I like and enjoy my tablet. Some months after I bought it, it developed a yellowish edge on the screen. I sought to have the tablet repaired only to find that Sony have declined to repair the tablet because they say that the yellowish edge could have only been caused by external pressure on the screen. There is absolutely no indication of this. There is absolutely no damage to the screen. I think it is a cop out and would be interested to hear if others have had this problem.
I had it like 4 months ago. There were yellow smudges on the edges around the screen. I took my tablet to the place I've bought it and it was covered by warranty.
I think there were some other guys facing the same issue, more or less all of them covered by warranty....use search to find posts by them.
I also have it since a few months. Most probably caused by pressure while transporting the tablet in my rucksack. Since it's in the corners, it doesn't bother me so much - otherwise the tablet works perfectly.
i had the same problem a year ago after 7 month of ownership. I sent it back to Sony and they replaced the screen.
I also have some yellowish tint on with the new screen for some time now. I've been considering sending it back again since I have an extended warranty.
They did not make any difficulties accepting it back the 1rst time (in France)
Same problem for me after 10 mounth, and it seem that even a small pressure on the screen make the digitizer touch the lcd.
I'm thinking about send it to the SAV, but my bootloader is unlocked, the system is rooted and i don't think the firmware i flashed come from the country were i bought it (france too), so, i'm afraid they won't agree to cover my problem with warranty :-\.
Do you think they can see if i restore everything to stock and lock?
If you made a backup of the DRM files (which get deleted by unlocking the device) before unlocking, chances are you can restore everything back to stock, yes. If you didn't, they'll recognize it.
Thank you for your answer . I did not . I didn't care because usually i don't need the warranty, except this time... Do you know if the drm are linked to the serial number of the tablet or only to the model?
You have NO chance of restoring the DRM files, period.

My tablet was rooted and unlocked from day one. I did not backup the DRM keys. But it got accepted for servicing. anyway I simply removed root and relocked the boot loader before sending it back . They don't seem to be too difficult.
PS: I'm also in France.

Unfortunately for me, my screen is now broken (caused by a lot of bad luck...), so no warranty anymore.
But thank you anyway for this information, i think it could be useful for other people in the same case with the DRM keys.

Hi guys!
I thought i'd share my experience with you you see if this has happened to anyone else!
I bought a nearly new Xperia S off ebay for £200 It was in good condition but came without the smart tags and headphones so if anyone has got spares they'd like to donate PM me please lol
Anyway the phone was 3UK locked and branded so I flashed generic UK firmware abd unlocked it and started using it. After a short while I got the usual urge to stsrt modifying it (as i've done with half a dozen previous HTC's) so looked into flashing a modified ROM. I quickly discovered that the bootloader needed to be unlocked si I did the check on my handset only to find it was not possible on my unit, gutted!
A few weeks usage rolled past when the phone ran out of battery while using google nav on a journey, I plugged the phone in when I got home but the phone would not charge, I tried 3 different USB leads and 2 othewr mains adaptors but it never showed any signs of life from that point on.
I sent the phone away for warranty repair which took about 2 weeks and when it finally came back it worked fine (new battery and a flex replaced). The phone had also had a software flash and when I checked in the service menu it now reads "Bootloader Unlockable:Yes"!!! Now i'm torn between modifying my phone and keaving the warranty intact lol!!
Just wondered if anyone else had come across anything like this...

Check sony's unlocking website and read carefuly:
As far as I understand from reading it, unlocking your bootloader won't "automatically" void your warranty unless the hypothetical damage is caused by hacking misuse (exteme overheat due to ridiculous overclocking, etc).
If it can't be attributed to software flashing then it's still supposed to be covered (as far as I understand, better go read it yourself).

