Slow charging since 11.19 update? - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, each time it´s friday I´m happy because it´s firmware time
Loading up sebsch1991´s sMIUI, this time I noticed that the phone charges veeeeery slow!
Before, It pulled over 1A of the charger, (1.4A I think, which is 0.5C and thus makes sense) but now it´s always somwhere between 0.06A and 0.17A... I have a USB power chceker in between.. The phone has been charging for 6 hours now to reach a liitle over 50% .. from 23 when I put it in.
Anybody else on 11.19 having issues?

I am on the 11.19 update, and I haven't noticed any obvious problems with charging, but I have not watched it closely. I will on next recharge, and will add in a USB line monitor, too.

Sorry.. I think I made a bull**** posting. Flashed back to the previous firmware and noticed that nothing changed.
Went back to 11.19 and the problem still existed. Then I removed the cheap Chinese voltage/current/capacity meter and charging was back to normal.
Thats what happens when two things occur at the same time: fw update and the chinese crapthing breaking by itself.
Also, thats what happens when OP not checks with other device to be sure measurement is OK. Unprofessional.
Lesson learned. Freaked out too early. Sorry for making bull**** posting on this forum....

is there a way to delete this unnecessary topic?

no, charging is the same

Strange Issue: Vibrant battery status is *discharging* while plugged into usb.

Hey guys,
I'm having an interesting issue here, basically I've noticed my vibrant isn't charging the phone battery,
instead it says "discharging" when plugging it in. When i go to the 'about phone - status area'.
When I unplug the charger it says "not charging" and when I plug it in it says Discharging.
Has anyone seen this behavior on their phones? I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my phone
or if Samsung tries to regulate the battery reconditioning it?.
I would like to avoid having to return my phone if this is some sort of strange issue with the vibrant.
I have had the vibrant for over a week now, have not done any changes to it other then simply rooting it,
no flashing done otherwise. I just happened to notice this tonight before going to bed.
Also note that I do not have wifi turned on, and I wasn't running anything at the time either that should be
draining it more then a charger should put out. I have also tried charging it using the charger that came with
the vibrant and a second charger I bought.
I have only seen one post related to this on Google.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-vibrant/33383-battery-discharging-error.html
Update: I can tell you that my % has gone down, from 30% to now 20%, still discharging..
Also Screen Brightness is set to lowest, WiFi Off, and not running any applications in the background,
on original vibrant rom.
Video Or it Didn't Happen, Posted.
Here I took a video of it too if for some reason you can't see what i'm saying, or think i'm crazy.
Weird Camera is angle is cause the phone number just happens to be right under the battery status.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nk_JHdlMVbg
what charger are you using? and do you have another that you can test? Also if you're charging VIA usb port on your laptop have you installed the samsung drivers, if not install the samsung USB drivers, if you have then try a different USB port.
its doubtful its the phone, far more likely the USB port, charger or cable
I have charged it with 3 different chargers, and cables from different computers and usb ports, as well as in wall charger,
the samsung usb drivers are installed and i'm able to access adb.
My computer also has 3 powered usb hubs.
The battery kept draining, till the phone shut off and restarted on its own
after receiving a charge from the charger, so i'm wondering if maybe some
other people might be able to notice this behavior at all.
When it restarted on its own it said it had 60% battery from 0% right before charging,
so I am wondering if perhaps some people's phones are doing this in the middle of the night.
After restarting the phone charges normally starting at a really high %.
Could this be caused by software problems on the phone.
that is crazy... you certainly have ruled out a charger problem.
Was this just a one time thing and after the restart it's charging normally?
if it's still acting up you could try flashing the original rom via odin or to be safe take it back and exchange it.
People might not be realizing theres a discharging problem
Yeah has only happened once that I've caught so far, so thats why i'm trying to raise a little bit of awareness,
seeing that other post on androidcentral it seems like some people got to be having this problem.
Maybe they just don't realize it. Its not something you'd notice plugging the phone in before bed.
For now it seems fine after a restart, its possible that its a problem that occurs after the phone has been on for so many hours,
and perhaps a memory leak occurs of some sort. It could even be Samsung's poor attempt trying to recondition the battery somehow.
I have had some odd occurrences where I have grabbed my phone off the charger first thing in the morning and found it around 30%. Rebooted it and it charged normally. I think this has happened twice now. I didnt notice anything while I had it plugged in so I can't say if it said discharging or not.
Maybe what you could do is go to the phone settings, scroll to the about section and check out the battery status next time that happens.
On the larger scale of things, this could be a fairly common issue that noone
is taking a look at.
It could be related to why some people are having very poor battery life
and why the battery meter can be really inaccurate.
If your phone discharges itself completely, reboots thinking its at 60% battery life,
I can see that causing many problems that you just wouldn't see since people
just plug their phone in and go to bed.
Bump cause I'm having the same issues. Was a solution ever found for this?
I had this problem before but it happened to me with an after market battery, once I changed batterys the problem went away. so basically your battery is bad..
Yes! I have this problem all the time. A restart will fix it but often I will plug it into a wall charger or car charger and my Battery Indicator Pro will say "failure". Battery life is also horrible.

