Hey guys, I have one totally noob question, and probably there won't be an easy answer(s), because of specific situation and complexity of Android development in general. Anyway, here's the deal; I have recently bought Sony Xperia T with "broken" software, and as many times in past I have successfully repaired it using Flashtooll. But, here things are getting weird: my unit is prototype (seller didn't told me that), and when I flash Xperia T original firmware (any version) everything works well except microphones (main and headset mic), same goes for all custom ROMs for Xperia T. I cannot use it for calls, camera, sound recording etc. When I try to record sound all I getting is some kind of noise. And that is all about stock firmware. The only ROM that can make my phone run as it supposed to is CM10, 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (flashing stock 4.1.2 resulting with the same problem with microphones). Just in testing purposes I have flashed firmware of Xperia TX, which is virtually the same phone, with some minor cosmetic differences., and as a result I got WORKING microphones, everything except camera (every single firmware works the same way, from ICS to Jelly Bean 4.3). Totally weird. All Xperia TX custom ROMs is working the same way as Xperia TX stock firmwares. And I continued testing: I have flashed CM12.1 made for Xperia TX (everything working except camera), then I flashed Xperia T CM12.1 kernel over Xperia TX CM12.1 ROM, and my Xperia T got the same problem with microphones.
So, here's my question after long intro: what can be cause of such a strange misbehave? Is problem within drivers, libraries, framework, or something else? Maybe different type of microphone due to prototype version? If so, how CM10 made for it works well? I'm so confused... I have basic understanding how Android system works, and I just want someone to point me in the right direction, so I can start digging deeper. Do you guys think that I can somehow put microphone drivers of Xperia TX in Xperia T ROM, or something else? I know it's a noob question, but I really want to make this thing work. I am eager to do that (just for curiosity's sake), no matter how long I should read or learn. I'm open for all kind of suggestions. Thank you in advance!

Your best hope to get a running adb shell. From there you can see what devices are being detected, what drivers are loading, etc.

best luck to get what you want
Thank you guys for your answers. I have no idea where to start from when it comes to advanced Android modding, so that's why I asked for little help. I don't need Xperia T as a daily driver, I got it very cheaply just to try to repair it, so the main reason why I'm writing these lines is to satisfy my curiosity and learn more about Android OS. Thanks once again and I hope someone will have something more to say about this topic
wait, ur unit is prototype??
the guy who sold u must be from Sony’s smart phone department

