I bought a thunderbolt off of a friend for $50. When I got it, it wouldn't start up, but I got it running. I still had sporadic issues with the touch screen though. I thought it was a software problem since it would work like normal when I got past the lock screen.
One time I started the TB up while it was hooked up to my laptop and had no problems at all with the screen. I decided to try out the headphone jack and one of the earbuds had a weird buzzing sound. I unplugged the USB cord and the buzzing changed. When I touched the screen it would change again and all the sudden the screen stopped working.
I decided to go ahead and put the phone on my account and see if I could do a warranty replacement (I had already contacted to confirm this would be possible) but now it's working fine after a restart. 2 days and no trouble. My question is do you think it's a hardware issue (maybe a short in the digitizer?) or a software problem? The phone is in very nearly mint with no damage and sat in a drawer for 8 months. One earbud still buzzes on occasion, but only for a minute. I'm not sure what the problem is now.

Well my phone is still working, but I've discovered something. When I installed the clarus widget app, it showed the battery health as "over voltage" any suggestions on how I can check the health of my battery? The stock romantic doesn't show that info and I want to confirm what the clarus widget is showing.

Battery calibrator? It shows the actual voltage

I'm on my second TB, and getting my 3rd in the mail Tuesday. I had touch screen issues with both. Never rooted either of them. If I get issues with the 3rd one, I'm going to tell them I need a different device already.
Issues I've been having are deadspots on the screen where I don't get any functionality out of those spots.
Has anyone has problem when listening to music using the socket built into the main unit, sometimes whiles listening to music, the sounds seem to move to the left with the left side being louder, not sure if it's the socket or the some problem with the sound chip, but moving the plug of the headset is not the cause of the problem, but you need to pull the plug out and insert back in to get the sound normal.
sometimes just pluging the headphones in also cause the problem.
Yessss! I thought it was my headphones!!!
I have had the exact issue with my G5 also! Exactly as you described it, I had to unplug and replug the headset to get it to go away. I was using Skull Candy Smokin' Buds....you? I actually went out and bought the LG Tone Pro bluetooth headset instead.

I have a few IEM listed in my sig that I use, all expensive ones, so i don't think i will use a BT IEM to replace them, also cable IEM produce better sound for Hi Res sound, I have also found out that you can skip to the next few tracks/files and go back it will go back to normal, but in all case we shouldn't have to do anything to cover up the problem, I think it's a software problem, but my G5 is going back today and i'm getting a new one through a instore 14 day exchange policies.

Yeah...But this is the second one I've had that issue on! Coupled with the flaws in the glass on the Titan screens...and the silver I had freezing and not turning on...this quality control is really crap on this phone. And that sucks, because I love this phone more than any Samsung I've had!

my first had scratches on the silver line on the case, second had a white burn mark in the screen, and can be seen with all colors, this is my third one, not totally perfect, but I have the advantage of checking the unit in store for problems including dead and bright pixels, but the sound problem was only noticed a few days ago and I thought it was my IEM, but it happened a few times, I should have my B&O unit soon, but this problem should happen whether its hardware or software wise.
I just had an issue with the FM Radio - it kept saying headphones not plugged in! I pull them out plug them back in, and it was OK again! I am using my G4 headphones too so even the same make!! I hope I don't need to return it GRRRR
@jreed3786
I got a replacment phone yesterday, at first I though it ok on this unit, but the problem is there and it's on they same song file, therefore I think the DAC actually can detect this problem that may be it related to the actual file, could be a bad conversion causing the phone to perform like this.
that being said, I have a DSD file that starts to buzz when it reached the end of the song, it happens on the V10 and now the G5, and the time length on the file shows like -9206:-30, whiles played on other units it's ok.
You guys didn't push it in all the way. G5 for some reason has a lot of resistance on the port. I had same experience until I noticed the gap and decided to give it little more force. It clicks in hard and didn't have any issue after that

I know how to plug the headphone plug in, it's not that issue, it's more like a compatibility issue, I have comfirmed this myself numerous time.
Headphone jack issue and more
So I've also suffered from the issue with my headphones plugged in. My left channel is quiet and my right is loud. On one occasion the left channel crackled and completely died. Unplugging and plugging back in my headphones causes the phone software to correct itself. This happens at least every other day. Then, my phone became sluggish a couple days ago and started to freeze and suffer random restarts until last night when it froze and entered a bootloop on the startup screen. I pulled the battery and let it sit for a while and plugged it back in and it entered the OS but was sluggish. This morning I attempted to use messenger and it froze again and entered another bootloop and then died. I took it back to T-Mobile and I've only had it 18 days. They took it back under their 20 grace period and I now have my second G5. This same issue was prevalent in the G4 and LG has recognized that issue. I hope I'm not in for another letdown on this second phone. I just divorced Motorola... Where to next?

