I did a search and didn't find anything so I apologize if this is a re-post. I can't figure out what function the Wi-Fi has on the Moto360 2. Does anyone have any insight on this?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
I tried figuring this out too since my old gear 2 running wear didn't have wifi. from what I understand if you disconnect from Bluetooth, if you're on a wifi network you can get notification on your watch still no matter where your phone is. your phone can be on the wireless network and not wifi, and still through Google cloud services can send notifications to your watch. you can be like anywhere in the world I presume, and if your watch is on wifi, then you'll get notifications still

That's what I was thinking and I tested that out today without any success. But I think it's because I'm at work and the WiFi situation here is not the best. I'll test at home. Thanks
What the wifi functionality on the watch does, as it did on the 1st gen, is allow communication from your phone to the watch when the watch is out of bluetooth range. You have to be on the same wifi network with the watch and phone currently. There is no current multiple network communication at the moment, though I hope they implement that in the near future. If my hue lights can do it, my damn watch should be able to

Thanks for clearing that up. So the WiFi functionality is basically useless. If my phone and my watch are on the same WiFi network, then the chances are extremely high that they are both also within bluetooth range of each other. Adding to that, the fact that you need your phone to connect to a WiFi network in the first place really defeats the object of having WiFi on the watch at all. So if you're out and about without your phone, there is no chance for you to hook up with a WiFi hotspot.
If my Nexus 6p is connected to 5ghz wifi and my moto 360 2 is connected to 2.4ghz wifi on the same network will i have notifications if i lose bluetooth range?

It's great for me when I'm at home or in the office since bluetooth drains the phone battery much quicker than WiFi. Outside of that benefits are pretty limited.
it's not true though. they don't have to be on the same network. when my phone is 4g and watch is wifi, i still get it. that's because google cloud services are running on the phone and upload and the watch receives it.... just like how my Flux wifi bulb can be accessed remotely from another network and 4g.

I can confirm this. Working on different networks. Wifi plus 4G working fine.

Do notifications on the watch work if the phone is off or dead? What I'm getting at is do the notifications actually come from the phone over wifi or do they come directly from google services?
I have been trying this on my wifi network with no luck. My phone is on my 5ghz wifi and the watch can only do 2.4 (I live in an apt and the 2.4 spectrum is absurdly saturated), I do not get alerts when my phone is out of range (rare since my apt is small).
I like the feature a lot if it worked correctly, it means my phone can sit charging somewhere (IE my room) and I can be around doing things and still get alerts. I will have to do more testing tonight. I might try turning bluetooth off on my phone and see if I still get alerts to my phone.
Still new to the smartwatch world but I love my 360

I'm having a lot of wi-fi issues with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I haven't had with other tablets. I returned the first one because of this and the replacement is suffering from the same issue.
I can't use streaming music apps like Pandora or Tune In Radio for long periods, because those apps freeze up and it seems like the wifi is going to sleep after some period of time when the screen is off. The wifi sleep policy is set to never.
While I never see the wifi disconnecting, I do see the icon turning gray quite often. Not sure what gray means, I've even been able to download apps while the icon was still gray.
I don't really see any complaints about the wifi. Do you guys think it works fine?
Kinda on the fence about returning this for a third Galaxy Tab 10.1 or just returning it for a refund and hoping the Thrive is not too heavy for me.
I do like the tablet. But the wifi is just killing me. I really do like streaming music.
I would attempt to update the firmware on your wireless router before you swap the tab again...or replace the router itself. I've never had a disconnect on any of the four wireless access points I access daily.
I know with the Cyanogen series of ROMs the grey/Green (or Cyan) color on the wifi is used to indicate that the device can make a connection to google's servers.
Not sure if it is the same here...

I've tested with four different routers between my home and work. Unfortunately the issue has occurred with all of them.
This puzzles me. I've had two Xooms and two Transformers and none of them had this problem. Now I've had two Galaxy Tab 10.1s and both have had it.
I'm just having rotten luck with Android tablets I guess.

