I'm a complete noob and I've searched the forums and can't find an answer to my questions. (I'm sure there's some answer in Japanese on a Japanese forum somewhere, but my Japanese is not up to that level.)

I have been researching rooting on and off for months since I first got the phone and have decided I would like to root it. My reasons for rooting:
1. I want to get rid of all the apps that were pre-installed that I don't use.
2. I would like to have the latest version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. (I doubt that another authorized upgrade from au is ever going to happen, since the 2.1 to 2.2 upgrade.)
It seems from reading forums that there are special builds of an OS depending on the phone?
My questions:
1. What is the best way to backup my phone before rooting?
2. What would be the best rooting method for my phone (SuperOneClick?)?
3. How can I (or even can I) upgrade my Android to 4.0?

To answer my own question, in case any one else wants to know:
Okay... it looks like I cannot post external links... until I post 8 times, which I don't really predict doing... so I'm going to try just removing the http at the beginning and see if it will go.
Superoneclick v2.2 does NOT work with this phone. It gets through "Rooting device... Step #7" but cannot remount.
Unrevoked does not work.
Z4root also does not work.
But I found a Japanese site with directions that did work! YES!!

I have the same phone, and I've been wanting to root it for a long time. There were so many pre-installed applications that are just hogging room, especially since I can't read Japanese well enough (yet).

I spent probably the equivalent of 2-3 days searching over the last few weeks, but couldn't find anything that I was comfortable with trying.
This morning, I finally got the nerve up to try superoneclick and was really disappointed when it wouldn't work. Then I started trying all kinds of methods, and about 8 hours later finally came across the method that worked!
It's probably the only thing frustrating sometimes about having a Japanese phone: lack of English support!
Now I'm just hoping I don't break it! I'm backing up all the apps with Titanium backup before I start deleting them one by one. I would hate to delete something that is crucial to the system and not be able to restore it. I'm also looking into other ways to backup the system.
One word of warning. Your au one market will not work unless you do one more step. It's mentioned in English in the readme file. I didn't bother because I never download from it anyway. (Although, I probably should just so I'll keep getting updates on some of the J apps that I do have.)

I am a newbie here and like you all, I would also like to root my regza phone. Can someone give a working auto_rootkit because the link above is not working. I have searched it as well on the net but still all will lead me to dead hotfile link. Or someone could send me the file instead to my yahoo mail [email protected] tnx in advance
And also i have downloaded this rootkit instead from IS04 and downloaded. After dowloading, I click the adb file and it appears a command screen with commands running so fast. Next i did click the root file and there appeared a command screen with all sorts of command running so fast. My question is, i did not received any confirmation that the rooting process was succesfull. And also i have read to other forums that one thing you will notice that rooting was successfull is that 'superuser" will be automatically installed.
Please help me on this one. To be honest I started exploring this process since i have this phone and there are apps that i wanted to uninstall not unless i root the phone.

My phone just had this phone and I'm trying to update it before rooting. It came with 2.1-update 1 OS version and I'm trying to update the phone to it's latest official 2.2.2.
I've downloaded the necessary 256mb file update but it didn't work. Even tried using the recovery but is still not working.
Based on my research about this phone, There's no way to update without the phone downloading the app from the official website, using the SIM and au logins.
We've lost the sim (UIM) card that came with the phone. So I guess its stuck on its current OS. I'm having trouble installing apks (Gingerbreak and even normal apps) as it always gives me the error "parsing error" or something.
Is there anyone could help?

I have successfully updated the phone from Android 2.1-update1 to Android 2.2.2.

I have used the method of updating from the least upgrade and up to the latest. I have managed to download 3 separate files for the upgrade, namely:
IS04_RC2_RC3RE_DL.zip
IS04_RC_4.zip
IS04_TO_SP_FYRC_4.zip <- froyo update
I have extracted all the files on the sd card. make sure that the ".enc" file is found on the root of the SD Card and on the "prg" folder.
I have updated it using the recovery mode (power + volume up + camera button).
I am now currently trying to Root the device using Gingerbreak and seems that it's taking too long to root.
Also. I have able to root the 2.1-update OS using z4root.

I do, however, need more info:
Did you extract the files into any particular folder? You obviously hooked up in de-bug mode, but did you command prompt anything?
I tried your steps but get nothing to 'hit enter' on. I have also tried the other (different version) toolkit.
You can IM me or email or post or come around and root my phone yourself - I will sell you my car, house, wife...
... as you can tell I am a little frustrated ...

hello all, just picked up the Nook Tablet (16g) - and of course i am wanting to root it. i have followed all the instructions from turning on USB debugging and updating my Drivers so the device is recognized as Android ADB (which took a long time) now i am trying to run the NookandZergy.bat file. it will not show any devices here. not sure what i am doing wrong.. i have tried several times and no joy. i am doing all of this with Win7 system if that matters ( i tried running Zergy as administrator also).
i am sure this problem has come up in the forums already but i have yet to find an answer yet.

