Did anybody check for hidden LTE bands yet? - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Run a test (no risk involved here, as this is just the test, not the permanent unlock) e.g. on a T-mobile H901:
Enter 277634#*# on your num pad, then select Field Test, Modem Settings, LTE Band Selection and then check what happens if you press BAND 20 (success or fail?). If it is success, then there could be the possibility to unlock band 20 on a H901.
See the same subject on the G4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-enabling-lte-bands-t3137818

I'd bee keen to see if any of the released models supports B28 (one of the bands on 700mhz)

Doesn't the T-Mobile V10 already support band 20? It lists it in their specs.
What I'd be curious about is Band 17 for better AT&T compatibility on the H901. I will probably get mine tomorrow so I can test more.

Hey, can't find where to check LTE bands in that menu.

That menu does not exist on US variants (I can guarantee the T-Mobile variant, but probably goes for all of them, just like the G4). The T-Mobile variant in DFS will show up 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, and 20 as active bands. DFS can't write back to the phone for some reason, so you can't manually activate more bands, but with a SIM unlock and the other carrier's SIM it should auto-activate the other bands. In case someone wants a picture version:

I thought the hardware of the phone determined what bands are available. Is it really something that, if you could write back to the phone, could be turned on with the flip of a switch? Either way, that's still pretty interesting.

All the US variants share the same hardware. If we could write back, all bands the chipset supports would be active.

I am also interested, since I bought one and I am stuck on 3G, because the band 4 is which the most carriers in Alberta- Canada utilize. Any updates on that? Is it possible to enable hidden bands on H961N variant?

Menu does exist on H901. Use this code..
*#546368#*901#
However, i get success when i select Band 20 but getting no signal.
ATT model user, try *#546368#*900# to see you can get into that menu.

Same for me. No signal after LTE20 selection.

Great find for the menu. Unfortunately H901 does not support Band 8 (800Mhz). The only one that is missing for me.

What do you need it for? It didn't do anything except show what was active on the phone, you can't write to it from my testing. I don't have a copy of it anymore, but any version of it should work equally.

[Q] Which LTE Frequency band is my phone connected to

I've searched all around the web and I cant find a way to check what frequency band my phone is using
for Samsung phones just dial *#0011# and you can find that info, iPhones also have a way, but I haven't found a way to determine this in my Xperia Z2.
does anyone knows any way?
any app or something?
terminal command?
(4.4.2 Stock rom)
note: I want this because my carrier (Orange DO) is going to change their LTE band (and they're doing some test sometimes) and I want to know which band are they testing.

Sorry haven't been able to work with any Orange users to map out their LTE bands yet. If you get a phone that can access the *#0011* menu (or can grab a friends phone whose can) hit me up at [email protected] and I'll be able to bake support for Orange into the application.
I want to add support for all the Canadian and UK carriers but it's been hard to find volunteers in other countries to work with.

I don't know the exact UL/DL frequencies right now, but orange is using band 3 for LTE, and 900 for 3g / GSM / EDGE
the point is, they're on a process of migration from that LTE band, they're waiting (among other things I guess) for authorization to complete migration.
What I wanted to know is exactly which bands they're testing, because I've used a nexus 5 D820 (which lacks band 3) and often it gets connected to the LTE and a friends phone says it is still connected to band 3 (Galaxy S4 i9505 using *#0011#)
So there's no way other than *#0011# for Samsung Phones to get that Connection Data? not from data gathered
and..
actually I'm from Dominican Republic

According to wikipedia you are probably using band 3 frequency 1800mhz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Americas
P.S. Damn your country has so many different bands lol.
You're not undersanding, i dont want static information, i want dynamic information.
I have a Xperia Z2 which has band 3, but i also have a nexus 5 D820 (americas version) which does NOT have band 3 and both get connected to LTE why? Because Band 3 is not Orange LTE final band, its a temporal one, and they are testing other bands, i want to know which band is....

Id guess band 2

And i forgot to mention that a friend has a Galaxy S4 i9505 (LTE) which lacks of band 2 and band 4, and using *#0011# says its using band 3
So, basically orange is using 2 LTE bands, one is obviously and oficially band 3, but the other one (probably band 4 but i want to make SURE) is on testing.

