Hello everybody.
We all know that Moto Display is very useful and shows incoming notification. In Moto G and E devices, it activates when the phone is moved from its position, or when a flip cover over the phone is opened. However I have heard that in Moto X devices, it activates even if you wave over the proximity sensor.
So I thought of making a small app that does the same. It is on Play Store.
MotoDisplay handwave
Currently this device is having some issues with this app. I don't own the device. So I would be grateful if people use it provide feedback. Thanks.

if the app is not stable you should post in development.... and ask for testers ...ill take a look at it but i don't usually use gestures
in compatability mode it works fine 100% in moto e4 "woods" on unofficial aicp custom rom 7.1.2 nougat

what I really miss from my Moto X (and according to Motorola's support page https://motorola-global-en-aus.cust...rod_answer_detail/a_id/119610/p/30,6720,10216 should be there but in reality is press power button twice) is twist for camera app to open. Any chance you could work on that one?

I had thought of making a port of those features for all devices; using accelerometer readings. But then I found out that most devices give very erratic readings. So I dropped the plan.
Only if a device has the Motorola Double twist sensor, the feature can be used, that too with the Moto camera only.

The problem may be with the Proximity sensor. It detects one hand wave as many hand waves. Will try to block repeated hand wave detection for a fixed amount of time, say 3 seconds.
This app is working well at Moto E4 Perry .

Mayby you should go back and read again what it does and what it uses before posting crap? Yes it uses the proximity sensor but it also uses the s-view sensor.
But it is no way near how nicely stock works.

Dude, i know. I used it a while ago on CM. At first it seems cool and everything, but after a while it annoys the crap out of you. Every time you accidentally place my finger near the proximity sensor the app goes off and interrupts what you were doing. I'm back on stock now and it's way nicer. Just flashed it yesterday after being on cm for months.
It's not as polished as in stock...
BUT, since version 0.2.x, it's improved a lot, and if pretty fine working
and, as said above it DOES utilize the magnetic sensor, no finger-craziness here
(Look on F-Droid for the latest version)

You can answer phone calls not by swiping, by just touch.

Development progress / support for CM12.1
Development of HallMonitor seems to have stopped since version 0.4.2 (latest commit of the author "durka" is from 22 Jul 2014). This version doesn't support CM12(.1) (see issue 52 on durka's GitHub page).
Installation of the "MagnetOff" Xposed module is not a very useful workaround since you can't use the hall sensor (magnet sensor) anymore and would have to fall back on the proximity sensor (which is a pain in the a**).
The GitHub user "manusfreedom" has added several features and took development up to his version 2.0.2 beta (but his last commit is quite old too, from 21 Sep 2014). Has anyone tested manusfreedoms fork on CM12(.1)? Or does anyone know about a revival of HallMonitor's development? Would be so awesome to have this for CM12.1 :cyclops:
no rom with stock kernel? or export the s-view feature?

Yeah, I'm very disappointed. The worst is that this is not happening at all for the OP3 -- there's a vibrant stream of two-way communication with feedback coming in and updates coming out... but with the X there's just this ****ed up silence and indifference. They didn't even try to apologize for taking 4 months to release a half-baked update with just a few fixes...
Useless update...just ignore as OnePlus is ignoring us.

The stock rom is much better regarding mobile data. I had always ridicilous slow transfer speed with CM or AOSB based ROMs.
Also with this ROM you can:
* Use Chromecast -> Mirror your Phone screen on TV
* Use the free speech in whatsapp without any problem
* Improved Camera quality. Not the worse 4k patch noise crap from cyanogenmod which wont work properly. (effects, hdr etc.)
* No LTE problems
But sadly there is still the vibration during call issue. Its such a shame that oneplus is not able to fix that massive bug. Really bad developers there. The X is my first and my last Oneplus phone. I try to sell it but its hard to find an idiot who will buy this. Ebay is full of offers...

