Hello I am planning to switch from LG G2 to a new phone.
I am currently looking at my options, which include:
1. Xperia Z2
2. Xperia Z3 Compact
3. Xperia Z1 Compact
4. HTC One M8
5. Others
I want a reliable phone for a long time period usage (atleast 1.5yrs without any hardware issue whatsoever). I dont get warranty support in my country sadly, so hardware reliability is a big concern!!
Please share the common issue you guys have faced using Z2 and help me decide whether I should spend a little more and get the M8, or get the Z3 Compact (Z3 C and Z2 costs the same in my country) or save up and get the Z1 Compact instead.
Thanks

Go get any xperia but a Z2 because there is no garuntee that you will not get a flawless unit
You do have a decent posibility of getting a defective unit
I recomend Z3, Z or ZU if you want a powerful device
Z2 is only problematic due to the change of manufacturer, Z3 isnt a problem, all units ive used show no problems where 60% of Z2s showed problems

Can you please mentions the specific type of issues you came across?
The major problem I found so far for Xperia Z3 Compact (doing internet research, specially on xda-forum) is the USB flaps dont get into place and thus its not flush with the body. I dont exactly need the water proofing much, but its a hardware level concern

Z2 -
Gaps in frame(no waterproofing and also dust damage on screen)
Easy breakable flaps
Dust problems due to gaps or flaps
Easily scratches on the back
Overheating issue(they are quite bad)
Camera fails to work(some units)
Potential random death(some units)
Buttons break easy(some units)
Random lag (earlier units)
Random reboots (some units)
Screen death (seems all units have posibility)
Yellow tint (??? Random it seems)
Dead pixels (earlier units)
Etc etc etc
Much more ... Less damaging problems
You have a high posibility to have atleast 3 of these problems
Z3- standard release units have been noted to have no issues at all exept minor heating under exteme load, and the power button becoming lose

Z3 and Z3C just came out. So I guess it will take some time for more issue to show up.
Sad Sony has not changed yet. Their phones are still the same unreliable. So sad
Everytime I decide to buy a new phone I have Sony phone on my top priority and then end up rejecting them after a little bit of research

Its only Z2 and around with problems due to the new manufacturer, rest are fine
Xperias have been reliable for me since 2010
I had an xperia S which somehow out lived a Nokia 3310
And this Z2 aside the Heating issue has been tougher than my mothers iphone 5
Xperias arent bad as people say, its Just Z2 because of that change of manufacturer
As for Z3, ive found no problems at all, all of the Z3s, the show room ones the developer ones or the imported ones my freinds have, none of them have any problems
Im starting to think %90 of complains about other xperias are lies because ive used alot of them and alot of the same types and half the problems dont exist
Z2 is the only one which has shown atleast half of the complaints are true this time
If you dont believe this you can go and ask alot of developers who buy ordinary units and have done since xperia X10 pro

Where did you get the figure 60% have problems? Also, where do you get z3's don't have problems?

Call quality(at times)and camera over heat( taking more than 3 pictures in warm conditions or recording 4k) are the only 2 problems I have encountered with my z2.
Im in the same boat as the OP.
To be honest the responses on here have put me right of getting a z2 or any Xperia for that matter
sounds like the z2 is plagued with major problems
No problem in my , just recording after about 10 and 15 min closes the camera app !
may search any forum all smart will present some kind of problem ,with z2 is no different !
this guy who posted this statistic was wondering where he got that base
Sorry my bad english!

Z3s ive used, none of them have to seem any problems, not even overheating however most of them got warm out of gaming
And about 61.3% of Users > XDA/non XDA seemed to have issues which i listed most of the common ones
(i actualy did math but i cheated and used a calculator lol)
(I did include the people who complain about silly things because im too lazy to disinclude)

Every z2 iv used doesn't have those issues. Does that mean the z2 doesn't have any issues either? Sane logic.

Z2 it seems oddly mixed, i think the best results would be from an organised poll, not a user written where faults are likely to be common
I took from the QnA section and i counted this at about 3AM, there are some repeats instead of Unique
I agree about an organized poll, but XDA and Sony forum instantly taint the pool. People are inherently more likely to complain (like off center camera WTF) than commend a product.
OP for an unbiased answer, read reviews online by reputable sources.

I do like how you collated both XDA and non-xda users from the XDA QnA section though. Lies, damned lies .........

