Ya but can you flash custom Roms???
You can also root by flashing twrp in download mode from Odin & then flashing supersu in reocvery

I'd recommend wiping the phone and then flashing the stock rom ( or cyanogenmod for fun ). Make a backup though since this will delete everything. This helped my issues, just factory reset and then find the newest rom on sammobile. Good luck bud☺

Did you have any issue when installing SuperSU from TWRP on this firmware? I've tried it twice on my girlfriends phone and it gets stuck on the Samsung logo screen. Tried doing a factory reset to clear everything and still no luck.

What version of TWRP, and more importantly, what version of SuperSU? I would recommend this version of supersu: https://download.chainfire.eu/932/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip and instead of factory resetting, after you install supersu in TWRP, just clear cache and dalvik

I tried with both versions 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 of TWRP. I tried with whatever version of SuperSU is included in TWRP. I tried to install it when TWRP detects that SuperSU is not installed and it asks you if you would like to install it. Perhaps this is a known issue and I am just not aware of it? I will try downloading the recommended version above and flashing the .zip in TWRP manually this weekend.
Thanks all for your input!

When you flash the rom, it will not automatically wipe data. I have set it to not do that since it put me in a boot loop with that set. Do not flash the rom you posted. That will completely revert you back to stock. My rom is that exact rom just deodexed and rooted with busybox installed. No other modifications made at all.

Are you rooted already? If not, root your phone first and get s-off...but assuming you have that done and already have a custom recovery (from rom manager), you just flash it via clock work recovery.
I think I'll keep your rom on my SD card as a backup after what I went through on Das BAMF
As a quick update, my internet is poking along right now... but this is taking twice as long as I thought it would since that dumb verizon golf game in itself is 139 MB...that app by itself almost doubled the size of the rom.
OK that method of flashing is what I though I'd have to do... So there is NOTHING removed from this ROM, right?

Hi,
I am rooted on my S3 and all is good. However, my Father also has an S3 and last week he was talked into rooting it by his Grandson. All went well but long story short he was not happy with having a rooted phone so has decided to remove root. He has now done so by following various guides. He used Triangle away which he says went successfully and has used Odin to put the latest stock firmware on the phone which again he says went successfully. I was not there when he did all this but phone seems all good.
Except one thing. He has tried to install a couple of apps he had before rooting. Barclays bank app and Sky Go app. After installation these apps are saying they will not work on a rooted phone, but it's not rooted any more. I have booted into recovery using Volume down, power and home buttons and it says custom firmware / rom, I can't remember exact wording, but it says no. Also in the phone menu where a rooted phone says modified in device status it says normal or whatever it should say. Again can't remember exactly but all looks like no root present.
Anyone got any ideas on this? As I am rooted on my S3 and never un-rooted it yet, I do not know if he should have done something else. Will he have to root again to run triangle away or anything else. Or can this be fixed as the phone is at present?
Thanks for any help guys.
Cheers, Rich

One basic question..are you still able to go into recovery..vol up+power+home..if yes you are still rooted...you need to find your stock firmware and flash it via odin
check if it was a stock firmware your father flashed orcustom ROM o.follow this guide to do it again

Sounds like maybe triangle away didnt properly remove the count, was the firmware he downloaded the official one for his phone? Was it previously branded or anything like that?

Hi,
He has superSu on the phone. Presumably it has downloaded from the play store when restoring the phone. However, he tried to uninstall it which just removed the updates. Couldn't go any further. It is now asking for updates which he has done. But when he tries to launch Super SU it says no apps configured and won't go any further. I think the fact that super su is on the phone, the apps are thinking it is rooted. I am doing this all over the phone so can't see what's happening.
I'm wondering if the way to go now would be another factory reset and when restoring everything, try not to let play store instal super su. Would this be the way to go, or can we get super su off the phone without a reset?
Cheers, Rich
Try uninstalling super su with titanium backup. Then factory reset. Are you sure you have flashed a stock ROM and not a rooted one. This doesnt sound right.

Hi,
Trying to do these things with him over the phone ain't easy. I may just go and get the phone and do it myself.
He does have supersu on the phone and it is working, well it's installed anyway but obviously does not do the root things as the phone is un-rooted. There is an option in supersu settings to remove root but will this work as the phone is not rooted? Question is how on earth do I remove supersu. Do i need to re-root and remove it that way?