Hi OP. Did you find the right solution to find the frequemcy your which your smartphone connected to? Im looking for the same. All android apps i tried never show what freq band my phone are connected to. But i found 1 in apple ios app and you need to jailbreak. Its like a field test. Im hoping to find 1 that works with android because my apple is so outdated and non lte.
Thanks

This works indeed
But on stock based ROM you can't write into system folder due to RIL protection.
So either you create a cwm flashable zip to install this app in recovery, or you use a custom kernel with deactivated RIL.

I unlocked more LTE bands on VS985

I unlocked some others LTE bands on VS985, I tried other tips from Sony Xperia forum with no success and now just with hiddenmenu it work, for that:
1. Download Shortcut Master (lite) from play store
2. Top right -> App Explorer ->Verizon Hidden Menu
3. go to -> LTEBandSelection tap and select Launch
4. Now choose all Bands and Save and reboot
Need ROOT
That's all
This sounds cool in theory, but I'm skeptical. Not every VZW LTE tower uses every band. Different locations may even require specific bands. I'm not sure of the implementation details but our modems negotiate connections with towers, and this includes which band and channel within the band to use. If you enable all bands all the time, you're making your phone scan more frequencies, which takes more time and therefore increases battery usage.

This thread/mod isn't getting much play it seems. Is there really any benefit from this in the US? Or will it drain battery looking for the other bands?

Very good question...!!
Here is a link to LTE bands by country/region if anyone needs/wants it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
It's wikipedia though, so it may not be 100% accurate.
Ok but what bands does this actually unlocked vs those already in us for a specific region...
I ask this b/c in my limited theory, one could unlock said bands and theoretically use the phone on diff bands/carriers without having to go thru the hassle of 'begging' for a carrier unlock, correct? Essentially you could create your own carrier unlocked and/or international compatible G3... But I may be completely ass backwards wrong.... lol

The vs985 is already carrier unlocked, but I get what you're asking. And I think that, yeah, if you know the bands in the country/region you're in you can unlock those bands to get 4g working there. Post #14 is a good example of that. I believe bands 3 and 7 are used for global lte, which would be why his/her carrier told him to use band 3 for lte in Pakistan.

LG V10 for use in Canada on Virgin / Bell Network

Hello, this phone was never released in Canada and I am thinking of purchasing one. Problem is I'm not sure what version will work to allow me to get lte signal. I am looking at a unlocked tmobile phone. Would anybody know what versions will work? Sorry for the question but I am not sure how to figure out the bands, and I don't want to purchase something that won't work properly. Thanks for the help!
you can use a T-mobile one just fine. However you must purchase it unlocked. DO NOT under any circumstances buy one that is not confirmed to already be unlocked. You will likely not be able to unlock it yourself. Many of us (myself included) have failed miserably to unlock this particular device.
Hello, thanks for your help! The search for a phone will continue the guy selling the phone doesn't want to ship to Canada. I did find a person selling international version. Just never seen a duel sim phone before so going to do some reading on it. Once again thanks!!!
I have the dual SIM version (h961n) and I'm on Virgin Mobile. Out of the box, it works with full 3G and limited LTE support (2600mhz - works only in Downtown Toronto). However, after rooting and following the LTE band enabling instructions, I was able to get all the LTE bands I need for the network (Band 2, Band 4, etc...). I hope this helps in your search for a phone
Thanks for the help! Going to continue looking for a tmobile or At&t so I hopefully can get full lte without doing any root. Thanks again for the help appreciate it!!!

