Bye V10 I wish I could say it was a good run - Verizon LG V10

My VZW V10 was great for 2.5 years. Then it just stopped. Nothing I did could bring it back. It would get to the LG boot screen but no further (and only after a battery pull). It was a great and underrated phone.

I enjoyed it immensely in spite of several missteps by LG. The audio DAC and camera were absolutely outstanding. Everything else, less so. I have it rooted and debloated, but it is just my back up phone at this point.
I managed to get a Note 8 and I have it rooted. I do not foresee buying another LG phone ever again.

I'm afraid of that. Sometimes mine won't wake up. Never had any other trouble. Rooted and debloated and I love the camera, but I'm always afraid it's gonna die on me. Did you have the same symptoms?

No, never had any issue with the phone, oitside of not being able to root it after the OTA. Last thing I did on it was receive a call on BT, an hour later picked it up and it is as dead.
What's really scary is about 3 weeks ago my new G7 thinq did the same thing. Recovery brought it back though.

A Few Thoughts As I Return The Photon

Had the Photon for 29 days, installed the Maintenance Release 5 and continued to have the no audio on calls and random reboot issues. Based on the actions of the phone the last few days that I had it I came to a few conclusions.
When the no audio happened if I hit the mute button the audio would be there and I could hear the call just fine. I noticed that after a no audio call if I attempted to go into call history and click the person who just called and attempted to call the phone would always reboot. This lead me to conclude ( and I would appreciate it if someone who post some thoughts ) that no audio indicates the software has encountered problems and is no longer stable. The actions of the buttons are reversed and the system is on the verge of crashing. Any further action after the call will result in a system reboot. This leads me to believe the OS is prone to not being stable for whatever reason. Why this occurs is unknown.
I noticed that when the phone was flat on my desk, sometimes hooked up to power source, sometimes not, the phone would reboot on it's own. This indicated that even without user intervention the phone OS would become unstable, crash and reboot. What causes this is unknown.
I have since returned the phone to Sprint for a full refund with no restocking fee ( I suspect their technician was able to duplicate the no audio).
While the phone was fast, had a lot of storage space, great reception and great clarity the unstable OS caused me to return it.
Sounds like a hardware problem. I have yet to have a reboot and after the update, I have yet to get a muted call.

There are two problems at hand here, user error and malfunctioning hardware. You should know full well that if you are having issues such as rebooting upon laying the phone down with a charger that something isn't soldered properly in the phone. Swapping it would alleviate this issue. With the final build (CM5) being available in SBF form, along with two very stable and powerful roms, very few people are having any issues of updated properly. It's unfortunate to see another user put this phone down instead of working through the issues, but I guess android isn't for everyone.

User error? Really? Note I said I had the CM5 installed and still had the no audio issues. And since when does having the action of the mute button on a call being reversed happen as a result of something not being soldered properly? Note that the reboot happened when the phone was on the charger and when it was not. When it was laying flat and when I was holding it upright and looking through the contact list. I like Android just fine. Had an Evo for a year but upgraded because it lacked internal storage space. I plan on going to the Galaxy SII in a few weeks and last I read that's an Android phone.

What he means is that you didn't even bother to have sprint replace this phone for you. You settled, thinking it was a software problem. Which any user here would most likely come to the conclusion after reading your post that it wasn't. Random reboots like that would have sent me back directly to the sprint store demanding another phone. Companies make bad batches, and stores get those bad batches. The fact is you just settled for a phone that was working sub par. I have gone through 3 phones, all with different problems, but I don't settle. They give you that 30 days for a reason.
Would you do the same thing had you went to best buy and bought a computer from them that did the same thing? Random reboots, no sound, etc etc....
Mine as well as most others phones on here work perfect, maybe the random force close from an app or something, but I don't get any muted calls, random reboots, and if I did you better bet I wouldn't settle for it.
Good luck to you in Samsung land.

funny...Ive had no problems before or after the ota...the phone is stable as a rock...call quality is outstanding, no dropped calls like my old EVO..but im not sure the issues is random hardware problems per phone
This is killing me as I real think the photon hardware wise is one the all around best out...
Moto need to get off over their attuned about software... officially unlock the dam phone release the dam Kernel asap and let great independent software talent write and fix bugs for great hardware and so so code
Just do not think Moto puts the time in on thier code that then need too...
The only problem I've had with this phone was no audio a few times. After updating to 45.2.5, that problem has now been resolved. Photon is running like a champ.