Have you tried flashing a stock ROM from TWRP?
-------edit----------
I just remembered. This used to happen on the Note 2 at times. If you're booting and get the Samsung splash screen, try going to TWRP and doing a Factory Reset a couple times. No idea if it will work, but with the Note that would usually clear whatever block existed and allow the ROM to boot past the splash screen. Good luck.

If it exists, it would basically be that ROM stuck into a .zip file which could be flashed from TWRP. I'm not sure it exists, was just browsing the Dev thread for you to see if anyone posted it. There is a version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292707 , but I'm not familiar with Loki enough to say whether or not you have it.

If Odin isn't working for you, a solution might be had via TWRP since you can still get into the recovery. If you flash your ROM or try your backup, does the install complete or does it crash? Have you wiped cache, dalvik, system, and data before the flash?

Sorry, just saw your OP where you said you wiped and tried. If I were you my next step would be trying a different ROM just to see if you can get something booting.

Trying again. First wiping wiped cache, dalvik, system, and data , then restoring back up. I've tried this multiple times before hopefully it works this time. But generally when i hit reboot system afterward it just hangs at the Samsung Galaxy IV boot screen and does nothing.

Well went to restart the phone and now its stuck on a Samsung logo with a unlocked icon thats says custom underneath it and just sits there.
Suddenly I cannot flash ROMs. I've downloaded, and have tried to flash, 2 ROMs. They are downloaded correctly, too. I've downloaded them multiple times as well.
When I try to flash, it gives me a bunch of prop errors and then gives me an error that the ROM cannot be flashed. I am able to restore backups, though.
I'm not sure what's causing this, as it happened out of the blue. A few days ago I flashed a ROM fine but reverted back to my original ROM because I did not like the other ROM.
I always wipe data and wipe system, and have even wiped cache. Really I'm at a loss her so any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the older Casual root methods the installed recovery was for the international Note 2. and caused some issues on our VZW version.
As was mentioned, install the newest TWRP or CWM and you should be fine.
Also.... remember flashing between a 4.3 ROM and 4.2 and earlier have some differences. Make sure to really read and reread the OP to any ROM you are flashing as most have subtle differences in the recommended method to flash and recovery suggested.

Have you tried just flashing a new kernel? there was some issues with a few versions of sabre kernel.... get the newest one or Perseus or something else.
Install the newest version of your recovery (CWM or TWRP)
Boot into recovery.
Clear dalvik/cache
Flash your kernel
Clear dalvik and cache again (just because thats what i do, no idea if its needed)
Test your installed ROM or just install a new ROM following the instructions in the OP of the ROM thread...
If there is no install instructions, I always:
Make a nandroid backup!
Clear dalvik/cache

I'm using Saber's overclocked one. I will grab another kernal and give it a shot and report back.
Got this fixed by switching to another kernel.
So I found another thread like this but couldn't seem to find an answer. I am new to rooting and wanted to put the viper rom on my phone. But after I install it the phone just keeps rebooting, it will get to viper and then flash my lockscreen and go straight to a reboot. So steps I did to get the rom.
First I went to fast boot and fastboot flash boot boot.img. Then I went into recovery (I have 4ext) activated smart flash and factory restored/wiped my phone. Lastly I installed the zip file from recovery window. I have s-on but that shouldn't matter the way I did it right? I am not sure I did everything right but I have done smooth criminal on my phone and that worked fine, just that my wifi radio stopped working which is weird. Any help would be appreciated I am a noob =]

In ROM thread it says if you have problems flashing, go to recovery and flash ROM again. So try that, don't wipe anything, just flash zip and see if that helps

I tried messaging viper the guy who posted the lastest update on here but I doubt he will get back to me, any other suggestions? Does it have to do with a kernal or something?

Did you check md5sum when you downloaded the ROM? Maybe the zip is corrupted

No I havent but I have tried two different zips so I doubt that is it
Try some other ROM. If the phone boots fine, try Viper again, but don't flash boot.img before, just wipe and flash from recovery. And make sure smartflash is turned on
