The problem:-
1- restarts many times.
2-randomly shut down when i open Wi-Fi or apps or use it for more than 5 mins.
3-can't turn on sometimes and can't turn on using charger , only pc companion.
4-Burning Smell.
i know there's another thread talks about this problem but pleaese it's a serious common problem , i bought the mobile yesterday and i can't replace it , i've seen this post in SE forms : -
............................................................................................................
It cost about more than 2 hours, and i sat near the engineer looked at what he was doing, everything.
1. He said before this one,he has fix 4 x10 with the same problem. He checked my phone and told me he must take the phone to parts,i agreeed.
2.The restart problem is neither a software problem nor briefly hardware problem. The reason most likely is welding procedure .Between X10's CPU and the chassis on the M/B there is no bayonet(i'm not sure it's the right word), so the closeness of them only depends on colophony(another word i use google to translate it) and solder (the third one).He said when x10 is koncked or bumped, fissure or something others may appear, and when CPU runs at a high level, the ammeter shows a number above 200mA,you can think its fever.Because goods expand with heat and contract with cold, here comes the flexibility. It may influence the contact between cpu and chassis. So the restart happens. He get the CPU off M/B,clear and rebuilt solder on them very carefully, and packed everything back.THIS COST TWO HOURS.
3.When parts became back to a phone,I push sim card,sd card back, truned it on,it booted successed. Then i run the Backup and Restore app,no problem. Before repaired erverytime i run it, the phone restarted.view www web use the brower by 3G, opened servel windows,no problem;Played Asphalt 5 for 10 mins, the phone became hot, still no problem. So i paid for it and left. That cost fuxk 500RMB,nearly 100$!!!!!!!!!!
4.When the engineer was soleing it, i talked to him,he said G7 also has a lot of problem,G7 use the smae CPU as x10,it also may restart.

anyone tried this?????

and btw the phone works well when it's cold but it shut down when it's worm or using Wi-Fi or Calling . so to re-operate it you need to put it in air conditioner then but the battery back and switch on
So far no problem.
By the way the phone had no warranty?
yea , i bought it used and it looks that someone bought it from china and sell it here so the warranty doesn't cover my country.
thanx for telling me that x10 doesn't have another factory problems.
i send it today to one of those small repair places , they said the IC's are burned because of short circuit or something like that so we'll see what will happen tomorrow.
it cost me around 100$ but it doesn't matter as long it work.
sorry to say it but you buy cheap, you get cheap. might have to shell out for some repair work or ditch it and buy a new one. hard luck man.

my friend I am sorry but there is no quick fix for something like this. To repair SMT type circuit boards you need a clean room environment and also some very expensive equipment. My advice is to get a new handset, there are a few people on here that need some parts for their phones and you can off set the cost of a new handset that way.
thanx for the advice , i'll replace it with one that works and with a warranty . this will be my last time buying cheap S***, i really like it and i hope they release android 2.0 soon for it.

As I said there are people who need parts, so it will not be a total loss!
where are you located? I need a few bits.
Tomorrow i'll sell it with around 150 dollar, i'll replace it with another X10 but with WARRANTY this time
just found this thread and it seems to describe my problem with my x10. If the crashing is heat related would using a cpu underclock help?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831658 for more info
my phone doesnt charge the battery, but charging animation is playing, gave to service centre, they told motherboard replacement, but that told we dont do for the handsets without warranty.... pls help how can i sort this prob.
I don't agree with the first post, I had this problem too, and the problem was bad, but as soon I as I flashed with the latest firmware, that problem seems to have been fixed, gone by 2 days without any restarts.
i also have this problem.
The worse is now my charged battery will become red low batt at first and recharge itself back to normal without plug in power...i think i just solve the world energy problem here.
May have fixed the problem, for a bit.
I bought one of these used (x10a), I basically got ripped off by some guy that must have known about the issue. Anyway, I tore the phone apart down to the screen, I left that intact. I cleaned the housing, motherboard and sound jack with compressed air (lightly), cleaned contacts that looked a little dull. I noticed the foil covering the CPU and other components was a little askew and there were some heat bubbles forming. I used a mini spatula as a squeegee and got rid of the bubbles, cleaned up the edges around the foil to insure they didn't contact their neighbors and put the thing back together.
Before this I could use the phone for a call for longer than 2 minutes, the second I ended the call it would crash/reboot. Same with playing games and listening to music at the same time. Movies, forget it. I don't want to curse it because it has only been a day, but no crashes yet and I'm doing/running everything I can to try and get this thing to crash. If it was the bubbles contacting other metal in the chassis then they will probably return sometime in the future.
Who knows.
For now, I say it's fixed. I hope.
I downloaded the schematic and disassembly, reassembly instructions off the net.
UPDATE: Cleaning did not work, I really didn't think it would but it was worth a try. I did however rebake the main board in my convection oven for 10 minutes at 210 degrees Celsius and it worked. I have uploaded videos to youtube. If you're like me, no warranty and don't mind tearing things apart. Check out my videos on youtube, do a search for MrSpywhite.
I had the same problem and SE replaced the motherboard.

