Greetings,
I am a newbie, fairly competent with computers, well maybe not this time since I accidentally deleted the camera folder on my droid turbo 2 while moving them to my pc. Have been googling and learning as much as possible, and realize i need to root the phone for an undelete program to see a drive and recover files. Learning that 6.0 is very new and cannot find a root method. Really, all I want are the pictures. Not planning on changing or modifying any phone apps... phone is droid turbo 2, XT1585, android 6.0, sys version kinzie, build mck24.78-13.16.
Advice?
Thanks in advance,

Hey guys,
I'm extremely nervous about rooting since I can't really afford to replace my phone with anything at the moment.
The reason I really want to root is for screenshots and a full hdmi mirroring without the dumb 60 dollar dock.
I've read all the threads about rooting on and etc, but I'm still confused.
If possible, can someone give me a simple answer of which way of rooting is best for me, possible side effects, and what I can do with it?
I'm pretty tech savvy, thing is, is that I've never had an android phone, and really want to make sure I don't kill such a nice phone
Sorry about this, I just REALLY don't want my phone to get bricked.
Phone Information: Bell Motorola Atrix
System Version: Blur_Version.0.37.23.MB860.BellMobility.en.CA
Model Number: MB860
Android Version: 2.2.2
Baseband version: n_01.77.15p
Motorola webtop version:OSHWT_U1_5.32.13
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
I think that's all that could matter.
I have not tried to mod the phone as of yet. Only things I've done is install snes and psx emulators
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

If you search for gingerbreak, its a downloadable apk file that you install on your phone. Make sure you have an sd card installed, and then just open the application and click root. It's very simple, i've used that program many times on my bell atrix. I will see if i can find the link
You can find the app here
Will I need to reformat my SD card?
Also, is there some sort of backup I can make just in case it fails or something?
Not entirely sure what my options are in case it fails.
Same situation as OP. Really new to this Android stuff! Been doing tons of reading on this forum before I attempt anything and I have to say all this weird naming convention and such is throwing me off lol (whats with pudding and fruitcakes??).
Anyways thanks nate for the link! I've read about Gingerbreak but there is also GladRoot. Any differences b/w the two? Pro's/Con's?
Also to OP or any new people to android just in case you haven't seen this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600. Its really helpful. Answers your question about what root allows you to do briefly and some of the problems you may run into.
edit: Just re-read the GladRoot thread and it looks like that method is a no go for Bell users after the OTA (0.37.23).
@Bump: Can someone help me in regards to my second post?
Thanks again!
Best way is to download the Gingerbreak apk like the first guy said and just push that to your phone, or if you're a lazy bum (like me!) and you have a PC, then use this. Also, I've run this on my phone with no problems to any of my SD cards (both internal and external), but since it does touch that area, BACK UP BOTH. If anything, it's a bit more time but so much more worth it. Besides, don't you want a backup of those embarrassing videos you took of your friends? *cough cough* >.>
Also, know that if it doesn't work or something, pull the battery and try again. It took me a few tries, but i finally got it to work. =] Let me know how it goes.
Happy rooting!

"When attempting this on my bell phone
(same stats as shaimedio) I get the error from gingerbreak "could not extract assets !" this is a freshly purchased phone.
I've followed steps from various threads on how to do this (being I've managed to use adb and get gingerbreak onto my phone i figured that was a start.) Any tips?"
Fixed my own problem
"adb shell rm /data/local/tmp/*
adb shell rmdir /data/local/tmp
adb shell mkdir /data/local/tmp"
Looks like the temp cache prevented access
+1 for the gingerbreak. I've used it a few times without any issues.
I always plug my phone in, mount my internal memory and copy it over to the computer, then take out my SD card. Install & run gingerbreak, then put the sd card back in and copy all my data back over to the phone from the computer.
Can't really say what your options are if it fails as I've never had that happen with mine the 3-4 times I've used it.
Hope that helps a bit.
Hello,
I have a Prestigio MultiPad 9.7 PRO tablet that I got for free. The device itself is not bad, but it could do so much more if it had root access. The tablet is not so popular, so there aren't any tutorials on the web. That is why I'm asking for help here.
The device is getting updates via the OTA Service app. It downloads a system.img file onto the SD card, and then it asks me if I want to install it. Now, I'm asking is there some way to "inject" SU and BusyBox into the IMG file, and then install it.
Any help will be grateful.
Hi!
I rooted this tablet with a modified rom, you can find it here
(http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17482271/PMP5097CPRO_V1.0.3_20120418.rar)
But it is "only" version 1.03 which is rooted but t works flawlessly. Decomress the .zip file and rename the file to "update.img" and put it directly on your internal sd card of the tablet and restart it. It will ask for an update. You will get a rooted rom v1.03 without loosing any data. When you update to the latest firmware you will loose root. Tried by myself. I also tried to modify v.1.06 and to implement Superuser & Co but without success. I am a totally noob in linux .

