I want to be able to use my LG V30+ (T-Mobile version) on both T-Mobile as well at AT&T (personal account and work account, so I swap SIMs as needed). However the services that will do this seem very suspect, and price is $6 to $150. I assume this phone uses the T-Mobile unlock app (I haven't opened yet, in case I decide to return it and eat $50). Is this doable, and any suggestions on who?
Thanks...
If you pay off the phone T-Mobile will unlock it for you.
Or find out who unlocked this guy's T-Mobile phone:

Thanks - I know my inquiry sounds "suspect" - but I'm a longtime loyal T-Mobile customer who took advantage of the BYGO current offer. Paying off isn't realistic, as in theory I believe it requires me to pay off 2 phones, and then get paid back for one over 24 months - which is a crazy proposition! If that's my pay-off option, I'll just return the phones and eat the $100 restocking. I would just like one unlocked to I can switch between my personal and work account.

Well, ask that guy. He seems to have bought two and unlocked them to work on AT&T. Find out how he did it.

I used the unlock app on the phone and it works instantly, but phones were paid in full. Did the BOGO a few months ago, ended up switching to unlimited at the end of January and paid the remainder of the phones off.

I think they were sending out a cash card for the free phone then - so one could use that to pay off a phone immediately. Now it's 24 monthly credits.

Yes. T-Mobile's BOGO deal last year was one where they sent a prepaid Mastercard after 6-8 weeks, when you bought two V30s (or V30+) on installment plan. If you timed it right, LG had a $400 rebate going at the same time, which was stackable with the T-Mo BOGO.
For my part, I paid off both phones when I received the BOGO Mastercard, then unlocked using the T-Mobile Unlock app. A painless process -- and free. As I understand the phones must be on T-Mobiles network for at least 40 days, and the account still open, in order to be eligible for unlock. Needless to say, the phones must be paid off.
While I did indeed receive both a $800 rebate from T-Mo and $400 from LG, I screwed up by waiting a few days after unlocking before porting out the numbers, so that my T-Mo plan rolled a few days into its 3rd month. I was certain they would prorate that month, but I never received a final bill, they just charged me a full month. So I wasted $100 paying for my new service (AT&T MVNO) while T-Mo's meter kept running on a closed account. My mistake, of course, for not reading their fine print.
My main reason for changing network is T-Mo's lack of reception in our home. I like the company and would have gone to T-Mo prepaid or MVNO if coverage had worked. Maybe I'll come back to T-MO when Band 71 gets rolled out in a couple years -- although right now I am still steaming about them not prorating my last month.

so you're just ignoring the answer on September 1?
No one can tell you the answers to your questions.
Why not buy a phone that can be unlocked for free? Like any of the other North America variants? With those you just convert to carrier unlocked US998.
ALSO you can buy mint North America variants guaranteed to be clean for just over $300. No need to worry about blacklist or paying for SIM card unlock. I know Europe doesn't care about U.S. blacklist. Just saying you seem to be going to a lot of trouble to get this phone, and it makes no sense.
If you live in Europe, you don't need U.S. T-MOBILE phone.

Tell me why you need a U.S. T-Mobile phone in Europe. There's free SIM card unlock for any other North America variants and some don't even need SIM card unlock, they're already unlocked.
You're buying one that needs it and the one that is hardest. There's examples in this form that even T-Mobile sometimes can't SIM card unlock their own phones.
but if you absolutely want it no matter what look at the post from September 1st.

But now you have to factor in unlock fee, IF it works.
For $261 Euros (US $305) you could have gotten mint US998 already unlocked.
Good luck.
There's no free unlock for T-Mobile. You can't convert to another variant which is carrier unlocked.

So hi guys, I'm brand new here and don't know anything with new techs so I hope tht someone can help me out with this.
I just bought a V30+ this morning, and the IMEI is : 358166081226505, LG-H933 and S/N is 709KPPB0008640,.
I don't know how to check if this phone is legit or not and I don't even know which carrier it's belong to, because I bought it from a supplier who brought it from abroad ( I'm from Vietnam ). So can anyone help me to track where is it from ?, and is it legit or not ?
Besides, It's work complete ly fine with my local Vietnam's SIM card so I don't even know if it's unlocked or not, but when I tried to manual update the phone said that : " Device is not registered". I've tried googled up many method but nothing worked, including factory reset... Any help on this guys ?

