Truesmart kicked off ATT - "2G phone" - Ornate TrueSmart

Not surprising, but now that ATT and others are shutting down 2G (so they say) my truesmart stopped working. Trying to explain to them that the phone does do 3G on 1900 is pointless. They don't care.
Does anyone know how they are stopping these phones from using their system? Is there a way to lock the phone into 3G 1900 *only* ? Are there any other *prepaid* carriers that use 1900 in the US that are more lenient with this?
I would like to still be able to use my phone and no desire to upgrade right now.
Thanks,
Betsy

You can try TMobile or Ting. Ting has special packages ideal for wearables. They will have 2 more years of support.

[Q]

Hi, Just purchased the hd2 T Mobile from USA. Which carriers can I use in Canada to activate this Phone? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
any of them(well, except any cdma only ones) but you will need an unlock code from online or from t mobile, and you won't get 3g
Thanks for the help samsamuel. I took it to one carrier and they told me it wouldn't work. The phone is unlocked. Why wouldn't I get the 3G.I want the plan that gives me internet mobile browsing. PS it was fido I took it to.
because fido uses 1900 for 3g, from what i've read, and the tmous uses 1700/2100 for 3g., and i think rogers uses 850/1900 and maybe 1900/2100 (just skimming google for this infofact is, though, that without the 1700 aws band,, no high speed data.
you will be able to get gprs and edge for browsing, but no 3g/hsdpa.
as to them saying it won't work, they're probably either making it up or meaning 3g
most canadian users fork out the extra for the telstra model if they want 3g.
Thanks. I guess this phone is useless to me, as I wanted to be able to access the internet without using the wifi.

you can, but only with gprs / edge speeds.
I had been considering buying an HD2 and trying to unlock it for use with an AT&T sim card for my current account. I knew that their networks were compatible, but I didn't realize that hsdpa was on different frequencies. I googled around a bit and it looks like AT&T uses 1900 mhz and Tmo uses 1700/2100. I can't verify if this info is correct ,but this could sure put a dent in my plans. Does anyone know for sure if an HD2 can be used on AT&T's 3g network?
there are several threads about how you can't. go read in the tmous specific section. plenty of confirmation that it doesn't.
3G Frequencies
Hi there!
I was wondering if there is a way to change those settings?? I have a T-Mo HD2, and maybe there is a way to make the phone work with the 3G technology in other frequencies besides the 1700 and 2100 MHz (I live in latin america, so it would have to use the 850Mhz frequency) Anyone please help me with this issue.
As one who unlocked a TMoUS HD2 to AT&T I can assure you that you will not get 3G anywhere in the US or Canada that I can find. On a bright note, it's a phone... With everyone else using 3G networks I find the Edge network to be utterly "unclogged" and find the speeds to be just fine for everything including streaming video.
PS: The phone was free but without a SIM card and I was an AT&T user - not to mention T-Mobile's network leaves a lot to be desired..
There is 3g service in Canada if you happen to be in an area where Wind Mobile is available. search Wind mobile coverage area.
We (family)have several cell phones I use the HD 2 on Edge and it doesn't bother me that its a little slower, actually when I did a quick check with my daughter on her 3g I hardly could tell the difference. I' m sure some will point out where I'm wrong. But I'm satisfied with edge because I enjoy the HD2.
Wind Mobile uses 1700/2100.

[Q] Atrix 3G with Cincinnati Bell Wireless?