That sounds like good news, I have a friend with a similar problem, but his phone has the same behaviour faster than yours... did really work? any problems after the bake? (mic, speaker) ?
Sorry for bumping in a old thread but I am also facing the same problem i guess. Anyone got it to work ?
The motherboard is costing me Rs.8000 ( 160$ approx ) and its a 2 yr old phone. Cant spend that much now on such an old phone.
This solution might help on that cases, as main reason for such things are Pb free soldering (small balls between CPU and MB).

Of course you do it on your own risk...
I bought a new optimus one via ebay a month back.Initially my battery lasted like a day at avg usage.I was not satisfied, but it was ok.Abt 3 weeks back some water seeped up to my phone and as a result the water indicators turned red.
The phone worked ok and i had no issues then.I was in LOL rom.
A week back i noticed increased battery drain 13% instaed of the usual 6% overnight with everything turned off, even edge.
I decided to show the phone to service centre and put back the stock rom v1e two days back.
Now-
The battery is acting weird. It shows random values as charge left.doesnt fill to 100% even with charging overnight. At 6% i connected charger and browsed.I was at 2% after 30mts.
One more thing i noticed in juice defender log was that when i connected phone to charger and used it the charger kept disconnecting and connecting again.
Now the Qns
1.is there anyway i can claim warranty?Does an old water contact void the warranty?
2.wats the cost of a new battery in india.
3.can i get the charger replaced under warranty as it gets disconnected on moving the phone.?
4.is there anyway i can remove the water indicator colour?
5.is there any other fix for my beloved battery?
Thanx for reading this.
Well I am not a geek to answer 1,3,4 nd 5.
But I could answer 2
OEM LG 1500maH O1 Battery cost 3150 Rs
Ref : hXXp://www.fommy.co.in/LG/LG-OEM-1500-mAh-Lithium-Ion-Standard-Battery-P89950.htm
Replace XX with tt
1. YES ! It voids the warranty anywhere in the world.
2. ^^What he said
3. Yes you should be able to if the problem is pronounced.
4. Google is your friend. There are many methods shown. Although I do not recommend doing that.
5. Replace the battery with a new one or a friend's cell *Same model obviously.* Check and use, if error persists, it may be a problem with the phone too. In which case reflash ROM and try again. If not , YOUR battery is definitely the problem, in which case just have it replaced. You can't "repair" it in any way.
thanx guys for the replies..3000 is like too much for a batterry.thats almost 30% of the cost of phone.will go to the service centre on tuesday and get the service centre prices.
One thing i doubt is whether the accessories and battery is original.I bought it from ebay.the box came unopened and the warranty card had no seal.I have the bill though.
hey i called LG toll free number and they gave me a bunch of service centre numbers. As i am currently in mumbai i called the mumbai service centre first.they had the p500 in stock price was 1003.
since i had my bill back home inj kerala i called a service centre near my home.price 800.
cochin price 850
Thane price 995
How come the price differs in different service centres?
I specifically enquired if the price includes vat etc .the ans was yes.
Hi everyone,
It's kind a special question because of the following :
- Xperia Ray is my girldfriend device. I'm iPhone 4 user (hopefully XPERIA S user when ICS will be launched on it).
-> I'm not familiar with Android terms (flash, rom, bootloop, etc.)
- It must be an hardware problem due to the situation but still want to try the basic test with your help.
Now the fact :
My gf just dropped her SE XPERIA RAY as if she want to put it on table but she missed it... By the way the back protection opened on the small crash but the battery stay on the device.
XPERIA RAY doesn't boot so we try at home with the battery charger (with and without battery) -> that is the only way we can have a bootloop.
Description of the bootloop: (Ray is obviously power off) : when on charge it tries to power on(boot) (Sony Ericsson text logo) during 4-5sec then black screen (power off), 30s to 1mn later same process, looping during all the time battery charger is used.
No other way to have anything on the screen...
As I said it must an hardware but did you guys have any tests so I can try to boot entirely?
I try :
1- Simple power on : nothing
2- Simple power on + "home button" or + "volume up button" ou + "volum down button" : nothing
3- On Battery charger : boot loop
4- On battery charger + every possible physical button (as pt.2) : boot loop
5- Connected USB to PC : nothing ( so no PC-C software can be used to repair... )
6- Connected USB to PC with volume UP button pressed : nothing
I just don't understand why, in case of an hardware problem (something jumped away or moved during the crash), it can "try to" boot during few seconds (then bootloop as described before)...
I apologize for my poor english (I'm french) and will stay tuned to this topic for any complementary details...
If you have any suggestion...
By the way, I didn't by it on shop (it was second-hand but never used (still packaged)) so I didn't have warranty paper. Is there any way I can contact Sony Ericsson (Sony now...) to send us the device. It is a 2011 model, hopefully still on constructor warranty...?
Thank you in advance.
Nico.
I suppose you had it fully stock, because you are not familiar with Android.
If phone is turned off, start charging battery. Does the screen show charging screen?
Sony doesn't have own service centers, the only way to let them repair is taking back to the shop, where it was bought. In your case, you should visit local mobile repair shop, it just doesn't go under warranty then.