that's ok, i didn't mean't for that either, but may be it stood out too much, I apologize for that, the actual issue is compatibility with the music file and the DAC, sometimes the dac can get really sensitive and pickup minor errors in the files to cause these problems, previously the few files that had the problem has been removed from the phone, no problem since.

So the audio issue I was having is the same as the other posters on this forum. One channel with a low level and the other with a normal level and then having to unplug the audio cable to reset it. However, the ultimate failure of the phone is not. I was sharing with everyone what happened to mine and perhaps I should have started a new thread with that issue alone? I haven't had my second phone for even 24 hours yest so only time will tell and I will post and findings related to the audio here. I use my headphones during the work week so that is when I will know for sure.

Exact same thing happening to me, will pan most of the sound over to one side making one ear quite loud and the other quiet. I find if I pause, switch to another app, than back to whatever music app I was using it usually resolves the issue. Hoping the B&O module helps but doubtful considering this seems software related. I'll probably just deal with it this way.
I have the Same issue via aux. Restarting Poweramp mostly helps

I bought it yesterday
Headphone jack is very very loose. I tried to different earphones.whenever i touch headphone jack headphone gets disconnected. Any one with this issue
Only problem with mic enabled headphones
Same problem though my normal headphones work fine. When i use my headphones with a mic it only plays the right channel. I have not always had this problem but seems to be lasting a lot longer today. Normally fixed itself in 30 seconds but has yet to. I tried restarting phone with headphones in, then again with them unplugged. Havent found a solution. Does the B&O module work?
Holla fellows, on my LG G5 I am facing a very bizarre issue. When I activate my speakers my microphone stops working. when on earpiece they work like a charm. Also microphone didn't work when used my other applications like skype or hangout, but while using earpiece they are perfectly fine. Anyone else got this issue on G5 or anyother device ? Any suggestion or advice is greatly appreciated.
I'm having the same issue. Literally just got the phone 4 days ago. Pretty happy about it. Have you reset?

Yes, I tried resetting via backup and restore under settings menu
Reset mine and thought about the mic being housed in the battery holder bottom part. Why not take it out and clean connections....mic works great now. Dunno if from reset or alcohol cleaning connections. Give it a shot.
Same here i purchased the phone on 5-5-16 it will reboot on its own almost everyday till 5-19-16 when it completly just gave up and wouldn't turn on. So i went to tmobile and they replaced it for a new one. But now the replacement gave up yesterday 5-28-16. It has managed to turned on once but the device was too hot that i turned it off to cool it down and it wont turn on anymore. Sucks that is long weekend and i wont be getting s replacement soon.
I too am having this issue, however mine has one other weird glitch. If i put the phone on speakerphone and talk into th phone like normal (phone up to my ear) i can hear myself in the phones speaker faintly and the mute button does no work at all. Works fine on normal mode but not on speakerphone. To me this is a software issue vs hardware issue, I bought the phone second hand so I dont really have any warranty. Anyone have anything to offer up to try? Ive tried a different battery module base and no luck, same issues. Its almost like the phone needs a entire reflash done to it. Other then this issue the phone rocks.
The phone is a Canadian H831 model.
I had similar issue with older device. Read on some thread and they suggest disable Google now. It worked for that device. I am not sure if it will for you guys?