I may have gotten in over my head and am wondering if anyone can advise if I just blew it or if there is something I can do.
I am a Cincinnati Bell Wireless (CBW) customer and am less than satisfied with the Motorola XT720 and Samsung Galaxy S.
I looked at the specs for the Atrix (3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 ) vs the Samsung (3G Network HSDPA 1700 / 2100 ) and since I thought CBW worked on 1700 and 2100) I thought the Atrix may work on it as I was under the impression that if any one of the 3G bands matched the phone would work.
As a side note - part of my issue with the Samsung is the GPS issues. Part of it is more the issue that CBWs 3G network is not super strong and hence I am on edge even in their 3G coverage area.
Anyhow, I can only get an edge connection. While roaming this week end I did get 3G from time to time. The simple answer may be that I screwed up and bought a phone that I can't get to work with Cincinnati Bell Wireless, but I thought I would place a post out here to see if I am overlooking something. Something odd like AT&T locking out the 2100 or something that there may be a hack to open up which would let the phone work with CBW on 3G or something like that.
If anyone has ideas I would appreciate it. The Atrix is an awesome phone. Not sure that I am ready to pay the AT&T rates over what I have with CBW, especially without unlimited data so I thought I'd put a post out here and see if there is something I can try.
Thanks!
Hey man,
Im in the Cincinnati Market as well and have been with ATT for about, well since they were Ameritech. (long time) i have the Atrix and Lapdock and have been researching switching to CBW for the savings of about 100 per month for my 5 phone plan. I think that the 3g should work but havent verifited that yet. i have unlocked my phone and am taking it to the florence mall CBW to try a demo phone sim to see if i can get 3g. i currently average 1.5 mg download and .5 up load, i have noticed a difference in the towers, in some areas i can get up to 4.5 mb download and 1.5 upload on ATT 3g towers, My ATT guy says that the 4g towers will be turned on in September. should be way faster then. so i will let you know what i find out when i try the CBW sim. but im still unsure about the switch because CBW girl says their 4g is a ways off.
Good luck.
Thanks. Look forward to hearing back. At the moment i cant get it to work and cbw says it won't work.

Any updates on whether the Atrix would work on CBW? I've been debating if I should switch over to Cincinnati Bell when my Verizon contract is up.
Right now all I can say is that voice and edge work but not 3G data. Personally I am getting fed up with some of CBWs practices and policies. The best i have to say is they have an unlimited data option.

The 2100 3g band is for Europe only. The atrix will not work anywhere in north America on the 2100 band and it does not have the 1700 band. Unless your carrier lets you roam on att you will not be able to use 3g

Confirmed: TMOUS Radar does 3G on AT&T

(Forking original thread)
I confirmed that the TMOUS Radar *is* capable of 3G on AT&T.
I unlocked it this morning and put in a prepaid AT&T SIM (GoPhone). HTC Connection Setup ran and a few minutes later I was on AT&T with 3G support. The phone recognizes the HSPA+ signal and lights up the indicators with the '4G' label.
The phone's box says it supports UMTS 1900 -- this fact is not listed in any other spec I've seen on-line for the device. That band is only one of the 2 AT&T use for UMTS, so if you are unlucky and have only 850 then 3G/4G probably won't work. Guess AT&T uses 1900 where I am.
Do you know of any way to tell which band at&t uses in various areas?
Sorry, I don't know of any way to know that. I am not an AT&T expert -- knowing whether the phone could be used w/ AT&T 3G was an academic exercise for me just to satisfy curiosity.
What did you use for unlock?
Wonder if it'll work, roaming on AT&T 3G, with a T-Mo US prepaid SIM...

I got the unlock codes from T-Mobile.

[Q] Unlocked Tmo Amaze 4G purchase/setup questions

Hi guys,
I'm from Aus and trying to get a non-savvy US (Cali, splitting time between Sac and SF) friend set up with an unlocked phone suitable for short-term US and overseas use due to travel requirements. The Amaze 4G looks great. I've tried to find answers, but would like some knowledgable eyeballs on my proposal:
1. A US website currently has the Amaze 4G for $479.50 which is much cheaper than all other options. Is this legit? Is there only the X715M model out there, or is this a predecessor?
2. Are all unlocked 'Tmo' Amaze 4G phones able to operate on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 as well as UMTS 1700/2100, both physically and as allowed by the carrier? Any weird APN/data connectivity restrictions due to unlocked phone?
3. Can this phone connect to Tmo at 3G speeds if AWS is unavailable? I read somewhere that 3G 1900 would be required, and this phone doesn't appear to have that?
4. I want to get it on the $30/m walmart/tmo prepaid plan (5G uncapped is plenty of data) but can't see how to order just the sim via their website. should I just have my friend go into walmart? prefer not to muck around with simplemobile if possible - ironically, i want to keep this whole enterprise as simple as possible with a big carrier/theoretically good support.
5. Is this idea, for use in the US primarily but also overseas over the next 12 or so months, future-proof for a couple of years? e.g. I've read about tmo working on HSPA 1900MHz, but hopefully AT&T remains an option if Tmo ends up being unsatisfactory for any reason.
Thanks for having a read, hoping to tie this up ASAP. Much love for any responses.