Yea, you read it correct.
Most people just scroll through it assuming the warranty is voided upon unlocking your bootloader. It just says "may", which leaves them not liable if you break your device via the reasons you mentioned above.
In the past, various Sony (Ericsson then) devices have been sent in with unlocked bootloaders for various issues, and I'm pretty sure people have sent in their S devices as well (yellow tint, broken ports, bad batterys).
So pretty much...unlock responsibly!
Ps: If you are unlocking your bootloader for just root and such, when ICS is out there will probably be a non-unlocking root at some point, just incase you don't want to fully modify your device.
Send my Xperia S in at the end of June for the yellow tints problem. Waited two weeks and Sony replied that they wouldn't repair the phone because of "illegal unlock"?? The phone is factory unlocked. Tried to discuss this issue on http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/34135, and 1 day later my account with sonymobile was suspended. Just feel so disappointed with Sony's customer service.
Wow.
What was your user name over there?
Have you unlocked your bootloader or sent it in rooted or something like that?
If that's the case, it's normal that they didn't touch it as you lost your warranty if you unlocked your bootloader. If you rooted it, you should have restored it before sending, because technically, rooting voids your warrantytoo.
Maybe you bought it used and the previous owner unlocked the bootloader and didn't tell you?
ditto (well i unlocked the bootloader, with a code provided by SONY, which is hardly illegal, but I guess they're really playing the voided warranty issue on this)

Had got the same problem with yellow tints, but my phone wasn't unlocked and has been repaired by Sony in two weeks.
If you had unlocked your phone even with the Sony method it's indicate that warranty is avoid in this case.
Interesting...with an unlocked bootloader it still shouldn't have been an issue. Your warranty is in theory still intact, just with CPU modifications and such afterwords that can void it (overclocking and such with custom kernels). In the terms it just says "may" so they avoid liability if you break it yourself. It appears in this case (and the other one posted above) they decided to throw that out the window and just say "meh, sorry, today, because it's cold and didn't sleep well, its your fault."
You didn't by any chance have Doom's kernel on when you sent it in?
It's almost like every center changes their interpretation of a voided warranty depending on the weather or if they just feel like it .
I wouldn't associate your account being blocked as Sony's fault though, as you picked a username that appears to be picked by bashing your head on the keyboard . It was probably what they thought was a spam account?
If you formatted the device then reflashed it with a stock GB firmware would anyone be able to tell that it had been unlocked ever?

Sony really need to sort themselves out, been going backwards and forwards for weeks. Latest issue is they are now claiming I purchased my phone in another country, it was supplied by my carrier.
Been a Sony fan since x10, but they are getting worse with cs. The phones are better, but they really need to train their staff.
My phone is not foreign, how the hell would they know in the first place? They've never seen the phone and I have never been asked for an imei number.
This is a joke now.

We over in the HTC forums have the same prob, unlock the bootloader then you lose all warranty on your phone. We have faulty WiFi antenna on the One X, the contacts don't connect the antenna correctly, HTC say that if you unlocked your bootloader you can't get the antenna fixed, no one can say how unlocking a bootloader and WiFi antenna can be connected in any way, but HTC are being dogs about it. As for the yellow tints, they are a common problem across the bord, it's only the glue sticking the screen and the glass, play some games, give your phone a good use to heat it up and you will find that, the yellow tints go after a week or so
It's odd to see that it seems all/most mobile manufactures some what lack customer service.

haha, that's interesting. I got that username because they said my normally used one has been taken. I've never done any CPU overclocking/mod, or never had any customer kernel installed. I don't know their "illegal unlock" means network unlock or software unlock. The phone was sent back to the repair centre with original GB software.
Here is the feedback from Sony UK's repair center, if this can help. I can guarantee the phone is working properly with photo evidence. I don't know why see put Display broken rather than "yellow tints".etc. Now the phone sounds totally dead at the Sony repair center.
Perhaps they tested it for so long it's run out of battery!
I'd be complaining like hell right now to Sony Customer Services!!