Hi guys,
i hear that the Arc has droid 2.3, an that x10 will be able to get it, but when an how? also is the tracker ID included in this?
i use it often along with my camera, mediascape and that isn't a big for me in any case, as i've seen the basic droid media system and i prefer it(looks nicer to me) i've looked here, an on sony website, but when i do an update it just tells me im up to date, and i got a global brand x10i, so its generic.
Unfortunately , maybe cause of how im searching for it, i can only find chats about 2.3 an ports from other based phones and not SE port. Im a bit out of touch, been awhile since i done flashing an all that, so any information or direction would be grand. Thanks in advance
official 2.3.3 will come out late q2 or early q3
Hello people, Merry Christmas
This is my first post here...been here from past 4 weeks or so...
i recently got my dads used up x10 mini...done a few thing so far.
Thing is i am about to make a new rom not entirely new...few bits from here and there. Few days ago i found an thread where a guy asked if he can replace the stock blue waves background , i didnt bookmark that page and i searched all of XPERIA X10 Mini Android Development sub forum did'nt find it here
so people how do i replace that image.
I read a little bit i have to replace that stock image with ours which was located somewhere.........
AND people my another question what is a kernel ?
what i understood is it is a piece of software which directly interacts with hardware just like drivers in our pcs
My Works so far
1] GingerDX |v017| Gingerbread 2.3.7 - found that it cam is not as good compared to what was with stock ROM, power consumption was high, and i personally didnt like some components of interface.
2] Next was MiniCM7-2.1.6 Gingerbread 2.3.7/CM7.2 - same as previous camera was crappy, power consumption was a little less compared to first case and interface was good liked that over scrolling effect and loads of other features [i just wished my x10 mini turned into x10] but the main PROBLEM was AWD launcher kept crashing every other time i pressed home key
3]then, installed nAa-06 kernel and again flashed Next was MiniCM7-2.1.6 Gingerbread 2.3.7/CM7.2
in between my phone got struck 2-3 times at SE screen. First time i really was really scared it was my dads phone and he would have kicked me out of the house if he found that i ruined his phone.
4] then tried a simple 2.1 rom was very basic.
Atlast reverted back to stock rom now in the process of creating my own rom.Wish me Luck !
Thanks for the information! It's always great to see people add to the choice and quality of our phone. I hope people show their appreciation for your work!
When you need testers etc. just let us know, I'm available.
For the ROMS, some things I like about the stock ROM are; how smooth and clean the UI is, no ROM yet does this as well in my view, everything on the stock ROM works perfectly especially the camera which is amazing (while simple). I admit that the newer features in Android (and Cyanogen) are too good to leave behind though, as well as the better memory management in 2.3 etc.
Good luck!
thanks buddy...still didn't find answers to my ques
1] How to replace the stock blue waves background in the 2.1.1.c.0.0 stock rom ?
2] What is a kernel ?
i think u should edit framework-res.apk /system/framework/
Hey,
Im really thinking of switching from stock ICS on my Ray to either CM9,10 or 10.1. That being said I use my phone for calls, messagins, browsing and because of its CAMERA. The phone still has warranty so I am a bit hesitant especially because Im not so sure camera is close to being any good on CM mods compared to stock.
I got a question, more like a friendly request... Could anyone with the following versions post pictures taken on his Ray with any of the Cyanogenmod versions listed above?
Id be really grateful... For recording, as far as I know, all the CM versions record only 460p but I guess I could live with that...
Many thanks!
Hey all,
I've tried to trawl all I can, but im coming up short, so please bear with me.
Just got a XTZ last week, a SGP 321 (16GB LTE) with 10.1.1.A.1.307 pre loaded.
What is the lastest FW/ROM that is available for this unit? and what are the practical benefits?
What are the best custom roms from your experience??
I've got a Xperia Z and a HTC one, both running custom ROMs (both stock based), so im familiar with the general benefits, but just want to know what has been developed for far for the XTZ?
thanks

I've tried 2 custom roms so far, Free Xperia CM10.1 and P.A.C. ...and I've gone back to Sony stock each time
The most obvious issue many complain about is the over-sensitive touch screen. Sony have fixed this in their latest roms (you have the latest for yours) but it's still an issue in custom roms. Causes things like zooming on web pages when you are just trying to scroll, and can drive you mad when trying to place the cursor when editing text. Those with WiFi only tablets (311/312) will also lose GPS.
I also found my tablet became very laggy after a while with the PAC ROM. Shame, I love having Pie - the permanent status/nav bar on stock is one thing that annoys me.
Altogether, I'd stick with stock for now untill Sony release an official 4.2.2 Rom and the devs can then incorporate the fixes from it for the above problems.

Most (if not all) custom ROMs here are based on the latest version of Android (currently 4.2.2) - that's one of the main attractions of using them.
Currently the stock Sony ROMs are based on 4.1.1. However, Sony are very close to releasing their own 4.2.2 ROM for the Tablet Z...but android 4.3 is already "out there"...so it goes on.
You'll always be a few steps behind with a Stock ROM, but for me the Stock ROM is good enough - apart from the permanent Navigation Bar (I prefer Pie).
By the way, if you look at recent posts in the CM10.1 Free Xperia thread looks like someone may have come up with a fix for the over-sensitive touch screen...I may be tempted to try a custom ROM again if the fix works

Thanks from me too! I'm still on the Stock ROM because of the alleged "zooming" issue. I would be great to hear again from you in case have some new information on this
I have flashed 10.3.1.A.0.244 on mine and I get random touches on the screen, if you tick show touches in dev options you might see them if yours does this too. It's really bloody annoying when you're in the middle of playing a game or browsing and the tab decides to open the task switcher or press the back button!

