i don't know why i can't unlock,I think L9 can't download token from lg??
OR Can unlock with boot.img backup from anyone unlocked bootloader??
sorry about my english
LG is notorious for removing fastboot, which is basically the way to access the bootloader, with an OTA update. Not only do they remove it, they encrypt the bootloader for good measure.

I'm still attempting this myself, current test involves proxying through Europe, thought maybe lg started filtering ip's from the us models running euro roms to prevent the token from unlocking it. No evidence of it but just a thought. I'm even seeing if a few of my coder friends can sift through the bootloader machine code after I disassembled it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up, machine code isn't exactly a specialty of theirs, wish I had that nice ida convert back to c option, c code would actually be useful in this situation.

Ah that's another form of proxying, right now I just am using proxydroid and a UK proxy server I found. I think the most interesting point made in the latest tutorial for this is that it says you must have WiFi and data on, but from what I saw, data disconnects when WiFi is connected I think. Idk, I'm trying it both ways. This whole process is a pita. And the people in the kfhd community think their bootloader exploiting process is hard...

I am currently in Europe with the P769, and I've tried unlocking, however, I don't believe the token gets sent when one is roaming (at least I was not able to get the unlock). Not sure, if I used the EU mirrored ROM, but I gave up after handling the glitchy screen for a while.
Let me know, if you make progress, and for confirmation purposes, I could try to sim-unlock my phone and flash EU rom and try again. Then it would not be roaming, so maybe it would work...

FYI, I already sim unlocked and used a prepaid sim from Puerto Rico. My friend from there let me use his sim to try and unlock the bootloader. It didn't work so there goes that idea.

Maybe my efforts to decompile the bootloader will get me somewhere. As is though I can only get machine code, I found a program I thought might do the trick that was just released recently called fracture but I guess a u-boot doesn't go with standard binary formats in terms of the header, or maybe its signature is getting in the way, Idk this is a bit above the kinda stuff I usually do. I might poke around and chat with some RC's about this.

Now that this phone is officially released, has anyone found a way to root it? I have the sprint version which is the ls992 and I want to root it. I saw a one click tool online but it's not in XDA so I don't think it's reliable. Thanks for any help
Sent from my LGLS992 using XDA-Developers mobile app
By the way, in case any of you were wondering, I'm coming from the LG g3 (ls990). I like the smaller screen, the fingerprint reader is very responsive, I dislike the moved volume buttons, dislike the audio jack being moved to the top although it DOES sound better, actually a good bit clearer. It feels really good in my hand but does get hotter than the LG g3. The material on the back has a good grippy feel almost, it's not particularly slick which is a good thing. I could hardly use my g3 with the stock back because of how slick it was. The cameras are PHENOMENAL. All of the picture modes provided are outstanding and not just gimmicks in my opinion.

JCase claims to have a root method already but refuses to release it... even with his rep I doubt his claims.
If the bootloader is unlockable, it should be relatively easy to do.
I also have the Sprint version. The only thing that's keeping me from getting it rooted so far is the inability to get it into Fastboot to flash a custom recovery.
I've documented my findings so far here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g5/how-to/bootloader-unlock-root-ive-t3350356

Well bad news from Tmobile - I currently have the sprint ls990 LG G3 and decided to make the move to tmobile for the G5 because I was sick of locked bootloaders. The tmobile g5 does indeed have an unlockable bootloader however, LG seems to be using a custom bootloader on the G5 that wont flash anything that isnt verified. Tmobile's G5 already has a TWRP build and noone can flash it because of dm-verity. Essentially the tmobile appears to have an unlocked bootloader but lg has changed the bootloader so that it cant flash anything. That's the current status and I should add that I have not been able to try anything for myself because my phone hasnt arrived yet. But if that is the case on T-Mobile, then it's going to be even harder on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.
its locked but there's an unlock switch in the developers' options.
I came from lg g3 as well. Massive improvement and loving it so far.I have it thru verizon. Hoping for root soon that's all I really care about.

Not with a locked bootloader unless an exploit is found. It looks like the same uphill climb as with the SD820 S7/S7E now.
So for now no root, no development

It saves them a lot of time and money. Any noob able to root and unlock could accidentally flash the complete wrong system and recovery resulting in a pretty hard brick and if they allow rooting and unlocking then they would be kind of obligated to help them fix it. Even if they said it voided the warranty then they would still get tons of calls complaining.

That just doesn't make any sense though, if I buy a laptop, and or a desktop, and I install Linux and then it blows up, they're just going to tell me LOL sorry too bad. Same thing should go for phones. But if something unrelated to the software messes up, I would expect them to cover it no matter what, just like on my laptop, while I am not running the original OS software that came with it, they honor the warranty for the headphone jack breaking. Because that has absolutely nothing to do with it. The point is, if I buy something it is mine, I should have an absolute one-hundred-percent administrator privileges on any device that I can purchase. If not I need to get an extremely heavy discount for not truly owning the device.
But this is getting off topic, the whole point is that we really need to get the G5 rooted, because it honestly would be the best Android device out there if it was rooted.
Imagine this thing in running cm13, it will be perfect. Good camera, type c, replaceable battery so that way it doesn't have a finite life span, micro SD for super music users like myself. And upgrade modules , it's the future.

