Seems to be failing. Works off and on. Tried Safe mode, two fdr's. Has anyone done an Rma with LG before? How long is the process? Will they ship you a phone in advance?
Thanks

Hi, did you get a resolution for this? I am having the same problem. The volume down button works when it wants to. Thanks.
I've had the same problem 2 times now. Sent to LG and they have repaired at no cost. Last time LG told would replace the phone, but repaired again. Love the phone put only had it since April and it's been in repair more than I've had it. LG didn't do a great job with volume key. Not hopeful that this last repair will last any longer than previous times..
I'm have the same problem. You're not alone.
Any luck?
I recently purchased a used VS987. As soon as I started using it I noticed the volume down button doesn't work. I've tried safe mode, updated to the latest firmware version (VS987BA, Oct 2017), and I've replaced the rocker button. No luck. Now the person I purchased it from does not want to refund my money. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Did you try gps fix with 3 pin lift? Chance of 1 breaking and volume button issues. I did that with gf phone and was very careful. Her volume down stop working thought it was ^ that. But checked with magnify glass and not the case. Probably just another common problem with this phones crap build quality.
I've seen two other people I know with G5 volume button issues. None of them tried that gps thing or ever open up phone.

I have not tried that. I'll give it a shot. My goal is to get it fixed and sell it and get an unlocked RS988. Thanks!

Re-read what I wrote. I was asking if you tried that because it could of caused issue with volume. If not then you just have another detective unit. Don't try gps 3 pin fix doesn't work also only lasts a lil while and you risk screwing up volume rocker.

Try a reset or reflash the rom your using. Ice hasn't been released yet officially for the note so you must be on one of the leaks. Try reflashing

Wow that's a new one in me. I thought read someplace that certain roms react this way if the battery get to low and you have to go into cwm and do a cache wipe I think. Sorry that all I got .

If phone is turning off in download mode I doubt it is the ROM installed. Have you tried swapping batteries?
Also the issue seems to ONLY HAPPEN WHEN MOVING THE PHONE! SO I dont think Its a doftware issue. I tried changing battries same issue. It stayed on all NIGHT last night. Then when I go to touch it this morning it restarts.

How about if you leave the charger plugged in? Hopefully you can get the opportunity to get it restored to stock and have it exchanged under warranty.
Edit: stuck power button maybe?

It does it with charger too. But ONLY really does it while moving it
I CANT get it to even turn on now, It will viberate and show samsung and then shut off
I can get it into download mode for a sec and it will flash and turn off
The power button got mashed a little too hard.
If its store bought, its a warranty issue.
If its Craigslist or ebay you have to pull the whole thing apart and reseat the silver button in the case correctly and reassemble.
I've come across a few phones that have this defect.
Hey Ranger, notice you spend a lot of time in what I call the "trenches" in the Q&A and Gen sections providing assistance and guidance. Where I like to hang out and since I have the Note now...and still providing to the Infuse 4G community...
You seem to be a resourceful individual, sir.
Thanks Ranger!

Maybe one of your cables inside is loose and disconnects when you move it? I would either take your phone apart yourself or take it to a shop to get it checked.

Sometimes the home button won't respond when I hit it, while other times the back button doesn't work. They never both quit working, only one or the other. Once I turn the screen off then back on it fixes the issue or get to the home screen, the button will suddenly begin working.
Anyone know why?
Are you using a custom kernel?
I've had this happen to me as well. I thought it was a problem with the screen protector that I had recently installed, but not true.
The same thing for me as well, turning the screen off and then on makes the capacitive buttons work again. I have had it where sometimes both are not working, but usually it is just the home button more often.
And for myself, no, I am still on the stock ROM
Yeah I'm on stock as well. Was going to unlock it but if I need to return the device to att I want to figure out what is wrong first.
The sprint version got an update to fix this exact issue....here's hoping att does the same or this thing goes back before I break it!!! :banghead:

Mine does the same. Hope ATT release the update quick, because this ruine the whole experience on such a great device.
Same problem with me. Day 1 I got the phone, Day 2 exchanged it. Now day 12 and have continuously been having problems, even since the swap. AT&T store guy told me they don't know when they are getting the update. Don't know if I should hold out or swap to SGS4 :crying:

I can't speak for everyone, But Scotts CleanRom 2.5 fix's a lot of stuff AT&T screwed up
and it definitely make's the touch more responsive. The Home and Back buttons are working much better with Cleanrom
in 2.5 he updated to the newest leaked AT&T version 502.12, I be leave the fix was a part of that.
I had just installed new kernel from TWRP, and rebooted. Nothing, just straight black screen. I cannot get to recovery or download mode. The battery was about 60% and plugged in when I did the kernel flash. If I hold the power button for a long time, the LED flashes orange about 10 times, then repeats the flashing pattern, only if plugged in to charger. I do not have a small torx to remove the screws and attempt a battery pull. Any ideas? As a note, the phone had been giving me various reboots for no apparent reason.
U prolly flashed a nexus 4 kernel on accident it will give u a hard brick time for JTAG then

Ugh, I was anticipating/dreading hearing that. I wonder if it is worth spending the money to fix. Any idea on the resale on these--working of course?. Thank you.

Which JTAG service did you use? MobileTechVideos?
Yes, MobileTechVideos. Phone was received by them Thursday. Still toying with keeping it for backup and canceling my insurance on the E980, assuming Josh can fix the thing.

Update: Received my phone back from MobileTechVideos, and everything works well again. They installed the ROM I had requested, so I am happy with the service and recommend them. Now my only problem is I still prefer the screen on the LGOG over the Pro....
So it just stopped working today. Not sure if hardware or software related.
The only recent software issues I've had was my phone started random freezing on the latest Cyanide update so I restored back to my last backup which was v7.5.
Any suggestions?

I'm not aware of power button failure being firmware related. It's most likely failed hardware. I've recently had a power button failure on one of my phones. It's a mechanical switch which is subject to wearing out. But if you really want to check, flash back to stock and see what happens try to enter download mode or recovery. If unable to do that, then it's hardware.
Options are get it replaced, about $40 plus shipping, or install gravity screen and something like power menu.

So like the title says, mi power button is dead, it has no more that tactile feedback and I cant turn on the screen, anyway volume keys are working... is there a way I could turn on my phone in order to get data back from the internal memory? Thanks.
Mmm... take off the back cover and press the button. Also, you can configure the buttons to turn on the screen with volume keys. And maybe, will work again with another back cover

That happens when the manufacturer doesn't give us a home button, a fingerprint sendor and no dt2w feature
My power button also died over a couple of months. Factory reset, removed the case, next day I took it back to where I bought it.. technician checked it and showed me it's working fine (!?) It's still working fine a few days later.
