Alright, so I'm on Notorious ROM right now, but no matter what ROM I try, the thing I'm about to explain stays the same.
You know that tone you hear when you press the volume buttons in the home screen? To change the ringtone volume... It's all clear when that happens. By clear I mean no LOUD noise is coming out of the speaker. Only one thing. When you press the up/down volume buttons in the homescreen, or when "Audible selection" (under Settings -> Sound) is checked and you touch the phone (you know, some tone is being played)... I can hear a background noise like that fuss you hear on a Radio when it's not tuned right. It's not loud, but it's there.
But whenever I play a media (movie, game, I don't know), I hear a constant noise coming through the speaker. You know, like a FM radio isn't tuned right... just WORSE. For example, I play a game with the lowest volume - it sucks.
Can you try this for me, please? Put yourself in a quiet room and start a game or a musical or something, and turn the volume to the lowest. See if you can hear that... If you can't, put the speaker next to your ear.
I really am looking forward to your feedback. I'm starting to believe it's a hardware issue, but a software one, as well (otherwise that noise wouldn't be heard only when media is played). PLEASE !
Many phones will do this when they are plugged in and charging. Is it doing it when your phone is running on battery only? If that is the case you can always buy a filter for your AUX cord.

Are you talking about the built in phone speaker? Or using an aux cord in the head phone jack?

Everything is fine with headphones attached : no buzzing or anything. I was talking about the speaker ONLY...

Thats what I figured...But the Aux cord filter that he was talking about is only for using a cable to connect the phone to the line in of another device. I tried it over and over again and the only thing I hear is my music (very softly because i turned it down as low as I could). My friend has an atrix too and he could not replicate this either.

So my speaker is faulty
That would be my guess....this is my 3rd Atrix. (Thank you warranty) and I don't remember ever having this problem.

Breaking the screen
The first one hard bricked, the day I got it when I attempted to unlock the bootloader...It was only an hour after I got it so I took it to AT&T and they replaced it. I guess they figured I couldn't have done that much damage in 45 minutes
The second one slid out of my back pocket as I was getting out of the car without me realizing it. It slid right in the door frame and when I closed the car door, the phone bent and the screen cracked. Since the main board was cracked, it quit booting =P I've had my current one though for 6 months and haven't had an issue. (I do have an otterbox defender on it)

That's exactly what I did with a friend of mine. We went to the shop for him to buy a HTC Desire, then we went to a McDonalds and I tried to unlock it. When the radio was flashing, he mistakenly pulled the cable - brick transformation!!! Then we went back to the store (20 minutes later), told them the phone was not booting anymore.

There's something in that phrase that doesn't make sense there... but yeah, I got the last part of it, so case closed .
Just watch out for the future. No more waving at birds with your phone laced to the small finger... it may slip out and break more than just your finger . Hah, now THAT's stupid.

To protect my ATRIX, I have a MOMAX iCase Pro case on it. It snaps on so fast & easy, that it is just as easy to take off... so if you drop the phone, the case snaps off from the corner it lands. That happened to me. Lucky me, the crappy plastic of the phone barely got scratched on its right "cheek"... Need a new case (this one is rather used) or a tighter / thicker one. Oh well...
hey guys like the title says may screen of my brand new xperia s died on me within one week of pursache.

You are absolutly right, however I am very carefull with my phone it is always in a cover and when in a cover a phone should survive a 15-20cm drop without a scratch.
All my other phones ( all SE mostly Xperias ) are ''as new' after one year of use, this phone is not strong enough.
This and all te reports of yellow teint and loose bottoms shows that the XS is not as strong and solid as it feels and has it should
feel sorry for ya .. i know how it feels when a brand new phone keep giving problems. i have always used sony products. my 2 televisions (one lcd and one led), 3 laptops, 2 sony mobile phones (neo v and xperia s), 2 camcorders, playstation 3, walkman, are all from sony. in the neo v, phone security is a built in feature. but in the xperia s, its that ****ti mcafee security that handles the security locking in case ur phone is lost or stolen. that mcafee security is a 7 days trial. what nonsense
sony is getting greedy!

