Need help troubleshooting random reboots - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heya,
I'm running Oxygen OS 2.1.3 and a few times a week, my device reboots without any warning. There is no common denominator and can be while reading an sms, during a phonecall or just while lying inactive on a table. The reboot seems to be soft since i don't have to enter the SIM-pin when booted. Also, this happened both before and after i rooted.
Is logcat the best way to determin what's happening? If so, I rarely use logcat and would apretiate if someone could recommend an app for this scenario and what i to look for in the log.
Thanx in advance!

Am i The only one having random reboots?

Got the exact same problem mate, looking for a solution too.

try updating your device to latest version i.e. 2.1.3x through settings if you are not rooted than see if the problem persists. :good:

Are u rooted? I think yes because u should have had the ota notification since long. Anyway, go to setting/phone info and get the version! If it is 2.1.3 without the "x" u must update the device to the last build available. If u are stock and not rooted there is no matter indeed. Go to system update and follow the instructions. In the other way, if u are rotted, u must check the various existent topics "how to update" in the general section or q/a section

I'm using the stock version. Did a factory reset and haven't had the issue occur again. Maybe the latest OS version isn't updated now, the last version might've caused the problem.

The fastest and simplest solution to fix OnePlus X random reboots is to turn the WiFi off. If you turn the WiFi off, the phone will not reboot any more.

Still having the problem after cleared cache and reset to factory.
OS is updated.
Any suggestions other than disabling my WiFi?
Thanks

i've been on my minor tweaked version of the stock ROM and haven't had either of these issues, "random reboots and screen freezes".
does any certain set of actions on the device trigger the screen freeze or random reboot?
if you have a custom ROM loaded at the moment, perhaps check that specific ROM developer thread for similar reported issues?
if the custom ROM developer/thread can't offer any specific help, i'd test the device on a stock ROM to make sure it isnt hardware related.
if you experience these issues on the stock ROM, i would think it might be hardware related.
technical route: if you want to dive deeper into the issue, after a random reboot, can pull the /proc/last_kmsg to if the kernel debug output shows anything helpful regarding the reboot .. *sometimes* it contains the reason and can help troubleshoot, especially if it is a custom kernel, that last_kmsg file will help the developer.
sorry to hear about the random reboots and screen freezing .. those are definitely some of the worst issues to experience. hope the troubleshooting steps and technical details help!

That is just Sprint pushing out a working PRL since they sent out a messed up one last week that caused 3G to be non-existent.

Hopefully I Won't, But Realistically...
The next time I have a Reboot, or a Screen Freeze, What/How can I find out what caused it?
Can it be done with Root Explorer Searching through System Files?
Oh Yeah, and Thanks by the way!
Battery monitor widget with a 10 second logging will help you rule out temp and voltage. Plus, it's free and simple.
Also, make sure you have all of your system on the newest revisions. I went from unstable to stable after really evaluating that I had the correct versions of price, radio, rpm patch, and rom. HTC fixed something in those items that my phone desperately needed to have fixed!

[Q] Denying Update cause am scared

Hi,
I am currently on a rooted SGS2 GT-i9100. Rom: AllianceROM ICS with Siyah kernel (no link cause it's fairly popular).
Since two days ago my phone keeps asking me to update my device. Programmeupdate is roughly translated (located in About phone> And the first "bar")
Could this be the JB update? It doesn't seem like JB cause it's file size was about 13.5 MB, but am still not sure.
I keep denying it because i think it could brick my phone, don't know though, but i'm sure as hell not gonna find out. The icon for Update keeps staying in my statusbar and every 3 hours it comes as message with alternatives: Install or Later. (i keep pressing later) This is really annoying and hence my question (main)
How do i get rid of it?
Or if it's good to update, i'll do it, If one of you say so.
Thank you for your time and extra thanx for replies
Regards
By removing/stopping it with titaninium backup.

[Q] TWRP Advice

Apparently Voodoo OTA doesn't keep root now with the official JB update?
(I've been using my Nexus7 for a while hence why I am just now coming back to my TF201)
Now I guess it's time to unlock /re-root and flash a custom ROM.
So before I continue on with any unlocking / rooting, I want to make sure I have the correct file (http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf2...1.1-tf201.blob) for my device so I don't brick it.
My Build number on my device is JR030c.US_epad-10.4.2.18-20121122
Is the above TWRP file the correct image for my build#?
Thanks all.