You have Canadian V30, if H933. All the carriers in Canada use the same model. Software loads depending on Canadian SIM card used.
ARE YOU SURE IT'S H933?
They don't have V30+.
It's either not H933 or is not V30+, just V30. Which is it?

It's not possible to have V30 plus H933. The H933 is the V30. Maybe is counterfeit or an refurbished phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/software-update-phone-registered-to-t3723704
I think same situation with mine.
Long story short,
The phone should be on the provided carrier at least once.
If not, it happens.
only way to fix is inserting active sim for original carrier, in this case you should go to Canada.
or, find H933 KDZ files and manually update it. you can find how to do from https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/us998-lg-v30-market-us998-t3736910.
but DON'T USE US998 KDZ! you have to find H933 KDZ.

Well, not quite the same as yours. He has a phone that doesn't officially exist. An H933 V30+.
H933 is "Canada", but they have no V30+ -- only V30.
I'm in Canada and I have a H933 and its 64GB V30. All the new phones sold in Canada are carrier unlocked due to bew laws that is why it is working with your carrier.
You mentioned buying it off some supplier, the only thing I can think of would be that you got a refurbished unit. I don't even know if swapping a 64GB storage on V30 (H933) with a 128GB unit would work (since the OS and everything should be on that storage chip) but that is the only thing I can think off to explain the situation. Plus, a back panel saying V30+ with a H933 brand kind of suggests a refurbished unit since V30+ is not sold is not available in Canada.
Return the unit and get your money back!

Actually, the V30+is just a V30 with 128gigs of storage and a decent pair of earbuds. The "+" is just marketing. H933 is the Canadian V30. Carries or retailers may sell it as a "Plus" but it will have the same model number.

It's either not an H933, or it's not a real V30+.
Which means someone took a H933 V30, swapped out the internal 64GB storage for 128GB AND put on a V30+ back panel. A Frankenstein phone. DING. DING. DING.
He bought that "Canadian" phone in ASIA, so who knows how it got that way...

The 128GB version was never offered by any carriers in Canada. I am not sure if LG Canada actually sold them directly though.
The H933 is carrier unlocked out of the box. Have you tried another SIM card just to test it, even if the SIM isn't activated? If the SIM you are trying to use activated? Stolen phones are blacklisted in a database that spans most of the US and Canadian carriers in order to combat phone theft. Have you contacted your carrier to verify the IMEI and serial number is not stolen? I highly recommend removing your devices serial number and IMEI as well from your post.
Edit: There is one other thing you can try that might help. Go to the LG Dialer and put in *#546368#*933#. This should open up to a group of 4 menus. If it doesn't, it isn't an H933. If it does, go to Field Test, Modem Settings, and LTE-A CA setting. In here, you want to select the top option, which is, CA Enable/ SupportedBandCom.. (All Enable). You will need to reboot the device for this to take effect. When it boots, you will see an unlatched lock with a blue thing moving around it in a circle. This should disable carrier aggregation and allow the phone to search all bands it supports for service.

There's nothing wrong with your phone.
This has been thoroughly discussed in the US998 Pie KDZ thread. And digging up a 1.5 year old thread which has nothing to do with Pie is ridiculous.
Go back to the US998 KDZ PIE thread and READ the workaround Installation methods. There's THREE of them.

Yeah, there's three workarounds. If none work -- and you have NOT tried them all yet -- you have to wait for another KDZ.
Read bottom of screenshot, which you should have read earlier. There's no other answers.