Heya all,
Few weeks ago, my Samsung Galaxy S Plus screen stopped to work. It was rooted and had CM10 on and they didnt accept the warranty, but if phone didnt break down because of custom room but of hardware issues, shouldn't the warranty be accepted?? I mean, they rom was working great for me for like 2 weeks, they screen just stopped working even the system, vibration, sound and touch screen worked. They didnt accept the warranty of the phone because of rooted phone. The bastard at service shop put completely new screen in front of me and showed me the cm10 bootscreen even him and me both know the malfunction of screen wasnt affected by rooted phone but of bad hardware and said he cant repair it for free and I should pay like 100€ euros for new screen. I didnt take it, I told him to tell his supervisor to contact me. I read warranty and it didnt say anything about rooting phone, but it was saying about installing 3rd party programs, but if you consider that, any app installed from market is 3rd party program, so that should void your warranty too. Also, android is open-source and main thing about open-source is customization, of course
Anyways, if I don't pull it off, can I get my phone back, unroot it and give it back to them to repair it expecting they will accept warranty this time?

Well, everything works except it displays picture. System functions just normally. I would be able to unroot it even with not working screen cuz I know in my head what stand everywhere and I can manage to unroot it.

If you can unroot and you are still using Stock ROM, just send it for warranty , use someone else to do the job .
So I'm sending in my phone already to get the screen fixed, which broke by some weird accident. But I have unlocked, rooted and all that jazz. I know HTC is going to wipe my phone when they get it, but do you think I'd have any issue because I have modified the recovery? I restored back to the stock rom with nothing installed except SuperSU. I could understand if I had a problem with the hardware in the phone itself, but they should have no reason not to fix my broken screen which has nothing to do with firmware or unlocking. I've already reset the phone myself which has no personal information. I haven't even set up my google account on it.
I think reports have been mixed on whether HTC honors the screen replacement warranty on modded phones (bootloader unlocked, etc). Return the device to as close to stock as possible, and hope for the best is probably all you can do.
One person on here has mentioned that while the "regular" device warranty mentions that modding the phone may void the warranty; the "add-on" screen replacement warranty does not make any mention of this. So that may be an point of argument in your favor.
I will HOPE as hard as I can. Might have to shell out $200 at the local repair shop. It would bother me though if it was rejected and all I want fixed is the screen, they have no buisness messing with my phone other than testing to make sure the screen works.
HTC will fix the screen either way, the warranty question just determines whether they charge you or not. I think the charge is $250 if the warranty is not honored. So not much more than your local shop is going to charge. Plus, I think taking the phone apart is tricky, so I'd probably trust HTC to do it more than a local vendor. I've seen some real hack jobs on the One X (which is polycarbonate not metal, but similarly difficult to disassemble) by random repair shops. Although of course the quality of workmanship by repair shops will vary, and I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there.
HTC is refusing to replace my screen even though I flashed the stock ATT RUU back on the device. They claim that they can't test the Screen panel after it's been replaced because "security is off" on the device. I called them out on it and they have been going back and forth with the engineering department and repairs and still claim that because the security is off they can't replace the screen because they can't test it. But if I pay $290 they'll replace the main board as well. I even had to agree to try a partial repair and still no.
isn't the diagnostic tool a dialer pad code they enter?
I been on hold for 45minutes now waiting to talk to someone...

any update on what happened bro?
i heard that if you tell them the screen was cracked due to physical damage and clearly no software installed on the phone had any impact on the screen cracking they would fix it... im currently on a fuzz not sure what to do, i cracked my screen earlier today =(
Just a word of advice and I know everyone is different but I always wait until my devices are out of warranty before I do any modding. That's just me because I don't have the time to deal with the stuff you're going through. Anyway this is the first devise that I’ve not wanted to start modding right after I got it. Yes, it’s that good IMO.
Good luck I hope you get it resolved without too much expense.