This is caused by running 2.2.1 roms I think. Only got it once and was on such a rom. A restart will fix it. Its possible you didn't flash good as I have never gotten it since. Its a rom issue though.

Op was running stock rom.
You need to delete your battery stats, but to do this you need to be rooted.Looks like your phone is not charging at all .... plug the charger in and take out the battery and see if it starts charging.... hope this helps ....
this is happening to me, right now. i've had it happen once before, i shut down, pulled the battery, replaced it and booted. it charged fine afterwards. but i don't want that as an answer.
mine is at 84 hours uptime, i don't remember what it was last time i had this issue. whats weird is i was just charging at work not 30 minutes before i got home and plugged it in to charge. worked fine half an hour ago. but not now.
i've got a stock vibrant on 2.2. wonder what's causing this.
This happened to me and i could only get it to charge by rebooting it. I eventually had to replace my phone because it also was doing soft reboots too but discharging also.
I think I found a solution. Is anyone still having this issue tho? If so ill post it.

I have this problem and have been for a while. Will you post the solution please?
Thanks in advance.
here too... but with a htc wildfire (aka buzz)
it discharges while in charge
very strange!
I tried almost everything, also replaced battery with another one original of course... nothing changes, also replaced AC charger... nothing!! my mobile become a fix line
unluckily I don't have a rooted phone so it's not possible for me to recalibrate trough SW
ive had a battery issue similar to this. my battery never discharged while plugged in, but after flashing a 2.2.1 rom(bi-winning) and then installing "battery left" and reconditioning my battery, the "battery left" app had a roughly 18% difference in battery charged then the system...as the syatem read the battery as being lower then the app showed i had. it would shut off with "low battery" when the app said i had about18% left. after flashing again and reconditioning my battery again the problem went away...could be some software setting somewhere!

Phone Not Charging Thread

This is now happening on my replacement phone! I got the first phone replaced because it wasn't charging but now it's happening again on the replacement. It seems to only happen when the battery gets to 20% or lower. When it does this, it doesn't matter if it is USB or wall charging. I have been able to get the new phone to charge now twice by rebooting - one time it took three reboots. The first time it happened on my first phone the battery widget stuck on 50% and I didn't get the low battery warning and the battery went to 0 before I knew it and it took forever to begin charging again. I've been on different battery modes when it happens, so that isn't causing it.
I've mentioned this on a couple other threads and there's been others that responded it happened to them, so I thought I'd start a thread on this in case Motorola is monitoring this forum (they better be). Anyone else chime in here so we can get a feel for how widespread this may be.
Just let mine go down to 20 plugged up and its charging but im only on day one

Have you tried doing a hard reset and letting the phone sit for 20 minutes. It could be some kind of bug. I know mine had some force closes on the first day. I did a hard reset from recovery and let the phone sit at first boot. Then did a reboot and have had no problems since.
Master reset for photon 4g.

I did a factory reset on the first phone and that didn't change this problem.
I haven't seen this problem on my phone. Best thing to do is report it to the Motorola forums and have them look at it especially if many others are experiencing the same issue.
In the mean time, you possibly could have another bad unit. Not sure why it would not charge when the battery hits 20% or lower. Also what battery widget are you using?

Good idea on the Moto forums. I have tried Battery Monitor widget, Circle Battery widget and Battery Notifier (big text) widget. No one widget was in use or installed for every instance I had a battery charge problem, but I guess it may be more than one widget with potential interferences. Has anyone else been using any of these widgets and not experienced this problem?
@Beartrap
What battery widgets etc have you installed? Sounds like a compatability issue with something that was installed. Try using the phone completely stock with no custom widgets installed. If you can get the phone back to stock out of box condition that would be the best way to troubleshoot this problem. I doubt it's another bad phone.

I agree it's not a bad phone, but some bug either in the phone or installed app/widget. I'd like to know what battery widgets people are using that haven't had this issue so I know what's safe.
Not exactly related to battery widgets but i have noticed that Estrong's, Astro and File Expert file managers do not work correctly on my Photon. They don't show the full capacity of my 16gb sd card and they also don't show all the files in my download folder. So I'm thinking theirs going to be more incompatability issues with this phone until app developers get some updates rolled out for this phone.
As for battery widgets, i don't use them. I use the stock battery ifo that is included with the Photon. Sorry I can't give any help with that. but I'm pretty sure the widgets in the Android Market will not be fully compatible with the Photon. Uninstall everything you installed from the market and use your phone for a day or so and see how it acts.
I'm having the same issue, i'm not using any sorta battery widget/app, just stock(non-rooted).
Its been charging for about 4 hours today and went from 20% to 30% and its hot, really hot.
I've had it since day one and seems to match what the OP is saying about once it goes below 20-30% it has a hard time charging but like i mentioned before, mine gets toasty when its failing at charging.
Also had an issue while streaming from google music beta, went from 100 to 20% in <2 hours and once again it was hot as the devil's **** then it wouldn't charge.

