Fast Charging issue - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

I have noticed that fast Charging does not always happen even with the stock charger. However, if I reboot then fast charging kicks in. Is this a known issue?

No, I always have fast charging. Maybe you need to return your tab for warranty.

I have this problem as a result of getting something in the charging port, or inside the USBC cable itself. All resulting in a moisture detected error. Powering down the tablet, plugging it in and allowing the charge indicator to come on would resolve the issue, but every time I unplug the tablet I would get the error again. I followed instructions on XDA regarding USB C fast charging problems and it seemed to fix the error. I think there's still something in the cable itself because the whole problem has expressed twice now. But in the interim comma over a few days if I plug the charger in one way I would get a slow charge warning that I wasn't using the original charger. But it's the charger that came in the Box. If I unplugged it, turned the charger around and plugged it in the other way it would fast charge again. So I'm guessing there's some kind of material in the charger itself that I can't get to that's affecting how many contacts are being made. I'm still working to resolve the issue with the original charger, but I'm thinking about just getting another USB C cable. I need a longer one than ships with the tablet in the first place.
When I went to chat with customer service, they wanted me to send it in under warranty. But I really didn't want to do without the tablet for 2 weeks or more, so researching it online has solved the issue somewhat. I might take it in to a Samsung kiosk and just see if they'll try to fix it with air duster.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II AT&T i777 had charging problems, now won't turn on

Hi all,
I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 2 (i777). It was rooted and running CM 10.1. A few months ago it started to have charging/USB port issues. Some of the symptoms:
-Sporadic charging (starting and stopping)
-Required USB jiggling to get it to start charging
-Sometimes wouldn't charge at all until it died, then would eventually charge while powered off
-Would not shutdown (only reboot, even if the battery was removed)
-Randomly started "car mode"
My initial thoughts on this were USB port issues. After doing some research on people with similar problems, I tried cleaning the port with alcohol, toothbrush, compressed air, etc. No avail.
Eventually the phone just stopped charging altogether. At this point, if I left it plugged in, it would sit in a continuous boot loop (boot, get to lock screen, realize it has no juice, shutdown, rinse, repeat). After a few days of attempting to charge and just having that happen, it went black and has never turned on since.
To try to solve that, I bought a new USB port flex cable on eBay and replaced it, assuming this would solve all my USB port issues. I tried to be as ESD safe as possible and also not break anything in the phone, but after replacing the board, it still wouldn't boot.
Next step- bought a new battery with an external charger to skip the USB port altogether and see if the battery was shot. Charged up the new battery, popped it in, nothing.
I'm at a total loss. If it started as a charging problem, I don't see how the problem could have been anywhere but the flex cable board or the battery. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going wrong? I would REALLY appreciate some insight.
Thanks!
Maybe the repeated loops damage it

Did you ever find a solution? I'm in the no charge boot loop after letting it die last night.
I have not seen previous usb problems at all. I suspect that my battery got over-drained, but then I've got the same symptoms as you and you have a new battery. I can get it into recovery but t won't stay on in CWM for long enough to fix permissions, which is the only thing I've tried so far in CWM.
Thanks
If i was in your place i'd have taken it to the nearest Samsung Service center and let them fix it for me.
I think the fluctuation in power may have damaged your phone battery point from where it takes power from the battery and charge it.
Maybe it has damaged the motherboard.
We cannot say anything in this situation.
You should just take it to your nearest service center.
Best of Luck
OK, wiping Data fixed it.
Thanks for your reply. This problem just started this morning with no previous issues, doing the looping part of your problem that I quoted. so it's not a question of what I might have done.
But, for others encountering my part of it, here's what I've done and learned so far today.
As I looked into things elsewhere on the , it seemed to be a software problem. Luckily, I have another Galaxy (Exhibit) that's similar battery and I was able to put the charged battery from it into the SII. The SII booted and worked fine but did not charge. I put the SII battery into the Exhibit (sorta fits). It took a charge.
This confirmed to me that it's not the battery. It must be the phone perhaps USB port or more likely "firmware" since problem started abruptly after draining battery down.
I then wiped data on the SII from CWM/recovery and rebooted.
SII is now charging again. Stock battery is back in and working.
Time will tell if all is well, but here's what I think happened:
1) battery drained down to zero while unplugged
2) plugging in and starting up phone immediately threw something off in the battery stats at a low level...that kept it from charging even when turned off. Or rather threw it into a loop. Don't really understand this stuff, but may have to do with physical things that happen in a battery when the cells drop down way low and then the voltage feedback they give to charging circuit.
3) charging battery in another device (gingerbread, by the way) got the battery out of this, if battery had been a contributing factor,(or just a trigger) it was back over the hump.
4) wiping data fixed the charging, so I conclude it was a charging circuit data issue triggered by an ultra low battery.
Hope I'm over this problem and hope that it helps somebody else. If you run into this yourself with no previous USB or hardware issues, I'd suspect software before hardware. If I had only one battery and no way to charge it externally, I would suggest get one of those simple universal clip-on chargers to bring the battery back up and then go into CWM and wipe data.
UPDATE: It's stopped charging again. It's no longer looping since I got the battery charged up, but not right either. As soon as I plug it into a USB, it boots itself without powering on.
I guess that this is looking more like a physical USB issue now. Weird that there's been no previous sign of trouble before today.
UPDATE2: I cleaned USB port but no help. Then I bent the USB contacts towards the screen and it is charging now again. I'm ordering a replacement USB.
I should add that I'm running Shostock Jellybean, older (not current) version with it's associated Jeboo kernel. Don't know if it matters.
I wish I'd seen your post sooner.. I had exactly the same problems back in January. Took all the same steps you did. In the end, an 8$ USB flex cable from EBay solved the problem. I think you'll have luck with that:thumbup:

