Wow you're really going to make me flash back to stock/unroot just to reroot and show the screen shots? Alright I guess, check back in about ten minutes, I'll give you all the proof you need and then some

It is safe. I made a nandroid backup so once I'm done rerooting I can go right back to my current setup, I was just being cranky. It's no big deal I'll do everything and post the screen shots, hell if anything I like screwing around with this phone. But yeah it's safe, and like I said, I'll have those screen shots for you in about ten minutes or so if you want. I understand wanting to be safe, especially with the gf's phone, been in that situation before myself

Yeah I was thinking about doing a how-to-root thread for all skill levels for a while now, it's a question that seems to get asked daily and there's no real centralized place for people to find that info. Almost done setting everything up, I'll have those pics soon and probably write everything up in detailed step by step in a new thread

Yes, check the s5 unified development section, the SM-G900T can use any Cyanogenmod-based ROM made for klte (including Bliss)
Here is the thread for Bliss, remember, download the one for klte:

thank you for this I found it interesting to read. the only thing that I do not like about this is , it trips KNOX Counter. that is not good from what I understand. maybe there is a way with this root to kill KNOX altogether or remove KNOX. also a side question. is the bootloader locked in the T-Mopbile S5?

The bootloader is unlocked, and Knox is just a counter, telling you when you boot up that you're rooted. It can be reset along with a full unroot

There is no known way of resetting the Knox counter. It is like an efuse. However, tripping it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

it is funny you mention that. I have also seen those posts. and honestly it took me a few month of just reading and chatting with these folks on XDA to trust them, these people know or somewhat know what they are doing. if they make a mistake they do correct them in a day or two or right then and there if they notice it. some of these people on XDA are a bit cranky and some or not nice at all but most are real good people.

Rooted w/Working 4G (Pics)

Giving this it's own post- not because I feel special, but because it's so easy for this to get lost in the shuffle as it pertains to 4G connectivity after root. And I seem to be one of the few whose 4G is working.
I rooted my MoPho using [ACS] Photon 4G AIO root and lost 4G connectivity like so many others did. The next day, I restarted my phone and 4G was working flawlessly.
This is a screenshot showing my 4G connection actively working

This screenshot is just to show I am in fact rooted.
I don't have the knowledge some of you have when it comes to this Moto rooting stuff. It was easier to do on the Evo. Please don't ask me anything detailed cause the only thing I did after applying root was go to bed. I rebooted my phone sometime the next afternoon and 4G was working.
Honestly im happy yours is working but please....ask yourself this next time before posting....what am I developing?...please post matters like this in the general section.

Rooting with 4g works fine, it is unlocking the bootloader that is the issue.

It is responses like yours which make people feel extremely uncomfortable posting here. I actually posted this for the developers whom I couldn't post for earlier due to lack of screen capture app.
Thanks for being a jerk all the same!
ITT the OP doesn't realize the difference between rooting the system and unlocking the bootloader.
Troll? Lol funny. You can tell the kids that just joined xda. I mean seriously almost every forum on the site has just about the same rules! Tighten up seriously and post in the write sections! And its obvious who the real trolls are! The people that continuously post general topics and questions in the development section! If you arent developing anything by all means dont clutter up this section! Devs/themers all look in the general section, not just the dev section. So theres no need to post these types of threads!

Anyway [email protected] you're right. My sincere apologies I thought I was unlocking it. In order to install apps root; roms unlock. I thought rooting was providing the unlock.
I realized this from another thread.
Since I'm essentially not unlocked, only rooted, a mod can delete this thread. Again, my apologies.