I thought it was phantom touches as well but the latest update fixed it for me. I tested it before the update though and the touches were coming from where my fingers were on the back of the device.

I didn't get them on the older fw. Only on this one. And I'm also getting it when I'm not even holding the tablet, just whilst laid flat on the table??

The ones I have tried
At the moment I am using CM 10.2 available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386786
Seems to work well, extremely fast. There are some problems mainly with the onscreen keyboard and chrome but this is not really an issue.
I have also tried PAC which in my mind has way too many options and functions that collide with each other. Some of the options you choose from different roms actually overwrite each other which causes problems. You can find the rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334047
CM 10.1 avalailable here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284469
This one works well. It is stable and quite fast. Didn´t have any problems with it. Used for a long time and changed to another rom simply because...well I got bored. For day to day use this is the one to have.
Please?
So, first of all - hey, guys, greetings from a fellow modder
I have an Xperia U that needs to work faster than it does at the moment It was fine during the first two months or so and then it started to slow down and now it needs a reboot every 2 days or so. There are two paths to making it better, I guess:
1. Tweaking the current (stock) ROM (Is there anywhere a complete list of Sony's bloatware that can be safely frozen (I've got TB Pro) without causing any force closes? That would be the greatest thing. (please don't recommend using Greenify instead :silly: )
2. What ROMs would you recommend from your U xperience so far? (Note that I need the illumination bar, the front cam, video recording and bluetooth to work properly)
Current firmware on it is: 6.1.1.B.1.10. It's rooted, but the bootloader is still locked
Cheers and thanks in advance!
If performance is your main concern then going back to Gingerbread is probably your best bet as everything ICS or higher will be heavier unless I'm mistaken.
If GB is too much of a step backwards then have a look in the Xperia U Development forum for one of the tweaked stock ICS roms -- most of them will be lighter-weight than the stock rom you're on at present.
As for removal of unnecessary things, I managed to get rid of all of the Facebook and Twitter stuff from mine without issue, albeit I'm on Jelly Bean. It may also be worth getting rid of some of the Google apps if you don't need them, or if you do need them it might be worth removing them from your system/app directory and installing them as user apps as you can then use Greenify (I know, you said you weren't interested) to hibernate them so they only run when you want them to.
If you have CWM installed, make a backup and start messing around, that way even if it goes wrong you can just boot back in to CWM and restore your original rom, problem solved.

Oh, boy, now I'm embarrassed that I haven't thought of that plan myself That's the way to do it, then. Just need to setup CWM and I'll get down to experimenting.
Yeah, Gingerbread is lighter on RAM usage, but I somehow feel that ICS and JB are more powerful when using them... Not talking just about the UI improvements. Can't quite explain But I feel the same way about both my Moto DEFY+ and this Sony U
Could you tell me what kind of a Jelly Bean ROM have you got on yours and what kind of bugs do you have to deal with?
Thanks for helping!

I know exactly what you mean -- I would love my phone to be faster but I just can't face going back to GB and now, having moved to JB I'm not sure I could even go back to ICS. It just seems wrong to have to "downgrade" anything to make it better.

I'm currently using kantry123's v7 version of pipi14's JB rom which has a number of fixes on top of the previous v6. It's nice to use but it definitely has issues;
LED bar doesn't work properly
Front camera doesn't work
Low memory causing launcher redraws and other issues
The front camera I don't need so it doesn't bother me, but the other two are an issue. I'm actively investigating fixes and workarounds for the LED bar to see if I can get it working a bit more to my liking. The low memory though, that's pretty much impossible to solve. I've managed to get around some of the problems by using the Experimental v8 kernel and tweaking the minfree values to be quite low but I'm still playing around to try to get the best result.
Whilst I'm very grateful for being able to run JB on my XU, I can't honestly say that I'm happy with the result. But with that said, I am a lot happier with this setup than I was with the stock ICS update that I got, which just made my phone horrible to use.