Thanks for the link @marac1993 will check
I had the same problem. It turned out to be a "hardware" thing. There are two microphones, one at the bottom of the phone which works when on earpiece, and the second one on the top of the phone (above earpiece) which works when on speaker mode. I cleaned the first one several times without noticing there is a second one on the top. It turned out that the second microphone was blocked by some dirt. I cleaned it and now it works like a harm when on speaker mode.
I'm a G4 owner. I'm on my 2nd handset (the first was a bootloop victim). My new phone often runs very hot, and on one occasion while in the car I got a message saying that the phone had stopped charging because it was too hot. More worryingly, the phone frequently becomes completely unresponsive for several seconds - e..g. while on the home screen it doesn't respond to any touchscreen or button actions for several seconds.
I'm shopping for a replacement, and can't decide between a G5 and a Galaxy Note 4. The Note 4 seems to have much better battery life, but the G5 camera sounds much better in low light (and also has Nougat). My main concern with the G5 is that it'll start to exhibit some of the G4's problems.
Have any G5 owners experienced overheating or serious lag/unresponsiveness issues?
I too had a G4 that suffered from the bootloop issue. Actually went through three of them until Sprint replaced it with a new device. I could choose between the G5 and the HTC 10. I reluctantly stuck with the G5, mostly for the replaceable battery. I haven't been disappointed, with the exception of the GPS antenna crapping out a few weeks ago. No overheating that I've noticed.

You can minimize overheating by NOT charging while being use (as a gps for instance) When possible have the screen off... If you game a lot on the phone, another brand might be best.

I don't game at all, but use GPS alot in the car. If I use Google Maps Navigation with no charger connected the battery would be dead before I complete most journeys. So unfortunately that wouldn't be a practical workaround.
I'm shocked that the phone can't perform as a basic GPS device without overheating if it's connected to a charger - running off a car charger is surely normal for anyone using their phone as a GPS for any extended period of time?

So I've been experiencing the same issue disucussed here on reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/un62zy
Basically, after the phone has been one for a few hours to a day or so, the figerprint senor essentially acts like it doesnt exist. Even the fingerprint manager disapears from the system menues. Restarting the phone usually brings it back, but not always. I've seen some people attribute it to heat, but my phone rarely gets hot.
It really feels like a software issue. I contacted sony about this issue, and they say they are aware of it, but all they can really offer is to use the sony Xperia companion program to wipe the phone.
It might help to mention that i am rooted and unlocked bootloader. However, my phone has been for months before this issue started. I don't feel like those two things are connected.
It doesn't feel like a hardware issue. But does anyone have an idea what the issue might be?
I have the same problem as you. Neither a wipe nor a different firmware helped me eventually.
I sadly learned to live with it.
Is it after a few hours no matter what, or have you noticed it stop working after charging? Cuz a bad charger can knock it out, though usually only while charging but it's possibly you have a charger that causes it to stop working until reboot?

I think for me, it is, no matter what it becomes faulty after a while, been using the original Sony charger + cable.
But I have a substitute that I can try, thank you for the info.
I've officially gotten to a point where neither a reboot nor safe mode brings it back.
It's such a weird issue. This phone won't be as easy to take apart as my previous phones.

I still hope that Sony will release a Software Update that fixes it …
Hello Everybody,
Same here, i updated to the last version 61.2.A.0.418.
I have the Xperia 1 Mark III UK version. I did a Factory Reset, and the fingerprint sensor works from time to time and stops working completely.
Then I did a hard reset and format, from Xperia Companion. Also with the same result.
It is the third time that I completely reinstall it using Xperia Companion.
- The fingerprint sensor does not work and if you restart the system it works for a short period of time.
- Another thing that I have noticed is that the problem that the Gmail application does not receive notifications of new emails (despite being turned on and configured) has also returned as it happened in other firmware updates.
- And finally, it only happened to me once but the notification LED turn on in blue light and did not go off until I did a forced shutdown.
I don't know what is happening, why this update has broken so many things. I hope sharing this will help others.
It seems to be an electrical noise design defect. My original Xperia 1 III rebooted if it had a fingerprint set, the screen off, and was fast charging with the factory charger. It self-destructed while sending it in for repairs and SBE made false claims that I had altered the firmware. I exchanged it and the replacement has issues too. I can pick up the phone off the table and it says the fingerprint reader is disabled from too many attempts. The touchscreen sometimes goes crazy too. Tap-to-wake is essentially run-battery-dead-because-screen-never-turns-off.
The other issues in this thread are software bugs, probably with the low-memory-killer. This is definitely not my favorite phone.
I have a UK 1 III and have not really had any problems with the finger print scanner, it struggles to open the phone if the screen is off, but if I pick the phone up and the screen comes on, it unlocks every time using the scanner. I have not modded the phone or changed software and have had the phone for just over 2 years.
Hi I wonder if anyone has tried to replace the fingerprint sensor and flex cable to try to fix it. These could be bought for like 10 dollars together in China so might be worth a try!