I think it mostly has to do with them not wanting the end user to be able to modify the device to get around things like paid hotspots and such. Carriers like sprint that have unlimited data but a paid by the GB hotspot plan potentially lose lots of money off of users getting it free with root. Also you probably have an ISP that rents you a cable modem. Those things are locked down and while you can buy your own - their locked down one, if modified can potentially increase speeds or bypass a meter. I think that ISPs (including cell carriers) like complete control so they can grab every penny and make it difficult to escape their grasps. Once again these are just my assumptions so I could be horribly wrong.

Hi everyone I've been trying to check out some Samsung Galaxy Centura ROMs and I know there are some cool ones on Android Area 51 but this whole week it the site seems to have been down. Does anyone know whats going one?
Same story here. Been trying to get on since December. I've been looking for that ARC1.3.zip - if anyone has it I'd appreciate it. That's all I need.
edit: I just got it through a direct link in the Idiot's Guide to rooting centura PDF
So...does anyone actually know what has become of Androidarea51 ??
I've been trying to access that site for some time now and it always fails to load.
Not sure what happened at AA51. They are the reason I got into Android and modding. They covered a lot of the lower-end devices.
In any event, if anyone needs files for the devices I worked on or kept for one reason or another I have files for Lg Optimus Fuel L34C, Lg Optimus Q/Net, ZTE Roamer/Merrit, Samsung Galaxy Proclaim/Illusion, Samsung Galaxy Core Prime/Prevail LTE, and I may still have some files for ST Galaxy S3. (which uses Verizon ROMs and recoveries)
Hit me up if you need anything for these devices.

Thanks for replying RealWelder.
For me AA51 -and- the LG L34C together were what made for a great turning point in my own Android adventures.
I needed a decent low-end device for wifi uses only - and the L34C went on sales for $5 & $10 & I was lucky enough to grab a couple.
If I'd known how good those little phones really were, I'd have gotten 1/2 dozen of them while they were so cheap & still wish I could find a few more to buy cheaply someplace, really !!
Best Wishes.

I still have a fuel, but my daughter plays her games on it. Lol. If you are interested in modding your fuels out I got some cool stuff I could share. I've been modding my Tab3, I've went through it and made all the text appearances and icons colorable via color pickers and a RomControl app.
Check out tdunham's Unified TouchWiz mods thread. It is mostly for Samsung's but a lot of the mods are "self-sufficient" so they should work on any device.
Sent from my KYOCERA-C6745 using Tapatalk
My couple of those were slightly modded with the AA51 ROM so as to be rooted & de-krapified.
They get used as terrific MP3 players & GPS units.
If I ever come across a couple more I'll look into making more mods.
For actual cellular uses my favourites are the Kyocera Hydro Icon & the LG Volt - both of which cost around $20 & really satisfy all my phone type needs - also rooted & de-krapified, of course.
There's Android stuff I want to use on the bigger screen - that is my present desire, and I'm hoping for that purpose that Anbox matures quickly.
I know there are other ways to do this, but that one looks most promising for Linux users right now.
Thanks and Best Wishes.
End of the golden age of Android
So sad. First Cyanogenmod site gone, now this. Android hobbyists were edged out by the new compiling method of LP (among other things) and seemed to be a slippery slope of grass-roots support for the platform. Large swaths of the xda forums have become ghost towns.
Not sure if your still trying to find arc1.3 but if my mind serves me correctly I may have it saved to either my laptop or one of my flash drives. I will have to look for it because I had all the aa51 roms for the galaxy Centura as I still have one floating around somewhere with a busted outer glass running arc.

Uploading you a zip right now, I'll post when finished.
It has cwm, twrp, root, return to stock, meid fix, and cwm loop fix. [DO NOT factory reset from Settings, or you'll have to flash loop fix(stock recovery) and then reflash your custom recovery.]
Here you go.

I have stuff for the fuel, but not sure about the zone 2. Is it l40c? I've read before that they were the same device, but just on a different carrier (Verizon instead of ST) but idk if they have same bootloader signature. The images had to be "bumped" in order to pass bootloader. You could try, but it would be at your own risk. If you do, share the results so I'll know if they work on it.

