Hi Guys,
lot of users complain on draining battery by Amazfit Pace ... but no one check hardware. Today I opened my watch and I found probably root cause of problem. Reset hole is not enough tight and semiconductors (rest switch and probably pressure sensor) are totally corroded as on photo. I registered support ticket in Xiaomi and I',m waiting for replay. Problem is really really serious because your sweat can damage watch ...

Good pics. But the watch does not have a reset switch: on whole is for the mic and the other for the barometer. And I think you cannot repair a broken flat cable, only replace it (or the whole part if you cannot remove only the cable).
Considering it's only a 4-wire flat cable, you could try scraping the plastic insulation off and soldering onto it. Probably a tedious job, but if it saves the watch...
Hi Guys,
one more time here So, I bought amazfit with broken battery and I replaced barometer sensor and mic module ... battery life back to normal operation mode - 4 - 5 days

Hi
Could you please tell us how to open the watch? it seems very fit and hard to disassemble.
And if the mic and barometer sensor will be removed, does the watch works or they must be replaced?
I have a non working air pressure sensor from time to time. It shows only a static value. Sometimes it works again. But it seems that the reason could be the corrosion as mentioned.
@SpecPC On which way did you contact Huami (email, forum, ...)?
Such flex can be easily repaired by scraping off the insulation and soldering some copper wire strands on top.
So it seems it is really not waterproof? I guess I should glue all of holes, since I don't have a use for mic and barometer. And pulse reader.
Why do companies add fitness features that barely work, instead of focusing on proper notification and readability handling, is above me. I don't know of a single device that does notifications properly. Pebble was a step in right direction, but pebble no more.

The pace is not waterproof and never claimed to be, it's water resistant (splashes, sweat etc). The stratos is waterproof, and doesn't have a microphone to allow for that
is our amazfit stratos got mic?

No, it's one reason it's waterproof while Pace isn't.
what if u remove mic and try to turn on amazfit? is it still be working?
well , i took a night ride and it was raining , after that i noticed that the battery was draining very fast . i took the watch and i put it in a bowl full of rice and put the watch inside the bowl . i let it there one night , i don't know if i have the same battery usage as new but definetly has improved .try it

Thats my question too, I tried to open the watch but it is too fit and I couldn't do it even with a heater.
Unfortunately no one answered how to do it without damaging the watch.

I have the same experience. I tried with hair dryer for 5 minutes and then attacking with special toolkit for opening smartphones - like a really thin and sharp triangle to play on gitar. No luck unfortunately. I think I will wait some time and try once again with much more power and harm... But I think I can damage it or at least I will downgrade it from IP67 down to not water ressistant at all.
I opened mine with 2 minutes hair dryer and a knife.
I disconnect the part near the hole and did a factory resert and the clock stopped drain the battery.
the compass which was already broken disappeared from the menu.

The battery used for test is a BST-38 li-ion and should be 1200mah 2€ so I don't expect to be a great battery but this is only for reference.
tear down instructions
Please read all before starting this will help you choose the most convenient acting way.
Removal of original battery from its placing is a pain in the ass, cause it is very well attached to the aluminium cover whith a very sticky double-face tape ...so proceed with caution, after that I preferred to remove that tape: this permits to connect the battery "the rough way (img 10)" and then place the cover whithout sticking.

