Warranty replacement screens awful? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I got my s9+ through Verizon, and the charging port doesn't always work. Sometimes it only works if you plug it in on one direction, sometimes not at all, sometimes you get a moisture warning. So I decided to get a replacement through vzw, but the replacement had noticeably bad colors. I sent that one back and got another, but this one has very noticeable ghosting/trails and black crush. At this point, I think I'll just love with the bad charging. What the hell is up with these screens? Anyone else gotten a warranty replacement and got a really crap screen?

You're playing refurb roulette... You can try contacting Samsung direct for repairs on your existing phone but then you're gonna be phoneless for about two weeks.

Nah mate, ghosting and black crush is software issue visible mostly when you dim the screen to low levels and that I think is software issue which will be fixed I hope, its already little better on BRE5 update on my exynos s9+ and my phone is brand new. Everyone have the same issue...

I got my third one from VZW and it's the closest to the original screen. Colours aren't as vibrant but there's no black crush, so I'll take it, better than not being able to charge. Not really happy with it but whatever.

Stuck/dead pixel...what are my options??

Hey all, I'm a new Droid Razr Maxx owner! I bought it off contract from someone locally and I'm really happy with the phone so far!
With one exception....I noticed a stuck/dead pixel last night off to the right a bit of the center of the screen.
Someone with more knowledge than me can tell me which it is, but it shows up white on dark backgrounds. I think that's a stuck one correct?
Anyhow, I ran one of those stuck pixel apps last night while I was sleeping and it's still there. So I'm afraid I'm SOL right? Would Motorola see this as a reason to replace the screen under warranty? I highly doubt it, but just looking for options.
If I can't do anything about it, I guess I will just have to live with it. But I'm pretty anal about stuff like that haha.

If it is, you don't need to worry. There is a bigger chance you will get a phone with another bigger fault if you exchange it. I didn't exchange mine
Also it's not precisly a stuck pixel it has something to do with the gpu because everytime the capative buttons is on aka lighted it's visible.
Mine isn't much like yours. Mine is a stuck white pixel towards the middle of the screen and it stays in that location no matter what.
It's weird because it doesn't show up on a black screen. It shows up on gray and more neutral colors. It's like the size of a pinhole but it's pretty annoying. I'm assuming it's annoying because I know it's there lol.
Unless you're brave enough to replace the screen, I'd try to get it replaced. My old G'Nex had a speaker issue. It slowly started acting up until it bit the bullet. I didn't buy my phone from Verizon and when I went to a store they said they wouldn't help me. I called 611 (from within the store- at this point I was pissed). I explained that I didn't buy my phone from Verizon but it is a manufacturer's defect. They advised me to take it to a store for review, told them I was at one, they finally just agreed to send me a "like new" replacement.
Now, maybe the fact that I've been with them 10 years, never missed a payment, and am currently not under contract had an affect, but I always seem to get much better results when I call in rather than go to a store.
Call them, worse they can say is no.

you can try wrapping in plastic and putting in freezer overnight but that will set off moisture sensor and u lose warranty

I got on an online chat with Motorola and they said to send in my phone for evaluation and POSSIBLE repair. I asked if they would even be able to see what I'm seeing and if they would deem a repair for it. She said send it in and they will take care of it.
Color me skeptical. Should I try it?

If it doesn't do this on a black screen, it's more likely a defect in the glass than a video RAM or OLED defect.
A GPU or video RAM defect would always display the defect, even with black backgrounds, because that pixel would always have one of the high-order bits set.
Try looking at the pixel with a jeweler's magnifying glass, and tilt the screen back and forth while viewing the defect closely. If it's the glass, it will be obvious. If not, you can replace the OLED display, which will be expensive (more so if you have it done).
It could be a grain of sugar stuck to the glass...

[Q] EVO LTE Screen Flex/LCD Ripple Issues?