Band Selection

I have V30+ (H932 /T-mobile version) I already get T-mobile Permanent Unlocked on my device.
Just realized that the bands availability for this device is not as many as Samsung Note 8 (T-Mobile version).
eg. no LTE band 8. The spec stated it has
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA B1/B2/B4/ B5;
LTE B2/B4/B5/B12/B46/B66/B71 (USA-Tmobile)
Roaming LTE B1/B3/B7/B20/B38/B39/B40/B41
I will use this phone in the country that need LTE band 8.
by reading this thread;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/increasing-data-speeds-t-mobile-t3703325
It seems , I have found a way to get into engineering mode to get into band selection option and turned on the band I need.
but I have a doubt if this phone will be working especially LTE band 8 in my destination country where I have to Travel. (there is no LTE band 8 on LG V30+ t-mobile)
Can some one confirm and test to by switching SIM card, (must be temporary /permanent unlock), let say turn on band 17 from ATT since default T-mobile version is not available,
The area where I live T mobile and ATT use LTE band 4 so it is hard for me test myself with ATT SIM card if band 17 is working after I turned on that band.
Thank you

LTE band 17 is a subset of LTE band 12. All new AT&T phones now only list band 12, because it includes 17.
A lot of AT&T customers missed this news apparently:
AT&T’s 700MHz Systems Now Interoperate With Band 12/17 LTE
January 11, 2017
https://www.androidheadlines.com/20...tems-now-interoperate-with-band-1217-lte.html
Here are the specs for the AT&T LG V30 H931 -- straight from both the LG and AT&T websites. DO YOU SEE BAND 17 listed on this AT&T phone?
No. Because LTE band 12 is listed -- therefore no need to list LTE band 17.
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-H931-Black-lg-v30
IF you go to the AT&T website to BUY an LG V30 H931 from them, here are the bands they show you are on the their own phone. Slightly different order from the LG.com website -- but still NO band 17. No need to show LTE band 17, since LTE band 12 is there!
https://www.att.com/cellphones/lg/v30.html#sku=sku8510583
The V300 I received from HK didn't have the B20 LTE band on the spec sheet.
But when i enabled it in the engineering menu, it worked perfectly with European networks.
There are some apps that give you the ability to record the bands number you encounter and log them.

This code does not work on the European H930 Model.. Is it just 277634#*# or something more?.
Update: Found the LTE band menu by using the *#54638#*930# code... I didn't have any checkboxes... Everything seems enabled to me... Separate menu is present to enable carrier aggregation around there..

There's also "hidden menu" apps you can download from Google Play store that will open those and other menus.

Thanks , good to know that Band 17 interoperate with 12 , but in frequencychek.com ATT still stated band 17 part of their band allocation, so in my case to test it on band 29 which T mobile V30 don't have.

The V300 I received from HK didn't have the B20 LTE band on the spec sheet.
But when i enabled it in the engineering menu, it worked perfectly with European networks.
There are some apps that give you the ability to record the bands number you encounter and log them.

Thanks , it might be good news for me then
So if someone concern about band coverage for LG V30 , purchase the T mobile version is the best choice and Unlocked the networks
because this device also cover band 71
iOR3K do you have band 71 listed on your V300 ?

Read my reply again. 17 is subset of 12. Even new AT&T phones no longer show "17", since they will now show 12. If you have 12, then you have 17. New AT&T phones will no longer show separate 17.
Even the AT&T LG V30 doesn't show 17. Why? Because 17 is already IN 12. (Like sugar is in cookies.)
But I'm repeating myself over and over. Just go read that post again.

There is no reason not to believe your point, as I already said "good to know"
I don't need to argue about it .
In technical point ATT band 17 is already covered by band 12 (T-mobile) which 700Mhz ( a )
for some people they just read band 17 is band 17 not band 12. and obviously they are thinking it is different with limitation of technical knowledge.
I just pointed out the frequencycheck.com
https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/at-t-united-states
I guessed ATT can't just stated they are using band 12 which they don't have (extended range LTE 700Mhz a)

AT&T now calls it band 12 on their phones moving forward.
Older phones will still show "17".
That site you keep giving link to is not an AT&T website and you have no idea when it was even last updated. I'm not even going to bother going to that site because I know I'm right. I really don't care what they say. They haven't kept up with current development.
It's why the AT&T LG V30 H931 on the AT&T website doesn't have LTE band 17 listed, but has LTE band 12 in the specs instead.
There are apps like LTE Discovery that will show you what bands you are on, and even keep a log as you travel around.

