Warranty Question - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Mailed my phone into LG because it was developing the bootloop issue. They replaced my GPS board. Received my phone and they took off my tempered glass screen protector. Were they allowed to do that?

Yes the were allowed to do that. They tell you to remove any accessories before sending the phone.

Same happened to me. My spigen glass gone...what's ironic is that they left the skin protector I have over the back camera ring on. And supposedly they did a new camera. I know the back camera ring has nothing to do with the lens...but just ironic. Not gonna buy another protector. My luck I'd she'll out the money for a protector and then get the bootloop issue And have to send in again. And we all know it's not easy to take off a glass protector and keep it dust free for a week...

LG reserves the right to send a different phone when you send one for repair. I just sent my v10 to LG for repair of the "reboot lg screen issue". Support told me at the time that they sent me the shipping label that I may not get the same phone back.

Just received mine back after sending it in for bootloop issue, and I received my same phone back. They claim to have replaced the main board but my imei is still the same.

Can you try the freezer or oven trick then try to flash the stock KDZ? Might keep the phone out of bootloop long enough to return to stock.

I just got mine back a few days ago and my IMEI is the same...my device had heating issues before the bootloop of death, now it works fine with no heating issues at all. I believe they changed the main board and retained the IMEI somehow

Got mine back a few weeks ago. They took off my spigen glass screen protoector while in repair. (nothing was wrong with screen). Haven't had time to get a new one. My daughter dropped my phone last night on the floor. Cracked the glass in numerous places. The irony. Now not sure what to do. Thinking of buying a screen assembly and replacing, but don't really want to throw an additional $120 into this phone. My luck I'd get the bootloop right after I did that. Think it's time I cut my losses.

so i just sent my v10 in for bootloop problem. i had unlocked BL + modified stock rom. every time it would get stuck at "the device software can not be checked for corruption" and since i could not restore it. i just locked the BL which gave me the red text on the upper left say "boot verified failed" pic (http://www.reviversoft.com/uploads/...63109092/b1130b8eb4c87e284b85c8e225e3e963.jpg) so we will see what happens but i am 2 months past warranty period i bought it in 12/2015 and they have a 1 year warranty. hopefully they will just fix it and send me it back but i am expecting a phone call or email tell me that i would have to pay for the device to get it fixed. but so far no trouble.
i would not recommend doing what i did

[Q] Repair charges from Samsung for Bricked Phones ?

Hey Guys,
I recently Bricked my Unlocked Samsung Vibrant phone while uploading a Custom ROM. The phone is now such that it wouldn't show anything on the screen.
The recovery mode was not available but the Download mode sure was. But to flash a Stock ROM through Odin it should go into the Download mode at least, but that ain't happening at all, because there is nothing showing up on the screen and neither is the keypad lighting up.
I have tried numerous methods of booting up but none of them work as Nothing Shows up on the screen. Also when I insert the battery inside the Phone Heats Up (Not the Battery) like it would while one was using it.
I figured out, from the forum, that the problem must be of a corrupted bootloader and that the USB will not detect anything as it has no support from the bootloader.
I stay in India and my phone is past the 30 Day Replacement phase. I gave this phone to the Samsung Service Centre in my country and they said that, No Support is available for Vibrant here and the only way to make this phone work is to install a new Galaxy S I9000 Motherboard instead of Vibrant's one for around 300$.
I can send my phone to the US, but the question I want to ask is,
1) Since my phone is Rooted and I tried to Flash a Custom ROM onto it, it is well out of the Warranty. Will Samsung Notice this and charge me out of the Warranty for repairing ?
2) What is the Charges that I will incur from Samsung for Unbricking my Rooted Phone and what will there procedure involve ?
3) A guy in my town has a Riff Box JTag and he says that he might be able to boot my phone for a mere 20$. I will be voiding my Warranty if I hand over the Phone to him. What are the skill levels required for Booting through Jtag apart from the very skill of Precise Soldering ? Should I hand over my phone to him for a cheaper alternative for Unbricking than sending it over to US getting charged by Samsung and paying for the phone to be shipped back ?
Thank You for any Help and Hope you provide.
Any Help is appreciated guys.