Unfortunately my OCD kicked in and I returned my first EVO LTE as it had peace of dust under the screen and slight light leakage at the bottom. Other than that my screen never had any flex or ripple issues and I am regretting that I took it in for an exchange!! My 1st exchange unit had a pixel that was stuck in the on position and had seriously bad LCD ripple effect. Took that back to a different Best Buy and the second exchange also has this same LCD ripple effect. It is most noticeable on black screens if you lightly press around the sides like you are scrolling up and down a web page. It can also be scene on the home screen. My question is, how many people have this issue? I am crossing my finger and hoping I can get a unit again that doesn't as I truely am pleased with the other aspects of this phone and can deal with the other small little hickups of a new product launch.
I have none of this.
my OG Evo had this after I replaced the digitizer. i assumed i did something wrong since the one before it did not. no issues on my lte
Limited sample of responses so far, but seems to be looking more positive than I expected it to be!
Maybe I have a better chance of my next replacement not having this issue than I thought! I hope it was just a bad batch for this area and the next shipment will be better!
Had same ripple issues
Hi..well I got my evo lte on a pre order. I ve had all the evos thru the last couple years and the LTE is a very good phone. I noticed the exact same thing,when I would gently push or tap on the screen it would have clothes of light that we're very bad,and on black screens that was even worse. I called sprint and they told me to go to a store to exchange it. I went to the store and the manager was awesome we sat down and he brought out 5 brand new EVO LTE s for us to try. At his amazement they all were as bad if not worse then mine on the ripple effect. I have a galaxy 2 touch and when we pushed on that screen no matter how hard it showed no signs of light bleeding or rippling at all. He didn't know what to tell me but did they say the screen on the htc should not do that at all and it might be a bad batch. To me it seemd the glass on the LCD screen didn't bond well with the glue they used,and when you pushed or tapped it would go down into the LCD screen. I know when you push directly on a LCD tv,computer screen it will give you the same similar effect. I called sprint and told them I was returning the phone and the lady in the return department told me she has had a few calls about people wanting to return the phone because of this issue. I really like the LTE,but couldn't put up with the screen issues. I am going to wait till the galaxy 3 comes out and also by then check out the EVO lte again to see if the problem has been fixed.
Sigh first off mine does this but I have to apply more force then is needed for the phone to register the touch. Second off WHY are you pushing with any kind of pressure to even do that? Now if you're just touching the LCD and it is doing this I understand. Also even in the vid it looks like more force is being applied as needed but not as much as I have to apply? That being said if you think sgsiii will be better well it will cause it doesn't use a LCD lolol.
Edit I think this is to have gorilla glass 2 which is thinner so chances of this happening are going to be common I'd assum of you push down on the screens lol.

From my experience I am not applying any more pressure than I would use normally. That is the only reason I noticed it. I was typing in my numerical pass code on a black screen and saw the ripples. I then did further investigation. The video might not be the best reproduction of how you get the problem under normal use, but it does show what the problem looks like. My first phone I actually used more pressure on trying to figure out what the dust spot was and never had this issue occur so had no clue what I would run into with an exchange. This is a production issue on some LTE's and One X's. The below comment was posted in an article on the One X in April. I just think some phones are much more noticeable than others and who knows what this issue will turn into over the life of the phone.

Ok well then that's a diff story and I'm wondering if it due to the glue not curing by the time it got to you... Or a lack of glue. Since the glue has apparently been a problem this time around for HTC lol. And glad to know you won't defect to the sgsiii. The one thing I don't understand is why Samsung uses the gn as a beta for their sgs line. Same screen on gn and sgsiii but its to be slightly better.(only cause they used the gn as a test)

Yep, glue on this current phone has the screen slowly getting white. Started out kind of yellow and now most of it is white with the bottom section still a little yellow. Going to give it till Friday to see if anything improves and if not I will test out the new shipment at Best Buy and try my hand at another exchange.
Update:
Went back to Best Buy and we opened up and looked at 5 different phones and EVERY single one of them had this issue. Some worse than others, but it was still apparent.
Not giving up though, trying a different store today to see how that works. I know my very first phone did NOT have this issue, just had a small speck of dust and slight light leakage..... I SOOO wish I had that phone back! Should have never returned it.
Update on my OCD - LCD Flex Issue:
5 Different Best Buys in two different states. Every phone I have tested had this issue to some extent (18 different phones tested). Some worse than others. I now believe my original phone had the issue, but was just less noticeable. Also, the screens normally do start out with more of a yellow tint from the glue. This mostly goes away after a few days of high brightness use, but sometimes a slight yellow band at the bottom remains. I think HTC doubled up the glue to help with the light leakage issues they are known for in the past.
Current phone has white balance closer to a pure white than a light yellow. (no yellow band at bottom either. This screen still has the flex issue but needs medium/medium heavy pressure to see on a black screen. I should never have to press that hard on anything to ever notice it. I am almost perfectly happy now, only bad thing is it does have one stuck pixel at the top of the screen (can't be seen on Pink, Red, Blue or Black, but is apparent on Yellow, Light Blue, Green, White and Gray). Would have never noticed it without the dead pixel test. I would rather have that than have it sensitive to the flex issue and any yellow tint to my white screen.
So, if you have not noticed the flex issue, then DO NOT look for it or try to reproduce it. You will most likely find it. Not a show stopper and should not be reproduced under normal use (Except for the few bad eggs that are really sensitive).