This battery was easy to disassemble by removing printed tape and making a small cut on the bottom
...but be aware this may be not so easy with others!!
6
7
8
soldered wires, this is a very complicated step for those who do not know how to use a solder very well, short circuit is round the corner, so first solder positive wire, then cover it with a good thermal tape then proceed with green (again cover it) and finally go for black. (however remember to solder wires in a sequence that avoids overlapping of wires while soldering: if the sequence was black>green>red it would have been easy to melt black wire while soldering green wire... and melt both green and black wire's cover while soldering red)
Note that wires are soldered to run on the opposite direction in comparison wiht the original battery wiring, the reason is to obtain a perfect fit into battery compartment and to obtain a better resistance to wire dragging.
9
Paper tape has been used to insulate battery's body.
Please note that this picture does not show the final battery placing, you should imagine the batteryrotated by 180° (with wires on the right of the current image and then running on the side of the battery up to the hole which exposes the connector).
So make sure the wires are long enough if you are wishing to use this setup
(otherwise simply solder wires to run the opposite way compared to img 8).
(warning: the whole body is the Negative pole of the battery)
10
Wires need to be cut perfectly to make sure they don't move,
green wire should be a little bit shorter than red and black shorter than green.
Wire's edges are stained, flattened with plain edge pliers to fit into connector (a hammer and a flat surface will do the job too) and cut to result fully inserted (this avoids unwanted wire scattering while plugging into connector). All this paying much attention to not short circuit wires (I suggest to ready wires one by one insulating with tape each edge, when done proceed by deinsulating and plugging one by one).
warning : positive (red wire) and middle battery contact (green wire) are both positive so prevent any hazard, notice that the whole battery's body is NEGATIVE so handle all wires paying much attention!!
yeah I know i did'nt use the original connector but this is not meant to be a permanent solution
and still have the original battery usable
Before closing the hole with its rubber cover I placed some folded paper on the wires shown in image 10 (just to make sure the cables don't move).
Thanks to TheCuteCriminal for making public that Bst-38 batteries can be modded to fit
Good work !!!
Good tutorial & good Job Gx3.......
This will be helpful for many people....
And thanks for mentioning my name.....
ps: now im modding our data-cable. Hope after modding, the USB-OTG feauture will be available on our mini's.
for who's interested this battery seems not so bad,
yesterday I had poor performance while calibrating but today is behaving much better, however I will give you more accurate details after few more power cycles cause the battery seems to have been stocked for a long time (traces of rust inside inner contacts )
this thread is now linked in the 3rd post of my FAQ
thk you both
regarding the 1200mah 3gpower battery:
now seems to have reached its ful capacity (in 5 cycles)
when I made the substitution the original battery used to last 8-9h with 3g data on and without sync (running miniCM 2.3.1), til now it endured about 800-900 charging cycles
It is well known that minicm (cyanogenmod) has a high battery drain under 3g with data on and
this battery lasts 12h with data on and sync enabled (more power drain), + 20 call minutes.
now I completed the definitive calibration, and will test in normal conditions
I can tell it behaves a little better than original when was new and it seems that dischargnig is more linear
takes about 100 min for charge vs first charge's 60 minutes
It took a while to obtain an almost full battery waking, but now it is all ok
more details in the next few days
Seems complicated, thank god I got a mini pro.
so how is the battery performing in everyday life? better than stock or similar to it?
Good tutorial ! Thanks!
I've just ordered the gold bst 38 2430mah battery... this is meant to be a more serious attempt with a much nicer battery... and eager to unveil results

yes
if your device isnt water resistant then it isnt air tight, so if your device is sealed and your are increasing the preassure by squeezing your phone a tiny bit then its theoreticly water resistant..
and since your preasure value should only increase if your flaps are close this only increases the validity of this test.
(mine do atleast )
Tnx
Thanks for your fast reply , can you reply me this too siince I see you have Z2 like me http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/sony-xperia-z2-xperias-mode-t3047209

Btw this is how my Z2 reacts on pressure sensor when I press it from 1013 it goes to 1023 then it comes to back 1013 in faster then second when I stop pressing it, also when I keep pressure (my thumbs on phone few secs) it goes from 1023 to 1013 slowly even if I'm not removing my thumbs from phone, so I hope it's good or should it stay from 1013 to 1023 whole time I'm pressing it (not removing thumbs)?
It's a normal thing when you pressed and pressure jump at first and come back to normal. It's because pressue stabilizes it self in phone.
So?
also when I keep pressure (my thumbs on phone few secs) it goes from 1023 to 1013 slowly even if I'm not removing my thumbs from phone, so I hope it's good or should it stay from 1013 to 1023 whole time I'm pressing it (not removing thumbs)? So this is normal too?
It's normal, nothing to worry about but for me, a real waterproof test is when you actually put your phone in water ! ;D
I have to disagree.
If your front or back glass gets loose, it won't be waterproof anymore but when you compress the phone it will temporarily close the gap and you'll see pressure rise in your phone.
Oh

Oh man you shouldn't reply me that . My Z2 has 2 minor gaps like all waterproof xperias have, sheet of small and thin paper can go through but not deep. I'm not scared of that but my Z2 creaks too, when I push it stronger below sony logo on back. With all that pressure test works great like it should and guy from which I bought phone told me he used it in pool, I also saw pictures and videos he did not deleted but I'm still scared to put it in water. Ordering new usb and microsd flaps from ebay now and magnetic charger so I would not need to open flaps anymore, device is going to be 9 months old soon .
PS: Sony said that flaps are not thing you need to be concerned of with waterproofing.
I'm sorry but I don't know about that gaps.
Please tell me what to look for.
My z2 has the frame that moves a bit, around the power button, and it worries me a lot because I really need it to be waterproof....
it's not a 100% sure test. I tested my phone with this method and it worked, but then I tried to submerge my phone into water and a few hours later my touchscreen got broken. here is a link to my thread about the water damage.