Your link isn't complete.
I can tell you tho that you are on the Jellybean Bootloader so get this http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/tf201/openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-tf201-JB.blob
So the TWRP build number doesn't have to match the build number of my device?
I think that is where I was getting confused..... The build number of the TWRP is just the "version number" of the TWRP file?

Yes, you want the newest version of TWRP but for the correct bootloader. You are on Jellybean bootloader so I have linked you to the newest version for that.
Thanks. Huge help. I posted this same exact question on numerous threads for the past few days and you are the first one to answer.

You should be fine..
When you go into fastboot mode it will freeze on the prime screen. That is normal.
You will probably have to install universal naked drivers from the Dev section then in device manager if you have an unknown device before continuing.
I've successfully installed TWRP.
I had no freezing issues and the driver got installed by windows update (of all things?)
Running a backup now in TWRP and placing it on SDCard before I go any further.
Again, huge thanks.

Massive battery drain and JB update.

Hi,
I'm very sorry if the problem was in other topic, but I looked first 10-12 pages of topics and couldn't find anything. My wive's Motorola RAZR MAXX (european, retail,non-carrier) is still on ICS, newest software availible, but from time to time get massive battery drain from process called Multimedia. Fully charged phone can run out of battery in few hours, get hot like from the furnace and finally turn off out of "juice". We are aware of the problem, that this single process is draining the battery, since we've looked at battery manager and this process is beeing constantly restarting, causing 100% CPU usage and draining battery. Forced-close helps, but this process manage to restart in background and it's stupid to constantly closing it in task manager every time after finishing some tasks that trigger him to start again. So, are there any temporary solutions for this? Is Motorola aware of the problem and will fix this in upcoming JB update? And finally, when EU versions of RAZR/MAXX get official JB update?
Regards, Jacek

I'm really aprreciate the help, but this firmware seems to be a leak, not the official one, so I won't risk bricking phone (wife's), especially, we've got iMac, so no windows program work on it (I presume it's needed for forced flashing via recovery) and I've never done any rooting/flashing myself. I'll have to wait for official update via OTA.
But you've mentioned, that you're familiar with the problem - was it fixed with the JB update in your case?

This may not come.
Only few ROM are updated via OTA: Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU.
And I think your ROM version is not one of them :/
You need to change ICS to one of upper ROM, and then you can take JB update.

Now wife has rom 672.180.41.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU - why do You think this Rom won't be updated any time soon? I bought this phone from normal store, it has motorola warranty (non-carrier, it's not imported from foreign country), I live in Poland. If you're right how can I make the update SAFELY on on iMac? Is it possible? The problem is getting stronger everyday - process activating himself randomly and sometimes it's too late to switch it off before it do some damage to battery. It's bloody anoying!
I'm sure that ROM 672.180.41.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU won't be updated to JB - This device will remain on Android 4.0.4 (ICS)
You can confirm that at Motorola website (Select Poland and Retail, then Motorola Razr phone):

As I know you must root your ICS, install Safestrap, install new ICS(one of Retail.en.FR, Retail.en.EU, Retail.en.AU, Vodafone.en.EU), root new ICS, install voodoo ota root keeper and buckup root, install JB update, I think this would look something like this.

I don't think you can just install other version of ICS without rooting.
Well, it’s looks like I’m ****ed up #$% I can’t update without rooting, I can’t root and update because there is no Mac tools for doing this, Motorola won’t plan to update RAZR/MAXX in my third world country to JB (get confirmation from support), and even if I’ll ask someone to make an update for me (if I found someone from near my location who know how to do this without bricking the phone) I still loose warranty because rooting void warranty. If I know all of this earlier I wold have never buy moto phone. Support guy told me that the only thing I can do is to make a factory reset, and if it won’t solve the problem give the phone to warranty. Either way I don’t have many options here – will try to reset phone first, it doesn’t take much time and doesn’t hurt.
But have one more question (maybe lame, but I’ve never done rooting) – since the rooting void warranty, is it possible to make an update to retail.UK JB and then COMPLETELY remove root with any trails it was on phone? So I won’t lost warranty and have newest software? If yes, then it will make sense to look for someone to help me with the whole update process.