The phone is always turned off and no I only have bootloop described on my first post.
Thank you for your answer about Sony SC. I already contact local mobile repair shop and off course they said me I won't be under warranty.
XPERIA RAY cost me about 200€, didn't want to repair it for 100€ ^_^
Did you think I can sell it (for pieces) and how much?
Thank you again for the quick answer, apreciate.
Since you are unable to enter also flashmode, there is some bigger error in hardware.
About selling pieces...I don't think you could sell it, maybe screen for someone, who has ruined it, but other parts will probably stay for you.
But, as for the phone more...200€ brick. At least you could use your phone for some throwing contest, I have heard about some phone throwing contests...maybe you can win a new one
Sorry, but I am out of ideas for now.
I can sell screen & battery...
Thank you
First of all, why shouldn't it be under warranty? If you have the receipt, just take it where you bought it from and tell them to fix it. You dont have to tell them that dropping it caused it to bootloop, i have dropped my Active loads of times, and the only thing that would make the shop where i bought it that i screwed up is if i brought it piece by piece to them
Take it to get fixed. Just tell them it started doing it this morning.

mine selling the phone to me cheap?
Okay so I know this is a kind of an old thread but I want people to know how to solve this issue as I had it too.
The moment your xperia ray fell from the table it absorbed an ammount of shock and blablabla, anyways the shock vibrates through the body and in most cases will mess up your battery contacts!
Mine was the most right one of the 3 battery contact sets which had been pushed in and thus not being able to connect or just slightly making it impossible to boot from the battery itself.
How to fix it?
There are 2 ways to fix it if your battery contacts have been damaged (if you don't know for sure you can still try them, I am not responsible for any damage you may do though!)
1. get a pincet and softly pull the contacts back, they are spring loaded and the shock probably got them stuck inside of the machine. A slight pull will do.
2. get a 2mm thin card (cellphonecard or something) and cut a tiny piece of it. Then before you insert the battery just put the piece of the card in the corner of the lower side of the battery input place. Then place the battery and push it down till you can attach the back cover.
Et voila, your device should boot, charge and be recognized by the pc again!
Thanks a lot, this last solution fixed mine
Hi All,
My S2 just died two days back while getting charged. The phone just won't turn on. This happened once previously and i got my motherboard replaced from the Samsung Authorised Service Centre at the cost of INR 9,000 [USD 150] (almost at 1/3rd the purchasing price of the phone).
This time i went to a third party repair vendor in Mumbai, India called phonecare.in
They are telling me that the power IC on the motherboard has fried and it needs to be replaced quoting a price of INR 2,000 [USD 30]. They also advised me that overcharging the phone like keeping it on charge while sleeping makes the IC burn out. Is that true? Please let me know.
Also, any Indian users here, please let me know your feedback on phonecare.in as well.

