I have been noticing this problem since the last 1 week. I never faced this problem earlier. Even with 50% charge, when I turn the display off at night, by the time I wake up in the morning, the tablet refuses to turn ON. When I put it on my cradle, the light turns RED suggesting that the tablet had discharged (which is strange cos I turned Wifi Off before going to sleep.) The only way to turn the display ON (even after charging the tablet for some time) is to click the Reset button.
On Resetting, only on one occasion I found that the tablet had really lost all the juice (which is strange) but on all the other 3-4 occasions, after the reset I saw there was atleast 40% juice left. So it is really strange why the tablet would not turn ON.
I never faced this problem when I had GB. Could this be happening after the ICS update?? Has anyone else faced a similar problem??
Please reply
(I am currently in US but am going off to India in June for a year. Hence if there is something wrong with my tablet, I will not even get a warranty out there. So, unless this is a common problem for everyone, I am considering to sell off my tablet as soon as possible and get some thing else......possibly a TF300)
I have noticed similar issues with my previousley UK tablet and now US with ICS (rooted).
Putting the tablet to sleep and coming back to it later finding it's completley dead and the only way to wake it is to hold the power button to power on or to recharge and do the same .
Thanks. So maybe I am not the only one.
My suspicion is that it is either with the ICS update where something has gone wrong causing the tablet to go to a deep sleep sometimes (This doesnt occur all the time.........just time and often)
OR
Since my tablet is about 6 months old now, maybe the battery Sony had provided is not good enough. Probably it has already started dying.
can others confirm whether they notice any such problem as well??
Note: It doesnt go into deep sleep all the time. Just about 2-3 times a week, I'll notice that it has gone totally dead and the only way to wake it up is to click the reset button and reboot the tablet. (On two of such occasions I noticed the battery completely died........while on the other cases after waking up it still had 40-50% remaining)
Why don't you send it back to Sony to have a look since its still under warranty?
I have been asked to do a reset and factory data reset to see if it solves the issue. I shall be doing that. However, the problem is that this issue does not occur every time. I have noticed it happening one or two times every week. Its not that every time I turn the screen OFF it refuses to turn ON and hence I need to do a soft reset.
The Sony guys still advised to do a factory data reset and then contact Sony for repairs if it doesnt solve the problem. So that's gonna be like another week till I know for sure (If I notice the issue) if it resolved the issue OR I need a repair/replacement.
I have a new tablet (2 weeks of use) with US ICS installed usingh AIO and experienced the same thing twice. I think it's the PS emulator, since the app was running when this happened.
Both times It refused to power on and I had to hold the power button for a while.
I'll keep and eye on it and let you know.
I have a similar problem. It also occurs intermittently and has only been happening post is (rooted in UK with region change).
Yesterday I went out for a couple of hours and left my fully charged tablet in standby. I when I got back it would nt turn on. The green mail notification list was flashing so I knew the battery was ok. Fake I plugged in the charger and the power light was yellow. I waited about 5 mins with the tablet charging and then pressed the power button and it rebooted.
On reboot, then battery showed 50%. This happens maybe once week.

Thought I'm the only one who face this issue.
Mine is wifi SG version and happen once under HC and one more time under AiO US ICS firmware.
Both times I need to do a reset before it came back on.
Good Bye Tablet S
Sony customer care and technical support proved useless in identifying the issue. I pointed them to this and other forums where the same issue has been repeated. I have been asked to Factory Data Reset the tablet. Even after doing that I am facing the same problem. (Once a week now).
When I called them up again, they said I need to send it over to them for service and repair where they will try to diagnose the problem and possibly repair it if required.
As I am going back to India in mid June, my US warranty will be void on the tablet. So I did not want to continue with the Sony Repair process (cos chances are high that I'll face the same problem again and at that point there would be no warranty on the tablet where I could get it repaired/replaced for free).
So, with a lot of burden on my heart, I have moved on to Transformer Pad TF300.
I really loved my Sony Tablet S. However, the software support from Sony really isn't good. They are at least a lot better in the smart phone department.
Will probably go for sony once again when their next generation tablet comes out. Adios........and Good luck to all the tablet S owners.......I hope Sony fixes the issues.........cos customer satisfaction should be the no.1 priority for a company in order to compete with the very best.
As per sony dealer here in Saudi Arabia, sony's warranty works around the world, I asked specifically cause I'm not from here & planning to go home soon

