Verizon VS987 - VS98726B OTA fail! - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I took the VS98726B OTA Friday, forgetting it would kill my PDANet hotspot argggh! So I tried downloading previous KDZ and flashing with LGUP...fail. Tried LG Flashtool...fail. They do say anti-rollback check PASS so whats the problem? My G5 is now bricked due to failed LGUP attempt, it'st stuck at 'firmware update' screen. Can some please help me sort this out!? Thanks!
OS: Windows 7 64-bit.
Tried... Setup_LGFlashTool_2.0.1.6-ieatacid Result: FAILED! (Could not load driver even though I had the VS987 driver downloaded and installed)
** LGUP 1_14_3... Result: FAILED! (Cannot load driver)
** LGUP 1_11 Result: FAILED! (REFURBISH mode fails after GPT step with erorr, UPLOAD model fails after phone reads 2% resulting in BRICK!)

Are you using uppercut? Ir it fails why dont you try to use recovery tool from verizon ?

I have downloaded uppercut but I haven't figured out how to use it yet. I did download the LG Mobile Support Tool from LG and entered my IMEI so that I could trigger it to update my phone despite the fact that it says its already up to date. However, it gets to the 'downloading' step and just sits there. I can tell by monitoring my network bandwidth that it's not doing anything. I also found Verizon's LG Update/Repair tool and it reports that the phone is already up to date and refuses to update it again.

Lg mobile doesnt work you need to dowload the verizon client.

Damn!! I need another heinekin. I've been tackling this problem ever since friday, took it to a Verizon store Saturday and all they could do is sell me a new phone..seriously? Tried multiple methods on 3 different Windows computers and nothing...... I already tried the Verizon client, it tells me my phone is already up to date and the 'update' button is greyed out.
Now for a glimmer of good news... you mentioned UpperCut, which I did download but haven't tried using yet, so i figured what the hell and I just tried running it. AVG reported it as a virus with some sort of trojan but what the hell, if it infects my laptop I'll deal with it. Whatever UpperCut did, it allowed me to get further than before ..
First... used UpperCut to flash VS98726B_03_1114_ARB00.kdz ... SUCCESS!! (But on Android 7, so no WiFi tether...but atleast it works!)
Second.. used UpperCut to flash VS98714A_00_0811_ARB00.kdz.... FAIL!! REFURBISH mode: After a minute on 'PrimaryGPT' step, it shows Error: 0x2BC, invalid command response code = 0x800000121. UPGRADE mode: The phone display gets up to 4% then it errors out, bricking the device again.
Soo...using UpperCut, it allowed me to flash the new Android 7 KDZ, but I want to roll back and that failed

It's not your cellphone LGUP won't let you rollback it's like a protection[I know right?]. I'm glad you could flash Nougat. I don't have wifi tether either since i don't use a verizon sim card.

If that's the case it's very misleading. It PASSES the 'anti-rollback' check. I've read on several forums that, atleast so far, there has been no restriction on rolling back using the KDZ files. It's bad enough that no one has figured out how to root the Verizon G5 yet, but it's totally intolerable for me not to have WiFi hotspot built in. I'm grandfathered on unlimited data and, while I try not to abuse it, it's my only available internet. I cannot get any other broadband internet where I live. Also, my Android head unit stereo in my truck pulls from my phone's hotspot. It's simply a MUST HAVE for me. Right now I've unpacked my old Galaxy S4 (Rooted + built in tether) to use until I get the G5 back up and running.
Worst case scenario, if I can't downgrade the phone.... I've observed how extremely easy it is to rebuild/repair the hardware of these phones (just look up the disassembly on YouTube). Therefore I can go on E-Bay, buy a VS987 with a busted glass screen for about a 100$ bucks that hasn't taken the Android 7 OTA yet and swap the main board to my unit. Cheaper than buying a whole new phone. I could even sell the Android 7 motherboard to make up the cost. I'm hoping I can solve this with a software flash first though.

So far.. there is no downgrading from N to M unless you have root to manually flash the downgrade... partition by partition.
The official LG flash tools currently don't allow N to M downgrading.
And UPPERCUT is virus-free... seems a few scans throw a false-positive.

Thanks for the clarification on the LG tool downgrading. On the 'trojan' virus in UPPERCUT, I half suspected as much. AVG isn't as bad as Avira used to be for me, but it still complains about 'unfamiliar' programs sometimes. Avira used to claim a utility I wrote in Visual Studio .NET was a virus. I sent them a message that it was a false positive and it stopped for a while...until a few updates later.

