Moto Z droid xt1650-01 - Moto Z Questions & Answers

is there any way to unlock bootloader and root moto Z droid xt1650-01 ??? help me out of this

I've been searching, hunting , crying since July tryin to find how to get damned root on the 01 variant. I'm still searching daily hoping that I'll finally come across something that works.
Unfortunately, this variant doesn't have enough attention from the development community. Which for us consumers means as of right now this phone is the way it's going to be. It's a shame because this phone feels really good. Has tons of features, and it's actually unique among the masses. I'll hold out hoping for something. I don't plan on upgrading until next year. (Using motox pure "Clark" as my DD).
Good luck.

Apparently it can't be rooted. The GSM version can and the unlocked Moto Z2 Play which works on Verizon can as well

this is so much disappointing i sold my Clark just to buy this phone as i was thinking about playsing some roms on that one but now missing my clark

coming from a nexus one

Honestly and seriously ...I've been with the nexus one for almost 2 years and looking into an upgrade.
I don't want the Galaxy nexus or the sg2.

I was initially looking to get the galaxy nexus, after all the delays and needing a new phone as the old one died, went for the galaxy note and am loving it even though it's still on gingerbread. Rooted it, loaded a lite rom, speedier kernel, got rid of most of the Samsung crap and just sitting and waiting for an ics build to pop up.

Hmm....great input..
Not really impressed by the development progress of the razr ..not sure if its a good idea?

The phone has only been out for a month. It takes a bit to get some momentum, but honestly, I'm loving the RAZR with a simple root, and some small tweeks.
I'm looking forward to ICS, but am more than happy with the phone as is, and could be pleased for a few months while the development catches up.
The lack of perceived development is due to two things IMO...
1. Locked boot-loader
2. Another great phone (SGN) being released at the same time.
Motorola really messed up by locking this boot-loader while another very "open" phone was being released around the same time and by looking at the forums it's quite obvious. Considering the above though, the development here has been pretty decent thanks to a bunch of dedicated pro's.

According to what I've read, the Nexus, while on Verizon, the contract is actually under Google's control. Hence, the unlocked bootloader. It was Google's requirement that the phone come to the market open.
Motorola, on the other hand, is restricted like HTC & other Samsung devices on Verizon's network. HTC originally stated they would release a tool, but then Verizon forbade it, and the Rezound was fully locked as well.
Samsung's phones are almost always locked down, it just so happens they're easier to hack, but they don't support development very well, so even with it unlocked, you end up with very poor support.
HTC never releases their source code (at least from what I've read) so it's hard to get a working custom rom that's 100% on their phone.
I've owned 3 Motorola Droid phones, and the last two have been great for development. My mom also owns another one in the Droid X, and it too was easy to flash, and had plenty of support from the community due to the source codes being available.
If I can teach my mom how to flash a custom ROM on her phone, it can't be THAT hard to do, and the support I get when she has an issue, is better than Verizon offers in store.
As for Motorola messing up, maybe it's on timing, but really it's not their fault the phone came locked down. They actually were pushing for open devices first, by offering the OG Droid, and then offering the Xoom with an unlocked bootloader, and announcing it wanted to unlock bootloaders in late 2011.....it's just Verizon shoved it back in their face.
So if anything blame Verizon for this.
hmm, my problem is that i really don't want a Samsung phone. The SG2 is will become outdated and most ppl have that (i want to be different).
I've thought of the Note, i like big, but found it unpractical.
What else? Lenovo?
Any new phones around the corner? What's after the Razr?

