Hey all.
I'm looking for an upgrade in sound from my Asus Zenfone 2. I like that in the app store, there's an app that allows you to turn on the HiFi DAC of the V10, something I'd use often, as my phone is my main music listening source.
But I'm torn between shipping an unlocked version from the States for a V10 and paying $1000CAD, or waiting and seeing if I can get the G5 on contract here in Canada, and saving a bit. The smaller battery of the G5 concerns me a bit, and I would get the B&O HiFi DAC add on for the G5, so which way to go? I like the second screen on the V10, but they are doing similar on the G5, and the G5 comes with M. Would I even get a M upgrade for the V10 here in Canada? I also like that the V10 is rootable right now, as I have a love of V4A, so that's a plus for the V10.
A little advice from those who are considering upgrading, or who are sticking with the V10? Please.
I've been reading, and it seems the version that I can get in Canada of the V10, the dual-sim version, can't be rooted yet. Is this true? Because I'm a basshead, I use Aurisonics Kicker IEM's, and crave bass. That's why I wanted to root. To get V4A. But, if root is a long way off, or not at all, that may sway my decision. So, can anyone comment on the bass response of the V10 with say, PowerAmp Alpha? I would be using the app to turn the DAC on and off in the app store, so I would be using the DAC/Amp all the time while listening to music, and turn it off when I'm done.
So, is root possible for the future, or is the bass response good with PowerAmp?

I haven't used Poweramp on this device but for the first part of your question, I bought the dual sim V10 model 961N (HK) version in Vancouver and root is already available for this device.
REALLY!! Can you post a link? I'll order the phone today if that's the case.

No problem. There's a lot of helpful people with this model so you're all good. The phone is so much better with root and also now, we're able to unlock the bands on the phone too. Good luck. Hope u enjoy it.
Got the AT&T version a couple months ago. Bass is great with PA. Overall sound is wicked especially with the DAC app from Play Store. Although mine isn't rootable yet. Doesn't make a difference. This phone is AWSOME.

Hello All,
I wanted to buy an SIII but I went to the store and listened to the musice through my apple in the ear headphones. The volume is not quite loud enough for me. I checked the settings and noticed that the were all maxed. My Iphone4 is louder but I want the SIII any network version here in the UK.
I also looked at the HTC One Audio Beats which was perfect, but I really want the SIII.
The audio limiter rules in Europe go against me because of my disabiltiy and I just wish there was a way to make it louder to cover my hearing loss. I wear hearing aids but take them to and use headphones to listen to music.
Do I write off the SIII or is there someway around it?
Grateful to anyone who might be able to help.?

Since you're posting on XDA, I'm assuming you'll be rooting your phone. If so, then yes there is a mod that will greatly increase the phone's volumes for earpiece, speaker, headset, headphones and dock. Mod is located here. It is a popular mod for those of us who prefer a much louder phone, and this fix is even baked into some custom ROMs.

I don't know what you mean by "will this root work here in the UK". Are you planning on buying just the regular International version of the Galaxy S3? Answer to question 2 is yes.

There's a mod called GVM 1.0.2 for S3 Int, if you're rooted. If you root and want warranty work, you need to reset counter to 0 with triangle away and flash stock Rom using mobile odin, then del your root apps like mobile odin etc

Just ordered the S3 blue, to be delivered tomorrow.... I am going to need some hand hold here to blow that volume hack so whatever you please do not shout at me. I read up on the mod zip file but it left me slightly confused.... Are there any step by step instructions on how to apply the rom?
All the best

Well you first have to achieve root and flash clockworkmod ecovery.
From recovery you will be able ro install roms and tweaks like the "extremely loud volume hack" you need.
You can start from here for rooting ang flashing CWM

Follow instruction precisely

Change the kernel to either Siyah or franco.Kernel
They have the voodoo sound in it which can like boost the headphone/earphone volume by a lot.
Another way is to use a headphone amp but seriously using the above method is super loud already.

Welcome to the S3
Hello all again....
Well I got my S3 today and wow what a great phone!... The ear volume is that loud that I can actually hear with my hearing aids in, I am totally made up with it. :good:
The only thing is the ringer sound. Before I consider root it, does anyone know where I can get a Old Style Telephone ring ring tone from? Preferably volume maxed?
I cannot hear the supplied tone because of their frequency and the old style ring ring always seems to work best.
I am happy to pay for the ringtone.
Very happy with you guys, thanks for helping me out. Guess I just have to leave all my bought itune songs in the bin

So I'm pretty much positive this is an issue with the app but since amazon doesn't seem to want to address it...
I recently started using amazon prime and downloaded the app to my T-Mobile v10 so I could try out the streaming music service.
The app cuts off the first 7-15 seconds of every single song. Even if you hit the back skip button it only starts again at the same place. You can drag the slider to the beginning of a song and hear it just fine but who wants to do that with every song??
There are no problems at all using it on my note 2.
It seems to be specific to the v10. If you filter the reviews at the play store to only v10 users you'll see a lot of them with this problem.
Anyone else here using the app and/or have any idea how to make it work?
I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'll probably find more help here than from Amazon!