Nandi

dude i have also same problem..
does your problem solved after changing POWER IC ???
i am also from INDIA
Replied to your PM
Well, I too faced the same problem.
Do you have an update to share?
I bought my S2 in June, 2011.
Day before yesterday it was connected to my PC via USB and suddenly it just stuck on boot screen.
No Recovery mode but, yes I could access Download mode. (I still can access Download mode)
I tried flashing the stock firmware but it would not pass NAND WRITE START..tried flashing siyah kernel...would not pass NAND WRITE START.
Showed it at a local service centre..They say I need a motherboard replacement (standard answer)...Cost: Rs. 8,852/-
My phone was pretty good till date & if I don't get it serviced it would just be an "EXPENSIVE PAPERWEIGHT".
I just want to ask if a JTAG can solve the problem? Or like you suggested in your post.. by changing the power IC ?
If not, is it viable to spend so much on a 2.7 year old phone?
Any suggestions?

mine have same problem heat up on charging no recovery no download mode.may be JTAG can solve our problem
JTAG very very unlikely to work, so don't pay somebody upfront to try a JTAG - only try a JTAG if they're prepared to do so on the basis of 'you only pay them if a JTAG is possible/successful' or you're just throwing money away you could be putting towards actually having the phone fixed.
the local repair shop owner said it'll take 3-4 days to replace the Motherboard so i told him to call me when he'll get the motherboard as he doesn't have currently in his shop..
SO he'll call me within 3-4 days when he'll receive motherboard and I'll get my motherboard replace from him... he has already told me it'll be genuine and I've pics of my old Motherboard for future reference in case he'll do some other stuff on my Old Motherboard to wok it again..
BTW does Imie changes when motherboard gets replaced ???
and can i check on my motherboard at home whether which part of it if gets Shot-circuited or not ???

Did any of you try changing the power IC? I was so dumb that I missed to back up some data..
I also face the same issues, phone dead; and power IC (area near the camera) heating up while charging the phone..
I just want to get my data out..:crying: Please help!!
To add there is no short circuit and the service center has advised to change the motherboard.. My friends have the same issue, we got the phone together in June 2011.

Phone is safe (dead) with me, I bought a OPO the same week. Being without a phone was impossible.
I had some contacts backup which was a year old and that helped to get about 80% of my contacts.
No use
I also had the same problem.i went to the samsung service center in chennai, they said it needs a mother board replacement which will costs me 9000RS so i took back my phone. Now i dont know what to do with it.
You have 2 options......
1) pay for the repair.
2) bin the phone and buy something else.
Replacing individual components on these boards is near impossible......nobody can give you a 100% guarantee of success, unless they have access to Samsung's automated computer controlled production line.....hand soldering simply is not possible.
This is why the only realistic option to repair the device is to replace the entire board....If anybody tells you any different, they're trying to con you.....

Dear All,
Here is a recap of my phone.
1st time - Authorised Repair Center - To change the charging pin as it is no longer fast charging
Root Cause - might enter dirt or sand
2nd Time - Non Authorised Repair Center - To change the screen as my phone is exposed to rain water. Service guy says that post 1st service they might not reseal it properly therefore it is no longer IP53.
3rd Time - Non Authorised Repair Center - Post screen replacement, the camera is not working, opening the stock camera apps leads to crashing, camera only works with google camera. Return back to the repair center to fix.
4rd Time - Non Authorised Repair Center - Phone suddenly hard bricked, after shutting it down at night. The guy says this has to do with the firmware (I doubt his script). He managed to unbrick it.
Excess of 30 days post 4rd repair in a hot and humid condition, I shut down my redmi note 10 for charging. Thereof it is not charging and hard brick again.
Additional information
1. Move from Authorised to Non Authorised as one year warantty is over for my phone
2. 2/3/4 - Non Authorised Repair Center is the same shop
3. Phone is no longer responding to fastboot/charging/usb charging/volume down & power button manipulation
My objective of writing here is two
1. Retrieve the media from my internal memory
2. Unbricked my phone
Look forward for comments from you all.
I owe you all a good cup of coffee.
Thanks in advance.
It just seems like a motherboard failure.
@gabsvm1 , can we deduce the water seep into the motherboard and damage the whole thing? As far as i know, the unauthorised repair guy say no mould and no extensive water damage, just the screen....I doubt his word. Unauthorised service guy says that the next time it happen again he might need to "wash" the processor.
Quick update, while toying MiFlashPro my device manager is showing other device with name of QUSB_BULK_CID:040E_SN:XXXXXXX
Let me know if there is any progressive steps from here.