I'm a keyboard guy myself, so I'm getting ready for the Droid 4 which should be coming out any day now, and am probably going to give my RAZR to my wife, as she likes the screen, and her OG droid is getting really long in the tooth.
After that, there's a new HTC "Zeta" was rumored recently as well as the "ville".
Really, you kind of have to wait till CES for more phones after Christmas. CES is Jan 10-14th, and there will be quite a few new phones that are announced there.
I am also coming from a N1, been using it for 2 years. No big problems except the lack of internal memory (even thought I'm using S2E, but still...) and couldn't play much games on the phone...
The Razr looks very nice! The CPU is the same one as the GN, but with much better designs and build. So I also seriously consider this phone too. But as a top of the line phone the graphic seems a little weak, even compare to SGS2(which is out almost half year now). So I'm a llittle worry about this....Maybe we will have to keep using our trusty N1 at least till the end of CES in Jan.
I agree with garlick2. The first thing I did was to root this phone. However, this is the first Android phone that I have had that I have been happy with right out of the box. I have made a few minor customizations, but nothing major.

[Q] Best 2014 Verizon phone for unlocked bootloader/S-off

Curious. I have had an S4 that I had acquired about 6 months ago from avenues that weren't via Verizon. I work for a small company that is perfectly ok with me "messing" with my phone as long as if I break it I pay to replace it. That being said my s4 has been running safestrap for longer than I can stand and I have an upgrade available.
I'm curious what the best Verizon option is for being able to run CM and customer kernels? Is this something of the past now for verizon?
Open to all Brands. I would particularly like to stay away from Samsung. (Personal preference)
Hoping someone recently went through the same thing and is interested in helping someone who is stuck with Verizon.
Thank you in advance

I did your homework for you, and if you're only interested in recent flagship phones (no older than a year or so), the best option is the HTC One M8. A good amount of ROMs and kernels available. The 2013 Moto X also seems to have a lot that work on the Verizon version. Presumably the Moto X 2014 and maybe the Droid Turbo might as well sometime, but they're both new and nothing's really going on yet.
Of course, there's the Nexus 6 coming in a few days...

5.1.1 Incoming! For Real!

Yup, the Z3v is actually getting 5.1.1! The Z2 Tablet is as well. I never thought I'd see the day, but I'm happy for you guys! I personally have a Z1s on T-Mobile that I am still hoping gets 5.1, but I very much doubt it at this point.

Link to actual Verizon support page about the update: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/sony-xperia-z3v-update/
It looks like this update is going to start rolling tomorrow according to some of the support pages saying February 24th.
Just read that article! Make sure to read the actual info from Verizon in the sources at the bottom.
Holy smokes! That article is funny. Woof indeed.

Do you think you'll be able to get a pre-rooted version of this? I'm in a quandary cause I have a replacement Z3V coming tomorrow. If this is released tomorrow maybe I'll just use stock until a root solution for 5.1.1 comes out. Advice?
I loved being proven wrong sometimes...this is one of those times.
The possibility exists they have patched the root exploits finally and that is why they are releasing it. I have a z2 Verizon tablet and at the moment there is no root for lollipop
Pleasantly surprised! Thought for sure this phone was done getting updates and i was stuck on nonrooted 5.0.2. I flashed it before rooting like an idiot

I'm willing to give it a shot to preroot it once I get my hands on the FTF.
Thanks, GigaSPX. An you give a few examples?
Now that I have a second z3V I'm opened to testing some things, so long as there is a somewhat reasonable main of error against "embrickment". I might require more paience than most because of where I'm at on the learning curve.
BTW, this update pretty much fulfills both Sony and Verizon's obligations to the z3V stepchild as Iunderstand it, so most likely no Marshmallow just because this is coming, correct?

Well the future seems pretty bleak between Sony and Verizon over this phone because Sony is really just done trying to work with Verizon over these update issues. One thing I can definitely let you guys know though is there is a high likely chance the bootloader unlock is about to become a real thing.
Other than that, the Z series is finished now. No plans for the Z6 as Sony has transitioned their portfolio for the new X series. I somewhat knew that because of the X Performance specs, that has to be their latest flagship. Your guys' thoughts?

Do you have any info on if the Z1s bootloader is about to be able to be unlocked as well? That would be amazing and make the wait for my next phone sometime this year a lot easier.