Lg Optimus P769 Security Error - LGST Download phase not working

So for about two weeks now my phone has been getting this LG Security Error (therefore rendering it useless). I was trying to install a newer version of CWM (I was using l9recovery.apk or whatever it was) and I forgot that my bootloader was locked. Since then my phone has been a paperweight. I put a lot of research into trying to fix it and everything has ended up in failure. I first tried the LG Mobile Support Tool. Everything worked until it got to the downloading phase (it just stops and ceases to work). Then I tried to recover it via Fastboot. This also failed because I couldn't get it to detect my device (I couldn't get the omap4430 drivers installed, either). So if anyone knows a way to fix the LGST downloading phase or a way to get Fastboot it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Otherwise, if this doesn't work, would you guys recommend a JTAG service from Ebay? This would be my last resort.

[Q] Load android on an LG Lancet

As the title says, Is there a way to load android onto an Lg Lancet running windows 8.1? My son picked this phone out and it was a cheaper phone to get so I said yes. I use android phones and this is our first Windows phone. I have been able to get the phone to do everything I want it to when it comes to tracking what my son does to help keep him safe, but in most cases i can not use the same software my wife and I use on our android devices. So...with that said, I would love to load android onto the phone and still have it working.
Forgot to mention that this is a Verizon Wireless phone.

I have been reading about dual booting, but I can not find anything about the Lancet. If I can not load Android by itself, is it possible to dual boot the phone?

Lg v10 h961n stucked in download mode

Hi everyone!
I recently bought a LG V10 h961n from eBay. I had no interest in root, so I updated it to marshmallow. However, I encountered huge wi-fi connectivity problems: the phone would connect to WiFi, but only really close to the router, and the latency was unexplainable high. The only workaround I have have found was a guide posted here in XDA which required root.
So, I started digging and I found a tot file of lollipop already rooted. I downloaded the kdz for lollipop hoping to downgrade using lgup and/or flash tool. All the flashing end with a 0x2000 error code in lgup and a "contact your system administrator" error on flash tool.
Now,the phone is stuck into download mode whatever button I press: power to boot normally, power+volume down or up.
The only combination working differently is volume up+down+power that bring me to the IMEI.
In the end, i was hoping that someone was able to find a solution. I really love this phone, and I would really feel bad if I had to throw it away and buy another one.
Thank you in advance.

Solved, just kept trying to connect to lg bridge. In the end it detected my phone and installed the os by clicking on "update error recovery". Hope you'll solve too!

And I'm not sure what to doesn’t to fix this problem. The warranty is void according to the Lenovo support site and in the country I’m in its not possible to get official service. So I decided to take matters on my own hands. The phone works Ok, mobile signal is functioning and I can make calls and everything, but can´t connect to any Wi-Fi network and it completely lost Bluetooth connectivity, so I want to do a Blankflash, or if it is possible, to go back to the previous version but I think this device have a rollback protection in the boot.img. That's not the issue. The issue is that Mac address has changed completely since after the Ota update, the device was perfect before that. No Wi-Fi no Bluetooth connection whatsoever after OTA, the device was as it came from factory, no modification no root, never flash it before to avoid any issue, and after the official OTA came it f.................. the device, ironically. Death. 02:00:00:00:00:00
The device was flashed after that by 2 different technicians and nothing, no fix, mobile connection it's correct, I can make and receive calls, but Wi-Fi and Bluetooth death. I want to flash it myself but I don't know what firmware to use I want to use a blank file but I don't know wish is it. Also need to know what it's the program to flash. I've worked with Samsung, Sony, an Chinese devices (Mtk) but not with Motorola. Please point me en the right direction. QPST you can use for all Qualcomm phones to fix the Mac address but this kind of discussion not allowed on xda. However you should still consider chip damage caused by unsuccessful update.

My wifi and bluetooth died right after warranty ended.
It was only then that I unlocked and rooted the phone since I found a supposed fix that required these.
Nothing worked to get wifi and bluetooth back.
After reading many other comments about lost wifi and bluetooth on moto z, I have come to believe it is hardware related.
Never buy anything from Motorola!
A seven hundred dollar piece of crap.
Same problem here. Wifi and BT stopped working from one day to the next. I tried various ROMs and restored the stock ROM, no success at all. There are not driver related error in the logfiles, however when the Wifi firmware is going to be loaded the error "no such devices" appears. Maybe its really an hardware issue.