Yeah that what they said because I tried lgup Dev patch with other kdz nougat and Oreo it work fine only the pie giving me issues so I was told to wait for another kdz and even the pie is not stable and lags so I guess that why it not working for all except unlocked ur bootloader then flash TWRP then flash the TWRP us99830b that works for everyone but in my case don't want to unlock the phone now I just want it to be stock always since it aosp base and like the customization of lg with many features so there is .of point using custom roms I use custom roms on my mi 6x so I get pretty much tired because of battery life and heating issue so I prefer stock it fine ? and I love aod too ??
So, fun story! I bricked my AT&T V20! It got really hot during use, so i shut it off to cool off, went to turn it back on, and its "stuck" in some menu with an hourglass logo, that i cant really see because part of the screen is covered in static, cant even boot into recovery. So, i went to insurance, and theyre sending me an AT&T v30 as a replacement.
On to my questions;
What are some MUST KNOW tips that i should be aware of?
Where are we at with root?
Bootloader unlocked yet?
Any rom's you recommend?

Yes, open market LG US998, sold by authorized retailers like B&H Photo.
Be careful buying of eBay, as the U.S.Cellular model US998 is otherwise identical to the open market LG US998 but is not eligible for bootloader unlock.

I answered your original question, I thought... I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking. You need an open market US998 V30 to run the US998 WETA ROM.
Are you asking if the WETA US998 ROM will work with other LG V30, besides the open market US998?
The dev @Mentalmuso was trying to make WETA US998 ROM work with the H930 V30/V930G (the other two in the series that have bootloader unlock with fastboot flash commands available), but he stopped because @Whiskeyomega Boombox ROM came back. They share a lot of the same audio mods.

At least one person with an LG H930 got WETA to boot, but the dev was doing things blind for the European models because he has US998.

Oh, "it got really hot during use" invisibly included the reason it got hot as the environment. Silly me.
Unless an engineering abl (the new SD835 encrypted aboot) leaks specifically for the AT&T model V30, then you will never have root.
Unlike the V20, where all the models (except the T-Mobile H918) had the same RSA key in the CPU, on the V30, the key is different for every model I checked.
Even if a kernel exploit or some other temp root could be obtained, you have no way to flash TWRP, or permanent root, since neither recovery, boot or system can be modified.

People buy carrier locked down Sprint LS998 to quickly convert to carrier unlocked US998 model. They don't buy it to keep it as LS998.

Sorry, but I'm a total noob on this. Is the conversion process too difficult or requires any skill?
I just bought one of these. If they are selling it as a US998 why would I need to convert it to US998? I am guessing these are the instructions I will need to follow...

Sorry, it's the same seller (yywireless) who does the LS998, so I thought it was still LS998. He/they sold a ton of LS998 V30+!
Maybe they're already converting them now before shipping? Unless they are original US998. I don't know.
But a bunch of us bought the mint V30+ LS998 back in June from this same seller. Right before Father's Day, eBay had a one day 20% of everything sale and a bunch of us snagged that phone + 20% off, so very good deal!
Here's the same seller with MINT LS998 V30+ for $320.

No, takes 10 minutes. That's what the Frankenstein thread is all about, converting one V30 to another -- usually LS998 to US998 for bootloader unlock and root. But also other North America variants to other North America variants...

Yeah I bought a 9/10 i think, but it had a kinda noticeable scratch on the screen but with the ebay 20% off early June it was $260... So I said oh well and kept it as an unlocked converted phone...
Bought a "mint" LS998 from the same ebay seller in late June. Mine had a very small scratch on the back. Checked the IMEI number and it was made in April. Of Course it is converted to an US998

Wow! I didnt know this was possible! When you covert a Sprint V30 to US998, does the phone have all the functionality (i.e., bands) of the US factory unlocked model? Any trade-offs? I'm on T-Mobile btw.

Yes, it becomes a US998. I've personally converted two LS998 myself. Others have done AT&T H931 to US998, etc.

It becomes full US998. I don't know how to answer any differently. It even has the US998 fastboot flash commands.
I'm not going to detail all the specs of US998 found on any website.
You're asking about something we've been doing for months now.
Go to the Frankenstein thread. I wrote the guide.