Don't apologize dude, mistakes happen. People need to lighten up. Anyways, unless this post was moved it's in the right section. We need people working together we don't need forum police.
The rule of thumb is unless you are posting a ROM, MOD or Hack it doesn't go into the Development section. But seriously people, relax this isn't a big deal. Let's not kill the forums before anything really gets started.

yup, thats the tricky part. but there are a few files you can mess with to get it to boot. (cant remember which off the top of my head)
also, you might have to edit the kernel to use regular drivers since MIUI is build off of the AOSP builds of android and sense uses different drivers than AOSP android
sweet, all these ROMS have been sweet, but im tired of HTC's bull **** in regards to the kernals we need

Keep in mind that developers work hard in their spare time to share their work with everybody, free of charge. Being rude and disrespectful towards developers is what hinders development. If you were a developer, generously sharing your hard work with people, for free, how would you feel if someone made a post like this towards you? Would you feel motivated to continue development?
This type of attitude is not welcome on XDA; especially not around here. If you have a helpful suggestion, you are more than welcome to share it. Negative, flamatory posts could earn you an infraction. Please be respectful towards the developers, and your fellow XDA community.
Just a reminder: Devs are not here to cater to you.

Hey Eclipse, you want some help with this? What are you using as the source rom? I couldn't decide which one to port, but sensation's would probably be less broken once ported.. What did you do to get logcat wokring(I was having issues with this on the port I've been working on..) What have you done toward porting it so far, do you have a guide you're following? Help me not repeat the steps you already have
I already started making some of the needed changes to the boot.img, looking at it I am 100% sure that would be what keeps it from booting(at least the main reason)- I'm gonna have to play with it some more, but I think I can help you out bro
Send me a PM if you have anything specific that needs work.

It's actually quite a bit easier to root than an HTC phone.

I was really enjoying this post. Until I got to the part where it says "people don't like to help much in this forum". Now....I could go off on a huge rant. But I won't. Suffice it to say, a lot of people are willing to help here. But anyone who makes an account here should also be able to help themselves.

Help me Rask5, you're my only hope!
As has been mentioned by others, reading, searching, reading and then searching are your best bets before asking any questions here. After having read and searched, and reading and searching, if you still have a question, most here will give you as much help as they can possibly give. But if you come in here with troll suit on, and treat people with disrespect, well...

Believe it or not, Red and I can actually miss threads now and again. If people see a problem like this, perhaps they should just take the time to hit the report post button, rather than flaming or posting pointless pictures... What a novel idea...

the gs3 boot is the port btw.
Download Link to boot images
if this turns out successfully ill chip in some money ($2 sorry all i have until i get paid lulz) and give you 50% credit since the boot.img is what makes the rom boot.
Not necessarily...It will take a lot more than just a modified boot.img to get the rom to boot. I would know, because I ported Sense 5 to the S3.
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

What I mean is, you won't know what else is necessary until you flash.
Personally, I would not recommend following that guide. For things like this, it is too general to work well. It's better to do the init.rc step and then debug the rest of the boot process with logcat.
You will also need your proprietary blobs from TheMuppets github > jellybean branch > jewel.
I will post a modified boot.img later for you.

Once we get done building the Rom you would need to know it may not be stable at all and risk bricking your device like any other pre alpha Rom hahaha. If you're willing ill hit you up.

Yes, that can happen, but porting a proprietary UI is really time consuming even when you DO have the device

PSA: Kingo and vRoot determined to be malware [UPDATE 8 DEC]

MOD EDIT: Updated statement, not entirely true and currently under review. Hang tight, everything will be explained soon.
Remember the little discussion we had going in a thread here regarding vRoot, and i joked about vRoot was mining IMEIs? Well, apparently it's true . We have only ourselves to blame. I'm already rooted so i'll unlock my bootloader and install recovery. That way i don't need to root again if i screw something up. You "should" do the same if you're already rooted and don't care about losing Gracenote and X-Reality. Remember to backup your TA folder.
This application is currently under review, XDA is in contact, and working with Kingo to resolve security issues, however until certain guidelines are met links will not be allowed in xda.
Thank you.

