Ideas for unused Galaxy S5? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to make use of my Galaxy S5 which is laying under the table hole time and I want your ideas.
My wish so far is to make it speak at loud current weather every 2h, for now I have app that says notifications at loud but I didn't find weather app that puts notifications with weather details as text every few hours, every weather app I installed so far just puts widget in notification area.

You can do tons of ideas. One is to make your s5 a dash camera for your car. Another is to use it strictly as a music player in your car. You could also use it as one of those live picture frames. Creativity is key!

I managed to make it speak IFTT notifications about weather at loud for now, every morning and before going to bed.
I want it to be like some kind of info center that speaks useful informations through day, but don't have any other ideas.

Any suggestions for reminder app?

I have a few personal tasks that i need to do at a specific time of the day and at time i am too busy and forget about it
I am looking for an app that will pop up reminder (and play sound) at a set time. Also need to be able to do repeat event so i dont have to program it everyday. So it sort of like the calender that come with android but since the calender on the galaxy does not allow me to customize the reminder ring tone. I cant hear a "beep" when i am in a busy environment.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I just use the alarm on the clock app
you can use the alarm clock on the phone
you can set the exact time.the ringtone it plays.
and you can set the days you want it to ring
Oh DUH!!! i'm thinking too hard. Thanks for your helps. It did exactly what i wanted.

Google Maps Notifications

So I was thinking, it would be very nice to get Navigation Notifications on the Gear Fit.
The problem is, if you activate notifications for Maps in the Gear Fit Manager and turn on navigation,
notifications won't show up. That's because the type of notification Maps is using.
I looked a bit into it and it seems i found an easy solution.
Someone would just have to write a small app, that's sending a normal notification
every time the actual Maps notification is updating.
Sure, you woud have to delete them later on since they will fill up your Bar,
but anyway, it would work. Just think of cycling for example or what ever.
Maybe i will try to do it, but if someone is experienced in this...would be nice to have.
A dedicated App could be useful as well, but would be harder to do.
Let me hear what you think of it.
Nice idea!

nice idea ! i think it will be also a good idea to have notification from WAZE : radar notification, accident , etc
yeah sure it would work with nearly everything.
i was researching a bit more into this and the app could be like this:
list with all your apps
checkbox so you can select all the apps you want to have notifications
some settings with intervalls etc.
this will also bypass the 10 apps limitation since you can select just this one app
and it will send all the notifications you need:good:

Google maps navigation question

So, fresh out of ios for the last few years I really got use to Google maps having banner notifications while in a different app and navigating.
It seems this is missing on the Android app. It must be doable because I get banner notifications for my phone and music apps.
Curious if anyone has any insight on why this great feature is missing, and if there's any word on it possibly being added.
Anyone have any info at all? Even a Google request page where this is being discussed would be cool. I can't find a thing about on the Web, an it seems like a significant thing to be missing.
They don't do the banner notifications in Android because it's in the notification drawer. Just have to swipe the status bar down to see it.

Hmmmm.... I will give that a shot, but they do banner notification for a couple apps. Phone comes to mind immediately.
Pulling down the drawer is a huge distraction, as is muting the navi voice when a call comes in.
I feel that a banner over my other apps would be more distracting. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
I don't see how on earth directions a person is relying on being hidden is less distracting than being visible. But ya.... Different strokes I suppose.
Given the fact it's on ios and not Googles own OS makes me wonder. I mean, ios is known for having more polished apps, and also known for having better Google Apps in some cases.
Because when I use Maps, it's connected to Bluetooth in my car, thus having no need to see directions. It also tells me where to go via voice controls. If you need to see the directions, why would you be in another app anyway? I sometimes pop into the directions to see a head of time if I'm at a stoplight or something, but just have to double click on the lockscreen notification or the notification drawer and good to go.
To add insult to injury, Google maps will flash a banner notification telling me the route is 'clear', or 'being rerouted'. So..... It seems very very possible to throw in the upcoming turn banner notifications as well.
And for those who use an ear piece, or no blue tooth at all an auto mute function would be so nice.
I just don't understand the lack of these features or the lack of people who find their absence not inconvenient at the least. *sigh *