I'm having similar issues with mine, just assuming it is a firmware issue that will be resolved with time.
The router can handle only five devices make sure you dont have more than five devices also turn off all the wifi devices like xoom etc unplug modem and router for few minute and then plug back modem after all the lights of modem plug the router then after your router restarted turn your galaxy tab on and put it in flight mode and then take it out of flight mode now the problem should be fixed. Remember donor turn your other devices on until you connect galaxy tab to wifi and surf and check how connection is now.
To me it just looks like router issue. Also you can check wifi connectivitity where stores have free wifi like Starbucks etc
I have the gray wireless icon on my tablet as well, but I do not have wireless connectivity issues. I have seen it blue recently, connectivity was fine then as well. not sure why the wireless icon is gray one day and blue the next, but I connect to a series of different routers since I travel a lot.
My icon is gray when I wake up the tab, then turns blue, but I do have it set to turn off wifi when it sleeps.
The one time my wireless icon turned gray was when I had no internet connectivity, but was connected to the wireless network. It turned out that my daughter had accidentally turned off the modem, so although the network was up, we had no net access. My opinion is that gray indicates some type of connection error.

You can try Advanced Wifi Lock (Free) app. I have not had issues on my tab, however I did on my TB and this app worked like a charm for me.
I had the same issue.
I reset my router's configuration to default and just set up the typical WiFi settings and left everything else at default.
Since then, no problems!
I believe it is due to some mysterious router settings. Because the day before i first recognized the WiFi issue, i played with the router's settings.

How do you know that the router can only handle 5 devices? He didn't state what he was using, most routers (except for 3G/4G WiFi Hotspot devices) can handle FAR more than 5.
I'm having an issue that has been bothering me. I run Etrade Pro with streaming data and charts, and when I leave my home, it does not automatically cut the wifi and switch to LTE or 4g. My app stops and says there is no data. This has happened a lot and I wonder if there are some settings that need to assure that mt cell signal automatically kicks in when Wifi cuts out.
ANother problem is that if I approach an area where there is wifi, the phone connects, and i usually get a data issue again.
I also got the same problem when i stream a video while on wifi and then leave the wifi zone, so I know it is not an Etrade app specific problem,
Any advice would be appreciated. What I am having to do is manually shut off wifi and then restart the app when the 4g kicks in, and I know the phone is designed to handle this for me.

I'm not sure this is something we have control over, I was reading over a white paper qualcomm wrote on the matter: http://www.qualcomm.com/media/documents/files/3g-wifi-seamless-offload.pdf
Our phone is 3GPP R8 however, I'm not sure at&t's network supports dual stack mobile IP, so therefor the handoff between wifi and 3g would have to interrupt data.
WHat bothers me is that I just came from an Iphone4 and the iPhone switched from wifi to cell, and my Etrade App kept running. There may have been a momentary lag, but i didn't have to close the app and start it again.
Let me look into it more when I get home. At work youtube is blocked on the company network so I can't test if a video continues between handover here.
WHen I leave my home and know that I am out of wifi range, I still see the wifi symbol on the home screen but it looks like there are no bars of strength. It's like the thing is still trying to draw data through wifi that is well out of range.
Frustrating.

So if the wifi symbol is on the status bar that means the phone is still connected to the wifi (or at least thinks it is).
I was not able to reproduce your problem with youtube when I was home. I started a video on wifi in my home, and then walked out the front door and down the hall until it lost the connection, the wifi symbol disappeared and it just had to re-buffer a little bit after it switched to LTE then the video continued.
Having problems with Wifi streaming and YouTube very slow, stop and start every few seconds, got to be the phone as all my other devices stream fine. I have unchecked avoid poor connections in wifi advanced.
Any one else having this problem, will try factory reset.

EDIT.......wifi speeds are slow again, can't watch YouTube or stream films, it's only on this device, ipad 2, galaxy s3 and s2 all stream with no problems.
Can't download the 6 free promo films either as download fails after a short while.

My facebook app is not working great in my phone. Youtube has been fine so far but I find my internet quite slow at home as I have rubbish internet speed. Also in peak times I get very slow internet connection.
Wifi speed still slow, only on this device,
Also is the . 69 firmware carrier specific?
No firmware update prompt on my phone.
no option for 5GHz in wifi advanced menu

A couple of things to try:
* test with other access points
* restarting the router
* disconnecting other devices
* forgetting the network on the z2 and readding it
I actually got great wifi speeds with my z2. It was even able to max out a 100 Mbps cable broadband connection on an AC router. Worked fine in n-mode also.