I just installed the app to test. Skips the beginning just like yours. Weird.

It's horrible and I can't really think of anything to change to fix it. I'm hoping some random app update will fix it but I wish there was something I could do. (other than use my note 2 on wifi!)

I noticed you'd happening on Power Amp as well. I even cleared the cache.
Works fine d for me
My Amazon Music does the same (on Bluetooth) and kinda drives me nuts. Seems to work OK on other music apps however.
Open the app, go to settings and send in a complaint via the "Contact customer support" link in settings. Maybe if we get enough complaints they will look at this. Must be some weirdness with the app and the V10. Does yours skip on headphones too? I know mine does on BT, but I'd have to check headphone playback.
Same problem here, just tried it. Google Play Music and Spotify Premium doesn't exhibit this behavior. Definitely seems to be app related. I'll file a bug report.
Yeah. Same here. Headphones or Bluetooth and only this app.
I'll try filing a report too.
Considering it's a paid service it'd be pretty annoying if they decided to ignore a whole line of phones. (new ones at that!)

v10 issue here as well
Same issue here! I've got a ticket open w/ Amazon for the same issue (which they have already closed once without resolving.) I have Verizon as my carrier. I grew to love Amazon Music on my S4. When I upgraded to the LG V10 that love went out the window. Could it be an OS issue? I'm on 5.1.1 build LMY47V Software Version VS99011B. Seems unlikely since it happens across carriers, and each carrier probably has its own software load. Not sure...but entirely frustrating! Here's a link to the same complaints on Amazon Prime Forums as well: goo.gl/4iAVjS

Now that this phone is officially released, has anyone found a way to root it? I have the sprint version which is the ls992 and I want to root it. I saw a one click tool online but it's not in XDA so I don't think it's reliable. Thanks for any help

By the way, in case any of you were wondering, I'm coming from the LG g3 (ls990). I like the smaller screen, the fingerprint reader is very responsive, I dislike the moved volume buttons, dislike the audio jack being moved to the top although it DOES sound better, actually a good bit clearer. It feels really good in my hand but does get hotter than the LG g3. The material on the back has a good grippy feel almost, it's not particularly slick which is a good thing. I could hardly use my g3 with the stock back because of how slick it was. The cameras are PHENOMENAL. All of the picture modes provided are outstanding and not just gimmicks in my opinion.

JCase claims to have a root method already but refuses to release it... even with his rep I doubt his claims.
If the bootloader is unlockable, it should be relatively easy to do.
I also have the Sprint version. The only thing that's keeping me from getting it rooted so far is the inability to get it into Fastboot to flash a custom recovery.
I've documented my findings so far here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g5/how-to/bootloader-unlock-root-ive-t3350356

Well bad news from Tmobile - I currently have the sprint ls990 LG G3 and decided to make the move to tmobile for the G5 because I was sick of locked bootloaders. The tmobile g5 does indeed have an unlockable bootloader however, LG seems to be using a custom bootloader on the G5 that wont flash anything that isnt verified. Tmobile's G5 already has a TWRP build and noone can flash it because of dm-verity. Essentially the tmobile appears to have an unlocked bootloader but lg has changed the bootloader so that it cant flash anything. That's the current status and I should add that I have not been able to try anything for myself because my phone hasnt arrived yet. But if that is the case on T-Mobile, then it's going to be even harder on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.
its locked but there's an unlock switch in the developers' options.
I came from lg g3 as well. Massive improvement and loving it so far.I have it thru verizon. Hoping for root soon that's all I really care about.

It saves them a lot of time and money. Any noob able to root and unlock could accidentally flash the complete wrong system and recovery resulting in a pretty hard brick and if they allow rooting and unlocking then they would be kind of obligated to help them fix it. Even if they said it voided the warranty then they would still get tons of calls complaining.

That just doesn't make any sense though, if I buy a laptop, and or a desktop, and I install Linux and then it blows up, they're just going to tell me LOL sorry too bad. Same thing should go for phones. But if something unrelated to the software messes up, I would expect them to cover it no matter what, just like on my laptop, while I am not running the original OS software that came with it, they honor the warranty for the headphone jack breaking. Because that has absolutely nothing to do with it. The point is, if I buy something it is mine, I should have an absolute one-hundred-percent administrator privileges on any device that I can purchase. If not I need to get an extremely heavy discount for not truly owning the device.
But this is getting off topic, the whole point is that we really need to get the G5 rooted, because it honestly would be the best Android device out there if it was rooted.
Imagine this thing in running cm13, it will be perfect. Good camera, type c, replaceable battery so that way it doesn't have a finite life span, micro SD for super music users like myself. And upgrade modules , it's the future.