I have alot of freinds who buy ever Z Series xperia that comes out so alot of them complained about silly gaps and non waterproofing and your taking the "From the XDA QnA Section" too literely
For the QNA we should post in the general section where less problematic users will see as oposed to Qna or Development
I suggest htc m8 if you want use for long period time

Don't worry too much. The gap issues are minimal (I myself had a unit with bad waterproofing, just got it replaced). Think about it, there are probably a few hundred thousand units out there, some are bound to have issues.
Additionally, people are way too quick to say the Z3 is so amazing. Pixels don't die in the first week, meaning even if the Z2 had those issues they only became apparent a while after the phone came out.
To those saying Z3 is much different from Z2 can't have it both ways. Either it's an original device with possibly unknown issues, or a slight improvement over the Z2. Enjoy your new phone when it arrives! Also, if you got it under warranty, make sure to test the waterproofing right away. If it's bad it's better to replace it soon instead of finding it in a year once past warranty.

thanks for that, I will test out the device once I get it. So besides the gaps and making sure its waterproof what else do you recommend?
btw what should I look for when I put it under water? like to see if its not waterproof? sorry for the noob questions, just new to the xperia....

I can only speak from what I saw, although I came across a few posts with similar experience. Basically I had water under both cameras and it was registering phantom touches, and this was from mere seconds underwater. Camera stopped working temporarily, device was overheating; it was a nightmare. When they replaced the phone they gave me one made in week 23 which hopefully means some kinks have been ironed out.
Also, be prepared for your phone overheating around the NFC logo (just for locating, it has nothing to do with NFC), this is normal. Camera is intensive as are games. You probably know you won't be able to shoot 4K for more than a few minutes. If you accept these quirks, the phone is a beast. Everything is smooth, games run great - if you're a gamer the dualshock pairing feature combined with the hacked display streaming APK are a godsend.
Hi,
I bit of a weird question but is there anyway to remove the sony logo from the front of the phone and the xperia and sony logo on back of the phone.
Thanks
Kamal
Nope

I had a Xperia Z once, with the Sony logo gone. I bought it from a private person, so I thougt I might had purchased a fake phone, did some reasearch + questioning and found out that the Sony logo was printed on a screenprotector, and that this protector might had been removed.
I don't know if it is the same with the Z2, but at least it was one on my Z.

Hi folks, I'll try to buy the z2 but first I'd like to know some feedbacks of the phone, more precisely about two things.
1) Does this phone heat up a lot?
2) Is it a too heavy phone?
My second question is because i have a s4. It's a pretty light weight phone, and the z2 is like 1.63 g i think.
Thanks in advance and I hope someone can answer my doubts.

1: It does get a bit warm, but not any warmer than most phones using the SD801. It won't burn your hands, or any other body parts
2: It isn't that heavy. The weight increase will be noticeable, especially when compared to the S4 which is a lightweight, but the weight is not a bad thing at all. It makes it feel more expensive, more refined and sturdy.
I've owned mine for more than a year, and no problems have appeared. So, if you were wondering about the reliability, it hasn't let me down ever

1) Yes. The phone gets hot. I'm a heavy user so it used to happen that the cpu reaches sometimes 81C, but still it won't burn your skin just like s4's sim card slot does.
2) You will notice the difference immediately, that's for sure. But if it's bad, I don't think so. It won't make your pants fell down on the ground but you still will be able to feel it in your pocket and hand.
BTW. It's the best smartphone I ever had until now.

Every smartphone out there gets hot, but I thought thay the z2 was one of the hottest , because of the comments I've read. I'm glad it's not like that.
Is nice to feel that your phone is expensive, and not a toy like the s4 feels like. So the weight, regarding your comment, is the appropriate. Thank you!

Hi all.
I dropped my z2 and now the middle frame is broken and kind of seperated from display. The width seems to get bigger with time. I'm afraid it could damage the screen.
What could you advice me?
Should I try to replace the middle frame only?
I have had a nexus 4 before and have successfully replaced the digitizer by seperating it from lcd without damaging lcd.
Oh. Damn.
Of course I would check for some tutorial on the Internet how to disassemble the phone. If it is like doable-level then I would go for it. But if it would seem to hard, like if you could damage something easily then I would leave it the way it is.

Ok I managed to change the frame but now my phone's sensors stopped working (accelerometer, proximity)
In service menu the proximity shows off always, and the accelerometer test also fails..
Any advice?