hey, I'm experiencing the same issue slightly different.
-Sporadic charging (starting and stopping)
-Randomly started "car mode"
-plugged in the charger while the device is switched off, it automatically turns the device on.
-If the cable still plugged in while the charger removed from the main current, it shows "Charging stopped. High voltage"
-From yesterday, it doesn't charge even. Only way to charge is, connect the charger first and then Restart the device.
Then only charging continuous.
Can anyone help to solve this? Is this a software issue?
Thanks!

Also, there was this issue early --> when I charge it from the laptop, the USB mode doesn't switch on. It just charge the phone only.
But now it's not even working like that.

hi, my s2 wont charge. It just shows up charging when plugged in but it doesnt charge at all. and it overheats too much while plugged in. What is that flex cable you said, is it the one that connects the charging port to the motherboard? were you the one opened and replaced it? thanks

[Q] "Slow Charge" notification? What did I do?

I started seeing a "Slow Charge" notification yesterday saying that I should plug in a genuine HTC charger to optimize the charging time. I normally charge the phone at my PC using a USB docking station and have done this since the phone was new in April without ever getting this notification. Despite the notification, it still seems to charge fine though, although it might be imperceptibly slower, I didn't really test it. I did test with a wall charger and the notification went away (it wasn't the HTC charger), so at least it is checking for something.
I am charging the phone at work today (also through USB/computer) and get the same message, so it isn't just the home setup.
A couple theories that someone might be able to shoot down for me:
I accidentally ran my phone completely out on Saturday, would that have triggered anything? Maybe the battery needs a few cycles now that it has been fully* discharged?
The phone has been fairly warm when plugging in the last couple days (new game ), would that trigger this? It wasn't warm every time though and the notification is still there.
Unlikely, but was there a change with the 4.3 update that might effect this?
*The phone shut off, but I assume that didn't damage the battery since the phone did an automatic/controlled shutdown at 1% or so to go.
USB charges at 100mA and can ramp up to 500mA. The wall charger is 1A and will therefore charge significantly faster. Neither is an issue, but my HTC One has a tendency to see any non-charger as a USB port and therefore slow the charging. Only real problem is driving with GPS running.

Thanks.
Like I said, it hasn't been a problem, I don't even notice the difference in time to charge, it is just that it is new. And after 6+ months of ownership, something new randomly appearing is weird.
It is currently charging in the same port and doesn't have the notification by the way, so it appears random. Go figure.
I agree that it appears randomly. I'm not a fan of this 'feature' that HTC built in. I'm still looking to find out what HTC's threshold is the activates the notification and the slow charge mode. The only charger that this concerns me on is my car charger, but I haven't received the message lately. I also have not used my GPS on a long trip in a while.
Same issue "Slow Charge" notification + No PC connection
I also purchased my phone in April. Just recently (month or so) my phone is now giving me the "slow charge" notification. Also, I can no longer connect to ANY computer. I have tried 6+ computers and none of them recognize the phone. The phone doesn't seem to notice it is plugged in to a USB port either. I have tried toggling the Developer Options and USB debugging without any change. There doesn't seem to be much info on the internet regarding this issue, but the ones that I do find seem to be similar to my issue. This seemed to happen after the 4.3 update.
Are you also having problems with accessing your phone storage when connected to a computer? Thanks.