Take alook in the dev section and search rsdlite with this tool you can flash 672.180.41.en.eu (fastboot file has a different name)
There are many threads on how to
Then you upgrade to JB
Root is not needed for any of this
dude there will be some big media file on ur SD card which would be not able to read like in my case there was 1.4gb mkv video file which was not readable by mediaproces so it was constantly trying to update the gallery so becuase of such files which are unreadble causes media process to constantly run.....so check ur SD card whether u have any such file...if no then search for dev section for root and flash JB rom....

The wifi on my Samsung S3 GT-I9300 device won't work. It just toggles on/off/on/off when I attempt to turn it on. I purchased the phone with the following already installed on it:
CWM
SuperSU
Android Version 4.2.2
Kernel Version - (says here in the about screen) 3.0.31-611730
Build number - Omega v45 - XXUFME3
I've done a LOT of searching here on XDA but I just find myself lost in a world of information. I found a video on youtube, but it's for the S4 and doesn't offer links to the correct files for the S3. Some have told me flash a new ROM and other a new Kernel, but because of version numbers, and not wanting to brick this phone... i'm not sure where to start...
Please would someone be willing to help me out? I am living in Honduras and the service I use is prepay here.. wifi is a HUGE money savings for me here. Many thanks to whoever is willing...
If it is an i9300 then download a stock firmware from sammobile that will work in your country (3G signal). Follow the guide in general forum on how to flash. Factory reset in recovery before first boot.
Test wifi before you install or restore anything, if still the same then it's a hardware fault.

download the stock rom from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=31792 it's from switzerland, but has the latest built number so it's the newest for your device
Flash it via Odin3.09

Thanks for the direction!! I downloaded the file, however when I attempt to open it with WinRAR i'm getting this error message..
"! C:\Users\Heather\Desktop\I9300XXUGND5_I9300AUTGNE1_AUT (1).zip: Unexpected end of archive"
I did an internet search for other places to seek out firmware for a GT-I9300 4.2, but so many results come up speaking to a leaked version of Samsungs firmware. I'm not sure that's a safe route to take...
any ideas on what I might be able to do?
have you flash it via odin?
you can get the odin here https://mega.co.nz/#!UdRRyCAT!H4FyVxYynNWvXqRNmnpMGQRCP-dG3uykgP2pT4rh8Ek
for detail you can watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVLyjeqPtn0
i hope it would help you mate

Unexpected end of file means you have a corrupt download. Just download the firmware file again. If all else fails, look for a post in the S3 General thread regarding a complete back to stock method.

Ok...
So i've successfully flashed the stock ROM file that was provided to me in the link above by "Tkkg1994"
The versions and software in my phone is all different than before, but the wifi still won't turn on. I click the button to turn on wifi... it thinks for about 3 seconds and then just switches back to the off position.
Any ideas what might have gone wrong? or what I might be able to try now?
Thank you so much for all the help up till now.. I hope i'm giving out the right amount of thanks and credit to you all. I really hope I can resolve this!

Wifi is related to kernel if you have changed roms ( which also changes kernel) then most likely it is hardware fault you could try flashing just a custom kernel and if the problem is still there then it is most likely hardware issue.

Yikes. Two words I was definitely hoping it was not.
Well.. I suppose it couldn't hurt to attempt a custom kernel, so the next question would be... any advice on which kernel I should attempt, and how exactly do I flash a kernel?
Thank you again for the help!

You need a custom recovery(Philz touch), flash it through odin. Than download googymax2 and copy it to your sd card. Than enter in recovery mode and flash the kernel.

Ok so I've done both those things, and was successful!!
Is there some setting or something I need to change, or would just having installed these files fixed my wifi issue if in fact it wasn't a hardware issue?

No Tkkg1994
I realize now my previous message gave off that impression. Unfortunately the wifi is still doing the same thing. Is there in fact anything else that might I be able to do??

Maybe a clean new install of your rom? In philz touch recovery select "clean to install a new rom". than install it. after that, wipe cache and dalvik cache
