Well, you get plenty of options ! With working TWRP, you can either flash a 4.5.x version, or the Lollipop 5.1.x, and root them when you do it :

[Q] Questions about Root, Safestrap & Gapps for the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9"

Hey,
I am about to get a new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 64gb tomorrow and I'm already checking how to root the tablet and get all the Gapps up and running.
Unfortunately there are still a few things which are a little bit confusing for me at the moment:
1. Which is the best way to make sure that the Kindle Fire does not install an OTA update on its own? I mean it can not be the solution to keep the tablet in airplane mode all the time, that is ridiculous! I read about several ways to block OTA updates, installing a firewall, changing a value in the build.prop or renaming a certain file in den /system/ folder. Which way has to be proven to be the best way?
2. After gaining root I will install Safestrap and flash the official Amazon Rom to a slot. Is there a size for the Rom partition which is recommended? I have seen Safestrap now supports up to 16gb.
3. After booting the Amazon Rom from a Safestrap slot, can you do an OTA update or will this affect the whole system?
4. Can someone please point me to the correct and latest version Gapps for the 8.9" model (Apollo)?
I'm pretty sure I will come up with more questions tomorrow, but that's for now!
Thanks for your help ...

Once you complete the process to make dual-system (both Gapps and Amazon) the HDXposed module will block updates.

Personally, 6GB or 8GB. I currently use 4GB and it got a LITTLE crampy when I downloaded a couple videos from Coursera.

It seems to be known the Xposed mod doesn't block updates. If you want the tab for the specs but also as close as possible to a stock android experience. I would recommend how I did it with SS on both stock and rom slot, airplane moding the stock slot and never going back there unless necessary. Also try to rename the files and if possible try to mod the build if you think fit.
Just my 0.02.

Thanks for all the help! After some back and forth I now have the most things working and it's a great device, but I still have one questions. Does Google+ work for anyone of you? As soon as I open the Google+ app it crashes immediately and goes back to the launcher. Did anyone have similar experience and knows how to fix that?
Thanks!

Same as kschang with same version of Google+ (latest version). HDX 7 with 13.3.1.0 firmware. It's run fine with Cpasjuste's ROMs (both the Thor Gapps and the AOSP ROMs) as well as stock ROM with Cpastjuste's Gapps zip installer.
Hi
I've also got HDX 8.9 14.3.1.0 Apollo. How did you get supersu installed?
I've got the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip
The author recommends installing through Google Play.
But if I turn off airplane mode I'll get updated, so I can't do that.
Other option is to install supersu through CWM, TWRP or MobilOdin.
But they also require Google Play to install.
I'm on linux. What should I do?

I mean Christ the best I can find is this: http://blog.julianxhokaxhiu.com/entry/how-to-install-supersu-on-hamlet-zelig-pad-210g
But he's got a custom install script. There's no install.sh file in the zip I got.
Some old threads look promising (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410223) but will BurritoRoot or whatever worked on Kindle Fire 2 years ago work for Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Apollo???
If you got all this working, it would be great if you could just unpack all the instructions you went through. No links and trying to be timeless lillypads for the future, just a detailed case study.

[Q] Root Kindle Fire 4.5.2

Hello, I have recently updated my kindle fire hdx 7 to 4.5.2 on accident. Is there any way i can root it or downgrade it? I eventually want to put TWRP on my kindle fire, but as of now i am unable to. Can i get some help with this?
Read through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/rollback-to-devices-upgraded-to-4-x-t2946946
If you do decide to follow through with this method, they'll most likely downgrade you to 13.3.2.8, so no TWRP; the closest thing you'll get to it is Safestrap.

So you think that 3.2.8 can run safetrap to boot another rom? Wouldnt that trigger the eFuse?

The fuse is already blown when you downgrade from FireOS 4. You can still root it, install Safestrap and all that — it just means that you can't downgrade your tablet any further with any of the methods currently available.

I'm not sure you're entirely correct. Amazon downgraded me to 3.2.8, and I'm rooted, but i dont think that you can use safetrap on 3.2.8

Interesting. So basically you can boot any rom? For example can you boot another version of Android lets say 4.4, or it must be the same as the stock rom?

With Safestrap on FW 3.2.7-8 you cant use ROMs with custom kernels like CM 11 or Nexus 2.0.4.
ROM for Safestrap must be compatible with kernel on stock rom, so your only option for now is Nexus 2.0.2 (its based on 3.2.4, but seems to be compatible with 3.2.8) - if you want something else than rooted stock with Gapps...

Nexus v4, CM11 and CM12 are your choices. If you want FireOS v4 you need to use a special tool/procedrue to remove all components except the base OS (what gets written to the system partition) from the stock .bin. There's a thread somewhere in the HDX forums; I'd have to hunt it down if interested (beware: not noob friendly).
Are you asking because you want to retain some of the unique functionality in FireOS? If so there are workarounds to all but a handful of features. Just need to identify what you are looking for.

I would love if the Fire OS 4 launcher could be ported to another ROM, but I can't see that being possible without some huge modifications.
Also, I found a TWRP flashable stock 4.5.2 ROM:

Yep - there is a handful of users who prefer Amazon's launcher which has some nice features. That said it seems unlikely someone would take on the port given the work involved and relatively low interest. Glad you found a version of 4.5.2 that can be safely flashed. Enjoy!

Believe this is the one. You might want to start reading from the end as there are some recent notations about 4.5.4 and 4.5.5. Material is not for the faint of heart but not overwhelming difficult once you get past the terminology. I have not messed with the tools; you will need to reach out to @draxie with questions/comments. Don't for forget to give draxie a 'thanks' if his tools help you.

Hi!
I have a Kindle Fire HDX 7 (Thor).

Happy to provide more detailed guidance (several have taken a similar leap) but will be traveling the next few days with limited XDA access. You can find everything you need in the HDX forum (several threads dedicated to the topic) or just hang tight until I return.

Sorry but now I can't remember precisely what I did.
None of the steps works? I remember that the first step (generate the unlock code) was flawless.
If even the first step doesn't work maybe you have adb drivers problem, so check the prerequisites section here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ki...r-firmware-t3463982/post70881555#post70881555
