Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons for 12 seconds.
Use the Volume down button to scroll to the Power Down option.
Press the Home key to select.
Note The device powers down completely. It is recommended that the device be powered up in Safe Mode.

I just purchased a used Razr XT910 (Rogers) from Best Buy and started setting it up today. At one point, I used the volume buttons to mute the phone, and then things started acting up. The phone is now in persistent 'silent mode.' No matter how much or often I press the volume up button, within seconds the phone will mute itself. Even when I go into Settings and uncheck 'Silent Mode,' it will be checked again almost immediately. The phone is basically unusable now and I am very frustrated.
All I've done to the phone so far:
-no apps apart from what came stock have been installed
-tried turning off the phone and then on (no change)
-tried doing a factory reset, but it dumped me into AP Fastboot (why???)
-setup my Google account
-a few settings have been changed, ie. haptic turned off, vibrate turned off, etc.
-the volume buttons work and aren't stuck
The phone is running Gingerbread 2.3.6 and is from Rogers. Apparently, the phone was tested as working from Best Buy. Is this a hardware or software issue? Should I try doing another factory reset, even though last time it put me into fastboot?
Any suggestions or solutions?
it is strange try another reset and if it put you in fastboot there is an option from there to reset, i dont remember it though, google or youtube it
Well this might sound weird but push on the speaker location. A couple batches of RAZR have an issue (mine included) where the speaker contact comes loose and pressing on the speaker helps make the connection again.
Here is just one of the many threads on it https://vzwsupport.jive-mobile.com/#jive-discussion?content=/api/core/v2/discussions/772234

i don't think his problems with the speaker.. he seems to be referring to the volume option that keeps putting itself into silent mode..

Are you by any chance using the SmartActions or Tasker?
If you are using ICS you can go to Sound -> Volumes and set the ringtone volume from there.
Thanks for the replies, everyone. On Saturday, I decided to try a factory reset through Android again. This time, it reset the phone as it should have. I've been testing the phone (by muting and unmuting, etc.) since then, and it seems that the silent mode problem is now fixed. It looks as though it just needed a proper reset.
I love this phone by the way .

which android version, rom, kernel are you using?
Hello all.
I have been using the I9100 for the 3rd year now, and about a week ago, i started to get the following bug:
When I am in a call, sometimes, without me doing anything, i stop hearing the other side.
When I try to hang up and end the call, i press the red button - AND NOTHING HAPPENS.
For 5-10 minutes while the phone stuck in a "call state", the call disconnects and the phone seems to return to its senses.
Other solution is to restart the phone - all that is really frustrating because it still takes about 5 minutes to return to the call - which sometimes can be important.
Anyone experienced such problem - and maybe found a solution?

Save you're data and factory reset and wipe cache in recovery. Are you rooted? Either way it will /should sort the problem.
Yeah i used to have the same problem when i was on stock 4.1.2. But i didn't have any problem of hearing the other side, only when i used to press the red button to hang up, the touchscreen wouldn't respond. The solution to this is very simple. Just go in the settings and check the option which says "use power key to hang up". After this whenever you press the power key during a call, it forces the phone to hang up. That should solve your "hanging up" problem.
Hit thanks if i helped!
Hi, is any of you guys with the new October update and One UI 2.5 interface have an issue answering the phone calls?
I face the following:
Phone is ringing, I answer, I can hear the other person but I'm not heared. If I enable the speaker and then turn back to headset by disable it, the microphone is working and I can be heared.
The issue is manifesting only when the phone is locked and I receive an call, when the phone is unlocked and I'm calling somebody, everything is normal.
In the normal tests, the microphone is working normaly (for example voice recording).

Hello, I have the same problem after October update. What i figure from now is that is manifesting only when i have the phone sounds on mute. It's working fine with sounds on or on "vibrations" .
And I'm "happy" that is not a problem with my phone, but only a software bug...
I have this problem too. Is there a solution?
I've made an reset to factory settings and problem was solved. I'll see in the future if reappears.

I don't want to perform a factory reset, what about "Maintenance Boot Mode" ? Or "Safe mode boot" - there are some guides on the internet about Galaxy S9 Plus microphone won’t work during calls issue, or Wipe the cache partition?
But Maintenance Boot Mode it seems that is not working anymore - Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 10 seconds - only reboot the phone...

Your better off, taken it to a service center....
Thank you, I will see. Service centers take days only to make a factory reset...
my xperia iii just started acting up. I tried to log in to siriusxm and the screen timed out because I was away for a bit. I tried to turn the screen back on when it got stuck in accessibility mode with the screen off and constantly fired the Google assistant. pushing and holding power does nothing except fire off the assistant three more times. if I can't get it to come back to me I can do a factory reset since I just received this phone yesterday and haven't done much with it. anything I can do here?
This isn't normal behavior. If you can return it.
Assuming you didn't install something stupid it's likely a firmware or hardware issue.
+ 1
Was this a new device? Rooted?
Are you sure that you long pressed the power button and not the Google Assistant button by mistake?

Try pushing and holding power + vol up until it vibrates it'll force restart the device.
1. bought via swappa, listed as mint.
2. unrooted
3. it was the power button. it's below the volume rocker, first button on the side. the assistant is the second (and smaller) button on the side.
4. eventually the phone unfucked itself. I did nothing but wait. this actually happened a second time later on except this time the screen displayed my wallpaper at least. I rebooted as soon as I had control and so far so good. I will try power + vol up next time. btw I'm guessing it may have been a software issue. I was moving from a note 8 that had a bixby specific app that got transferred and activated. however a similar thing happened to me with a galaxy tab 4 (without any kind of software mod) so I don't know. I had to wait for that device to unfuck itself too.

Try Safe Mode. It will temporarily disable a lot of user-space configurations that can cause boot loops. It's good for broken launchers, bad widgets, impossible settings, etc.
Take the microSD card out too. Google worked hard to disable expandable storage starting with Android 11. There's the floppy-disk-slow, absolutely useless SAF and nothing else. Performance workarounds from other phones, even if they're as simple as legacy mount options, will cause bootloops.