I did get a replacement phone and I experienced the same symptoms on both of them.
I do have information that confirms that Motorola was aware of the reboots and that MR5 was supposed to fix this. I did have MR5 on here.
I had an atrix before having this and put Alien Build 4. I was floored by the battery life and the ROM and device was rock solid.
I have a brick at the moment. This became a brick after rebooting loop similar to not wiping the davlik cache before a boot. It was stock. I was going to unlock and root to see if it helped the battery life.
I had been more excited about this phone than almost any other one. I have been a beta tester of Motorola devices, but I believe this one may have been pushed out the door a little too early.
I am glad people have this working well and I am glad for them. I will still love this phone even though I have experienced issues. It easily could have been a bad batch that is triggered by certain circumstances.
After the update - my silent call issue was 100% fixed. Maybe you need to a do a factory reset? I do that after all major OS updates.

I never had anything I couldn't recover from ODIN even a partial flash(or even if it reset before it could finish flashing). I rooted both Epic 4G and Droid Charge with Odin. Just flashed a couple of Samsung Moments last week but they didn't require ODIN.
My phone will boot sometimes so it won't even stay booted. Doesn't matter what I do to it.
Djspinister - It will boot but not stay booted, it just reboots. I haven't ever had a bad flash that I couldn't recover from. I have flashed Windows Mobile devices, iOS devices that were eventually jailbroken. I have flashed several times right before going out to eat dinner only to have it fully recovered before the food came out. This just has to be a bad phone. It is a brick phone.

After reading on numerous other sites of people on their 3rd or 4th Photon and still suffering from the same problem I decided not to bother. As for Samsung, before the Evo I had two Samsung products that were absolute rocks for me. Solid with no issues and performed well. Using a Samsung Instinct right now.
My Photon is 100% trouble free. Calls are clear, battery lasts, etc.
Te only real issue is that I do not love the bluish tint on the LCD. Anyone know how to alter the gamma?

I upgraded from an EVO on Friday. My new Photon began crashing and doing the no audio on Saturday. I exchanged it at the Sprint store later that day and have had no issues with the second Photon. I really like the Photon much better than the EVO.
Has no one else been told in the Sprint store that you can only exchange once and then you're stuck with the device???? They told me they only allow future exchanges through warranty (i.e., Motorola will ship me a new one...no in-store exchanges).
Is this just wrong information?

Embrassed with Photon!

OK, I posted in the "What don't you like about Photon" thread I was tired of people complaining about the same crap. I'm not going to complain (Yet) and when I get home, I'm putting the Photon back to Sprint Stock for a minute..............
@ 1.5 months ago, I had a friend over the house. She wanted Pizza. After @ 2 minutes of me dicking with Photon, she opened app on HTC Inspire, ordered Pizza and even got confirmation call and I STILL had screen freezing and app not open.
Me and same friend went to Hockey Game Sunday where my job had a suite. I took her phone and took picture of her and mascot. I took me 30 seconds to get my camera ready and no freaking clue what happen to picture. File size is 0! Not to mention 1 hour later after 8 pictures, battery was at 20% and I had to shut it off. She snapped all night (was at 10% when we left, but she made it)
Today in company IT meeting with 80+ people, damm thing IPL'ed into Bootstrap Recovery mode. 10 minutes to get out of Otterbox with no tools so I could pull battery out. Then when I put it back in, it got so hott I pulled the battery again. It was so hott i juggled like hot potato which brought unwanted attention.
Again, I'm going back to Sprint Stock.

I've been running rooted stock since I got my phone. and have had none of those problems.
Yes - if you're having those issues, you should go back to stock.
Either your phone is defective or you have done something to it that is creating conflict. I have had the Photon since day 1 release, stock rooted, and nothing even close to that has ever happened to me. Phone is responsive as well and never gotten that hot.

