Hi everyone, need some help
Since i want my device's RAM to increase, or atleast make it become less prone to overloads, i search around the web until i found this "Swap partition"
i wanna give it a try, tbh i am ready to do it, i have the steps, a free SD card, a device that supports it (i guess) and the apps required
however there is one problem...
It seems that i cant determine my SD card's class, as you can see in the picture, so am not sure if it will really work fast...
however i decided to include my SD cards benchmark (default option)
so ya guys, what do you think? Will it work for my SD card? if so what is the recommended size? 128MB or 256MB?
Thanks for reading!

There is swapper app found in the market.
Does this work in mini?
Any improvements in performance?
Anyone have tried?
It basically create a swap file in the sdcard, similiar to pagefile in windows to increase the memory to run
Haven't tried it, there might be some benefit if you tend to multitask heavily and have a decent speed flash card or find yourself running out of memory frequently, I seem to recall reading some positive comments in the mini general forum also.
I tend to run a pretty light setup and can't be bothered with the inconvenience of having to unmount swap each time I want to access the sd card via usb mass storage, though I might have play with it later to satisfy my curiousity.
I've try it in my mini pro, and it does increase the speed. And it doesnt need to unmount / mount the swap everytime u need to access the sd card.
don't waste your time? It won't work unless the phone has kernel swapping support, which the x10 doesn't have.
In other words, you'll need a custom ROM before the program will work .
hi people!! im impressed one more time with the new rom 2.1.9!! but i have a question related to one of its new features which i dont understand very well... i hope some one has a little time to explain it with details to help me and other people who may have these same questions...
first of all whats partition and swap? i suppose partition is to take a part of ur sd card for aps and all this stuff, but swap?
second... i dont have any partition and i always move lots of aps to sd card without problem, then, why should i do a parition? is there any advantage in doing it?? in that case, is there a guide around here to do it in an easy way?
and finally.. swap! what is it for? is there advantages in doing it? in that case what are them and how could i do it in an easy way?
i hope some one could have a moment to explain it a little bit but please as clear as possible, taking into account im a full noob in this topic... and if anyone have more questions related to this topic post here if u want...
i would just like fully understanding all the functions, possibilities and goods of my x10 mini and this incredible rom...
thanks everybody who wants to help!!!
About swap and partition, actually I've tried it both, but it just makes my device slower (even on class 10 SD card)... Maybe, the explanation of this issue is because our phone already use up speed reading files and programs installed on SD card, so swap just makes it any harder...
I tried partitioning my sd card with swap file, using swapper, swapper2, but the best result is when I don''t partition my sd card at all..
Then, the next question perhaps : then why are there swap availability ? That I can't answer...

thx for ur answer!! at least u can talk from experience... the fact is that i feel my phone runs amazingly without these swap and partition things... but as u say, taking into account they are available i wanted to know if it would be even better for my phone to try them.
however watching ur results i will stay without swap and partitions, because i have all i need in my phone and still free space
thank u buddy!

First off, many thanks for your efforts on porting CM7 to our lovelly device. Great work, I hope it will reach the stage when we can flash it for 24/7 use.
I was wondering about the internal/external storages, and some common problems there are there.. Since I cannot post in your thread (not yet to 10 posts), I decided to post it here, so someone would notice and bring it to your attention..
Have a look at forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/28396-internal-storage-wasted-merge-with-sd-card/ - although it's another device, the described problem is the same a i9001 user can face..
Most apps do not "see" the external SD, because it's under /sdcard/external_sd/, and they install in /sdcard/.. However in our phone, that's the internal storage which can fill pretty easilly, especially if you load a ton of apps with downloadable data, such as navigators.. This kinda nullifies the benefits of a 32GB card, because you can only use it for music/videos/torrents/etc, and not install stuff on it..
So, is it possible (through cyanogen) to merge the external and internal sd cards? (prefferably without a raid system, as I assume that would lead to corruptions if the phone boots without it's external sd? dunno, you know better)
or at least merge the phone storage with the internal storage (internal sd), and mount the external one solelly on /sdcard/?
I'm still pretty green, as I have gotten my phone for around a month.. And it's pretty much my first android.. However I'd like to have an option besides hacking *.apks to change their downloaded data dir.. Moving apps to SD only moves them into the internal card.. So pretty much I feel my external is useless..
Many thanks again for your time and dedication
I saw a thread on this last week, before I'd rooted the tablet, and can't find it any more. Please feel free to point me if my question's already been answered!
I have an A101It, so gen 8. I've just rooted it with the '-rw' method on here. Thing is, I can still only use the SD card for file storage - can't even move apps onto it - and would really like to know how to get the system using it as extra 'internal' memory. I might possibly be looking to use it as a swap file, I'm not clear on the terminology. At the very least I should be able to install apps to it, shouldn't I?
Can you do this with the root method I've used, or should I undo that and use uruk droid instead? Has anybody posted working instructions on getting some performance advantage from an SD card? (Or shall I just fill it up with 32gb of pointless home videos that nobody will watch?)
Not sure if i can help but ill try it anyways , did u try the ''app 2 sd'' apps?
I used them when my internal storage was full so i could move my apps to my SD card so i had enough space again.
Hope this helps!
Hey all, let me just start by saying that I have searched, read, tried so much already, with so much information (specially from here) to apply a swap partition to increase ram on my phone.
Ill start from the beggining..
Phone rooted, I tried ram expander app, was a bit dissapointed because of the constant internet connection needed and the fact that after some time, my notification for ram expander (saying total memory:2048 for example) would dissapear and eventually my game crash. Maybe the swap file stopped working for some reason. Doesnt matter..
Now I am trying to set a swap partition on the phone and as far as I have been able to, this has been the only method that I have already noticed some difference.
So i started with this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1934360
And up to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1422061
And this last one is where I am currently at..
I have, once again, rooted phone, busybox installed, root explorer installed, terminal emulator installed.^
I have partitioned my micro sd card, that is class 10 HC1 45mb/s (Kingston) with a normal primary partition, fat32 (just like on the links, leaving space basically for 2048mb for swap partition) I created a second Linux swap partition with the leftover space (2048mb).
I havent understand fully if 2gb swap partition is too much or if I can just have 1gb (which is shame cause ram expander could go for 4gb, if it wasnt strangely working on my phone...)
Im currently stuck on step 2 of the second link..
I have the install-recovery.sh file, which everytime I try to add the code, it saves but when reopening it shows as if I didnt add no lines..
Now the rest parts I dont know what to do, besides not showing the lines added I dont know what is rebooting to recovery, I dont know what is flashing a file (in this case, init.d-autorunner-stock.zip, which I already copied to my sd) and the rest.
Basically I wanted to know if 2048mb swap partition is possible and how to get there.
I never added a custom ROM, its factory settings about ROM, but my phone does support swap. I will provide an image about this.

Supposedly I only have 185mb at my disposal from swap partition? Im sure im wrong, maybe...
Please, I hope this post is acceptable and obeys the norms of this forum, like I said before I have been reading and trying so much for some days, maybe already 2 weeks now. I made this post as a last resort.
My sincere thanks ahead for everyone, maybe this can help other people aswell.
same problem
I have same problem
stuck on step 2
Reboot into Recovery and flash the init.d-autorunner-stock.zip.
idk wht is this and wht to do ??
