Anyone who has found a way to root a samsung galaxy s6 edge, loosing fingerprint, and then getting it back by whatever means, being a kernel, or a Xposed Framework mod? Anyone?
Just a little information about my device:
Samsung galaxy s6 edge(SM-925F)
Norwegian sim, British CSC
I didn't know that rooting can make the s6 edge lose the fingerprint functionality. I rooted my edge with CF-Auto-Root, with stock android 6.0.1 and didn't have any issue with the fingerprint at all.

I've heard that people who rootet and lost knox also lost the fingerprint scanner. You still use the fingerprint scanner this day?

I think this doen't apply to 925F, if i remmember that was for W8 or another model (I THINK, I'M NOT SURE)
I thought root only stopped the fingerprint scanner in 5.1.1?
Root originally broke the finger Pringt scanner in 5.0.1 on release, in 5.1.1 rooting damaged the fingerprint scanner app settings which has now been fixed by most devs on their roms. I'd suggest you do a full update with Odin official 6.0.1 firmware and go from there. I just transfered for 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 without a single issue.

Since the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge have identical hardware (other than the battery) can we expect cross-compatibility of things like custom kernels and custom stock ROMs?
For example, I own a Galaxy S6 Edge and there's this fancy custom kernel made by a boss dev for the regular S6, do you think it'd be a breeze to be ported over or would it just support the S6 Edge without the need for a port?
Likely Yeah

I don't take responsibility if it doesn't work, but I'd say it's very likely it will work. It's the same phone with a curved display and the edge feature switched on. Hell, I had to root mine using the normal S6 file since the S6 Edge file bricked it.

Hey there , just a small question real quick. I see that you said you have rooted your s6 edge , hows your experience after rooting it or flashed any custom rom? also which method did you use for rooting the device ? thanks

The experience isn't much different, I really only rooted it so I could get Titanium Backup and restore all my apps and data. There are no custom ROMs yet nor does Xposed work yet as TWRP isn't out for it yet. But I used Odin 3.10.6 and flashed the G920T CF Auto-root file.
Im on 5.1.1 G625i LATAM 64gb. Using stock everything, not rooted.
If i got it right there's 2 types of root:
1. Tripping KNOX: No issues but increasing counter.
2. Not tripping KNOX: disables fingerprint and call sound, but there's a fix for call issue.
Is these information correct? Also, is there any link to go on the #1 (tripping knox)? This forum is kinda weird, stuff are not that organized, can't find stuff easily.
think so
Any1 else?
SM-G925I on 5.1.1 stock?
sadly I believe there is only one option for you. which is CF-AutoRoot.
AutoRoot flashes your phone with the root binary and will trip Knox.
The non-Knox tripping option which you alluded to is called PingPongRoot and utilizes an exploit that was patched between 5.0.2 and 5.1.1.
There is a third option but it is only available on the T-Mobile variant of the S6E. (SM-G925F I believe).
Anyone please verify
knox and fingerprint

join the question. if ill give up knox, fingerprint will work perfectly?
and if ill do root without tripping knox will fingerprint wont work at all forever??
i have OTA updated to 5.1.1
Hello,
I just got s S6 Edge SM-G925F, It has already android 5.1.1 version with kernel: version: 3.10.61-5447113. I would like to root the device using the pingpong tool without tripping Knox and I read that is not working on android 5.1.1.
My question is: if i downgrade from android 5.1.1 to 5.0.1 is it possible to root the device without tripping knox ?
Another question is : Am I gonna trip knox if after I root the device after I downgrade to android 5.0.1 and install TWRP for example in order to flash another ROM ?
A word of caution, downgrading from 5.1.1 to 5.0.2 is possibly ill-advised, and not for Knox reasons, according to sources .
Apparently the bootloader introduced with the 5.1.1 update takes offence to trying to be downgraded and throws the phone into a bootloop.
however, you are in a privileged position, running the F variant, there is a way to do pretty much whatever you want without worrying about Knox.
see this thread for details.

Thanks a million for the information, I am still not sure if I will root it because I like the fingerprint scanner functionality.
HI Guys as my name suggest i am not that great on technical.
I am buying my son a S6 Edge only on the condition that i install monitoring software on the phone so that i can access it at all times.
To utilise this software to capture all messages whats app etc the phone needs to be rooted and this is the only reason i need to root and will not be doing anything else to the phone.
I recently rooted a note 4 and had all sorts of issues however did manage to get it back to factory and resolve using Odin and flashing stock.
On the s6 EDGE there are a number of sites that say use pingpongroot or oneclickroot or Kingo Android root. Can anyone advise the best root for a S6 EDGE and any complications i may face later having rooted it.
Cheers
Gifford

just remeber knox counter gets tripped by the rooting.. so no samsung pay etc
You should say what android version are you using, as you can root and keep warranty on 5.0.2, but lose warranty on 5.1.1
Hi, i wanted a little help from the pro guys out there.
I recently bought a Galaxy s6 (sm g920f). It was on Android 6.0.1 and i should be able to upgrade to Android 7.0. However, the software update button doesn't respond i.e it doesn't even open at all like no response at all. Then i used Smart Switch. No help there too. Then i decided to update it manually(my first try). Downloaded the firmware from Sammmobile for g920f and when everything was ready then i discovered in the download mode that the device is G920P, not G920F. I almost flashed it. Then i went to check if there were updates for the firmware of G920P. I found them and i discovered that most of the G920P were the American models of Sprint and Virgin etc but i couldn't find any sign of the Sprint/Virgin apps or logo etc. Then it occurred to me that the phone might be rooted but my brother also has an s6 which is rooted and samsung health doesn't work on it because of it being rooted. But my Samsung health app works just fine. I downloaded Root checker and it says "root hasn't been installed properly". So now i'm confused as to which firmware should i download from SammMobile and will it affect my root? If the phone is of Sprint(which i think it is) will i be unable to use my local SIM.?
Thanks in advance.