I can't help you as far as the method you described above is concerned, but I can tell you from having rooted mine several times now that Albert's SD Card method (version 4.50) is super simple and has worked great for me. No Windows drivers to mess with, etc. He lays it out pretty straightforward. I use a 4gb SD card - can't remember if a 2gb will work or not. Give it a try if you got an sd card laying around.

thats the method i used literally after booting up tablet and making screen work i powered it down and rooted it using that image file. It all just depends on what you want if you want debloated no B&N stuff or you want stock but rooted with OTA updates blocked.
Personally I just rooted so I could install CWM and install cm7 I had no interest in stock or anything B&N.

I would like to keep B&N funcionality, but prevent OTA and be able to download/install apps from different android markets and web sites. Also, I would like to be able to unroot the device if necessary (go back to original B&N software).
Which SD method should I use (Brianf21 ?) ?
And one final question before I start the work, do I need to go through initial registration process on my brand new 16 GB NT ver 1.4.1 before starting the rooting procedure ?

I was about to root my SCH-I905 (with ICS 4.0.4) according to this tutorial (starting at Step 5), like it was mentioned in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1918823. Now the tablet won't boot anymore. It's stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy Tab" Screen. I still can access download or (CWM) recovery mode. I think if I can install another kernel, it would probably work again BUT as I can't boot the tablet, I don't know how to put any files onto the interal storage. Has any buddy a solution to my problem? Please help!

ok, so I found a way to flash back to stock rom version EG01 (3.1) via Odin and the tablet does boot again. I can't do a software update (probably because I don't have a Verizon sim card since I live in Germany), so I need to update the tablet manually. Can I immediately update to FE01? If so, can somebody tell me where to get the FE01 software? Could not find it.

Problem solved
After hours of search I wasn't able to find a FE01 firmware. Although I sometimes read, that it was recommened to update to CM10.1 only from FE01 (because of the modem files and so on) I decided to give it a try. The worst thing I could have gotten was a brick and as I was stuck on 3.1 without access to homescreen or app drawer (because of the missing verizon card and tablet activation) I was quite desperate.
I couldn't get a connecting via usb to my computer to place any installation file onto the tablet. But I could access the tablet settings and so I added my google account and installed the ES file explorer via google play using my computer and this "remote installation function" of the play store. The I put the latest cm10.1 nightly for the SCH-I905 onto my smartphone via bluetooth... man that took a lot of time :laugh:. Of course the file was in the wrong direction but after the ES file explorer installation I could open the app via google play (which I only could access through the information pop-up) and paste the file into the sdcard directory. Using odin I installed CWM and installed the CM10.1 nightly.
I realize, that this case is reeeally rare. Why should someone outside the US get a Verizon tablet? Well, I bought it at a lost&found auction from the airport. It was quite cheap (because they said it could not be activated) but I thought that there must be any solution to that problem. And allthough my solution surely wasn't the most elegant of all, I'm happy to at least own a wifi-capable Jelly Bean tablet now.

I was recentlt attempting to root my Nook Tablet on 1.4.3, and came acroas a thread on this site with step-by-step instructions on how to do so. Well, to get to the point, I had already formatted the card and everything, but when I went to download the actual file for the root to the card, it said the file was not found. Does anybody know anywhere else I could find the file? Im really tired of this tablet sucking ****.

There are other root images available as well and tehre is also the option to install CM10. No root required prior to the install.

Hi, this is the first time i ask a question in this forum, so im not sure if im in the correct section.
I have a table INCO quos mini and im unable to root it.
I asked in Tech supoort of INCO and they told me to go to a support service place but there will be a extra fee to do it. (im not willing to pay for something that i can do by myself), so i asked them wich programs/software i need to use and they refused to answer.
I tried with Super One Clic and One Clic Root and thei failed to root it.
During root they show me that the tablet is already rooted and during unroot i got the message "Unknown error"
I tried with Kingo Android Rood and i seen that the file system is on read only (chmod) and is unable to make the neccesary changes and transfer the Super SU apk.
I thought to root it through cmw/clockworckmod but the device doesnt have volume button.
Any help for this case? im really angry with this tablet because i know it has some factory aplications wich spy my information and consume resources on my tablet.