Well now I am just a little more excited and a little disappointed at the same time. I actually paid ten dollars more for the 9/10 US998. If I would have known what I know now but oh well. I will keep my fingers crossed I do not have any scratches on the screen.
This is the one I bought;

That's the WTF bootloader unlock and root instructions, and Frankenstein method is mentioned in there, so some variants can get the necessary fastboot flash commands.
But the Frankenstein thread is separate thread that was created prior to the Oreo bootloader unlock exploit being discovered.

I'm a Sprint user and I originally got the US998 from this seller and it was impossible to activate it on Sprint so I sent it back and got a refund and got the LS998 instead. Great condition and working great!
I was on T-Mobile for years but I could save a lot if I became the 4th phone on a shared unlimited plan on AT&T. So I bought a US998 and I brought it to AT&T to add a line on a bring my own device offer. They have an optional $4/month service which is essentially greatly extended caller ID and it identifies "likely scams" among other things like mobile user caller ID and identifies a lot of things that regular caller ID doesn’t. I had it on T-Mo until earlier today. It, however, requires that the phone be accepted for "HD Voice" which the V30 is but not on AT&T if the IMEI isn’t on "their" list of their phones. It isn’t a matter of the phone having the US998 firmware but that the IMEI doesn’t match. If I understand things correctly, and I don’t know that I do, then even if I bought an H931 from an eBay seller, I'd be unable to activate it with full functionality.
If I'm wrong, then I could return the US998 and buy an H931 and flash it to a us998 and give up some memory (the US998 is a V30+) and some cheap headphones and get the missing features. Or I could go back to T-Mo and spend another $30 a month. Or I could give up the caller ID, Wi-Fi calling, HD voice and a few lesser features.
I found an email form an AT&T rep, back in 2016, saying that they were working on adding all features for users of phones brought to AT&T and that they were working on it. I don’t remember if they implied it was at great urgency. When I was at the store, the people there spent over a half hour trying to activate the service and they couldn’t figure it out. Of course, they merely tried the same failing things over and over and never tried other things like maybe calling AT&T support, or looking it up or even asking people who might have known. When I called and got as supervisor, I was told it didn’t work because it was the policy of AT&T to not offer the services on BYOD phones.
Anyone know anything here? I'd prefer info trhat;'d help me get my6 phone on AT&T wiht the features but I'd settle for knowing tghat it';s not goping to work.

No, you don't quite understand correctly. They are pressing you to have an AT&T-branded phone, not specifically a phone they personally sell to you. You could buy an H931 off eBay and it would have the IMEI they SAY they are looking for.
Having said that you admit they didn't call AT&T tech support. I would call AT&T tech support myself or go to another AT&T store. If they still say no, then buy an H931 off eBay...
Also, what happens when you flash the H931 TWRP-flashable zip to your US998? That doesn't allow the AT&T features?
from, what I understand, it comes down to provisioning and they describe the process as one with no discretionary range at all. The only issue is whether the IMEI is in the list that can be so provisioned. Whether it is owning a H931 or a phone of their supply is unknown but they do insist it is the latter. I compare it to the issues some people report trying to unlock a phone they say is paid for and others say it is not. The idea being that there is a somewhat fluid master list somewhere and they are saying there is a list of H931s meant for sale by AT&T agents.
I don't believe it either but it appears to be a road block.
So now do I try to return the US998 because I had activation issues with it? On a fairness level, it's not the fault of the eBay reseller who sold me the phone he said he would, and by all accounts, in good working order.
So what would you do, if you accepted my position that I need these features that seem to require an IMEI that AT&T is willing to provision with HD Voice, and the resulting capabilities which only follow on a phone provisioned for HD Voice so I could subscribe for the $4/.month caller ID service. I’d hate to pay another $300 to buy a H931 to find that the problem still exists or that I now have 2 phones when I need one.