Z3v Software Update
Software Version: 23.4.B.0.319
and the surprise; i had an update message via sony bridge for like 2 month ago but i keep getting : error 1100 consult technical support … "when i try to upgrade"
Well what do you know there is an update, wonders never cease, will reserve further comments until it is actually confirmed rolling out.
Haven't gotten it yet here in Texas.
I guess the natives got to restless with the pitchforks and all.
Now just have to decide if I want the S5 or keep the Z3v, seeing this will more than likely be the last update this phone gets and the S5 will get Marshmallow for sure. And Advanced Calling 2.0 is right around the corner (Wi-Fi calling) and 5g.
If the bootloader gets unlocked then I would keep the Z3v, but the S5 has custom ROMs right now, root and bootstrap working.
Just got complicated.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...ver-the-air-bump-from-android-5-0-2-to-5-1-1/
Only article that says it will come in batches. I have both. I actually have to have my sim in my z2 tablet to even search for an update.
And of course I just sold mine, as in the last 10hrs
Why the presumption of the bootloader unlock possibility? How does the fact (yet to be proved) that they'll update to lollipop increase the odds that the bootloader will be unlocked?

How developer friendly is Lg these days ?

I have a HTC one m8 now
The xda Forum of the m8 is very active and it´s possible to unlock every HTC with HTCs help.
I´m very interesstet in the new Lg g5 as my new device but i want to install custom roms and maybe other stuff, when i look in the forum of the v10 it looks not very good.
When i look in the Lg g4 forum the developer Support looks not bad.
So maybe someone can say something about the developer support of LG nowdays ?

I have the same question. After 4 years, the glass of my Galaxy Sii finally broke :crying: So I was looking at the S7 Edge to replace it, but here in Europe we get the Exynos version which is a no-go for custom ROMs. And because custom ROMs doubled the life of my Sii, I really want another phone that has good developer support.
There is of course the Nexus 6p, which seems to have a billion ROMs already. But I find it a bit large. The LG G5 looks great, with more memory and a faster chipset. Good developer support would be another bonus.
G3 onwards, nonexistent. G4 was lucky enough to have an unlocked boot loader for two versions of the phone (815/811), so it has a small development scene. The V10 however didn't receive the same treatment and is essentially dead in the water in regards to development. With LG's extremely vague stance of factory unlocking boot loaders and their extremely locked down phones the G5 might end up the same, only time will tell.

Sadly true.....
I have the G3 for almost 2 years now, luckily devs found a way to "bump" it allowing for root, custom recovery ...etc! thus a fair amount of action in development
Really interested in G4 H818P (dual sim) but since it's not among the models officially unlockable and none managed to hack it (despite somewhat hefty bounty) that renders it significantly unattractive.... some of just can't do stock
It's a shame LG has such none dev-friendly policy
It's been getting worse, just like Samsung. If you have a carrier-branded phone like Verizon, you can forget any real development.
It get worst by the release. As you have said, you took a look at the v10...that is a prime example of lg.
Looks like a no-go for me then....I was so sold on the G5...
Samsung S7 appears to be in bootloader lockdownville, ruling it out for me.
I'm now looking at the G5. If this also joins the town of locked bootloaders, I'll stick with my G4.
Then I'll perhaps jump off the original Jump ship, since I won't be upgrading that much, and go with squaretrade or similar, saving much need $ in the process.
In this case I will probably go for htc 10. I'm not in any hurry so we'll see.

Is HTC development still friendly these days? I remember you could officially unlock the bootloader on M7. How is it now? I like HTC phones too. Still use my M7.
A quick search indicates that unlocked A9 was bootloader unlockable and dev friendly. Looking like HTC 10 may be my next phone then.... I was so fascinated by G5. Darn! Some things are not meant to be.