What does this mean? What are they able to do with our IMEI's (if they have them)? I'm not sure, and i won't speculate.
UPDATE: We'll have to wait this one out and see what happens. In the meantime, do not use Kingo or vRoot.
UPDATE - 19 november:
FB post from Kingo:
"In this 1.1.2 version, the IMEI is no longer a problem. It's a long way to release the open source 2.X version, we have to face many tech problems and facing the Android 4.3,4.4 update at the same time. Thank you for your understanding."

If this is true, then it's safe to use Kingo again. We don't know if this is indeed true, but i don't see why they should lie about it since we can easily check it ourselves. Nothing from the devs behind vRoot though, so keep staying away from it for now.
Thanks to @stopa10 for keeping us updated
UPDATE - 8 december:
A new rooting tool has been released. Download it from this thread, and follow this guide (just swap vRoot with the new tool).
Thanks to cubeundcube (dev) and @RyokoN

Yeah, i was so soo skeptical when vRoot started to show up, and i refused to use it. Well, that was until i just had to have root, and i used it. I hate myself!
And yeah, i have PMed a mod and asked if this can be stickied so people don't use them.

I was just about to root this weekend, had everything ready to go... Does this mean we have no root methods now?

But vRoot does certainly grant root access.
Yeah we all had reservations about vRoot tool. But rooting was just to important to deny its easiness.
Will be interesting to see what the outcome is. What will happen from now...

So does Kingo, but the thing here is that we don't know why they are pulling IMEIs and what not. You can use it, but you won't know what's actually happening in the background (while it's rooting). But read the OP. The people that are checking into this will update us when they have more on this. In the meantime, don't root unless you really really need to.
Hmmm....

I PM'd Chainfire about vRoot back in september. He was skeptical, and wouldn't use it himself, and that was pretty much it. I don't know if he's part of the investigation now though.
We'll have to wait until the mods have investigated this further, but what we already know is that they're logging our IMEIs. If that's intentional or not is a different question and I guess that's why the mods are investigating it. All vRoot and Kingo links have been removed from XDA, but if you want to use them then be my guest. I'm not stopping anybody, I'm just warning you

Yup, it looks like our IMEIs are on a remote server some place (most likely in China). But we don't know what, if or what they can do with it. The mods are - as mentioned on the case, so we'll see what they find.
Also, Kingo posted this on their FB page today. If this is true, then it's not as bad as expected, but i hope it's the same story with vRoot (that they aren't mining data), since that's what we've used the most around here.

I have also used it, including A LOT of other people. But no, you shouldn't be worried or lose any sleep We'll have to wait for the verdict from the mods, but no, I wouldn't be worried.

i like their statement, it somehow rings of the truth being spoken, that it's a bunch of devs who want wide recognition (for the right things), and clarifying it like how they're doing is a good start to getting this resolved.

Could the gathered imei be used to get blacklisted stolen phones to work again by cloneing our imei to the stolen phone?

Of course it could.
But I don't see how that could be useful to Chinese people, since a stolen phone with blocked IMEI can be used freely in another country.
For example, if I steal a phone here in Italy, and it gets IMEI blocked, I can sell it in the UK because it will definitely work there.
I also used vRoot like everyone else, it was simple, quick, and most of us needed it for restoring our old apps or for tinkering with DPI or something else.
I don't regret it, and I'm still skeptical about it being such a malware app. The only app I saw was MtkCamera, and I've just seen it on the first version of vRoot, not the last one.
Furthermore, I did a full scan with McAfee (and uninstalled the minute after) and it didn't find anything.
That doesn't mean the whole process it's secure (because it pushes data into the phone and erases it after it's done), but it's a start.
Just my 2 cents obviously, not backed up by any concrete proof.

Interesting.. I just don't understand how IMIE could be useful for them if it now was intentional to save it.
It's not like they can block the IMIE from another country is it :s? And even if they block/clone it or whatever, does this even make a difference being another country and all?
How important is IMIE? I know it's like your personal number and you use it to block the phone within the country. For example, I know people sell phones that they got from a contract, the carrier then blocks the IMIE and sends them a new phone making the scammer get away with money and a new phone.
But still, from another country?
