What is the absolute easiest way to root my phone? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just recently upgraded to 6.0.1, now I'm looking to reroot my phone again. What's the absolute easiest way to root a phone? I just want it so I can install SuperSU and the Xposed Framework.

Easiest way are apps like kingroot, however they don't work on all devices. The surefire way and safest way is to unlock b/l, flash TWRP (or other custom recovery), flash SuperSU zip with TWRP.
What device is it?

[Q] Unroot method that DOESN'T wipe?

I have been searching and haven't found this, forgive me if it's out there.
Is there an unroot method for the GTab 10.1 Wifi that DOESN'T wipe and return to stock? I want to install a custom ROM and go back and forth between root as my company doesn't allow their Good for Enterprise app to work on a rooted device.
Thanks!
Delete /system/bin/su, then system/app/superuser.apk and reboot. I have done it and all the signs of root were gone. Also I've read that superSU from market does the job, but never tried it. Either way, afaik, the only way to be 10000% certain is to flash a clean, stock rom.

OTA root keeper is working with google play movies to temperarily unroot even works for OTA updates
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m9yZy5wcm9qZWN0dm9vZG9vLm90YXJvb3RrZWVwZXIiXQ..
Others have tried OTA root keeper without success with Good for Enterprise (GFE).
I tried SuperSU (which is a cool app!) without any luck. I tried it both with and without a rooted kernel. GFE still detects root even when it's been "turned off" in SuperSU.
I will next try to permanentally unroot via SuperSU and hope it doesn't wipe.

Permanent unroot works in SuperSU to unroot and allow Good for Enterprise to work on my tablet. I can always reflash the rooted update.zip file to gain root again if I need to.
Success! This allow root to be removed and not wipe the Galaxy Tab.

Which Galaxy Tab do you have? I have the Tab Pro 8.4 and I tried to do permanent unroot with SuperSU and GFE complained. What version of GFE was it? Did you do anything else after unroot?

Lol. This was from 2 years ago man. It was the original Galaxy Tab 10.1
I have no idea which version if GFE it was, but I'm sure this thread is old and dead now.

I guess we must downgrade, root, flash recovery and then flash a pre-rooted ftf

[Q] how can i root nexus 9 without custom recovery?

Hello. I want to root my nexus 9 without installing any custom recovery. I want this because i want to receive google updates...
And sont suggest me about "install custom recovery and when you need flash the stock etc.)
Thanks in advance
Wrong forum. This is a dev forum, not Q&A. Rooting w/out custom recovery is possible with chainfire's autoroot flashable zips. But still you won't receive OTA updates b/c since Lollipop the validation process has changed and you need to be pure stock. This also includes the recovery iirc.
Moved to correct forum
Just root it. You don't need custom. Use the nexus tool kit

Since when does rooting prevent OTA updates? Thats the first time I hear that.
On my N10 I always booted only into TWRP (fastboot boot twrp.img) and flashed from there the supersu.zip and still got OTAs without any issues.
I sold my N10 and my N9 is currently on the way to me so Im preparing everything to unlock and root it as soon as it arrives, thats why I am checking all those threads right now regarding root.
Well, I read only about this root injecting methode which doesnt sound very good to me and the nexus toolkit methode. Isnt it possible to boot into TWRP like I did before? Why shouldnt this work on the N9?

My bad. I should have said you will not be able to install OTA if you are rooted. The install script checks system files and if anything has been modified, it aborts installation. Your better option is to fastboot flash the Google factory image.
So what is the current working root methode for 5.1.1 without losing OTA or flashing any recovery?
This injecting thing, nexus toolkit or another way?
--edit--
seems like CF-Auto-Root (special version for the N9) works also? Im right now having 40 windows open in chrome, trying to find the best way...
Question is, does it still work for 5.1.1?
Again: Why should not boot into TWRP and then flash the supersu zip not work? Any issues with that?
Please share your experience. Thanks

It's a Nexus device. The easiest root method is to fastboot flash TWRP, the download SuperSU and flash it in recovery. Link here > http://download.chainfire.eu/740/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.49.zip

Alright, so the 'usual' way works as always, thanks for clearing this up. Was wondering if there were still some issues with rooting the N9.
So you suggest the beta version of supersu, will give a try first to the stable one, if this doesnt work ill try the beta.
Thanks m8

Stable should work for Lollipop. Beta necessary for M. And beta works fine on Lollipop, too, FWIW.

Xperia Z3v: GFE on Rooted Z3v 5.0.2?

GFE on Rooted Z3v 5.0.2?
Followed the guides for the Verizon Sony Xperia Z3v & managed to upgrade to Android 5.0.2 with root access. I was ecstatic until I was told by my IT Administrators, that Good For Enterprises will not run/work on a rooted device. (Followed this guide exactly Guide)
I know it sucks, but I have to have Good For Enterprises for work. So...
1. What is the best way unroot so I can resume using GFE?
2. What will happen to the XZ Dual Recovery I've installed? Is it possible to keep custom recovery & get rid of root access, so that I can still flash new firmware in the future?
Thanks in advance!
did you try rootcloak?
As I understand it, to get back to stock will require flashtool and flashing the stock sony file.

Yes, unfortunately rootcloak plus does not currently work for Lollipop & Good For Enterprises. Thank you for the thought though.

I don't need to get back to stock, rather, I need to "un-root" the device so it will pass the GFE compliance check. In SuperSU there is a Full unroot option. Would that work to unroot the device? If I select that option, what happens to the custom dual recovery I installed per the previously posted guide on how to root & flash Lollipop?

Going back to stock is the way to fully unroot. You can try the unroot function in the SuperSU app but I can't 100% guarantee that is enough for gfe to work.
I am uncertain if you can keep dual recovery when not rooted.

Thank you all for the help. Ran the full unroot option in SuperSU, rebooted, installed GFE now works. Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!
So you were on 5.02 rooted and using SuperSU you unrooted and rebooted for it to work? Can you root again using SuperSU just using the app after installing GFE?

Yes, that's correct. I used SuperSU to unroot, reboot, & then GFE was able to go through the full activation process. My understanding of GFE is that anytime the GFE Service starts, it does a compliance check & if it discovers root, it will force close the app. This is what was occurring when I tried to activate the GFE license with root access. It would activate & then when it went to start the GFE Service it would force close the app.
I have not tried to reroot with SuperSU to see if GFE will work once activated with root access. My guess from reading different forums is that it will not. I will try in a month or two after some time has passed for the IT guys at my company, to re-root the device & see if I can use GFE with the phone rooted.

did you see if that good for enterprise-root module on xposed that may have worked.

Any way to bypass the read-write switch with root or xposed?

This is the bane of the Z3v in my opinion. The only way I have been able to get write access to the root partition is to run a root exploiter like KingRoot. It would be nice to just install a custom rom, but I'm not sure if I can use Paranoid Android since it is made for the Z3, not Z3v.
I'm rooted with Kingroot atm (because I couldn't figure out how to remove it. SuperSU-me didn't work.) and on 5.1.1.

I am in the exact same boat. At least I am able to debloat the software a bit. KingRoot is not nice though, and Purify is the worst. Took me a few tries to get that off my system.
As far as i remember you just have to flash the pre-rooted lollipop in the section and it will remove kingroot and let u use supersu.