Anyone have any luck yet? Would be a good rooted phone
I know this thread is a zombie, but I would love to be able root my Fortune. I got it as a cheap temporary phone when my Nexus 5 power button died and I needed a phone for a few days, but this is actually a very good phone for the cheap price I paid. I still use it as my main device. If I could get root, that would be amazing since a lot of stuff I do on my Nexus 4, 5, and 7 often times require root and I'd love to be able to do this stuff on my Fortune.
I heard there was some LG unlock .apk they released mainly for their more popular phones but could work on the Fortune, is this a possibility?
No luck with rooting LG Fortune sold by Cricket. However, if you just want to allow tethering, there is a simple solution.
1. Download "Settings Database Editor" APP
2. Under "system Table", change the value of "tether_entitlement_check_state" from "5" to "0".
Cricket put up minimal road block on this phone.
Thinking about picking up the V60 ThinQ. I don't have any experience with LG so I'm not sure how user friendly they are when it comes to root and unlocking bootloaders. I'm stubborn and refuse to buy a phone that doesn't have:
1) A headphone jack
2) A microSD card slot
3) Root access
Yes I realize that is just making life harder for myself but I have my principles.
I know this phone is fairly new and I seem to be having trouble finding much information about root. Does anyone know if there has been any progress with it?
I'm really not trying to be "that guy" I just haven't had much luck finding reliable info. I suppose that is probably a good indicator that the info just doesn't exist but I figured I'd take a shot at asking the pros.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
don't get me wrong I love this phone but I kind of regret trading my pixel 4 xl... LG blocked users access to the bootloader... you can access fastbootd and download mode and recovery and that's it. all commands are blocked in fastboot mode as well. although the OEM unlock switch can be toggled out of the box I think they allowed this because they know that you will not gain access. I may get the S20 Plus next week, at least it has root...

It is for me. I use a few apps that need root permissions. Also, being locked out of certain parts of a pocket computer "for my own good/safety/security" just doesn't sit well with me. If I decide to go into the file system and start hacking and slashing files until it's a brick, that's on me.
I can easily see how that could seem silly to some but at the end of the day if I'm going to spend hundreds of dollars or more on a device that I carry with me everywhere and use every day for the foreseeable future, it's damn sure going to have the features that I want. For me that's a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD slot, and root access. Of course, I have a bad habit of making my own life more difficult based on principle alone. I wouldn't recommend it. However we all have to pick and choose our own hills to die on. Don't even get me started on dongles...
Anyway, I'm very sleep deprived and rambling on about nonsense. Apologies.

that may be true, but I was talking about myself because I could care less about the headphone jack. I got the V60 because of the battery life, the size, the price, and 5G... the dual screen was a bit intriguing yes but it did not fully influence my choice lol
I was thinking about getting the V60 too as I'm still on the V30, and just broke the screen over the weekend. Root is essential to me because I cannot use the portable hotspot to tether without it as my carrier blocks that by default, and forces you to change your plan if you want tethering. Root is the only way I know around that, but it sounds like the V60 has not yet been rooted.

it took over a year many variants of the V30 to be rooted iirc, this phone is far too new, and in limited markets (so fewer devs hacking on them). My guess is it will take a while for us, unless someone gets lucky.
Just to add to this, I seen that an octopus box can work on every device EXCEPT the T-Mobile version.

I'm certainly no expert, but I would expect rooting this phone to take quite some time, and perhaps a small miracle.
I don't even think they're selling an open-market unlocked version in the U.S. as they did with my last phone, the V30+.

Could you elaborate on this further please? I'm not familiar with want an octopus box is. Thank you!

Also, I'm curious about articles like this https://myphoneupdate.com/root-lg-v60-thinq-5g/ where the guy claims he roots the V60 via SuperSU & Magisk, among a few other methods. Is it all BS?

That article is BS.
I suggest looking on eBay. There might be a fire hose.

Get the V60. Use an app called PDAnet+ from the play store. Costs $8 to permanently unlock unlimited tethering. Works on un-rooted phones and hides the data from the carrier. Hands down one the best apps I ever paid for. They have a trial mode to make sure it works. Hope this helps.

PDAnet is great. Gets around the tether cap for me no sweat. What do you mean by it hides the data though? Are you saying it shows NO data use or it hides the fact you are tethering?

Pdanet+ only gives you truely unlimited tethering/hotspot only with a rooted device? are will it work on my t-mobile LG V60 thin Q device regular not being rooted because there is no root process yet on the V60 device. Is there any special way that you need to set up the pdanet+ app in order to get unlimited hotspot on the V60 to work? Thanks In advance!!!

I'm using it on my V60 now as a client but it's working as a host on my temporary unrooted revvlry and it worked just fine on my unrooted v40. You need to know how to set the proxy setting in advanced networking because you can connect any device to it using the proxy settings. Click help in pdanet and follow the instructions for other devices. But the best results are going to come if you have PdaNet on both devices and you connect them through the PdaNet application.
But no. I am getting truly unlimited tethering with no throttling on all of my unrooted devices that I've used it as a host. So if you -don't- have a rooted device try PdaNet. It works because it is operating as its own server, a proxy server. The data is going to your unrooted device then going through a server to the client device. The carrier doesn't see this as a tether.
Edited for errors

I second that. Completely worth paying for. The only thing I found is that Verizon sometimes seemed to catch on to what I was doing, because I would stop getting data. I would have to disconnect and then reconnect and then things worked fine. It was a minor inconvenience.
One reason I want root access is so I can run AdGuard and NordVPN together (without using their SOCKS5 server).

After what I have read about what they did to fastboot Im not holding my breath for root. Im returning the phone and getting the Galaxy S10.
Root has become less of a necessity for me over the years, though I do think that if I pay $1 for something, it should be mine to do with as I choose. $800 for a phone and I DAMN SURE should have that ability. If I brick it or make it so that any noob can get my info off wifi/bluetooth/whatever, then that's on me. No *****in' policy in full effect.