I think it mostly has to do with them not wanting the end user to be able to modify the device to get around things like paid hotspots and such. Carriers like sprint that have unlimited data but a paid by the GB hotspot plan potentially lose lots of money off of users getting it free with root. Also you probably have an ISP that rents you a cable modem. Those things are locked down and while you can buy your own - their locked down one, if modified can potentially increase speeds or bypass a meter. I think that ISPs (including cell carriers) like complete control so they can grab every penny and make it difficult to escape their grasps. Once again these are just my assumptions so I could be horribly wrong.

No. Does not appear so.
Only if u were already rooted/unlocked/ with TWRP and flashed the Update.zip stock rom already posted. Then u can flash Magisk and root works fine.
Upgrading via OTA or LG Official restore tool (Bridge) re-locks down everything as its reflashing it to pure stock.
I would assume that current means/exploits have not worked on this new version.
The V10 is largely abandoned...(cause V20 been out a while now and soon to the come the V30.
Far as I can tell, only 1 maybe 2 people working on this phone in their spare time....soo....Don't hold your breath.
If a rooted device is very important to you, other than waiting, one could buy a used V10 (or V20) that hasn't been updated off Swappa for pretty cheap. Or, sometimes folks sell already modded/rooted devices. (thats how i got both my V10's).

So I'm just curious. What percentage of you guys would buy an unrootable phone and what percentage would not.

I have never cared about root and thus never rooted my phones, so yeah I don't really care if a phone is rootable or not

I don't find root really all that necessary anymore and haven't bothered since I've had the V20. So not worried about it at the moment with the V30.
like a few around here I'm getting the V30 (most likely) for the hardware, and I'll need root for V4A. so yeah, no root, no purchase. period. I'll keep my htc10 or something.
I won't buy a phone I don't own, and that means root. From Day 1.
Root for me is mandatory I have never owned a phone I couldn't root or that had a locked boot-loader.
I want a V30, but nope, gotta wait till the US998 AND a full bootloader unlock is released.
These phones are far too expensive, for me to NOT to have full control.
If I want a locked device, at $800, I'll buy a iPhone 8+ with better software, battery life, processor, ram management etc.
Google and Qualcomm are crazy with this new locked down policy

I think the real question is, why the hell is anyone on here, who don't root or custom rom? and the first 2 posts you get, are both them lol.....

Why do you (not you specifically but the collective that seems to be here at XDA) all whine about cellphone cameras not turning out photos you like when you should all be rooting your phones and writing new noise reduction and sharpening algorithms instead of complaining about something you all clearly don't understand properly?
I come here to get general information on phones and new program ports. My contribution back is to maybe try to explain what the heck is going on with cellphones' cameras since for a board all high and mighty on getting the most of their phones but don't seem to understand the underpinnings of something they all want to complain about and probably don't have the ability to change if they really wanted to. Yes, I understand rooting, how it's done and why it's done. I've been with Android since the G1 days. At some point though, it has gotten to the point where I don't really see a need for myself to root my device anymore. My V20 worked. My V30 so far seems to work.

Well it's a thread about v30 which I have been following for a while. The question was asked if we care for rooting or not which means he was expecting answers from both sides, and being on xda doesn't require love for rooting. So these are my reasons to be here cheers

Not on the carrier version.
Wtf that's messed up
Couldn't care less
Just bought the Verizon V30. My plan is to wait until the unlocked version is released and the developers have a chance to get the bootloader unlocked, create custom ROMS, etc., and then (maybe) sell the V30 and get an unlocked version.
This is my first unrooted phone since my first HTC. The only thing that I really miss is the ability to create nandroid backups. I thought that I would miss the ad blocker more than I do, but since most of my apps are ad free it hasn't been that big of a deal.
I say "maybe" to getting an unlocked phone is that I don't want to give up WiFi calling, and so far having an unrooted phone is nowhere near as frustrating as I thought it would be. I also thought that having a silver phone instead of a black phone would be annoying, but it actually looks great.

Agree 100%, everyone Android I have owned has been rooted, and running a custom ROM. I have had a few iPhone's over the years and they were stock not JB, and it's actually not a bad phone stock, with the Ad Blocking apps, etc... But iOS is too locked down for me.
After using a non-rooted phone for a year, my answer is a strong HELL-NO! I will never own an unrooted phone again. I plan to get a V30, but I will wait until the bootloader is unlocked and I can root it with Magisk. Locked bootloaders are for iOS users.