Samsung has a live tech support chat
you can ask your question directly http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T959ZKATMB?
On the other hand, you can score a second hand Vibrant for less than $300 here in the States, I am not sure about market in India.
they wont charge anything.
I've hard bricked my phone to where nothing would turn on. sent it in, and got a replacement (with the new GPS antenna LOL) and only had to pay for the expedited shipping.

if you were to see the contents I had on my internal SD, yeah....I'd be in debt. LOL.
custom kernels built by me, kangklick, JAC, Eugene
Roms built by TW, and Eugene, CM6 built by me...
They will most likely see that it wont turn on with a new battery, check the water damage sticker, and then take out the good parts, reuse, and dis-guard the rest.
Did you really tried getting into Download mode right?
take battery off, press vol + And - at the same time (do not touch power)
insert the battery.
if it does not come up, let the volume keys go and do it again.......
10$ shipping in 7 days 30$ for 2 days
Hi guys, I bricked my phone...phone does not enter the download mode or th recovery. The phone will enter the batt screen (the one that comes on when you charge your phone when it is off) and turn off (looping). I had totally modded it and am getting my replacement. When I send in my phone:
1) will they figure out I rooted?
2) Charge me for the replacement that they sent in?
Thanks in advance...

From what I have read over the forums, if they send you a replacement and if they come to learn after that you have fiddled with the software, they charge you for the replacement too, i.e., the whole 600$ even when you have given them your old phone. So you just have to thank your stars, if they don't.
I would suggest you inquire in advance everything about the replacement procedure from Bell.

Touch screen not working at all,new user

Hi to all!
Today i got my motorola atrix ordered on ebay (refurbished by seller), so this is my first post... I turned on my phone and touch screen is not working at all :crying: ... this is really bad, i dont know what to do, please help me....
Return the phone and ask for refund. Open a dispute if necessary. That's what I would do.
Or, you can buy a new digitizer and try fixing it yourself. I would not recommend it.
That s really bad news... If I return the phone I will lose 2x shiping money (2x30$) and money that I payed customs (35$) I m not fault for that all after all.... Could it be software problem that could it be fixed before returning the phone? If they changed the touch and flash it probably... The phone is at&t unlocked...
I think you might get the first shipping reimbursed, but I'm not sure.
It seems very unlikely this is a software thing, but feel free to try another ROM. Not much to lose at this point, right?
Just return it if you mess around with ROMs the seller might use it to say you tampered with software, safest bet is to return
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
I flashed stock rom, but nothing happened... I think it s hardver failure, probably touch...
How about pdsfix? Could this help?
Seller probably replaced digitizer and it went bad.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 2
I decided to return it, they will send me another one... I think that is a best solution of this problem...
Try to work out so that they pay for shipping this time, since it was not your fault the device is malfunctioning.
While we are on the topic of replaced digitizers. Are the replaced ones also made out of Gorilla glass? Was wondering if there's a way of testing if it is Gorilla glass without damaging the screen. Any ideas how?

Screen is dead. Best way to get replacement/warranty info?

My LCD screen went dead, seems like there have been a few reports of "black screen of death."
I purchased it from a verizon store less than 90 days ago. Whats my best bet on getting a replacement? I did not do the warranty program...
Should be under warranty for a year shouldn't it. Take it back to the store.
I chatted with samsung who said to send it in for repairs and if its determined its my fault they will charge me. I feel like verizon will just do the same?
If the screen was damaged by water can I buy a phone with a cracked screen and put my glass in it?

There's a water detection sticker under the battery. If it isn't pink, there shouldn't be a problem getting it exchanged at a Verizon store. As long as there is no physical damage (cracked or broken screen) it should be a slam dunk. I would think Samsung would scrutinize the phone more closely and be much slower getting you a replacement.

Glad to hear you will be back in business with a new phone.
It's unfortunate though, if you were on MDK root + recovery and won't have that, but a phone is the most important thing so that's awesome.

Yellowish edge on screen

I like and enjoy my tablet. Some months after I bought it, it developed a yellowish edge on the screen. I sought to have the tablet repaired only to find that Sony have declined to repair the tablet because they say that the yellowish edge could have only been caused by external pressure on the screen. There is absolutely no indication of this. There is absolutely no damage to the screen. I think it is a cop out and would be interested to hear if others have had this problem.
I had it like 4 months ago. There were yellow smudges on the edges around the screen. I took my tablet to the place I've bought it and it was covered by warranty.
I think there were some other guys facing the same issue, more or less all of them covered by warranty....use search to find posts by them.
I also have it since a few months. Most probably caused by pressure while transporting the tablet in my rucksack. Since it's in the corners, it doesn't bother me so much - otherwise the tablet works perfectly.
i had the same problem a year ago after 7 month of ownership. I sent it back to Sony and they replaced the screen.
I also have some yellowish tint on with the new screen for some time now. I've been considering sending it back again since I have an extended warranty.
They did not make any difficulties accepting it back the 1rst time (in France)
Same problem for me after 10 mounth, and it seem that even a small pressure on the screen make the digitizer touch the lcd.
I'm thinking about send it to the SAV, but my bootloader is unlocked, the system is rooted and i don't think the firmware i flashed come from the country were i bought it (france too), so, i'm afraid they won't agree to cover my problem with warranty :-\.
Do you think they can see if i restore everything to stock and lock?
If you made a backup of the DRM files (which get deleted by unlocking the device) before unlocking, chances are you can restore everything back to stock, yes. If you didn't, they'll recognize it.
Thank you for your answer . I did not . I didn't care because usually i don't need the warranty, except this time... Do you know if the drm are linked to the serial number of the tablet or only to the model?
You have NO chance of restoring the DRM files, period.