Dummy guide
Hi all,
Yes its me the lazy one ha not really i work hard at other stuff
I need a complete dummy guide on upgrading and rooting a pretigio multipad 5097CPRO I have been asked to do this for a friend whos sole purpose of getting this done is to be able to download a 4OD app to play for his kids,
I never use these tablets however i am a linux sys admin and fairly computer literate so i can be thought
Any takers on this one
Cheers,

Hey guys!
I just wanted to ask, if anyone knows how to convert .img files (Specifically a kernel.img file) to a .vhd file and back, so I can modify it?
I just got a weird russian tablet (3Q Q-Pad RC0170B) and got it rooted, with a semi-custom ROM, but that 1GHz CPU is just not strong enough, to do anything (Literally. You open the Play Store and it crashes :S ).
And some advice on how I could achieve this the best way would be fantastic
(Sadly) I'm stuck to using an old Windows PC, and I will be able to afford a new PC in approx. 6-8 months at the earliest (Drivers license is more important).
I have tried using vhdtool, and I get constant errors, moaning about the file size being under 12MB. I'm used to Linux, now. So please bare with me if I missed something big.
P.S. I am asking this here, because I have noticed quite a few other questions here
Anyways, thanks in advance guys!

Hello XDA, I'm new here and I haven't found any info regarding root on the aforementioned tablet. I know its only been out a short while and isn't anything to shake a stick at, however I believe that the ability to root and install custom ROMs on this device would allow it to run much smoother even with the low grade hardware.
Anyhow if anyone is willing to look into rooting I would be appreciative. I did find something where a fella tried kingoroot, towelroot, and one other method which apparently worked on the ellipsis 7, but had no success. If anyone else is in favor reply and let's get some attention. Thanks XDA.

It's a real shame that no one's done this. There are guys, here, that write whole ROMs for tablets they don't even own and no one's taken a shot at a root. Not being a coder, i can't but there are so many talented guys here i'm just really surprised someone didn't lean over, fart, and put out a root. lol.
Just no real demand for it for these tablets.
Verizon is charging more for these than what you would pay for a MUCH better tablet like a Nexus 7, or Gpad 8.3, etc...
The only people that are "buying" them, are the ones that VZW is giving away for free with you upgrade your phone and add the tablet to your data plan for $10 a month. If not for them giving them away for free, nobody would have one.
I'm stuck with a nexus 8 and require root.
the latest update was forced and now hundreds of my apps will not work due to not being allowed to change sd card files. Root for me is not cool or optional.

Hundreds of apps don't work with the small and incremental update? Like which ones?
For 1, I cannot imagine even having hundreds of apps... But the update was a small one, nothing significant, and I don't see why they would have stopped working?
Disabling writing to the SD is hardly incremental!
can't add new accounts
about half my created files on SD were deleted (save games, notes, configurations)
since existing files on SD cannot be changed, and new SD files cannot be created, the following apps will not function as I need them too, or fail to do anything:
roguelike classics
angband variants
angband
humble bundle app
es file manager
astro file manager
retro arch
and bible
hacker's keyboard
teamviewer for remote
teamviewer quicksupport
android VNC
scummvm
gdosbox
unipatcher
andftp
nesemu
snes9x
gbaemu
androgens
freeciv
That's just a few of the top of my head. Since some of those are emus, each adds hundreds more games and software that will not work (I own over 8000).

What format is your SD card formatted in? Maybe something changed with the update... like the Shield Tablet cannot write to the SD card if it is over 32GB and formatted with exFAT... it needs to be in NTFS for anything higher than 32GB...
Maybe the same case here? Try copying the files to your PC, format the SD card with your PC(and specify NTFS and defaults for everything else), not the tablet because the tablet will format in exFAT even if it is larger than 32GB...
Try that and see if it works.
My Ellipsis 8 is on the latest update, and I can read and write to the SD card just fine... Not sure what the issues are that you are having.
What size SD card do you have?
I have this tab, and rooted. It took me a while to get the right combination though. Go here (it's in Chinese): http://www.kingroot.net and click on the download button with the Android icon to download the kingroot apk. Find a way to install the downloaded apk to your tab. You are rooted. I didn't like the kinguser root manager so I used this Replace_Kingroot_With_SuperSU.zip to change to SuperSU for root managing. The zip is attached. Just unzip, copy the "mrw" folder to your tab and use adb as root (either terminal emulator or adb shell from your computer) to run this command:
sh /sdcard/mrw/root.sh

Click to collapse
. Ignore the errors that may appear. After a while SuperSU will open and ask you to update binary. Do so and reboot. you are still rooted, but with SuperSU as root manager.
Now if only there were any custom ROMs...

Hey,
the title is a little confusing but I'll help you understand it. What I would want is to perform all three operations, or only root and debloating, if possible or only debloating. I have a Samsung Smart TV with model UA43NU7470 (Samsung 7 Series, it is what it's called) and I searched SamyGO for the forum for it's specific series, but in vain. Back to the main point: Has anyone tried to root this device or tried modifying it or does anyone have the link, to which I could use to debloat the OS? This specific series runs on Tizen OS, so nno worries.
Hope you have a good day
Mr. Noob.
Use this repo:https://github.com/AnantMishra01/UIBloatwareRegistry
Unfortunately it requires ADB and USB debugging and I have no idea on how to navigate it on the TV. Can you please explain with some more steps?
