For Archos 101/70 etc
here is the link now lets get to work
http://www.archos.com/support/download/software/sources/gen8-gpl-froyo.tgz
Custom ROMs like HTC Sense builds and Motoblur and Cyanogenmod should be more straightforward now.
Sent from my Ideos S7 using XDA App
Root access and custom recovery are steps 1 and 2. Then that can happen. Hopefully Root isn't far away.
Fingers crossed because the froyo release archos delivered was a BIG disappointment for many..
Waiting for root and recovery.
Then, we can flash custom rom and kernel to the Archos tablet.
Really disappointed on the speed. At the beginning, I think 1G cpu should be really fast .... but now @ froyo, the speed is really slower than my Nexus one (very very much slower...)
Especially when doing multiple web-page browsing and heavy network loading, my Archos 70 lag lag lag all the time....
Hope Archos will release a fix that optimize the power of the machine very soon.

While you are correct, I think the reason is not only limited to 800Mhz.
I set my Nexus One to 806Mhz and still find out the response and speed are much higher than my Archos 70 running at full speed (setcpu to 1000Mhz)
There must be something wrong in the firmware and the wifi driver that is not optimized such that the machine looks generally much much slower than any other android systems running at the same frequency.
Yes, 2.2.1 on Archos 70 s***s
+1
My Milestone downclocked to 250 mhz is faster than my Archos 70 at 800 or 1000 mhz....
Root access will complete the froyo update

Yeah but your nexus one also has double the memory, and it seems that the JIT doesnt work the same on the Archos 2.2 build , quadrant and linpack scores are pretty much the same from 2.1 to 2.2, where as on every phone 2.2 double or sometimes triple the linpack scores.

The problem with Archos 70 is the screen size and less RAM
The nexus one has a much smaller resolution for the CPU to draw while it has double the amount of RAM
End of story.
**Notice there's no GPU acceleration in Android UI even at 2.3. Wait till Honeycomb for that.

oh my, i didn't know the N1 packed that many pixels...
sorry about the bad inform.
Then it's the CPU: Cortex A8 vs Snapdragon
and : 256MB vs 512MB of ram
but since both CPU clocked at 1GHz, most likely it's the ram that's not sufficient.
What would help is the ability to disable Multitask in apps except selective ones by user.
I guess Apple was RIGHT when they choose to not implement MULTITASK in the earlier iPhones. These also have limited RAM, only 128MB... leaving only 40MB after iOS boot up.
I'd be happy with my Archos with minimum Multitasking. Just music apps get multitask.
(I use Auto Memory Manager to auto kill apps when my memory hits certain level)
Guys, is it possible to speed up the tablet? The new rom works good, but sometimes it hangs a lot.. So is it possible too disable memory-eating processes??

Well You can use a task killer app to keep memory clear if you want. There are also several threads on Archosfans.com's forums about using z4root (only temp root at the moment) and the SetCPU to speed up the CPU to 1Ghz, and raise the min. clock value too.
I have mine on min. 800 and max. 1000 Mhz ... except when screen is off. Feels quite smooth, though when memory is full, it still gets a bit laggy.
I read somewhere that they have JIT disabled too.... dont quote me, but I read it from a thread that referenced another thread that said this other guy knew it was disabled...
I did read it somewhere, but I don't know if its true.
If the build.prop is any indication then it is not enabled. There is no command there to enable JIT like is on my other devices that have 2.2.

Interesting. If JIT is disable, then we're loosing a lot of performance just because of that. That and the under clocked 800 is a double kill.
Archos is rushing to put our a patch soon from what I've heard. The patch is suppose to include Flash and the JIT enabled. If this is the case, then the patch will do wonders for performance.

This will be nice if true. I just hope they don't rush like they did with the first 2.2. I would rather wait a little bit to have more things working correctly.
If JIT was disabled on this build it would explain a lot. I had my A70 with 1.0.84 for day or two and it worked "faster" than with this froyo update. I'm no expert but... Archos was under lot of pressure to deliver 2.2 on Gen8 so they probably rushed it. I was gonna wait for better firmware of 2.2 but I didn't want to install all apps and then reinstall from scratch on 2.2. They are making these firmwares every 2-4 weeks so soon we will probably see another update. cajl, charbax any news on this?
Charbax is probably busy at LeWeb