Hi
I was thinking of buying a Sony Tablet Z LTE version locked to a major European carrier. Has anyone successfully unlocked theirs from their carrier, and if so, how?
Also I spotted a couple of issues whilst playing with the demo model in the store:
- the battery seemed to be losing charge even though it was displaying the charging icon, whilst only playing video
- the home screen was a little laggy, obvious after it came out of demo mode
- I had trouble dragging icons across the screen - I am not sure if this was the surface coating, the hardware responsiveness or the software?
To be fair the tablet has probably been plugged in and turned on for 6 months continuously, but are these typical behaviours?
Any advice greatly welcomed!

Usually the storefront devices aren't updated to the latest versions. Typically they use the software version that the tablet launched with, so it will be laggy. I can say that with the latest updates most of these flaws, especially touchscreen have been fixed.

Thanks - the apparent battery drain was a little off-putting - is this now fixed?
Also does anyone have any information about carrier unlocks?

The charger provided is a bit on the slow side - normally tablets get 2.1A chargers but Sony provided 1.5A chargers which take quite long to charge - I usually leave my tablet charging overnight. It's possible that if you push the tablet, the tablet could discharge whilst being charged.
As for carrier unlocking, I do not know. I got my tablet from Sony, not from a carrier.

Thanks so much for the feedback. One more question - how is the screen colour - is it realistic or a little over saturated?

I personally really like the screen. Nothing like the screen on the Xperia Z. Good viewing angles and accurate colours. You may find colours becoming quite saturated when looking at images as Bravia Engine saturates the colours to make it look better at the expense of accuracy, but that can be turned off if you so desire.

Sounds a hardware problem so. You should change your defective battery. It is a typical problem of these devices.

There are many apps for testing it, try some from the google play. But it would be better to find the Motorola's service of your area, because it might has problem the motherboard as well. I'm saying this from my experience.

the problem that motorola service in egypt "my area" will cost me more than the phone price .... thats why i wanna do it or test it myself
I have that problem for months. Changing battery helped me for 3 or 4 months. But it keeps happening. I'm having that issue "again" so if you have chance to buy another one do it. Save yourself and save your money for good. Cause you'll keep paying for battery after warranty and you'll say yourself "wow i could buy another phone."

I got issue, so i decide to buy new battery
Well done
Hello , this is due to android 7.1 update . Lenovo is responsible for doing this to us , it´s called programmed obsolenscence to make you buy new phones. This moto z is the cheapest vr ready phone in the market with a long long life in terms of tech , the only way is to buy a moto mod check in ebay (sept-2019) they are selling some for cheap from hong kong because a new moto mod battery came out with more mah.
I have had that battery issue before with a Moto Z that I bought in November 2016. The issues started around August 2017. When I had the issues I prolonged the use of the phone without replacing it by using a battery mod, but after some time it would power off even while on the battery, and would immediately power off the second I took the battery mod off probably a few months before that.
I eventually gave into buying a new battery for it and attempting to replace it myself. I rooted the phone first thing when I initially got it, so I didn't try doing official repairs since warranty was voided. Ended up breaking the screen in the process, ordering a new screen (had issues), and then ended up refunding the screen and just sending it into Motorola for replacement. The new 3rd party battery did seem to work without issue for the short time I tested it, so that may be an option, but might end up needing to be replaced in a year. The screen was really easy to break though.
I got a refurbished phone back and it is just now starting to show the same issues again (Replaced it March 2018, have not rooted yet). Had it abruptly die at around 20% earlier today. Not that bad but good to know that it may be starting to happen with this phone. This one I still have left plugged in every night, but without the turbo charger.
Debating on the next phone upgrade right now or if I just want to downgrade to a Moto Z Play I have laying around if it becomes unusable. I will still keep them around since I mess around with the dev kit, but not planning on getting another Motorola as a main phone if I get a new one.

