Just got the wallet case, and I'd like the display to go off when I close the lid and turn on when opening the lid. There's magnet holding the lid shut. Any ideas? Tried looking into prefs, but nothing...
Doh, iZound, not Zedge.

Try the gravity screen app. It will turn off and on the screen via proximity sensor and has other options to play around with. Works on stock and AOSP.

As the title says. This is the only thing I dislike about this phone. Other than that it is perfect. Anyone know how to make it recognize my face better while on the phone? It's always pressing keys and its a pain for people on the line.
Make sure your face covers the proximity sensor or buy the flap for it that they show in the commercials. You can talk with the screen covered.
I've made it so I almost never actually touch the screen with my skin because of that nice little cover. My screen is pretty and clean still.

i use the s3 case from samsung that covers the screen whist talking. its nice
Hit power button before putting up... Won't disconnect the call and no face pressing.

Are you using a case? I've never had this issue with a naked Note2.
At first I did because I held it at a weird angle. Honestly it's probably just the way it's being held.

Thank you..
Everyone else I had the flip case and it was a pain to keep flipping the cover when I wanted to do something. I switched to a rubber thingy to protect it from falls.
Is there anyone else experienced like this issue ??
My genuine S-View cover sometimes not detect cover open, i try two or three times again, finally it works...
So, am i have faulty one or is it normal ??
Same as well.
I have zero issue with my s view case

I returned my s-view to T-Mobile today and got a Tech21. The s-view features were neat but the case would not stay closed causing my Note to wake. I also felt it offered little real protection if it dropped and the lid flopped open it would be like having no case @ all. (imagine it skidding down the driveway with the s-view opening and closing)

Just got my S view case today and I am really liking it. There is nothing keeping the flap down, but I think in a drop it will be decently protected.
Also I thought it would be much more bulkier than it is. Folded back you can hardly tell it's there, other than the edges cutting your fingers
I got mine yesterday and I noticed that I on the right edge (where the stitches are) I had to run my finger across it.
It help the cover stay closed.
I feel that the S-view case needs to have more viewing options. It is very limited to accessing the camera, action memo, and music player. I also don;t like that we can only view incoming calls and text. There should be more options for other apps or at least access notification panel.

I agree, it even displays less icons in the notification bar through the window. Almost a step back from that perspective.
This may be a stupid one but it'll help me out. With the s-pen detection is there really a proximity sensor or does it just know the s-pen is not inserted?
I've misplaced my s-pen and occasionally my phone with notify me that I need to re-insert the pen. Does that mean the pen is close? I had it when I was in the car... Didn't have it when I walked in the house from the car. It's either in the car or in the bottom of My tattered bag but haven't found it yet. [emoji36]

I believe there is a sensor in the pen letting you know the pen is too far. When does it go off?

Actually, from my experimentation, it is more of a movement sensor...
The phone knows when the pen is out, and, if the user is walking, and the pen hasn't been used, it sounds an alarm. The proximity sensor for the pen is only a couple inches...
You can test this by pulling the pen, and placing it in a pocket. Walk around in a circle, with the phone in your hand. Mine sounds the alarm, I would imagine yours would as well...

My s-pen would not stop docking and re-docking at the slights movement of the phone. I even bought a new pen. I took it apart and superglued thin strip of plastic to the switch lever to make it thicker. It works perfect now.
I always put my x1 in a bag with case which cover has no magnetic snapon; so the cover always open and close by itself inside my bag. That will automatically wake up my x1 several times in my bag.
How can I disable the auto wakeup?
Simply turn off "display cover" mode.
Settings / display /
Thanks.
Mine don't have the Display Cover mode, but have only Window Cover mode which I believe it is what you mean.
I already made it off. It is just for not displaying the mini display through a front cover having a small window. My X1 display still auto on and off when opening and closing the cover.

Sorry, you are right.
Can't find the place where to deactivate the proximity sensor.

Hi, here how i did it, you will find a magnetic on the right of earpiece on the cover, it trigger the screen, just cut it out
Thanks. That's a bit extreme for me.
Will put it in a rather tight pouch before putting it in my bag.

How does "auto on" work when I open my cover?
I have some cover here but when I open it S3 doesn't wake up.
Not everyone cover does function but what does it depend on?
There has to be a magnet embedded in the cover in a certain spot.

I have the original tab s3 keyboard cover and it doesn't wake the tablet as well.

I've tried 3 aftermarket covers and they all wake the tablet when I open it. Unfortunately I did not get the keyboard cover. (Too expensive here in the US)

I have this on from amazon:

There is also a small magnet in the front cover but how shoul it work.? Maybe some bug in samsung software?
I think the ambient light sensor manages the auto on function.

I'm pretty sure it's the magnet. It works in the total darkness for me, and manually covering/uncovering the ambient light sensor does not wake the tablet.

There is a sensor in the top left corner of the tablet (when in portrait mode). You can try it using a small magnet.
Sent from my SM-T825 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Now I found in each corner magnets.
But using a small magnet even with two pieces on both sides simultaneously tablet still wont wake up...
But something I must do wrong: my old Galaxy Tab S works without problems but for testing I can not bring it with my magnets for wake up...
Try a different cover/case. It must be a "smart" cover made specificaly for the Tab S3. If it is not a "smart" cover, the automatic screen on/off function will not work. Also, Samsung's keyboard cover/case does not include the neccessary magnet so you have to use the power button; their regular (non-keyboard) cover has the magnet and works perfectly
the samsung OEM official keyboard cover does have sort of "auto sleep/wake" function.
HOWEVER, IT WORKS AS FOLLOWS: tablet turns on when connected to pogo pins on keyboard......tablet turns off when disconnected from pogo pins.....
confirmed on my model this evening.
check the following:
go to settings > system > accessories.......then turn "on" automatic unlock.
The seller of this case claims it doesn't have wakelock magnets but it does... dont bother