I'm going to leave that decision to you.
My sister and brother-in-law both have LS998 V30+ (off eBay) converted to US998 V30+ and they're both on post paid AT&T. He's a successful tech salesperson and they live in a million dollar house.
Another friend of mine (very tech oriented) has postpaid AT&T on native US998 V30 (B&H Photo) and works for a world wide news organization.
I don't know whether they have HD Voice, WiFi calling on their US998 -- but they have never complained about not having it...
They all got this phone on my recommendation, and are using it on postpaid AT&T.
____
My wife and I, my mother and two other friends have either native or converted US998 on Prepaid AT&T. I do not have those features, but I like having the lower price of AT&T Prepaid with the speed of postpaid AT&T included vs the lag of AT&T MVNOs.
____
But you know your needs better than me. I would just try with another store or AT&T technical support before giving up. If you do return the US998 you can bootloader unlock and root H931. I would activate first to get everything done, before following the WTF instructions.

I just spoke to a so-called supervisor who tells me that the issue is one of supported devices on the BYOD plan. they say that while the H931 as sold by AT&T is a supported device, an h931 not sold by AT&T is somehow fundamentally different and it appears to them as having a different "image" (a term not explained or otherwise defined) and so there is no way that a non AT&T H931 will ever appear on their system, as one of theirs. As not one theirs, they refuse the range of services that include "HD Voice, Wi-Fi calling and enhanced caller ID and a security feature that I don’t know the name of.
They insist that this "image" issue is really true and that anyone with an AT&T supplied H931 and a non-AT&T H931 appear as different devices on their system.
They proposed creating an escalation ticket so that the "back office department" can look to see if there is anything that they can do. They say as things are currently set up there is no option anywhere to authorize a non-AT&T phone but maybe the back-office folks can do it, I’m promised a callback in 24 hours and he is improbably making positive sounding noises. As so much of this makes no sense, I don’t expect qi positive result, but I will give them 24 hours
I'm not casting aspersions on any user of AT&T's postpaid or pre-paid system but I can say that I ne3edc Wi-Fi calling for reception where I work and I want the caller IDF service and have come to want it in the 4 years I’ve been on T-Mobile who offers the same product.
Please don’t think that I'm critiquing anyone who is using any carrier's system to their satisfaction. I'm just saying that I would be significantly troubled by not having Wi-Fi calling as I live and work in areas where there is no calling except once inside buildings and connected to their Wi-Fi LAN. And for whatever reason, I'm being excluded on grounds that seem suspicions.

This T-Mobile ROM port for US998 won't give you LTE band 71, but probably everything else:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/rom-lg-v30-t-mobile-stock-rom-20s-t3925486
is there any way to get band 71, and wifi calling on a us998?
I just went to a t-mo store with the us998 rom and put a t-mo sim in it and the hd voice calling worked fine although I didn't try Wi-Fi calling yet. But where I live I think b71 would make a huge difference. In any case I want a chance to find out if this is true. This is probably the main reason I bought the V30: my V20 doesn’t even have B71 and I have no reception in way too many places where t-mo says there is coverage. They also imply that most new build out is with b71, and they further imply that all else equal, ,b71 works better as if it's just magic. It seems at last worth checking out if there's a chance. I see some roms change the modems and some do not. Is it likely that that roms that don’t change the modem will not change the lack of b71 so I'd need a rom that includes an h932 modem to even have a chance of b71 working?
Thanks agian for all yuor help.