Hello guys, I am curious about taking some underwater photos with my Z3, never have done it before. I have been researching and found possitive and negative experiences, I want you to post your experiences if you have taken your Z3 underwater.:good:
If your are in the U.S. you can purchase a Kodak disposable waterproof digital camera for $15.00. Considering that both Sony and Verizon are now saying do not immerse your phone in water you may be better off going the Kodak route.

Are you asking about the Z3 or the verizon variant, Z3v? I've taken plenty of photos with my Z3v underwater and it's pretty great.
As far as the Z3, I've heard numerous events of faulty waterproofing because of the lanyard hole on the corner. It isn't sealed as tightly, therefore compromises the IP68 rating of the phone.

The Verizon Variant is the D6708, which is modeled after the Xperia Z2. It has the Z3 Snapdragon 801 AC chip and other small refinements, but that's it.
The Z3v is waterproof and hasn't failed me yet. Go underwater, take pictures, and all of that. No problems. :good:
My z3v works well for music in the shower and I've used it sparingly in water without issues. Significant other has the z3c and she uses it in pools and such without issue. The luck of the z3v is the qi charging though. Less wear on the seals.

I use the magnetic charging dock for keeping the seals in good condition. I encountered that problem once with the first XPERIA Z at the headset port. The magnetic dock was the first thing i purchased for my Z3.
Last week I had the first real dropdown on the waterproofness of the Z3, but that was a bit of my own debt too. I dropped my phone a few weeks ago and had the metal part at the top a bit standig off at the headphone port. As i used it under the shower, water got inside through that gap and killed my phone. After sending my phone in for repair, I was awaiting that they don't repair it because it was damaged by water. But, surprisingly I got a brand new phone in the mail today. Thumbs up for Sonys repair center (w-support) here in germany.

That's really nice they gave you a new phone. This just means that protective cases go a long way in maintaining a phone's structure from falling apart
Always use qi charging myself, never open up the port except when putting in my sim

I've used it in pools for long period of time and at depths of 8 feet

I've also used it in the ocean as a camera on a jet ski, it was soaked for hours at a time in salt water.
I've had the phone for almost 2 years and it has seen lots of water. I mainly use wireless chargers at home and in the car, but I also use wired chargers almost daily when I need a quick charge at work or at home.
The only issue I've noticed after all the submerging is that salt water oxidizes the phone jack contacts, where they turn green. Nothing a little alcohol and tissue can't fix. Fresh water has no effect on the phone as long as charge port is properly sealed.
Your experience with z3 might be different.

I'm on my second Z3V. Had all the ports closed, did a barometer test just before taking it in the pool. Sony replaced it for free.
Swam in many pools, jumped off diving boards, went down water slides, dived down in Aruba while snorkeling around 10 feet and it's still ticking. Tooks lots of video and photos. Headphone jack occasionally had some odd activity afterwards when water got in there, but always worked fine when I shook it out. And yes, a bit of oxidization on the port too, which I cleaned.
Out of nowhere my display has a defect on the left side, a yellow line from top-down, ca. 1.5 cm, that can best be seen on light, better white, background. Maybe it results from the magnetic charger ....
Anyone else?

it seems HTC One X has same problem and it occours when phone get's hot , I think your problem is caused by heat too , since there is placed the heatpipe that gets almost same hot as CPU

I have that exact same orange tint. Never heated my Z2, but it used to get BOILING hot during use.

I think it's a real rare problem, but it exists.
There seems to exist no easy repair solution.
Thank you all for your response

yea because it basically burns the LCD , physical damage .
Maybe some devices have a low PV so CPU uses high voltage to run and get hot faster and if you live in a hot country then this is the result , dunno , just my opinion . Feel bad for you guys , I hope RMA fix it for you :-/
I had a similar problem in the past with a BQ tablet, the RMA solution were easy... New screen. My z2 is on guaranty until July (Xperia Care checked) and I've restored my TA locking the BL again, then I've installed a clean stock rom with PCCompanion, so I hope it comes back with a new screen in two, three weeks. It's not a firmware problem.
Let's see what they do...
its because of permanent heating damage, z2 collects heat from all the other areas of phone and dissipates towards that area near sim port .... i too have the same problem ..and your solution would be a screen replacement .