I did fail to mention that each time I did notice the back of the phone was pretty warm but not what I'd consider real hot. The third time this happened (on second phone), I cooled it down to room temperature and it still wouldn't charge.

Well it got hotter the my evo 4g ever did after flashing many roms and kernels and what not and even hotter the my pre minus when simultaneously charging and tethering. Havent had a phone get that hot before, i'll try to get a temp reading when it happens again.
Just pulled the battery little while ago and it started charging again. Seems to be hit or miss with the restarts and battery pulls the get the thing going.
I havent tried just turning it off and letting it charge past 30% yet, to see if it only does it when it on vs. when it off.
It's happened again. I was running speedtest.net repeatedly to test my radios and my battery temp climbed up to 118F. I checked if the phone would charge periodically and it did until the battery got less than 30%. It seems to be this combination that causes the malfunction. I rebooted and it charged fine, but the temp also fell to 115F, so I don't know if it was the reboot or lower temp, but at least now I know how to get it to recharge and not run th and it always charged, battery down to 0.
I tried to make this happen the other night by running quadrant repeatedly, but temps never went above 115. It always charged that night, so 115-118 is the magic number together with <30% battery.
BTW - our radios may kickass, but they also generate a lot of heat, so be on the alert to high battery temps when hitting the radios hard.
My first Photon had the problem where the battery went from 50% to DEAD immediately. I remember one time the phone was red hot to the touch right before it died, it was just idling. It wouldn't accept charge until I removed and replaced the battery.
My replacement Photon doesn't have the problem (yet) or any of the first Photon's problems. I am convinced there is a bad batch of Photons out there.
Unfortunately I'm on my second photon. I exchanged the first for this reason.
Do any of you happen to use a case with a magnet in it? I've only had this happen twice and both times it was in a case. Now it doesn't happen.

I am using the black Sprint case, but there's no magnet in it. I do think the case may aggrevate the heat buildup so if I hit it hard again and feel it getting warm, I'll be sure to remove the case.

This theory just got shot down. I hooked up the USB charging cable at 62% and 84F and it wouldn't charge. The phone recognized the connection and displayed the message it was in charge mode, but the battery in the notification bar didn't show it was charging nor did battery monitor widget. I then connected it to the OEM wall charger and cable and nothing. I rebooted and no change. I shutdown the phone and hooked it up to AC and it went into charge mode. I then booted and it's going into charge mode as it should. I'm back to square one again.

That doesn't matter, you have every right to exchange it 283892 times until you get one that works. within the 30 days, It is in our contract. Not sure why people don't understand this. It doesn't matter where you get it, what store you get it from, Sprint, Best Buy, Radio ****, bob's electronics supply..you can get it exchanged. Personally, I wouldn't have even hesitated nor made this post, I would have just exchanged it.
Then made this post to say what happened to a photon I used to have. lol
EDIT: People need to speak up and let companies understand that you just won't settle. I come across customers everyday that just settle. I work for Comcast, talk to customers daily about things. I get, oh yea and then our internet sucks, and this doesn't work and oh yea this broke and we don't get this channel but we pay for it. My first question is, "Did you call?"....their answer, "Call who?"..or just "No". LOL I'm like, how the hell do you think stuff will get fixed if no one knows you have any problems? haha
You are the consumer, you have a lot of rights to the product you paid money for.
This is a great phone, but like all electronics some stores might get a bad shipment, it happens.
Good Luck with whatever you choose to do.
I have exchanged mine 2 times, 1 had a messed up screen, the other 1 had some problem that I couldn't make calls. So far this one is good to go! The Charm

[Q] Battery displays 0% even after full charge

Hello,
I tried searching for this issue but came up with nothing. I have an issue with my new TF201 where the battery shows 0% several times a day even though there is still power. As a result, it tells me to "Connect to charger". I know there is power because I continue using the prime without charging and eventually, the battery usage shows the correct charge at 85% or something. The issue repeats throughout the day.
I am pretty sure this is a software bug but I cannot find a dedicated thread to this issue. Is this a known issue? If so, can you forward me to the official thread to it?
Thanks.