Have you tested on any other networks?
Take a trip to Starbucks! See if you get any better speeds there (and a nice latte, damn I'd kill for one right now).
glas to see im not the only one. Google Play Store @ 0.02mb/s
What kind of router do you have and how far is it? I'm able to maintain 2-3MB/s (16-24Mbit/s) over a distance of 20 feet with walls and everything in between.
After getting my phone last Tuesday ive noticed this little bug as well, sometimes downloading/updating google play apps it'll be like 0.5MB/sec but usually when I use drop down menu and quick settings and turn off wifi(give it about 10/20secs) then reactivate it im back to around 8-14Mb/sec, some apps dont even show a download progress its that fast lol.
I believe it might be a 5Ghz wifi problem as my BT hub shows my phone connecting to 5GHz channel with no way to stop it apart from turning 5Ghz off at the router :/
So hopefully sony will either fix bug or give us more wifi options like already mentioned so we can make phone connect to what we want.
K stand corrected phone can/does switch between 2.4Ghz/5Ghz, router shows phone connected at 2.4Ghz now. Just updated an app while connected on 2.4Ghz and no problem.
Z2 D6503 Wifi dropping issues
I seem to be getting the same sort of wifi issues as previously stated. I cannot hold a wifi connection on the 2.4ghz band fro more than 20s before its dissociated (ie i still have full connection to the router (3 bars) but cannot get through to the internet). This happens no matter what router i am connected to, whether its at home or at work.
I have tried:
Setting the Wifi optimization checkbox off. No difference
Avoid poor connections is off. No difference.
Stamina mode is off. No difference.
Keep Wifi on during sleep is set to Always. No difference.
Sleep timeout to 30mins. No difference.
I have factory reset the phone. No difference.
I have also check to see if it is my router at home. I have switched between every channel available which made no difference. Security is Wpa/Wpa2 PSK AES which makes no difference. I only have the 2.4ghz available on that router at home (same at work).
My Note 3 and HTC One connect to both routers with no problems at all and do not drop out. Same goes with Sony Vaio Laptop.
I have installed Wifi Fixer on my Z2 to see if it can alleviate the problem and it does somewhat. instead of manually having to turn on and off the wifi toggle to reestablish a connection, the Wifi Fixer does it for me.Approx. every 20-30s in its log it will show the phone "dissociating" from the router, and the the app tries to "reassociate" the connection.
I can connect through wifi transfer to my Note 3 without issue, and the same goes for my TV, so it cant be a hardware fault, as the connection is still excellent strength for both (as well as the router, tested with Wifi Analyzer). This is a very frustrating problem as it makes watching youtube movies impossible, and hotspotting, skype calls, etc.....
And dont even get me started on the bluetooth dropouts. I am disconnected from a bluetooth connection every 66-70s without fail no matter what i try. No issues with my Note 3 and HTC One in the exact same conditions. It will disconnect then reconnect straight away with a delay of about 3 seconds, which makes calls and listening to music a VERY unpleasant experience.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I love everything else on this phone but this wifi/bluetooth connection issue is making it unusable.
connecting to my bt home hub 4 via 5GHz band only has solved my wifi drop out problems.

For me slow Wifi resulted in many issues, You-tube video cannot be played, video streaming from a network storage cannot be done, Facebook videos will stop at the middle etc where the most evident issues. I tried everything possible to resolve this issues and searching the internet also didn't help. Finally decided to fresh install, used PC companion and re-installed the complete software, then restored all apps using google backup service. After this there is no issue till now. The software version is the same I had before reinstall. But now the Video streaming and apps using internet become very responsive.
thanks