Dunno about SDSL
I've played it with no problem!
I tried everything to make this work but it didn't succed, tried on both SDSL and CM7 by tejas and it was crashing at the loading screen all the time. Nothing helped, including swap and chainfire with nvidia plug / 16bit textures.
Did you try to Oc your phone ?
Well actually it was oced all the time, 768 mhz on CM7 by tejas and 806 mhz on SDSL. I believe it's memory managament fault not the cpu frequency anyway, pvz itself doesn't have any high requirements when it comes to hardware, it's just that the game is poorly optimized and it can't manage memory by itself. And as far i know it requires a lot of free memory to be launched ( near 200 mb ) otherwise it crashes. I just don't understand why it does work for some people and for other it doesn't, basically it shouldn't work on any GT540 because it lacks physical memory ( 168 mb when 80-110 mb is available for the user depending on the rom ) and swap is nothing like physical memory, it's just a paging file used to keep data that isn't needed.
Please tell me how to creat swap on my phone ? i installed swapper and i don't know how to make it work

It works on any rom with swap if you cant run it at all i would recommend you to download chainfire aplication and put custom settings for it and powervr driver
I tried with sdsl 3 that has swap and it didn't work. But that's with my phone...
try b3 by tejas with swap
Is there any noticeable performance difference between these two versions?
yes 1.5 ghz is much smoother, apps run better, most have 1gb RAM. However, it still has problems. If you are set on an archos, go for the 1.5 turbo, and make sure it has 1gb ram (mine said it on the box)

you can oc 1ghz to 1.2, which helps a little. I would highly recommend 1.5 ghz tho if you can get one.
For the problems, just the standard bugs, archos firmware is still buggy, however 4.0.7 works good for most.
Hello guys,
I want to buy a new phone and i hesitate between the OnePlus X and the galaxy A5 2016.
Is the X powerful and what's the avg Antutu score? Is the snapdragon 801 good to play games like Modern Combat 5 or Fifa 16?
Thanking you in advance
Antutu score does not matter much. Software is buggy on oneplus x. You should go for other choices but not samsung .
In principle, If playing such games is your prime necessity then you should go for a 5.5 inch display phone with a better processor and bigger battery. Just my opinion.
this is not a gaming device. really go for something else. h2os is bugfree.antutu score is 71k with OC on h2os
To answer your question regarding Antutu score - my score on stock rom with stock kernel was 50k. And the gpu performance rated by the Antutu app was "poor", if I remember correctly.

Thanks guys but i think gaming would be better than my Galaxy Grand Prime with snapdragon 410 an 1Gb of ram (22k on Antutu) an 5.5 inches is too big for my pocket. And psychem, how do you get 71k with a S801 ?
I saw on YouTube that Multitasking was wonderful with 3GB RAM. And will it be updated to Marshmallow or N (long term)?

I'm seeing folks ordering the SpecialEedition. Unless the info I'm finding on them is inaccurate, the only difference is 821 ca 820.
I'd love to go with the 'latest', but I"m not sure that the 821 is worth $300 more than the Deluxe. That's a 60% premium over the Deluxe for what is advertised as a 10% increase in performance.
They seem to be slow to ramp up delivery. I"m anxious to see some of the reviews. Particularly interested in how good the GPS is.
I know this isn't much of a boost (and it's a benchmark), but I'll give my take on both the Deluxe and Deluxe Special Edition (own both of them).
Deluxe Special Edition Antutu Scores:
Total: 156729
3D: 61350
UX: 49963
CPU: 34635
Ram: 10781
Deluxe Antutu Scores:
Total: 138675
3D: 58261
UX: 41921
CPU: 28281
Ram: 10212
Take these scores conservatively as peoples phones vary (Mostly manufacture processes with some of the CPU's/Ram being of better grade, etc). Both phones were ran before any other software was installed and with all the bloat either removed or disabled. Before I disabled all the bloat on the Special Edition, it ran the same score as what was on the regular Deluxe, so the bloat was definitely causing a slowdown.

I have the special edition version and in performance mode I only score 142K. What did you disable to score 156K?
Pretty much every app that came pre-installed on the phone was uninstalled or disabled. Only a couple of the preinstled apps like mobile manager and audiowizard (and maybe a few others). I'm also using Nova Launcher, but since I don't have ZenUIauncher disabled, that shouldn't give me a performance boost.
Also, in Autostart Manager, I have all the apps that were starting on boot disabled except for the apps I use daily.

That's weird because I disabled or uninstalled practically everything Asus and made sure I forced closed everything before I re-ran the test and only got 143K ? Not sure why I can't duplicate your performance.