That was also in September 2017 before the OFFICIAL carrier unlocked (Open Market) US998 V30/V30+ was released. We were hoping the upcoming "official" carrier unlocked US998 (sold by authorized 3rd party retailers like B&H Photo) would ALSO have the new U.S. T-Mobile LTE band 71 -- and one part of T-Mobile SEEMED to be hinting it would... That you could buy EITHER H932 OR the "official" carrier unlocked US998 and have all the T-Mobile bands. These official carrier unlocked phones are called "Open Market" phones by LG; these are the phones that LG usually lists in their LG Bootloader Unlock code eligible list.
Thus the thread I started, and subsequent XDA NEWS article. That turned out to NOT be true. The tweets we misleading.
Even so, we also hoped with root on the "Open Market" US998 we could activate the hidden T-Mobile network menus we could clearly see. THAT is also discussed in the thread.
Yet in all the time since then, no one has had any luck getting T-Mobile LTE band 71 working on any phone except U.S. T-Mobile H932.
@runningnak3d, the dev who ROOTED the T-Mobile H932 currently uses a US998 on T-Mobile. If anyone could get LTE band 71 on T-Mobile with US998, it would be him. . He hasn't, and he says LTE band 71 is not that important for him.
______
We also found out the the only difference between the "Open Market" official carrier unlocked US998 V30 (64GB) sold by B&H Photo and the US998 V30 (64 GB) sold by U.S. Cellular is the B&H Photo V30 was secretly eligible for LG bootloader unlock code. One of my V30 used official LG bootloader unlock code, but we had to hack the LG dropdown menu on the LG Dev website to enter the information. LG has NEVER officially announced the Open Market US998 V30 is eligible for bootloader unlock code. That trick/hack does NOT work for the Open Market US998 V30+. So, only one of my phones was bootloader unlocked using that method.
However there was NO DIFFERENCE between the various US998 V30+ (128GB) sold by the any entities. NO US998 V30+ is eligible for LG bootloader unlock code, and ALL US998 V30/V30+ are actually carrier unlocked -- even those sold by U.S. Cellular.
LG was not forthcoming with any of this information. We had to figure it out by ourselves, through trial and error.
With WTF exploit, we are not dependent on LG for bootloader unlock code. But that developments did not happen until May 2018. My US998 V30+ was not bootloader unlocked and rooted until then.

Of course I know it was you. that's why I'm asking you follow up questions.
I'm seeing comments along two theories and I dont i know which is more likely true. Theory one is that the 835 chips come in two types, ones that have band 71 capabilities and those tht dont, or the other theory which is that there are software modems thaat compensate for the lack of included band 71 modems, and where a certain software modem could add the capbility. In effect, some say that the US998 can never get band 71 and others say for example, that if you knew what you were doing wiht the Shortcut Master you could add the band, or alternatively, you could flash the correct rom or modem.
And so I start doing my homework and sure enough, you show up as one of the few that know anything about it.
I have no idea but I keep being told that things arent going to go the way I want them to. I'm hoping that I can get band 71 using this phone because I just bought this phone and I need or think I need band 71. It is why I bougnt this phone.
How do things look for me getting band 71? My clever plan to go to AT&T failed rather dramatically by my standards, even if you think I should be fine without the functions that so many people don't care about. Out in the boonies, T-Mpo is putting most of their efforts into band 71 and I spent a lot of time driving where there is no reception and I'm told there'd be a lot more if I could get that band. that's mainly why I bought the new phone as the V20 still works about the same, not getting band 71 every day.
I'm trying to learn about this phone after 2+ years with the H918 but I'll never pick up what you know any time soon, so I'm asking you.

Bob, if you knew I wrote it and had already read the thread -- then why did you bring it up? If you read the thread you know it's not possible, as far as we know. I spent a lot of time trying to explain all that in my post and you already knew it. I didn't know how up to speed you were. If you had said, "I read this article, I read the whole thread, is there anything new, yes or no?" I would have simply said no, nothing new. Move on.
You are making my head hurt.
Here are your choices:
Go buy a new AT&T H931 from AT&T.
Go buy a mint AT&T H931 off Swappa you KNOW was bought from AT&T. Swappa instead of eBay this time because they check IMEI, etc before letting it be sold. Having been bought from AT&T rather than leftover stock from some warehouse, it SHOULD be in the AT&T system as eligible for all the stuff you want. If you are uncertain, then go buy straight from AT&T.
Go buy a T-mobile H931 if you want to stay with T-mobile and get LTE band 71.
no, I didnt understand and now I do
thanks. i thought it was supposed to be possible.
so my best bet is to get a 931 so I can pay less.

This tweet from T-mobile was what got our hopes up. The "unlocked" was the US998.

yes, and stuff like that make my head explode and made me think that there was some way.
So now I have to see if I can return this ebay phone that I've rooted and go buy something else.
I can go to your page at https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/us998-lg-v30-market-us998-t3736910
do you know which of the trwo (10c or 10d) is the 7.1.2 my phone came with?