seems a manufacture fault .. i found some info regarding your issue on another thread .. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/defective-battery-lots-moto-zhigh-t3781335
I have a Gen 2 Moto 360 (which has been more of a struggle to get on with than the original was, but that's progress)
Recently, last couple of weeks, the battery meter / indicator has been very reluctant to move.
Generally by the end of the day it will still be on 92%.
I did a "disconnect & reset" and the first time I did this the battery level seemed to be working right up to the point that Android wear updated to Wear OS.
Got in contact with Motorola (convoluted long story there, needless to say my arse aches from all the pains it now has!!) and they asked me to do ANOTHER reset, making it the third I had done since noticing the issue.
This time I made sure that it never updated to WearOS and yet the issue now remains!!
ANY IDEAS??
Yes I did turn the auto updates off.
Yes I did then update the play services, but only after trying total stock software for a day.
And apparently sending a report from my watch to MOTO won't help them at all..........
So I've been experiencing the same issue disucussed here on reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/un62zy
Basically, after the phone has been one for a few hours to a day or so, the figerprint senor essentially acts like it doesnt exist. Even the fingerprint manager disapears from the system menues. Restarting the phone usually brings it back, but not always. I've seen some people attribute it to heat, but my phone rarely gets hot.
It really feels like a software issue. I contacted sony about this issue, and they say they are aware of it, but all they can really offer is to use the sony Xperia companion program to wipe the phone.
It might help to mention that i am rooted and unlocked bootloader. However, my phone has been for months before this issue started. I don't feel like those two things are connected.
It doesn't feel like a hardware issue. But does anyone have an idea what the issue might be?
I have the same problem as you. Neither a wipe nor a different firmware helped me eventually.
I sadly learned to live with it.
Is it after a few hours no matter what, or have you noticed it stop working after charging? Cuz a bad charger can knock it out, though usually only while charging but it's possibly you have a charger that causes it to stop working until reboot?

I think for me, it is, no matter what it becomes faulty after a while, been using the original Sony charger + cable.
But I have a substitute that I can try, thank you for the info.
I've officially gotten to a point where neither a reboot nor safe mode brings it back.
It's such a weird issue. This phone won't be as easy to take apart as my previous phones.

I still hope that Sony will release a Software Update that fixes it …
Hello Everybody,
Same here, i updated to the last version 61.2.A.0.418.
I have the Xperia 1 Mark III UK version. I did a Factory Reset, and the fingerprint sensor works from time to time and stops working completely.
Then I did a hard reset and format, from Xperia Companion. Also with the same result.
It is the third time that I completely reinstall it using Xperia Companion.
- The fingerprint sensor does not work and if you restart the system it works for a short period of time.
- Another thing that I have noticed is that the problem that the Gmail application does not receive notifications of new emails (despite being turned on and configured) has also returned as it happened in other firmware updates.
- And finally, it only happened to me once but the notification LED turn on in blue light and did not go off until I did a forced shutdown.
I don't know what is happening, why this update has broken so many things. I hope sharing this will help others.
It seems to be an electrical noise design defect. My original Xperia 1 III rebooted if it had a fingerprint set, the screen off, and was fast charging with the factory charger. It self-destructed while sending it in for repairs and SBE made false claims that I had altered the firmware. I exchanged it and the replacement has issues too. I can pick up the phone off the table and it says the fingerprint reader is disabled from too many attempts. The touchscreen sometimes goes crazy too. Tap-to-wake is essentially run-battery-dead-because-screen-never-turns-off.
The other issues in this thread are software bugs, probably with the low-memory-killer. This is definitely not my favorite phone.
I have a UK 1 III and have not really had any problems with the finger print scanner, it struggles to open the phone if the screen is off, but if I pick the phone up and the screen comes on, it unlocks every time using the scanner. I have not modded the phone or changed software and have had the phone for just over 2 years.
Hi I wonder if anyone has tried to replace the fingerprint sensor and flex cable to try to fix it. These could be bought for like 10 dollars together in China so might be worth a try!