still refused to fix it, they refused to give me a credible answer just that because security was disabled from the device they couldn't do it.
I would say make sure you enable S-Off and are back to an offical Rom, that might improve your chances of getting it partially repaired.
I flat out told them, I didn't like their lack of transparency and would be putting the phone on craigslist and buying any other device that wasn't HTC.
a bit petty but made me feel better.
Just to chime in here and share my experience. My display became messed up either through being damaged internally, or having the data cable come loose, etc. No cracks or any visible external damage at all. Anyway, phone was unlocked, rooted, running a custom ROM, and S-Off. Since the phone was less than six months old I shipped it back to HTC for replacement under warranty. Before I shipped the original I returned it to stock via RUU and re-locked the bootloader, but left it S-Off. HTC has just shipped me back a replacement without any hassle at all. Total cost to me was $19 for expedited shipping. I should point out that other than the ugly display my phone was functional - touch screen and all. But it does seem from my experience that HTC will still honor the warranty on modified devices if the failure is clearly hardware related, as mine was. BTW, I unlocked through HTC, so they could have checked if they wanted to.
I might try resetting security and sending it back again. I did a rather half added job last time. I was worried about the replacement option because that might have generated a charge to my credit card. Did you have to put a credit card on hold?

So, I received my phone back yesterday, and couldn't help but notice a huge crack going from top to bottom of the phone. This crack wasn't there before , Originally the screen had been badly scratched. I tried to open a ticket again to replace, and they say that due to "negligent use" (Bootloader unlocked/Security OFF) my phone is now fully out of warranty. I told them this is ridiculous, I'm not asking for a new phone; I just want my screen repaired under HTC Advantage, and need this escalated. Hoping to get a call from a manager today. I'm very unhappy with HTC.
This seems like a magnuson moss act violation. Thoughts?

I did not have to put a credit card on hold because I shipped them my device first and have just done without for a week or so. I think you only have to make a credit card deposit if they ship you a device first.

More discussion about the screen warranty here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2767547&page=14
Of particular interest is Post #139, which says the HTC rep claims S-off prevents access to the video calibration tool (sounds kinda made-up to me). Then later in Post #146, HTC appears to backpedal a bit, and offer the free replacement if the customer agrees to take "full responsibility" if there are issues with the motherboard later.
Thought I was going to have to use HTC Advantage today when I dropped my phone on my hardwood floor. It landed perfect on the screen and made an awful smacking sound. I just sat there in disbelief scared to pick it up. When I did everything was A-OK.
Hope you get this straighten out. Good luck.

Same happened to me. My spigen glass gone...what's ironic is that they left the skin protector I have over the back camera ring on. And supposedly they did a new camera. I know the back camera ring has nothing to do with the lens...but just ironic. Not gonna buy another protector. My luck I'd she'll out the money for a protector and then get the bootloop issue And have to send in again. And we all know it's not easy to take off a glass protector and keep it dust free for a week...

LG reserves the right to send a different phone when you send one for repair. I just sent my v10 to LG for repair of the "reboot lg screen issue". Support told me at the time that they sent me the shipping label that I may not get the same phone back.
Just received mine back after sending it in for bootloop issue, and I received my same phone back. They claim to have replaced the main board but my imei is still the same.

Got mine back a few weeks ago. They took off my spigen glass screen protoector while in repair. (nothing was wrong with screen). Haven't had time to get a new one. My daughter dropped my phone last night on the floor. Cracked the glass in numerous places. The irony. Now not sure what to do. Thinking of buying a screen assembly and replacing, but don't really want to throw an additional $120 into this phone. My luck I'd get the bootloop right after I did that. Think it's time I cut my losses.

so i just sent my v10 in for bootloop problem. i had unlocked BL + modified stock rom. every time it would get stuck at "the device software can not be checked for corruption" and since i could not restore it. i just locked the BL which gave me the red text on the upper left say "boot verified failed" pic (http://www.reviversoft.com/uploads/...63109092/b1130b8eb4c87e284b85c8e225e3e963.jpg) so we will see what happens but i am 2 months past warranty period i bought it in 12/2015 and they have a 1 year warranty. hopefully they will just fix it and send me it back but i am expecting a phone call or email tell me that i would have to pay for the device to get it fixed. but so far no trouble.
i would not recommend doing what i did