I got it 9:00AM August 2nd. It could be (and likely is) conflict, which is why I'm going back to bare stock. Although it has many features and app's, at the end of the day, I'm on call and need a phone.
As for getting hot, I have no freaking clue what that was about. When I had my Evo, tethering made it get warm. This was actually HOT and I dropped 50% on battery in a matter of minutes? I seriously pulled the battery and sat everything on the floor!

Going to try Sprint Stock first. Additionally, going to cut off the "Auto Update" in all my app's that way I know what to delete and when! Besides, I normally do 300Mb to 700Mb of data a month. Last month I did 2Gb (1.9Gb but who is counting!). and I use Pandora on WiFi!

I've been through the same issues, (among other crazy issues such as random reboots, deep sleep (still), and more.
My cam takes years to work... I get very embarrassed when this stuff happens. Like for example, I had to make a call for a friend, I go to the dialer, dial the number, and press the call button, then my phone reboots immediately, and we all know how long it takes to reboot.

I wouldnt put apps on the SD card. I had problems with things disappearing and stuff when I tried it.
OK boys and girls, first I dumped all my photos off the phone. I then formatted the SDCard, I then erased internal storage with took me 2.5 hours before I pulled the battery. I then did internal storage again and it took 3 minutes.
Now here is the odd thing.........I really, technically, did not lose squat. All of my apps were still there, just not installed. My e-mail, contacts, etc. all remained. Even my Bluetooth stayed paired. The only thing I did was turn on wireless, go to Andriod Market, and go thru 128 Apps and put them back (no, I did not want to use the restore of Titanium Backup. That would put the curroupt crap back)
And this is the REAL killer, I went to bed at 10:30PM with Photon un-plugged with BT and WiFi on. I woke up to 80% charge!!! something was definately wrong before and I think me moving apps to card was it!!
Anyway, so far so good!!

[Q] ATT HTC One X Plus Boot Loop- Please Help

Hello Everyone,
I am very new to this and I do not know a lot of terminology of developers so it is quiet hard for me to figure this out on my own.
I got HTC One X Plus in May and I did not root it or anything, just used it normally. I think I made a mistake of not charging it for 24 hours the first time, because my battery drains very quickly, even when I don't play games or use 4G. Yesterday when my battery level was very low, the phone shut off, and turned back on again, but didn't get past the HTC Logo, and a few seconds later it shut off. And since then its been doing just that. I'm suspecting that the battery cannot charge or something, because I tried a hard reset and reboot, recovery, factory reset and everything. I did notice that when I got to the screen with three Androids, a message, that said "battery too low to flash". Now, I know there are lots of posts about this, but they're all about rooted phones or custom ROMS, and I honestly don't understand what they're talking about. I have almost two years with this phone and I can't afford a new one and even though Im still under warranty I can't send it back, because I have a small crack in the glass(not the screen) and apparently ATT warranty will charge you $500 for physical damage. Please help, if you can.

LG G5 - Any Boot Looping Issues?

Hello,
I have a question about this, I had an LG G4 that had the Boot Loop error which occurred in the last week of January, long story short, has anyone had these problems with this new model? I know they' must have fixed this, but the biggest reason I'm asking this is the LG G5 Unlocked RS988 that is being sold here on Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/LG-Unlocked-P...keywords=g5&qid=1463100037&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
So far has had a couple of reviews and two people have complained about the boot looping issue, I'm not sure if they're trolling or what, but I figured I'd speak to owners thus far since it's been over a month since it's been released. Really considering this as well as the HTC 10 and S7 Edge as my next device, thanks guys.
no troll.
I bought mine April 1st (Sprint LS992) and it started boot looping a few days ago and finally died completely. I sent it off to LG yesterday to be fixed.

I wish. they gave me "about 8-9 days" turn-around so good thing my rooted G3 is still working.
I actually really like my G5. It doesn't appear to be running much bloat and pretty much everything can be disabled through the OS so even though I havent been able to root it I haven't missed it much now that there's a new ad blocker that creates a local vpn for filtering. I like the screen size more than the G3. Only reason I got it was the screen on my G3 cracked somehow (although the glass screen protector over it did not ). The G5 screen is REALLY easy to replace and I liked that too...although it looks like now, you can buy a new G3 screen already installed in a new frame so all you have to do is move the electronics to a new phone body which you can buy on Amazon for about $60... I like both phones but if the screen on my G3 didn't crack (and the G3 is rootable) I probably wouldn't have bothered with a G5.