I think it will be not so easy. HTC will unlock the device bit remain S-on. So it must wait and pay for s-off (SunShine). Sony has also officianal unlock, but you lost the drm key forever (few sony app does not work) so you have to wait the unofficianal drm fix. Xiaomi has also locked bootloader, and the unlock not so simple. samsung locked the snapdragon and exynos has few difficulties. Who remain?Lg?Nexus?chinese phones?
Maybe the android developing will die?

This really is not so far from the truth. When I bought a S4 (first android), it was a cinch manipulate it and it was an AT&T variant (the google play edition rom made it easy too). Then...G2, M8, N5, OPO, N6, G3, etc. ...I was hooked...this was easy, just watch the carrier variants and unlocking/rooting/rom'ing was easy street. What was an iPhone...why did I ever own one, etc. etc.
Well, 2014 started to suck and then 2015 REALLY sucked...the post quad core era zomg! Besides a N6p / MXPE...there is some really sucky quality about every other hackable android unit out there in many respects practically from 2015 (g4 - limited dev'ing if at all US domestic, m9 - hot (doomed) 810 but better control now, OPT - need drivers!, s6 - exynos so TW roms or bust).
Then we start 2016...S7 locked for Samsung Pay (for now?)...not a good start. I am an optimist and hope the G5 and the M10 are able to be unlocked and we can unleash the power of the SD 820. The era of stable octacore is here, hopefully our beloved devs can take full advantage of it!

Developer Needed For The LG Stylo 3 Plus

The device is VERY affordable for the price of $49.99.. with a number port or new line of service..
Some Dealers are even giving it away free with a new line of service.
But.. this device overall draws No Interest even though you get some decent features for a decent price.
Maybe it's because there is no way to revert it back to stock for the foreseeable future for warranty issues or upgrades.. maybe it's having to look at that Warning message everytime you boot up once you unlock the bootloader.. I don't know.
But.. for $49.99 who cares? The Stylo 3+ will do rooted stock with Xposed and some modules.
The Moto E4 / G5s lines along with Xiaomi seem to be your best bet for sub $200.00 devices with a plethora of support.
Thanks For Reading :good:
This phone isn't $50. It's over $200. I agree, though. We do need a dev who can work on Lineage. I'm actually fine with the stock ROM for now.

I Sorry You Were Not Informed Of My Past Purchases....
But... Let me direct your attention to the attached picture below...
You See.... I HAVE HAD T-MOBILE POSTPAID... again, sorry no one informed you of that BEFORE you presumed to know my past.
And... Please.. correct me if I'm wrong.. but I do believe the specifications of the T-Mobile variant and the MetroPCS variant are EXACTLY the same.. again I may be off a spec or two..
Bottom line is.. basically the same device.. Using The Same Towers and one cost $225.00 and the other $49.99.
Frankly, I don't care if my bill is paid 30 days prior of 40 days post...... as long as it's paid.
So.. I'll just keep my MetroPCS variant and use the $170.00 or so savings on other things.
Sorry off subject.
Has anyone successfully flash factory firmware in case of soft brick? For warrenty issues any sucees in custom recovery then bootloader lock in cause one would like to avoid warrenty by unlocking boot loader?

