranty .
Hardware well yes it can be argued but the user would have to prove that the hardware was faulty with an independent engineers report .That would then be rejected once more by Samsung as not Samsung firmware on the phone . User then has to go through the courts .
Will a service centre notice or bother that i have non standard firmware often not but enough posts on XDA to suggest a number do and if it goes back to Samsung its definitely rejected .Hence the reason some pay for a JTAG machine repair .
Enough evidence to suggest that it is stupid not to take steps to be able to return your phone to a condition where it will be accepted under warranty .

Suggestions to all members

Congratulations on your new phone!
Here are some steps you can take to ensure that when full unlock s-off becomes available you too can join in on the fun.
1: Do Not Accept Any OTA Updates! unless listed as a requirement or it is listed as a step in the guide to full unlock
2: Wait patiently for your soon to be favorite developer to write a detailed guide involving all necessary steps to fully unlock your phone.
These are steps that many will already know and not realize there are others that may not be aware.
It may take time to get full unlock, remember NO ETA and don't ask for one. the devs WILL be hard at work to enjoy the phone unlocked too.
no one has it yet lol
I wonder who will post the first thread asking when will we have root or they'll return the phone?
preorders will receive it shortly, this will answer some questions that some may have regarding steps to take after receiving it,
these steps can be done at a moments notice if need be, but they cannot be undone, better to wait and see
Good post I learned the hard way about OTA's! I applied one on my OG EVO 4G and lost root for a few months. I must say it did suck!

In regards to #2, what's wrong with using the HTC unlock method as it pertains to acquiring an unlock at a later time? Or, is the only issue the risk of a voided warranty?

Why void your warranty when you know there will be a root released fairly soon after the device launches (or before the devices launches if you're the OG Evo ).

Has there been confirmation that the warranty will be voided? I know the HTCDev site states "May void your warranty" not that it does for sure.
An example of the vagueness of this language: I recently did an ECU upgrade on my car and Renntech stated it "may void my warranty" but according to Mercedes-Benz, the warranty is still fully intact even with the modification...

i mentioned it because leaving the phone stock gives the developers a blank slate to start with, there is a possibility that unlocking the bootloader might prevent full s-off in some way.
As someone totally new to the smartphone arena, thanks for the helpful post!

There is a thread in one x forums (international) in depth about this. Apparently HTC is using this vague reference as a way to save money (and even MAKE money -300$ required factory reset reqd when shipped to HTC) now that they provide a half assed unlock. Go have a look if you doubt me. I read it for several days.

Also to the people that will be getting their phones from Best Buy. Do not allow the BB employee to do an OTA while they are activating your phone. This happened to me on my release day OG Evo. Luckily a new root method was figured out fairly quickly and I was able to root a few days later.

Warranty and ROMs

Rooting the phone and flashing a custom ROM generally voids the warranty right? Is anyone worried about this? If we have an issue and flash back to stock before sending it in, will they know and deny warranty repair?

[Q] Does bootloader unlock void my warranty in Roumania?

Hi, can someone from Roumania, if there are any users here on xda from my country, tell me if my warranty will be void if i unlock the bootloader using htcdev, i bought my phone from Vodafone Roumania, and so my phone is simlocked, and i tryed asking a lot of people and i still have no complete answer, furthermore i got many oposed answers from all those i have asked, i asked 3 persons from vodafone and they sayd: "yes, it will definitely void your warranty", "no, if you unlock the bootloader using the official method given by htc it will not void your warranty" and "i have no ideea what a bootloader is" (lol?) and 2 friends of mine asked directly at htc roumania and one of them got the answer: "no, by unlocking the bootloader using the htcdev method your warranty will not be void, but rooting and installing a custom rom will, and also your warranty will be void if you damage your phone by overclocking or other things" and my other friend got the answer: "yes, your warranty will be void, because you are modifying the software on the phone" so as you can see i have no ideea what to belive and what to do, and i really want to unlock the bootloader but i just got the phone and i want to be sure it is in no way hardware damaged allready before voiding my warranty?
In the EU you have 2 years warranty.as long as you don't damage the device. All you sign away when unlocking your bootloader is you can't come nagging if you have software errors.
Bottom line is you still have warranty on your hardware. You might get into discussions with your vendor and in the worst case need a lawyer to get your warranty.

That is totally not true. The warranty forbids any kind of software or hardware modifications. So although the act of unlocking you bootloader does not void it. Rooting or flashing a custom rom does.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
no it does not infect your warranty in germany.
we can go back to stock if warranty or repair necessesary. so is not important
after return from repair center, all my phones are unlocked/relocked and replaced with stock rom.

Is there like some sort of secret to root this phone? And if not why isn't it posted all over the place. HTC Dev wont let me unlock so it's impossible for me to do anything.

Well there isnt anything indicating that you've found what you were looking for, I'm not quite sure what you mean by me being 10 years late and I do know for a fact that a little searching around the development forums you would have found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011243 at the top of the page just where I said... oh and all questions are supposed to be posted in the Q & A section...
you gotta unlock the bootloader first then flash a boot.img w/ system write enabled then flash a recovery then the modules and then the superuser.zip to get root access...

You're right beaups, let me break it down:
-From the CID.apk method, I got the "VZW_001" in abd fastboot oem readcid, which I heard is a no go.
-At HTCDev I got the error code #160 message (MID Not allowed) when I pasted the token ID (from start to end, excluding the word INFO) that I obtained from fastboot oem get_ identifier_token.
-RUU.exe stated not to be able to update my device to 1.15xxx from 2.4.605.2
I don't know what else to do. I cannot retire my Droid 4 just yet because of that. Your help would be very appreciated.

Ok. Has your phone already taken the update? (What software version are you on?). If its been ota'd, there is no unlock method for you currently. And based on what I've found so far, there may not be one any time soon.

As this is my first post I beg of you to take it a little easy on me. I am currently on the new OTA and have had the DNA for 5 days. I realize the lockdown on this phone is particularly harsh with this update so I am curious if I can return the phone to Verizon for a non-updated new one but I will need some type of ammo to go in there with to really get them to exchange it. The only problem I have had so far is that my financial pages for paying bills (Verizon included) and my expense reporting will not load. Perhaps this is a java error that the OTA may have caused and I am sure Verizon wants their money so that will be a way to win.
Are there any major issues with the current OTA I can add to my complaint list to get my hands on another one?
And yes, it is very rude to ask a dev if they are coming close to a solution but I am curious if it will be all for naught and the workaround is on the horizon or in the near future. I'm sure it's on many new owners' minds and they are scared to ask so let the noob bashing begin on me. I can take the abuse.
Knowing my luck I will come home from the store and blammo beaups and jcase have cracked it.
Update : Called Verizon, made claim, got a new in box sealed DNA, brought it home and went to work on it!
Proud owner now of a rooted, unlocked, s-off, rom and custom kernel running, new OTA radio, future updates from Verizon ota's blocked, bad boy of a DNA!