Nope. Not even warm. Just hung and started rebooting. Then kept hanging in different stages of rebooting - sometimes it would come all the way up into home screen, other times it would get to asking me for my password during boot, and sometimes it would hang on the Sprint logo. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. First time it happened after 6 or 7 reboots it just finished booting and worked normally after. Several hours later same exact behavior except this time the last time screen went dark as if it was starting another reboot and never came back. Tried pulling battery, pulling sim card/SD card, and even the spare battery that was fully charged - no signs of life since.
LG got it today so we'll see.

Your experience mirrors mine. I had this happen to me last night in exactly the same way. I've opened a case with AT&T and they're sending me a warranty replacement.

Wow, a lot of people now are starting to show up about this, I saw two posts this morning it makes me hesitant to pick this up now.
I'm starting to wonder if this boot looping issue could be associated with LG's software?

I'm currently under the impression that this is a hardware issue. I've never had a software problem cause my phone to become completely unresponsive like this. It doesn't even react to being plugged in to charge (no charging LED comes on, display stays completely off).

The thing is, this happened on the G3 (not much) the G4 (Prominently) and now on the G5. I can't see it being a hardware issue since all of these phones from a hardware perspective are all different from one another. I'm just wondering if it's some type of glitch in LG's UI or something. If it is hardware related maybe it's related to cooling? It's tough to say for sure, until someone really investigates this.
And yet this is hardly a widespread issue, and only seems to affect the US variants

These phones are much more similar in hardware than they are in software. In fact, if you google around a bit about the G4 bootloop issue, you'll find that LG admitted it was a hardware fault with the phone that caused it (I would link directly, but I don't have a high enough post count).
If my phone had any sign of life, I would potentially agree with you, but UI glitches don't hard brick phones.
My wife had an LG G5 and she updated about 22 apps from the Play Store and after the fact the phone kept rebooting. They said they would send another one brand new to replace it.
I spoke with LG and they said that in their opinion one of those apps may have been corrupt and cost the phone to get you in to reboot however I did a factory reset and the issue still prevailed. So we just sent it back to T-Mobile and they sent her a brand new one since it was still within the return policy.
Other than that issue we both have brand new LG G5 that have had nothing but a great experience with these phones.

Oh trust me, I know about LG admitting those faults. I got royally screwed with my unlocked H815 which LG wouldn't honor since it was an international variant (Hence why I was looking at the LG G5 RS988). I didn't care that much because I realized I took a risk with the H815 and well, that's life you can't always win. I mean I did notice pretty crazy overheating prior to the phone Boot Looping but if this is happening within the first month is concerning.
@igotroot a corrupt app was what I originally thought as well, but I had only big name or well known apps. Glad to hear overall you're enjoying it, this is a great device.

I wish. they gave me "about 8-9 days" turn-around so good thing my rooted G3 is still working.

I had the same issue with Sprint LG G5. I bought it in April 13 the from Best Buy. It started to reboot 3 times at first and got real hot before it started rebooting. I took it to Sprint repair center where they suggested to do a factory reset. I told them I can do that. But before I was able to do a factory reset, it finally died. Sprint didn't want to replace the phone since I didn't have insurance. I might have to send it to LG for warranty repair which will take 9 business days. Do not buy the LG G5..
I had the same problem on my H850 (International Version), he went into service after sale yesterday.
Wow. After my G4 issues, I vowed never to go back to LG but with HTC taking their sweet time for a full release of the 10 and not wanting the GS7 (I don't like AMOLED and I've heard horror stories of random camera glass breakage and general fragileness of the glass phone) I thought I'd contemplate a G5. Completely out of the question now.
I'll wait a bit longer for the HTC 10.