Hello.. And Welcome To The Party..
Unfortunately, there is no "Stock Factory Firmware" ( a.k.a. KDZ in LG lingo..) I just called LG on this matter yesterday.. and inquired out of curiosity as to when it might be released.. No E.T.A. whatsoever.
Just for kicks.. I inquired about the security patch still being of the April variety.. again, no answer as to when that will be updated as well..
But when it comes to the security patch.. it really does not matter when you unlock your boot loader.. that action alone Opens The Door... to Malware and any other violation you can think of when it comes to Jacking You Up.
That's why companies frown upon having a boot loader with the ability to be unlocked.. they don't want you coming back to them crying with a compromised or bricked device.
Personally, I like the way Motorola / Lenovo does it... and if I ran a company it's certainly the way that I would do it.. Keep it stock, and we have you covered.. or, wave your warranty and they give you the code to unlock your boot loader.. Then You Are On Your Own.. and they have a record of you ASKING to wave your warranty.. and that gives them the right to Refuse fixing your goof ups.
I understand we need to start emailing LG so that they released the firmware we didn't was the LG K10 and now every variant of it has been rooted has TWRP and all firmwares are available.
What about using something like LG up or uppercut to extract the firmware from my stock LG Stylo 3 plus?
I don't have the time two develop, or full knowledge on what is needed to be done for LG MP450.
I'm debating on going back to Metro and just picking up the Stylo 2 plus considering developers are already working on it. Resurrection and lineage are released for Stylo 2. Also there are already released for the LG K-10 not sure what variant you're using I use MetroPCS so mine would be the ms428.
I don't really see any hardware specs that are better on the Stylo 3 than the Stylo 2 other than the internal memory but my goal is to use my 128 GB SDXC card. I can partition some of it to be adaptable another partition to be storage (FAT32) and two other partitions for link2sd and Swapper (EXT4) and lastly swap.
Stylo 3+ Not For You ?

LG will release the firmware at some point... Actually, the stock firmware runs just fine.. I have not seen any glitches.. even when I had 100% of LG's setup installed. I'm down to about 30% factory and 70% personal and I'm getting 12+ hours of S.O.T. ( I posted some pics in another thread ) I don't think LG is in a rush.. there is nothing terribly wrong.. "If It Ain't Broke...."
If it's a bunch of ROM's you are looking for... you picked the wrong phone. by the time there is a choice of ROM's there will be a whole new choice of phones to choose from..
The Moto G5s Plus comes to mind.. if you look at the INCREDIBLE support the G5 Plus has ( I owned one but the 5.2 inch screen was just a little too small for me ) Just wait until the G5s Plus with it's 5000 maH battery and 5.5 inch screen and $129.00 price has a few months under it's belt.. it will be "The" bang for the buck device to own if you enjoy Root & ROM's..

So, let me start off by saying, I'm a hobbyist developer myself. Haven't posted a lot (if at all, to my closest friends) things that I've done for the many Android phones I've owned in the past. I just happen to grab this interesting device yesterday in Canada. Looking at this thread in particular, I don't believe this would be a form of motivation for me to start developing anything for this phone publicly, whether it be for the requested Metro PCS "cheaper" model, or what have you.
The OP seems to suggest that most developers can't afford phones, which I personally find offensive, as I work my butt off to go through as many phones as I do/have. Sure, I've seen a few, which I find them to be genuine and supportive of their work, I've never minded supporting.
This thread also feels like most "ETA??" threads that I've seen for even more popular phones I've had, such as my beloved recent Nexus 6P.
All in all, this is just my two cents. I'll keep following and lurking around to see if someone decides to work out something for the Stylo. I've never owned the Stylo variant of LG phones before, and so far I love it as just stock, which is a very new (and good) feeling for me.
~Cheers

nvm
just got this phone today so if any devs ever pick up please contact me if you need testers.
No I'm actually happy with the phone I don't need a bunch of ROMs. I'm comfortable with unlocking the bootloader and flashing stock. My only concern was through MetroPCS they have the phone replacement program if something happens to your phone you pay the deductible and get a new one. I know that unlocking the bootloader blow void the warranty not sure how that works with paying the $6 a month in case the phone is lost or stolen.
I would actually like to start developing on my own again. Although I've been out of the game for a few years I know I can get back into it fairly easily. Because of my circumstances I am going to stick with the LG Stylo 3 plus from Metro PCS. As of now I disable any OTA updates I have yet to unlock Bootloader install custom recovery and root phone.
I am paying for the $6 a month extra to replace phone if lost or stolen. Or if during the process of development I broke it and I can say it was lost or stolen. I do like the phone. Thank you so much for being around hopefully within the next day or two I can grab my sisters laptop and install custom recovery, root, ROM is available. And go from there
stock
Is there any way I can get the stock firmware?
Thanks For Reading
as a kdz is out, i started creating the tree