I have a new gear s on Verizon and have found the battery life very variable for lack of a better description. It appears the Verizon version does not display the same info in the moments bar as the Samsung manual shows or as I have seen on other carriers versions. I ask because my battery life in auto connect verses always off is a major difference even when connected to the phone via Bluetooth. It almost appears the 3G/4G is always on in the auto setting. worse case connected to the phone "note 4" via Bluetooth and network in auto I was getting 7 hours from 100% to 15% battery. If I turn the network off in the same situation I got over 40 hours and still had 25% battery left. Does anyone know if the Verizon version actually turns the network on/off in auto mode? Since they don't display this information in the moments bar you don't know if you are on, off or remotely connected. The 3G by the signal strength bar graph is always on whether you are on or in auto mode. Thanks for any help you might have.
I have the Verizon version also. When I'm by my phone Bluetooth automatically turns on and 3g turns off and vice versa. I had problems with it not automatically switching 3g off so I ran clean master from the Samsung store(made for Samsung phones) and ever since then it always works with auto connect

Thank you for your response. I tried your suggestion but can see no immediate difference. If I may ask how do you know 3G/4G is turning on and off? On my watch the Bluetooth symbol in the moments bar will change either having the additional white triangles on each side when connected. The 3G/4G and signal strength bar graph is always there in the on or the auto. Only off will make them disappear. Thanks.

The 3g disappears and turns off the cell radio then connects to my phone Bluetooth. Double check your settings under connections, then mobile networks, make sure gear network is set to auto switch

Thank you once again for the information. I pretty sure mine is not working as it should. I have the 3G and signal strength bar graph if the mobile network is on or in auto phone connected Bluetooth and inches away. You need something to know if its on or off as you stated 3G there or off. The weird thing is with the network in auto and Bluetooth connected I put the phone in airplane mode then tried making a call from the watch. It would not do it. The 3G was there telling me the network is on but not making phone calls. I tried sending a text to the watch phone number with the network off and as expected it didn't come through even connected to the phone via Bluetooth. If the network is in auto and connected to phone via Bluetooth the text to watch phone number will come through. I'm guessing to get calls or texts to the watch phone number the network must be on. I'm curious if yours behaves as mine does. I have had the note 4 since January and its getting pretty cluttered with stuff plus add the lollypop update to the mix. I have tried a hard rest on the watch and think I'm going to do the same to the phone to clean house and try from scratch. Thanks again.
I had a very disappointing experience with my Tab S6 (LTE version) today. What happened is that we lost the internet connection, apparently the cable company had a neighborhood-wide outage. So, I figured, no big deal. I turned on the hotspot on my Tab S6 and on my laptop connected to the hotspot (instead of my home WiFi).
Well, no luck. Windows kept saying, “no internet”. I spent an hour trying to figure out why. Finally, I found the problem: my laptop was connecting to my Tab S6 and from there to my home WiFi… which had no internet. When I turned WiFi off, it then connected to mobile data and I had internet on my laptop. It's funny because on the Tab S6 I could browse the web just fine, it was clearly using mobile data. But the hotspot was connecting to WiFi. BTW, by the time I had it figured out, the internet outage was over. ?
I noticed that on my old ZTE Axon 7, when I turn on the hotspot, it automatically turns off WiFi. It’s very disappointing that the Tab S6 doesn’t do that, it would have saved me an hour of intense frustration.
It’s really silly, when you think about it. Why would I need my hotspot to connect to my WiFi? On my laptop, I can connect directly to my WiFi, I don’t need the Tab S6’s hotspot feature for that. Hotspot should by default connect to mobile data.

First - Turning WIFI off would have been the thing that saved you an hour of intense frustration.
But in all seriousness, WIFI could be useful to share a connection with something like a VPN active, surely? For example, I remember sharing a VPN connection through my OG Tab S with my Xbox so I could shop on the Turkish Xbox store, would prefer to do that via WIFI than Data, obviously, especially since I didn't have an LTE OG Tab S. I do remember having to have multiple apps to achieve sharing WIFI then.
So ultimately, I'd personally prefer they didn't disable WIFI whilst using Hotspot, better to have more options than less for when the occasion calls.

Ahem, I said the system should turn off WiFi automatically because in the vast majority of cases, people would want the mobile hotspot to connect to mobile data. I didn't say "disable". I too like to have options.
Oh, and BTW, your scenario wouldn't work on the Tab S6 - it would connect you to WiFi bypassing the VPN. Duh!

Meh. Disable, turn off - Same principle.
You're right, though - I remember now, that's why I mentioned needing multiple apps. Android natively won't share a VPN as far as I recall (it's been a while). You need another app that enables sharing VPN.