A 5k difference on the CPU is pretty extreme. Even if you got a bottom of the barrel CPU performance wise, it should still perform >150k. Your CPU score as it is is almost comparable to my 820, which is not good imo. Should be better than that, way better.
I did find out that if you run the test while it is charging, the CPU test will call about 20% short of expected due to having to regulate the quick charge feature. Were you charging your phone while the test was ran?

I believe we also get 256gb internal memory on the Special Edition whereas you only get 64gb on the Deluxe... That also needs to be taken into acount...
Instead of having one sim and an SD card you can use both sim card slots and have 256gb space for what you want, as long as you want to use 2 sims...
The rear camera is 23 megapixel on the S.E. vs. 16 megapixel on the Deluxe as well and we have 6gb Ram vs 4gb Ram.

I also re-ran AnTuTu and scored 155K. I think my issue was I was playing Asphalt 8 not to long before I ran the test so the CPU might have been throttling a bit to keep down the temperature.

I think in the middle of what you were saying you got confused between zenfone 3 and zenfone 3 deluxe specs. You better recheck that.
I got a 154k score today on my brand new special edition while it was installing all my apps. I think once this thing gets optimized is going to be getting over 160k.
By optimized, I don't mean mine in particular. I mean this phone in general.

I had forgotten that there was also more memory in the Special Edition. That makes the $300 bonus charge a bit less onerous. On a quick check, there's a bit over $100 difference in cost between a 64 and 256 k SD Sandisk cards. So that makes the premium for the processor a bit under $200.
I'm still not sure it is worth the extra $.
If Asus had better manufacturing capability I'm thinking this phone would be quite competitive to some of the main stream brands. It sure seems slow to be getting out to users.

I got the SD820 and feel I won't miss the performance vs. the $300 extra bite. The phones can take up to a 2TB card, so unless you prefer internal storage, or need two working sim cards at all times, the storage difference is of no concern.
After de-bloating, my phone gets a score of 148718 - 8.5% less than the highest SD821 score currently posted here. Will I ever notice the difference? Nope.
That being said, for some reason Asus has decided to separate their firmware for the SD821 and SD820 (firmware for the SD821 version is labeled "pro") so I don't know if there are more hardware differences that come into play.

Well the storage (memory is RAM) is actually UFS2.0, not EMMC, so the price difference between 64 and 256GB micro SD cards is an inaccurate comparison. UFS2.0 gives the storage in phones SSD like transfer speeds, much faster than what micro sd cards can perform.
Read this to hi e you an idea of the enormous difference
http://technotif.com/ufs-2-0-new-generation-mobile-device-storage/
So if you really think about it, this makes the value of this phone extremely high, especially since it uses all the newest standards. And if I recall correctly, only the ze570kl models have UFS2.0, I think all the others have EMMC.

So if you really think about it, this makes the value of this phone extremely high, especially since it uses all the newest standards. And if I recall correctly, only the ze570kl models have UFS2.0, I think all the others have EMMC.

Yes UFS storage is supposed to be a lot faster. It was rumored that Samsung was going to take things a step further and make their SD card slot UFS compatible. It never happened though. If you all remember, storage speed was one of the reasons Samsung and other manufacturers got rid of the micro SD card slot completely. Only after user backlash did they bring it back.

.That being said, for some reason Asus has decided to separate their firmware for the SD821 and SD820 (firmware for the SD821 version is labeled "pro") so I don't know if there are more hardware differences that come into play.

Well the SD820 is the MSM8996 and the SD821 is the MSM8996 Pro, so that is why they name the firmwares like that.
Also the SD820 has gotten a few firmware updates but the SD821 hasn't gotten any yet.

That may be why Samsung claimed they got rid of it, but Apple does it to force us to buy the bigger storage options. One of the many reasons why that half eaten apple can rot in the garbage for all I care. I do like that touch screen strip to replace the function keys on the new MacBooks though. I hope Razer copies that cuz it is sick. My Razer Blade is still more powerful though...

I got 2 within the 1st day of turning on...
Version WW_4.10.40.839 - Original firmware,
Version WW-4.11.40.983(8996 Pro) - quick upgrade after turning on,
Version WW-4.11.40.1085(Pro) - one I'm on now...
These are on the ASUS site - https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-3-Deluxe-ZS570KL/HelpDesk_Download/
This doesn't mean that there is less support, but that they didn't release the older firmware that needed patching as the SD821 was released later. Both versions, 8996 & 8996 pro are currently on 1085