Same here! LoL
I tried to sell my OPX too, but no luck! Because people already knew that OnePlus closed all of their "service centers" in Indonesia. The lesson is: Never ever buy a stuff from the unknown Chinese manufacturer without a physical present in your country.
Updated my X to 2.2.2 and after 2 days the most annoying bugs are still present:
1. Lag when I try to wake/unlock my phone
2. The proximity sensor is still buggy (shortcuts opens during the call)
I don't have YouTube lags
The battery consumption seems to be normal
Video camera is way better
Unfortunately I will go back to Hydrogen OS. Disappointed!
The last update is wonderfull. A very stable Rom with smoothness updated. (I'm using it with boeffla kernel and haptic vibration during call is disabled in kernel setting ). The new camera seams to solve the fps issue in video, and photo quality is top notch as it was always been compared to custom roms. Signal is through the roof, download speed is unbeatable. I'm waiting for the mm version. Nice work so far.

It seems like a real good phone for a great price. How come there are barely any ROMs? Is it just because of the lack of market share of this phone? I'm coming from a Nexus 5 which has tons of ROMs and has for years.

Well there's half a dozen AOSP ROMs.
But LG is to blame for not more. They released the phone September/October 2017, but didn't release the open market variants (non-carrier models with official bootloader unlock code) until months later, and then NEVER officially announced US998 bootloader unlock eligibility. Users basically had to hack the LG website to get a code, and then it only worked for the open marketUS998 V30, not the open market US998 V30+.
In mid-May 2018 with Oreo update is when @TxanMoe discovered the wonderful WTF bootloader unlock exploit. That was 8-9 months after release and devs had moved on.
@SGCMarkus has been our rock. He singlehandedly maintains half a dozen ROMs and now others are stepping up to help out.
Also there's concern custom ROMs will negate proprietary features like QUAD DAC and camera and battery life. We can use two apps for quad DAC, but have to use Google cam port for camera instead of stock camera.
I'm still running stock rooted firmware myself, with a couple of Magisk modules.
How many ROMs do you want?

It is a good phone. I would imagine most devs have lives outside of xda. It takes time to build these roms and I suspect it isn't a full time priority. I've looked into building briefly...it made my head spin. I'm too old to sit in front of a computer more than I already do. Kudos to the ones that build.

Thanks for that info. Does it offer the ability to modify the "power menu" when pressing the power button? For example, on my Nexus 5 one of the main features I like in ROMs is this ability. I want to be able to put reboot and power in that menu and take everything else out. I also like having AdAway built-in to my current N5 ROM but I'm sure there's a way to flash that or something similar. It just uses a hosts file to block ad domains so it does a great job blocking adds device-wide.

LG always does this. The LG Fathom was a boss phone with great specs and nobody was able to develop much for it. I don't know what they're afraid of by allowing us to utilize the Quad DAC but it's really setting this phone back.

I don't own the phone yet. It's something I'm strongly considering and ROM support was one thing I was looking at.
In addition to wanting to modify the power menu there are other things I can do with my Nexus 5 using a custom ROM. Some are not that important and there are probably no deal-breakers but here's a list of cool things I wonder if the V30/+ has:
Ability to disable automatic OTA updates (aka have actual control over my own device. I'm not buying an iPhone here...).
Option to allow volume down/up to enter/exit DND mode.
Status bar icon modification (which icons display. For example I can disable BT icon even though I have it enabled).
Carrier label modification/disabler (change it from saying ATT to something else or disable completely as well as color/font/font size modification).
Clock position, AM/PM size, Date case, Date format, Date position, status bar font, status bar font size.
Battery indicator adjustment (I like the Cyanogenmod style; a number of the percentage inside of a circle representing that number).
Center time/date.
Long-press power button for flashlight when screen is locked (automatic-off set by user. I use 1 minute).
When pressing volume buttons the ability to access non-ringtone volumes and slide them to adjust are available.
Ability to adjust how each app is permitted to show notifications (allow fullscreen interruption/don't allow, never peek/always peek, etc...).
Option to set how long a peek notification will show for.
Option to turn screen on or leave it off when receiving a notification.
Ability to modify lock screen shortcuts.
Memory (consumption/available) in recent apps page.
Clear all recent apps button on apps page (this was removed from Android in Version 6 IIRC).
Ability to enable a lock icon on apps in recent apps page so that they aren't cleared when clearing all apps out from that page.
Ability to modify if I hear a sound (and which sound) and if the phone vibrates when being connected/disconnected from a power source.
Ability to change volume steps in volume panel.
As I go through my phone's features I realize that the V30/+ don't have a notification LED I love that thing. I think you can see that I basically miss a lot of old features from Android 4 and on that were removed from the OS.
Also, I've never used Oreo because I can't get any OREO ROMs to flash on my re-partitioned Nexus 5 so I don't really know what has changed in detail since Android 7.1.2.