Hi bigpile,
Did you find a solution for this? It now happens to me too (slow charger notification and no usb debugging).
Same issue..
My HTC just started doing that. Tried all the usb ports on my pc it comes up with a "slow charge" message but if I plug it into a wall charger (a Nokia micro usb on in fact) it works fine.
Main concern is that the phone will no longer come up under "My Computer"
I can charge it fine using the wall charger but it just doesn't want to work through my usb port on the pc (I have tried changing the cable same issue)

A116 Charging issue

For past few days, I'm facing this strange problem that the phone doesn't charge beyond a particular limit, and sometimes at all. When I plug in the charger, it displays 'Charging' but the battery level doesn't go up. I tried few things to understand where's the problem:
1.) I changed the charger and used the other ones (700mA, 500mA, USB charging with PC) and they worked well for a while, although slow charging, but afterwards the issue re-appeared and phone stopped charging even by them.
2.) I changed the battery, thinking it's a battery issue. The one that I got from a friend charged perfectly well with my own MMX charger for the first time, but now it's giving the same issue again and not charging beyond a particular level, say 40%, which will eventually come down and it won't charge at all.
I'm confused as what kind of problem it might be - hardware issue with the charging socket, charger/USB cable issue, or a firmware issue? Has anyone faced this problem till now wherein the their phone doesn't charge, even though it shows 'charging'? Please share what did you do to resolve it. I'm currently located at a remote place and cannot visit a service center.
how old is your device? if it's more than 9 months you might have to replace your battery. you could find it on ebay.

[Q] Weird Charging Issue

Hello,
I have Galaxy S2 and having some charging issue. Yesterday, when I plugged it in the wall charger, it didn't get charged (i.e. even the flash on battery was not coming up) and when I tried to restart the phone, it powered off but didn't switch on. I tried holding the power button to turn it on but it didn't. So, I pulled out the battery and left the cell for some time like 20 mins or so. After re-inserting the battery, it turned on but still was not getting charged. I tried to change the USB cable as well but nothing helped. I then tried to charge it via my Laptop it actually started the charging process but with error on Laptop saying "USB Device not recognized".
Today, I tried the wall charger again and here's I found something: when my phone is ON and I plug it in the wall charger it doesn't charge but as soon as I turn the phone OFF, my phone starts getting charged (Battery image comes on screen which usually comes when the phone is off). So, that's how I am charging my phone.
I went to the repair shop today, he said it's a charging port issue on which I have some doubts that why it is even charging in this way if it's a port issue. I just want to make sure if whatever he's saying can be somewhat true.
Can you please help me out? I would be really thankful to you.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Thank you!
PS: I tried to search about the port issues but I couldn't find anyone having this kind of issue so please!
The issues you have mentioned really do all point to a faulty USB board......it is common (with a faulty board) for some functionality to work while other functionality is lost. The part itself costs pocket change and is reasonably easy to DIY replace......
If you want to go down that path, check my profile for threads I've started.....you'll find a guide explaining exactly how to do it.
Just make sure to read and note the section on 'rev versions' it is VERY important to get the correct one......
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right

Fast charging stops while charging.

Hi
I'll put my G5 on charge and it will start to fast charge like normal then after a few minutes stop and go to just charging, if I pull the cable out the phone and plug it back in, it will usually still not fast charge sometimes it does first time tho but normally I'll have to do that 3 or 4 times to get it to fast charge again and usually it then fast charges normally till the battery if fully charged.
I thought it was the cable as it was on it way out it had a internal break where it would stop charging or go to normal charging at times so ordered a replacement cable same make (choetech 6ft) I've been using for over a year now and a juicebitz 9ft one and there both doing the same and I even tried the original cable and that's doing it too so it's not the cable.
I've cleaned the usb port no change, I've factory reset no change, can't remember when this first started as I thought it was the cable but I think it could of been around the time of the last update but can't be sure on that could of easily been just before.
What to try next could it be a charger fault, a faulty bottom module/ usb port, battery fault or a fault with the phone itself?
Any help would be appreciated.
I have same issue with my phone after last update.
That's good know not good that your having the same issue I mean good to know it's not a hardware problem.
I've seen a couple of posts after I starting this thread in the v20i update thread from users with the same problem so it looks like it's a software issue I can stop stressing about it as there's nothing I can do about it.
I did a search before posting and must of missed it or used the wrong terms in my search.
I just hope they will fix that in next update (oreo)

So do I it's part of what I hate about updates they fix things but just as often break something else.
same here. its turning to normal after minutes and when you plug it again its fast charging for a short time. LG g5 is a headace. My disappointment.
I have the exact same issue with my H-850 I even went to the extent of sending the phone in for repairs under the warranty. They replaced the mainboard and the bottom module but the problem still persists, its either the battery or software, my money is on the software