On my US998, here's the bands I am getting as I travelled to work yesterday morning. I was getting LTE bands 2 and 12. As expected it's now LTE band 12, not "17" -- because AT&T doesn't call it Band 17 anymore (except older phones will still show that). All new AT&T phones or new phones compatible with AT&T (like the US9998) will show LTE band 12.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/47blo3/eli5_band_12_vs_band_17/
Band 12 consists of the frequencies 698-716 and 728-746. This band is the only band that covers the 700a block that T-Mobile uses, and also happens to cover the b-block and lower-c-block that AT&T uses.
AT&T is upgrading its network so that it can handle Band 12 phones, since Band 17 is a subset of Band 12. This means that people will be able to use T-Mobile phones on the AT&T network.
Additionally, AT&T's phones will begin coming with Band 12, which means they can be used on the T-Mobile network.

Compatible US carriers?

Is there any available information on the US carriers that use this phone? I am unfortunately on sprint so I know that the chances are non-existent but I'm still curious on who will get this. In my short google searches, I see Verizon pop up quite a bit.
Will probably be a GSM only phone, too early to say though. If T-Mobile and Sprint merge your concern will no longer be necessary, but it's not clear whether that deal will go through soon.

The ASUS ROG is now live on the US site, the specs, including 2G/3G/4G/LTE/CDMA is also posted (pricing & availability are still MIA, release is stated for Q3 2018):

Sent from my HUAWEI BKL-L04 using XDA Labs
Ouch. No B66 nor B71 for T-Mobile. I think LTE-U is missing as there's no mention of 46/252/255.
FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 28, 29, 32)
I would gladly give you a kidney tomorrow for an Asus ROG Phone today.
Any further info heard on a North American release? Been all silent from what I can tell.

What does the U indicate in LTE-U? And, what type of channels have a B attached to them? According to T Mo, and ASUS channel listings there are channels 2, 4, 5 available. I ask because I am also a T mo customer, and I want to buy this phone very much...

They are referring to Band 66 and Band 71. Band 66 is a combined band of two of TMobile's bands. I think 2 and 4, to increase throughput. Band 71 is the new 600Mhz band that is being rolled out. This low frequency band will greatly increase building penetration and cover greater distances. Band 71 roll out is scheduled to be mostly completed within the next 2 years. So for those who keep their phones for more than one year, or who live in an area where it has already been rolled out, they will see no benefit from the expanded coverage. The phone does support 2, 4 and 12 which are the minimums for a TMobile customer.
Edit: I was wrong on band 66. It's an extension of band 4 used to increase download speeds only. You can see more about it here https://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php?gid=570
Sorry for not understanding all the band talk, will it be available for Verizon? Also, anyone think it'll be available through Verizon?

Big Red needs B2, B4, B13, BC0 and BC1 (CDMA).
The first 4 *are* present in the ROG. But, I'm not sure if VZ allows non-VZ phones to be used, or if the IMEI has to be whitelisted for their network.
Taiwan version works on AT&T network.

As long as you already have an active Verizon sim you should just pop it in and it will work. I have done this with non Verizon unlocked phones while having phones repaired.
You may have issues if were to go into store and try and set up a new account using it. This may depend on your store you go into as well. I have heard of some stores doing it with no problem, while others wont do it or have issues.
So I have Verizon sim. Data is working no problem but it won't make any calls. Says mobile network unavailable.

This could be caused by multiple different things.
1. It could be caused by an app that supports calling (ex. skype, tango or similar) being set as the default calling program.
2. Needing to switch network type in network setting to force it to acquire the needed network info.
3.The phones APN might need changed.
4. If the phone is dual sim try the other slot.
@Mdaly001 Which model do you have? Which region did it come from?
It's the international model. Shipped from Taiwan. From what I can tell there is no difference from international and usa model.
So in apn settings but won't let me edit existing nor add a new one. The only thing I can change is the apn name. Can't change mmsc settings or anything else. This super frustrating

From Tech spec page on Asus website, the phone has 2 versions (A and B). Only version B has CDMA (Band BC0). Asus US store listing doesn't spell out which version is sold in US. But it listed CDMA 2000 (only exists in version B). However, it also states "This device is not compatible with CDMA Networks such as: Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular." So I still don't know if the US version will "work" on Verizon. It's certainly not certified for Verizon.
For Taiwan version of the phone, can you enable VoLTE on your Verizon account and phone?