correct , because in that zone under display sits that heatpipe that collects all heat from SoC
If your phone is still under warranty they will replace your screen. It's normal and it affects many phones, it's the silicon between the glass and the LCD from prolonged use and the generated heat. Also do not overcharge your phone, they mostly appear next to the usb port.
I bought my z2 already used at 250€, but I feel like people who got it at 600€ got screwed. Can be damaged if goes underwater (waterproof anyone?), can be damaged if it heats too much, or if dust get in the lens (dust-proof anyone?)...
I don't know what do you guys think, but I'm not that happy with my z2 hardware.
Except that, I really think it's an excellent phone
Today I've received my Z2 from the RMA... New screen, new frame with new buttons, new back cover... Looks like a new one!!
Guaranty repaired at 0 cost... Now I can sell it next summer as a km 0 one...
BL unlocked, backup restored and writing with it
I've allso faced overheating after rooting with kingroot. The phone behaved really weird and did got very hot. Allso battery life was very poor.
you scare me guys , in my country summer peak temp is 36-38 celsius :-s
I hope my undervolt helps it not get lcd burns
Hello guys,
so my phone fell down the freaking roof - don't ask  Of course the screen was completely cracked, but the phone still kind of worked. Touching the fingerprint sensor with a wrong finger made the phone vibrate and I could even talk to the phone via Google and it answered me. ("Hey google, what time is it?"). So I assumed, replacing the screen might completely repair my phone. But before buying a new Screen, I wanted to disassemble the phone, to check the inside.
Everything looked fine until I noticed the following two issues on the MB:

On the upper image: Take a look on the 3 (I think antenna?) connectors. One of them broke off.
Lower image: The connector for the side buttons broke off. Or is it normal like that?
So is this repairable or should I just buy a new phone? Thank you very much...
if repair cost worth more than xiaomi A3 or Note7pro
then buy new one
It looks normal

I'd suggest you pick up a replacement screen (€15 or so on AliExpress) and have a pop at it yourself. I had to take mine apart a few weeks ago to do a simple repair - was surprised it was as straightforward as it was
I'd been quoted €80 by a local repair shop - I did the job myself in less than an hour
YouTube vid here was helpful https://youtu.be/LlubcWbsSQk
Have to say, I can't see anything broken around the antenna connector, but I couldn't be sure

Sorry it is hard to see. I should have marked it. What I mean are the 3 metal "hooks" which are supposed to press against the black plastic cover which is mounted on top of the mainboard (when assembled... the plastic cover cannot be seen in the photo, because I removed it). If you look closely, the upper one of the three connectors broke off, the two lower ones are intact. Is that the antenna for mobile network or WiFi? I have the fear that when I get a new display I see that the network isn't working anymore. Then it would be a waste of money for the new screen...
And yes I'd definetly do the replacement on my own. It's not that hard. Question is just if it is worth to buy the display, or if that damage on the connector is unfixable.
EDIT: I updated the pictures above. It should be clearer now what I mean

Could you recheck on the new pictures? Do you still say it is normal? Can I buy the display?
Ok, I think I get you now, and I think I have good news
If I remember correctly the mobile antenna connector is located toward the opposite end of the motherboard - by which I mean the corner out of shot in your second photo, so you're ok in that respect
Even better news, have a look at the photos on the following link:
https://vrm24.com/instructions/xiaomi/xiaomi-xiaomi-pocophone-f1/xiaomi-xiaomi-pocophone-f1
You'll notice in the pics from step 6 on (after the motherboard plate is off) that those 3 parts look just the same as yours - I don't think yours are broken
Also the connector for the side buttons looks fine - I remember you need to be very careful when reassembling that you don't trap them and snap the connecting ribbon
So hopefully it is just the screen that's knackered and you can fix it for pennies
I've read on here of people finding replacement screens all have different colour reproduction, but presumably that's something you can recalibrate within MIUI settings
Good luck with it
By the way, if you can activate Google assistant, can't you just ask it to place a call, or Google something (with your router off, obv) to check that the mobile signal is intact?

Thank you for the link. The three connector hooks which connect to the plastic cover indeed look fine. I don't know about the side buttons though. I assembled it back together again (without the display) and was able to start the phone. I was unable to change the volume of google assistants voice through the side buttons though. The side button connector is loosely placed above the MB and only pushed onto the MB by the plastic cover, unlike all the other connectors (LCD, Battery etc.) which snap into the mainboard.
Also thank you for the tip with assistant. I was actually able to test the torch and also both cameras by saying "Take a photo" or "Take a selfie". I could see the photos in the google cloud a few minutes later and they look fine.
However I was unable to test mobile network connectivity. Disabeled wifi, put the SIM Card back in and tried to let the assistant send a text message. It only says "Sorry I couldnt do that because your mobile data is turned off". And after saying "Turn mobile data on" the device remains silent.
I think I'll get an LCD + frame from aliexpress (20€) now and also a new loudspeaker module (6€), because the voice sounds a little distorted. Hopefully that will fix the phone
Just to say, the mobile antenna connector on mine was pretty fiddly - I put the phone together and had to reassemble it after finding I had no signal because it wasn't correctly placed