From bricked to custom ROM in 2019 (GUIDE)

Here you go:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AshkuG2cY1T0xPZArSsy6iO1e_UnPw
This is a zip file with all the tools and files you need and instructions on how to use them.
What it covers:
Restoring bricked device (as long as download mode still works)
Unlocking bootloader (firmware dependent)
Rooting (any firmware)
Installing a custom recovery (any firmware)
Installing a custom ROM (any firmware)
I made this because all the guides for this phone were seemingly outdated, and some required tools and files were incredibly hard to find. Didn't want anyone else going through the pain I went through to break this phone open.
Thank you so much for uploading this. The charging port on my Nexus died and I have to use my old Note 2 as a backup, but I forget how this old piece of junk works. This should be very helpful.
I rooted and flashed twrp to boot to a triangle saying system software not authorized. Tried 3 firmwares and wont boot correctly. I got error about firmware update failed use kies... Kies won't do anything and kies 3 says unsupported device. On the 3rd firmware (root66 rooted stock ) firmware file I now am back to the original triangle system software not authorized by Verizon ..
How do I fix this?!?

Did you read my guide? You can't flash TWRP unless you successfully unlocked your bootloader with Casual, otherwise you are limited to SafeStrap. Also you can't restore with Kies, you have to use Odin and the files I've included to restore.

Nice to see people still looking for something like this, so my guide wasn't for nothing!
I was geeked to see this!! but then i got "This item might not exist or is no longer available"
I take it back.. i let it sit on the "failed" page for like 2 min, and randomly it popped up with a download!
Well the auto bootloader didn't work, so now i'm at the root section. However i'm getting an error where ADB isn't detecting my phone. USB debug is on, and i'm definitely in media mode and not installer. The phone shows up in windows and looks good, but adb doesnt detect. I opened command prompt and ran adb /? and found adb devices -l, and it reports "list of devices" and theres nothing in the list. I can't imagine why it's not seeing it. I tried turning on and off debug mode, switching from camera mode to media, changing usb ports. still nothing comes up, but windows sees it fine. grrrr
*edit, well since we can't delete posts i'll leave this here, because i have to. But what i did was re-open the "no you verizon" and it showed DISCONNECTED also. I changed usb ports like 3 times, turned usb debug on and off, changed from installer mode, to camera, to media mode, restarted the phone and the computer multiple times.. and then it just all of a sudden was detected again. So i went with it and it seems to have worked.
-it took 3 times to actually work, you noted it may take multiples, and it sure did. I ran it through the command prompt so i could read the text, and it took 5 times longer and reported much more stuff when it actually worked.
-final edit: if you can't unlock your bootloader, you're still stuck with ditto or alliance from 2014, and lots of apps won't update on android that old. So if you thought this guide was some holy grail, it is not. But still useful if you need the assist, so thanks to the author.
Hi, total noob here, I just bought Verizon note 2 at a yard sale but there is a pin I don't know. When I went to do a factory reset it booted into TWRP, so I am assuming is rooted. Do I need to be able to get into the phone to use your tools? I know nothing about TWRP. I would like to install a newer Android version and unlock it so I can use TMobile. Thanks
Something wrong...
when i try to load this file from the packages folder i get an error message:
"md5 error! Binary is invalid"
none of the other three works for me. they all come back ailed.
any suggestions?
awesome! thanks for posting this, just found my old note 2 and want to get it up and running again for the kids.
Kudos!
Used this to get my Note 2 up and going again temporarily until the Pixel 4a release...
NOTE: I had strange issues with Odin on my modern X570 board (USB 3.2 Gen 2) where I did not receive any errors, yet the process would randomly seem to time out. Sometimes I'd get stuck at flashing boot.img, sometimes it would hang up at the start, once I got to flashing system.img and it seemed to hang....
Used an older PC circa 2013, no issues! Not the first time I've had issues with this newer motherboard and older USB flashing interfaces; had the same issue on my Note 8 (RIP) as well.
excited to try this.
I'm on some rooted 4.4.2 stock-looking rom. Recovery doesn't look custom.
Hoping to be able to install a working Oreo or Pie ROM
great post, bought a couple of these for almost nothing and am having fun playing with them. sadly they are both 4.4.2 but its great fun anyway.