My tablet was rooted and unlocked from day one. I did not backup the DRM keys. But it got accepted for servicing. anyway I simply removed root and relocked the boot loader before sending it back . They don't seem to be too difficult.
PS: I'm also in France.

Unfortunately for me, my screen is now broken (caused by a lot of bad luck...), so no warranty anymore.
But thank you anyway for this information, i think it could be useful for other people in the same case with the DRM keys.

LG V10 Hardbricked after Nougat Update

I received the update through Nougat via LG bride. It was working well for about an hour and a half. Then it shut off. Went into the LG Bootup screen and never turned on again. Can't access recovery. Can't do anything. Basically a paperweight now. IDK what to do. I know the LG V10 has been known for boot loop and bricking issues, but it especially saddening when your phone isn't even covered under warranty anymore, don't have the money for a new flagship, and literally getting nougat after months of waiting because of stupid LG. Any suggestions on what I should do? Anything would be appreciated. :crying:

seems your update was successful, were you doing lots of heavy usage before it died? put in the freezer for 15-20 min to check if it is indeed hardware failure.if it boots and works for a while, then its hardware failure. This is just what i recommend trying, since it seems you haven't been tampering with anything and it suddenly shut off. do it at your own risk though.if it is hardware, call lg and tell them.i dont know i they will still honor it now but my device bootlooped and was 5 months over warranty period but they still said they would fix it for free.
I think they are fixing now for 2 years. Can't hurt to give it a shot.

So I used their website to request a repair and they gave me a shipping label with instructions. Does that mean it's free of charge? If not when do they tell me the price and when to pay them.

You may have to pay to ship it to them, if it wasn't a free shipping label. That is what they do when the device is technically out of warranty. If there is any other charge they will email you before any work is done, and you provide some sort of payment. Then they ship it back.
Since this is a heavily covered issue, they will probably replace the main board the day they get it and send it the same day back to you free of charge. That is what I've seen in multiple threads for the V10.
I kind of wish my V10 would bootloop so I could get LG to replace my board....I feel mine is a ticking time bomb waiting to happen.

So they will for sure do it free of charge? Because i got emailed with the shipping label and instructions, but no word back yet on my comment I made on the LG website and if they will charge me or not. Should they notify me that I will be getting charged before I send the device in? Or should I call customer service and make sure that they don't charge me.
LG fixed my V10 AND my G4 free of charge after both units bootlooped. They'll let you know via email.
They will fix it and send it back to you free of charge. My V10 was out of warranty too and they still fixed it... Does not matter when you bought it, they will cover it. My phone died 2 weeks ago sent it immediately. Takes 2 weeks for them to swap out the motherboard and send it back. They have a fedex customer signature required obligation which delayed my shipment by 2 days since i was at work... I am still waiting for the Nougat update though.
Not the case, while most of the time it is free and they will let you know upfront. Some people have recieved their repaired devices along with the service fee bill.

I at least had the use of my phone 4 a while before and acted up after that update 2 h901 30 C but I honestly never did really like nougat but as long as it was working I was okay. All of a sudden my phone restarted itself while I had it sitting on the charger and never booted all the way back up! When I try to do a factory reset that doesn't work it just stays on that screen and then before I even tried to do the factory reset this green screen came up that look like some type of system screen with real tiny black writing that I could barely see. But it's been a nightmare ever since and like you said not being under warranty is a real drag! I don't know why these idiots make these updates that they try to keep Developers from rooting and being able to make changes to in the first place! People should be able to do whatever they want to do with their phones and devices! I was able to flash the h 90130 c k deezy through LG up program but after about an hour if that the phone acts up again. So yes I truly truly feel your pain! So I'm looking for some help as well.

I no this is an Old Post but I'm just reading it because I just started having some of the problems listed above out the blue. I actually do not like the nougat update! It made a few things that were once easy more complicated and took more time and it clicks to get to where I wanted to be for simple stuff like changing the display off timer and having to pull down a second screen to get the stuff. Also now my phone has acted up since that h901 30 C update. So I'm beyond pissed all the way around.