@sneak310 Some of those features are available on LOS 15.1. Something like RR or DU will be the best bet for extensive customizing. Once you go to custom rom, ota's are not an issue. You can freeze or disable ota on stock. It still does a check on reboot though.

You're going to raise my blood pressure. I had the Nexus 5X. The great phone that didn't have a microSD slot that I had encrypted, and had this leeeeeetle factory flaw that caused it to not be able to boot.
I managed to pull my data off in time before it crapped out again. Freezer trick extended its life by a tiny bit to get my data. Now it won't boot at all, so I can't even use the fix.
Oh yeah, and to answer your question no, I don't count it. It's a Google phone. Google steps in and supports the developers. Notice how we could only bootloader unlock through an exploit? Yeah LG hates us. It's not even that they don't care - they actively hate us. We extend the life of their phones so we don't buy their newer phones bogged down with bloatware.

Nice! I will follow this ROM, still looking for a stable ROM to move from pixel experience. How stable is it this the moment?
I'll try this Rom asap.
Dev which camera you use in this rom?
And dolby digital plus working?
The rom is pretty smooth and is working pretty good for me. But I couldn't find any settings for off screen gestures. Is that a feature in this rom? if not, could we get it?
im on this ROM and its pretty stable and smooth af, i was wondering why there's few comments on this threat!
i recommend this ROM but some features are missing that i notice like:
network speed indicator
no VPN quick setting tile
why first release of this ROM is stabler than derpfest and pixel experiance itself????? i mean derpfest a11 is full of bugs and its on alpha stage and pixel experiance gone EOL! and unofficial release has these random bugs
then Pixel Extended came out of no where and its almost everything that i wanted

Hey theres a problem i am facing on my oneplus 5t from last 1.5 years which is getting worse day by day. the issue is that my screen freezes and dont respond to my touch sometimes, earlier it was easy to recover by just restarting the phone one time but now it freezes a lot and dont respond to touches and yeah this is not hang or someting , i can control thr phone through google assistant voice commands. and yeah this is even not a hardware problem coz it gets recovered nowadays by just putting the phone in fridge for 10 minutes. you can search on yt of exact issue. so , anyone got a fix for this?

The latest one 20.4
I notice the fingerprint sensor is greatly improved on A13 beta. It's as good if not better than my old OP6T was. Anyone else see similar improvements?

If that's true... how good is the beta as a daily driver? lol
The fingerprint sensor infuriates me some times. Like when I need to get photo of something while on a ladder or looking up network documentation at a client site. In those instances, it just doesn't work.
@XNine
It's very stable. Zero issues that I've noticed.

Been there, done that and won't do it again. Note to self and everybody else: turn off screen lock and turn on Gcam before going up a friggin ladder.

Right! forgot that.
So I took the Beta 2 update and so far, you're right, the FP sensor is much better. Still have to wait and see if it screws me over when I'm trying to get things done at work

It's as it should have been from release. Google needs implement changes in A12 next release.

It really is. I don't understand how the fix hasn't been rolled out to 12. Is it Great fingerprint sensor now? No. But it's MUCH faster and more accurate.
The only issue I've seen so far in 13 is android auto where maps isn't updating until i physically tap on the maps app on my phone, then the head unit updates. Trying to figure that one out now.
Edit: had to allow maps to use my location anytime, not just when using maps, oddly. Seems to have fixed the issue so far...

One can only hope. My fear is that there are some deeper issues that need to be addressed and Google may not want to bother porting the fix to 12.