Notifications During Active Call

Hi guys. I just switched from Apple land and trying to get used to the Android ecosystem since I've been using iPhones since the iPhone 4.
The biggest pain point for me is getting a handle on the notifications. Apple gave you a lot less control over what you see so I'm a bit overwhelmed with the amount of control for SOME apps (I guess it depends on how granular the developer makes it for the users).
My current obstacle is receiving notifications while in an active call. I spend most of my work day in meetings so it's important to see notifications showing up in real time. When I'm on a call the notifications are causing a vibration or alert but there is no popup to indicate which one just came in. When I slide down the notification center I don't think the notifications are sorted by date/time so I have no idea which one just came in.
1) is there a way to force notifications to pop up on screen even when I'm on a call so I can glance at what it's about?
2) is there a way to sort notifications based on date/time so I can make sure the topmost one is the most recent?
3 bonus round) does anyone have a good solution for more iOS like notification bar that looks less congested and confusing (this is one of the only things I miss about iOS)
Thanks.

Stratos questions

Hi all,
I just got my Stratos and got a few questions wich I can't find here...
Running latest 2.3.7.
- I receive all my notifications double on my watch, no matter if it's Gmail, Outlook, Linkedin, Whatsapp etc etc. I only have the Amazfit app installed, nothing more.
- I there a way to adjust date format to EU standard (dd-mm-yyyy)?
- How can I add other sports/activities? I made one in the app but it doesn't show up in the watch. I want to track my Hiit training sessions like Les Mills Gritt (on fitbit yuo can use kickboxing or aerobis for this).
- I want to use the watch to control my music on my phone/tablet. Sometimes the music controller shows up in the watchface after swiping up but sometimes not and nitifications show up. How to call it in front?
- Every few seconds the watchface seems locked and I have to press middle button and after that upper before I can swipe the screen. Can you make this more easy?
- On my Garmin and Fitbit if I receive a notification I can see it directly on my watch without pressing buttons. How do I do that with the Stratos? Do I realy need to enter notification menu?
But most annoying for now is the double notification. Hope that someone can explain this to me...
edit: I just notice that the double notification is not exactly the same. If I get an email first notification is the email wich I can tap top open and read the whole email. 2nd notification is only a message with the subject which I can't open further.
edit2: seems like I receive 1 notification with that are emails. and a 2nd one with the email itself. Just recievd 4 mails in 5 seconds. Watch says: 1st notification you have got 4 outlook message. Then I have 4 extra notifications with those email messages.
Maybe it's because of Novalauncher/Teslaunread/Android one on my phone.
- Dateformat is not changeable in WFZ watchfaces, you have to search for an App WF
- No you can't create your own activities.
- music, no clue, don't use it.
- That is the reason why the watch has such a long battery live, if it goes into standby mode the screen is off.
- If you want a Garmin functionality, stay with garmin. This is how it works on the Stratos
Install watch Droid. Use that for all your notifications and to control music on the phone.

In the Amazfit app you can make an sport. Howcome you can't import it to the watch, whats the use of that function then.
It's a sports watch but gym activities like weight lifting or cardio are not included.
My fitbit also uses the standby modus, but aftre flicking the wrist (like the stratos) it comes to live and unlocks itself. No need to push buttons.
I just wanted to try something different the Garmin and Fitbit and this one looked stylish for daily wear.
I hope I can sort the notifications out. That and sports are the mean reason I use a smart sport watch.

Just installed it.
Is there an easy way to get in the notifications from watch droid?
I get around a notification every minute (busy job...)
You could install quick launcher so that you have easy access to watch Droid from the watch screen, but it interferes with custom keyboards if you're using those.
Alternately the paid version of watch Droid allows a notification to also be created within the watch notifications, which you can click to open the larger notification in watch droid

Thanks for the tip, I'm gonna try that out...
I also am a sportinstructor and wanted to use the watch to start/stop the music on my ipad while teaching the class.
That mostly work (can't find out when it does and when it doesn't) but it's not working when I track the excersice in sport on the watch. Then you can't control the music.
Is there any way to control the music (on Ipad) when you are inside a sport activity?
Also I'm still missing a way to track my Hiit training sport activity. In some video's etc I see aerobics as an activity. That one I can use. But it's not in my stratos.
Haven't figured how to change music on the phone during an activity unfortunately.
Stratos doesn't have an option to track HIIT. Some people have reported using elliptical to track gym workouts, but I've not tried that