Replacement Phones

I'm trying to get some input from those that have received replacement phones. How has it differed from your original?
My original Amaze was great with little screen bleed, no camera flash leak, its only defects were the weak WiFi signal and it would over heat from time to time until the camera burned out.
My first replacement had the same issues as my original on top of a really wonky notification vibrator.
I'm on my second replacement now and its been great. It has very little to no screen bleed which I think adds up from the capacitive lights being the same hue as the ones in the sensation instead of that bright white the first 2 amazes had. This current phone also seems to have a some what dimmer screen with a very slight yellow tinge to it.
These two minor defects actually make this my favorite amaze out of the 3. I'm getting awesome battery life with the screen on, and may actually stay on stock for a good while.
Would love to hear from you guys and see what defects are out there and to see maybe how HTC is trying to fix them with these refurbs.

i actually bought a amaze from a guy. phone looked fine then when it got dark the soft keys stay on bright and theres a white light coming from the bottom of the screen and it does not turn off when the screen is off. i tried calling tmobile but they said my phone hasnt registered with my account in their system so they cant send me a replacement just yet. i mean i have insurance and extended warranty im not worried i know tmobile has to send me a replacement.

Screen Defect, What Can it Be?

Hey everyone, so I bought a Droid DNA about a week ago. The unit is near perfect; no SIM card issues, audio issues, overheating issues, battery issues, etc. Using it for about 2 days in, however, I discovered a minor imperfection. Specifically, the center of the screen seems to have something of a bright white pixel that is visible on a white or light-colored background only, more so at a specific angle and in a darker setting and looking at it very close. Most of the times, it is virtually unnoticeable, unless you know where to look for it. Now, it doesn't bother me that much in day-to-day usage, and I honestly don't want to go through the hassle of setting up a new phone, whether exchanging in-store or through a Certified Like New Replacement. This is strange, though. I don't think it's a dead pixel, as it is not black. I don't think that it's a stuck pixel either, because it's only viewable on a white back background, and if it was a stuck white pixel, should be viewable on a black background as well (which it is not). I'm attaching some macro shots I made with my DSLR. Any ideas?

Figured as much Still, I'd like to know exactly what it is. I don't think it's a stuck or dead pixel, it doesn't behave like either. I don't think it's dust, as I've had that on an iPad once and it was darker and looked different.... it just seems like a cluster of overly bright pixels in that area, or perhaps a back light problem.

I noticed the same thing (slightly different spot), and have been debating sending it in. I don't really want to have to go back to my thunderbolt now though. Did you end up sending it in? If so, how long did it take?

I ended up not sending it in. I think its not that big of an issue. Worst case, I'll request a replacement towards the end of my one year warranty, so that I can have a relatively new phone for the remainder of my contract. Backing up everything and setting up a new phone would just be too tedious. Again, I don't think its a big issue.

For those who have screen issues but still kept the phone...

Did you change any settings to the display? Did you use any apps to mitigate the issue? I really like the phone except for the fact I get black crush with dark shades of dark colors. It's enough to make me want to exchange for a galaxy s8 plus. I have until Thursday at 2 mountain time to make this decision.
So any ideas or tricks or tips? Thank you all very much.
Why not exchange it for another V30? We're into December now.
Because apparently the people at t mobile don't see anything wrong with it enough to warrant exchanging.
Also this phone was manufactured 11/10.
Any other suggestions?

Lol just say you got screen blotches, black crush at low brightness, and heavy blue tint and theyll replace it with warranty exchange. Thats what worked for me

Can you compare it to a display model that has no issues? Or ask to speak to the team member assigned to the phone. T-Mobile assigns employees different phones so they have an "expert".

I'm on my 3rd V30, stores near me are out of stock, waiting till they get some so I can exchange for a 4th. I'm going to keep the phone and if I end up with another lemon, I'm going to wait it out and just do a warranty exchange, which I really want to avoid. Everything about this phone is great, hence me putting up with this. I have until he 16th of March.
1st: noticeable vertical line in center after 6 hrs of owning.
2nd: at first very faint vertical line (took under 24 hrs to be noticeable), and now with tinting when phone is at angle.
3rd: incredibly faint vertical line in center, faint horizontal line at top half of phone, and now have blotching.

Got my V30 from Tmobile on 1st March. Noticed Many lines when at low brightness level (16%) when viewing greys especially chrome incognito. Called LG they asked me to send in my phone. I will be sending it in tomorrow. Will take 2 weeks for repair (not sure if they'll replace the whole handset or repair it). My friend got the same phone and she does not have the problem at all. I'm so jealous of her. I think you should send in your phone too since this is not a small investment and since you know the phone has display issues it'll always be on your mind.