I actually had the same exact problem. I feel like it has something to do with the battery sensor or something. Anyways, mine eventually stay at 0% and I could no longer charge the device or do firmware updates. Anyways, I have sent my to ASUS for repairs and hopefully all will be dandy afterwards. Good luck with yours.
I got this on my evo 3d after installing a superalpha ics rom and a superalpha kernel. I think its software.
Sent from my tablet thing with XDA Premium.
I hate to bump this thread, but did you resolve this OP? My Prime started doing it too. Rebooting, powering off for a few hours, even leaving it with the screen on till it completely drains itself didn't help.
Everything says battery status is unknown, when I have the keyboard dock connected it usually will show the percentage remaining on that, but it seems to occasionally just jump to a lower percentage throughout the day, rather than slowly sink as it tops off the main battery.
I hope it isn't hardware, my Prime has been great otherwise, I'd hate to have to send it in.
I can't embed the pics due to my low post count, but I attached two screen shots. Any ideas? I'm not rooted, running update 21.
Just an update, I accidentally dropped my tablet last night as it slid off my motorcycle seat while I was putting my helmet on, when I picked it up the battery gauge started working again.
And to repeat an age old saying, if it ain't broken don't fix it
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
I don't mean to bump the thread, I just wanted to post an update in case anyone with a similar issue finds this thread. After my last post, my Prime worked fine for a few weeks, it would randomly switch between the battery gauge working and not working, then one day the tablet died like it was out of juice. I'm not sure what happened, but the only way the tablet would still work was if I plugged it into the wall power outlet, and the moment it was unplugged it would die. I couldn't even use my keyboard dock, as it would start booting, then right before it finishes booting it would shut off like it stops accepting power from the dock for a moment.
I ended up contacting Asus, they issued me an RMA, and about 2 weeks later (most of that shipping back and forth), I had received my Prime, but repaired good as new. The paperwork was vague, so I don't know the actual cause of the issue or what was repaired, but it has been flawless since I got it back. I personally suspect the connector for the battery came loose, and based on how rough I was that day would determine how seated the connector was, until it came totally out.

Fast charging stops while charging.

Hi
I'll put my G5 on charge and it will start to fast charge like normal then after a few minutes stop and go to just charging, if I pull the cable out the phone and plug it back in, it will usually still not fast charge sometimes it does first time tho but normally I'll have to do that 3 or 4 times to get it to fast charge again and usually it then fast charges normally till the battery if fully charged.
I thought it was the cable as it was on it way out it had a internal break where it would stop charging or go to normal charging at times so ordered a replacement cable same make (choetech 6ft) I've been using for over a year now and a juicebitz 9ft one and there both doing the same and I even tried the original cable and that's doing it too so it's not the cable.
I've cleaned the usb port no change, I've factory reset no change, can't remember when this first started as I thought it was the cable but I think it could of been around the time of the last update but can't be sure on that could of easily been just before.
What to try next could it be a charger fault, a faulty bottom module/ usb port, battery fault or a fault with the phone itself?
Any help would be appreciated.
I have same issue with my phone after last update.
That's good know not good that your having the same issue I mean good to know it's not a hardware problem.
I've seen a couple of posts after I starting this thread in the v20i update thread from users with the same problem so it looks like it's a software issue I can stop stressing about it as there's nothing I can do about it.
I did a search before posting and must of missed it or used the wrong terms in my search.
I just hope they will fix that in next update (oreo)

same here. its turning to normal after minutes and when you plug it again its fast charging for a short time. LG g5 is a headace. My disappointment.
I have the exact same issue with my H-850 I even went to the extent of sending the phone in for repairs under the warranty. They replaced the mainboard and the bottom module but the problem still persists, its either the battery or software, my money is on the software

Urgent question, 10 pro suddenly charges very slow

Hi, my 10 pro is suddenly charging extremely slow, 10% per hour maybe. Has any of you run into this as well?
Booted a few times, same.
Can't find anything similar here either.
Suggestions appreciated except it's broken

It's broken!
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Try the obvious...
Try a different cable
Try a different charger
Check for running apps
Check built-in (from Settings) battery usage to see where the energy's going
It's possible that your battery's gone pear-shaped and the 'phone is trying to be easy on it, but highly doubtful.
It's also possible (given the recent popularity in recent months) that you've been infected with a cryptocurrency mining trojan, which is sucking the charge out almost as fast as your charger can feed it in.
I doubt the latter at its charging equally slow when switched off. Tried all the rest already.
Another thing, first it stopped charging at 50%, was hovering around that.
After a few reboots is now staying around 60.
Factory reset may fix this but I'm on vacation with no options to backup 90gb of data...

I seem to remember a problem similar to this waaaay back in the Gingerbread days, though people only experienced it after improperly flashing custom ROMs. It was something to do with how Android kept a track of battery levels, and (as far as I can remember) the solution was to go into recovery and reset the battery stats.
Definitely not the sort of thing that should be happening in the middle of normal use though, and I doubt you would've been re-flashing ROMs while you're away.