I love my G5 and have no issues with it. It's the fastest phone I've ever used, the camera is awesome, and a removable battery and SD are a must for me. This phone has so far been a very quick and reliable phone.
And the reason I got it was because I could not stand my G4 and all the problems that thing had.
H850... Absolutely zero problems. Amazing phone but I will admit, that based on XDA reports, there have been a lot of variance in build quality amongst US carrier builds in particular...

BOOT LOOP

My V10 went into a bootloop back in November and I was fortunate enough to get it replaced days before the 1 warranty expired. Yesterday, my wife's V10 also suffered the same failure. Unfortunately, no insurance and Verizon still insists that they don't know anything about the hardware fault that's causing these phones to bootloop. I can cough up my failure to just bad luck, but both phones failing for the same thing has nothing to do with luck.
If anyone knows of a class action suit being filed against LG, I would be interested in signing up.
Last LG product I'll ever purchase.
lawsuit
I'd be surprised if there wasn't one. The same thing happened to my G4.
I'm pretty sure there is one...Google it
I've seen the articles of an active lawsuit against them, but there's no information on how to join. Usually, the attorneys will get companies to release the information of customers who may have been affected so that they can be contacted to join or opt out. Either way, I will send them an email and see if I get a response..
My phone just got the bootloop yesterday and I was able to get Verizon to agree to send a replacement for me even though I am well out of warranty. The person I spoke with on chat said she researched it and said it was a known issue so they could cover it. So my replacement phone comes tomorrow. Now I am just trying to get it to boot long enough for me to back up whatever I can.

You faired far better than me. They told me they didn't know anything about the issue (however they knew about it back in November when my phone died a few days before it's one year anniversary) when I called about my wife's phone suffering the same fate.
I did call LG and they are definitely aware of the issue as they extended the warranty of the phone by an additional 6 months.
Verizon should still address this issue with its customers rather than brush it off as just another defective device out if warranty.
I think there is one right now.. Not sure how to find it.. I notice most of the people experiencing bootloop ignored fixing the overheating, which almost all of them do out the box.. Mine did and I stopped the overheating right away simply by enabling developer option and turning off all window animations.. Don't know what that is but since them my v10 stays cold to the touch for basic daily use.. Even when watching videos.. I haven't tried gaming but I plan to.. You might want to do it to the one you just fixed.. By default it's on " x1."

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. My wife isn't a very heavy user, so don't know how the phone overheated that much to cause the hardware issue.
Received notification that LG repaired the phone by replacing the main board. They determined the fault to be "phone not charging". What a crock of ****. That was not even a problem.
Meanwhile, I'm 2 days in still waiting for a response to my email from the firm that is already suing them.

I bought my V10 day 1 (10/30/'15) and it bootlooped like a week ago. Sent it in and just got the email saying it wasn't charging through the port. Right... 20 months in and they're still replacing boards "under warranty" though so I'm not mad lol

Nice to know it wasn't just me they used that excuse with, guess they don't want the real reason of shoddy hardware being a liability in court.
My V10 replacement from Nov 2016 now exhibits WiFi disconnection issues. Wife's V10 has no such problems. Hopefully I can get to November before the phone totally faults out again.
I was looking forward to the Pixel 2 but I heard it's going to be a LG manufactured phone. Ugh, that's sad news as I won't even consider it.
Agreed, I definitely won't be one of the early buyers for a pixel 2. Bought a Note 4 off ebay, gonna roll with that and my newly repaired V10 as a backup until one of these manufacturers makes a modern phone with all the features I want. V20 would've been it but I'm not about to have one of those bootloop on me as well.. See what the V30 brings I guess
Just a little update from getting my main board replaced. Got it back yesterday after missing FedEx the day before and the sim no longer worked, but they left my glass screen protector on which I wasn't expecting. It had been updated from 25A (I was holding out for mm root..) to 28A. Everything seems to work but it is no longer going to be my dd. If something happens to my note I'll activate it but it's on zerolemon-mp3 player duty for now. Still love the idea of the V10...
Thanks for the update. They had removed the screen protector on my phone when I got it back. But so far phone is running ok. It did shut down on its own from getting too hot a couple of days ago. I was taking pictures and leaving the photo camera on when it did it.