1. 479 sounds legit for phone, i dont know about x715m but i do know that us tmobile version is compatible with all bands networks.
2. Yes all US tmobile amaze 4g operate on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 as well as UMTS 1700/2100, both physically and as allowed by the carrier. As far as apn you would need to set up your apn settings according to the network you are using.
3. If no AWS available then only 2g Edge will work, although I have called tmobile and asked if amaze 4g unlocked will be able to use att's hspa network and they said yes amaze and sg2 are only phones capable of that meaning they were built with future proof in mind. I also seen around that tmobile version has all 3g network bands but not sure myself.
4. Easiest would be to have friend pay and pick up the sim card at walmart but i do remind you it is 30/m- 100 min and 5gb of 4g speeds CAPPED, but 2g edge speeds after the 5gb. Simple mobile is 60/m - unltd talk unlt text and 2gb of 4g speeds capped then 2g edge speeds after just depends on your preference.
5. This is a good idea as att will stil be an option and now that att failed to buy tmobile, att has come to an agreement in a roaming contract with tmobile for 7 years.
hope this helps you a little bit more in what ever you decide, good luck!
thanks mate, helped confirmed a few things in my mind.
Negri said they're on backorder so I went ahead and ordered the phone from an Amazon seller for $500. I can only hope everything's legit - I'm not too sure what the dangers of this option are. My best idea is just to use the phone heavily in the first week after getting it and make sure everything works.
now i just need a "beginners guide to android" to help the friend work through the basics... google time.
Is this your first Android phone?

nope, i've had a HTC Hero and currently run a SGS2. I bought the Amaze for a friend who's new to Android due to Apple's stupid GSM-only unlocked phones, and their lack of 1.7ghz for tmo.
we'll get through it, tho after 15 mins of googling, there's a distinct lack of good "idiot user's (not programmer's) guide to android" articles/books. will write something up myself, i think.
my response to you above is more fishing for people's ideas about how Amazon sellers can be dodgy, esp. when pretty much every website is still doing the Amaze for $6-700.. I wondered if there were any potential pitfalls with the $500 price.

I bought mine from eBay. It was used for a week with everything and he gave me an Incipio case. I bought it for $445. I was happy with it.

From what i understand, this phone has UMTS/HSPA+ support for 850,1700/2100aws/1900mhz and 2100mhz. Pretty much anywhere in the world that uses those.

[Q] Have Made The Switch From THE EVIL AT&T Empire!!

So At&t Finally got Ballsy and changed my unlimited data plan on my Atrix 4g. needless to say it breached my contract and i got out of there.. Now, here is my dillemma. I have everything working, Phone Data SMS. but im stuck on edge , i know its because of the missing 1700mhz band, but seeing how its a standard radio and a world phone, there has got to be a way to modify the frequencies it scans right? o ya im on the tmo network, which is the only gsm provider which is close enough to be able to use the atrix fully, any help guys would be greatly appreciated , and i have NO problem donating to anyone who might be able to solve this,

It's a hardware thing. In the U.S., the only frequencies the Atrix can use for 3G/HSPA+ is 850/1900. Whereas T-mobile uses 1700/2100.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...nt-4g-hspa-phone-will-not-be-covered-by-both/
Now, don't take my word for it but I believe the 2100 UMTS band (which is essentially the HSPA band) is for using as a "World Phone", meaning it can access 3G bands abroad but not here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
Also, the 2100 band that T-mo uses is an AWS band which AT&T cannot use at all. I just wanted to point out that there are some underlying technologies that probably cannot be altered by software.

Because of "tethering" , which is described in many ways all except which are correct and "high data usage"