I dropped mine more than a foot onto thin carpet. My phone survived just fine. I am betting it is a fluke or something. You might just have bad hardware.
So far i dropped my phone twice and once from the dining table almost a metre above the wooden floor
Nothing is wrong so far but maybe because my phone has a poly jacket case.
Feel sorry for you. Maybe you need to request a phone change
I think bad hardware to, I sent a mail to sony but so far no reply.
When I get an answer I will post it here, I trust sony to fix it and this time for good.
Hope my phone will be fine... i have no varanty in Russia coz i get Europe phone

20 cm drop is nothing.
Mine dropped from like 40 cm height, and landed on its back. No issues at all. That was two weeks ago, and in any case i noticed longer battery life span :silly:
Must be a problem with the headset itself.

Upgraded to ICS in the meantime or just before the drop?
Following the topic opened for the device twisting in pocket (again, apologies for being a di*k on it), I discovered this other problem.
My back cover is not being completely shut.
I have a .5mm gap between the white border and the white back cover on the bottom right corner (looking from the back), just were the vibration motor is.
I'm even sure that this problem is related to another annoying thing for me, which is that the vibration is way too noisy (holding the corner pushed in makes the vibration smoother).
I submerged the phone in hot and cold water several times when I discovered this thing, but no problems whatsoever.
I tried to heat the back with an hairdryer and clamping it for the night, but eventually it lifts back up.
Oh, and I literally burned the white bezel a little (just a tiny little, but that got me really MAD), so be careful with the hairdryer in case you got the same issue.
I will post some pictures when I get hold of a decent camera.
Did some of you notice something like this?

Not really but comming from the note 2 the vibration alarm feels much smoother soo i think ypu could have a bad glueing spot. I believe there is npthing you can do about it but claim a warranty your own repair tries will make it just worse. If you can't get it repaired under warranty wait for ifixit and look if they publish a repair guide with reapplying of the glue (highly doubt it though)

Yeah that was my first thought, but tomorrow I will check first if it's a repair that could be done without leaving the device in for a week or worse.
I don't want to use an old phone for a week, no way.
Not just for a glue thing that can be fixed in like 5 minutes anyway.
From the other thread I posted:
I kept the phone warm for a bit and then I clamped it for 2 hours, it was fine for half an hour maybe, and then the back plate started to lift up again, obviously influencing the vibration as well.
I'm so pissed as I'm realising that I will have to go for warranty one day.
And by that I mean going through the whole "I bought the phone in the UK but you know that Sony covers warranty damages anyway in any EU country if you bought it from one" process.
I guess they'll definitely will oppose some resistance at first.

It happened way before, because the vibration was always strange...
Anyway, I sent it in for warranty, as yesterday I turned it off and it stayed in boot loops ever since.
I guess SetCPU had something to do with it, as I set it to 300mhz when the screen went off, and I suspect the phone didn't have the power it needed to turn back on.
I tried with every program I have (PCC, Sony Bridge, SUS), everything went fine repairing it, but no luck.
Now I'll have to wait more than a month (that's what they said, unfortunately) and I'll have to live with an LG 2X until then crying::crying.

I live in Verona, Italy, and the repair centre is in Milan, like 100 miles from here.
Still, I don't know why the hell they take all that time.
In fact, I will call Sony again tomorrow complaining A LOT about this.
It's unbearable that in 2013, when I send a package via UPS from Italy to US in 1 (ONE) day, a cell phone repair (in which they will probably just replace the whole device) takes A MONTH.

Or better yet, why just not give me a (paid) option to just get it repaired in a week? I paid premium price for the device, I don't care for another 50 £/$/€, I just want it back.

That problem is usually caused by garbage getting inside the audio output of the s3 which prevents part of the headphones to make proper contact. Try cleaning it first with a toothpick or something.
Cheers mate I'll give it a go! Will update soon!

Not only phones, but any non waterproof devices which is got wet must be turned off and waited till the water dry itself out or by a little heat.
I screwed my laptop with a litre of water and turned it off, waited till 1-2 weeks and my laptop was fine again.
You better turn off your phone and wait till the water dry out.
+: Accelerate the process by a little heat source.
Hit thanks if this helped you.
Little late for that. Phone was dried mins after rwmoving battery. 30 mins later after i knew phone was dried turned it on and everything worked perfect except for the loud speaker. My question is if this is something fixable by replacing bad loud speaker or if board got screwed.
Thanks

I expect if you got a deep system log like a last_kmsg or a detailed logcat then you might be able to see if the speaker is being communicated to or nor. If not then its probably the board. It seems odd that it would be the board though, as I would've thought it strange for just the bit that controls the speaker to go wrong. A new speaker can't be too expensive to be worth a shot though can it?
I did a logcat and nothing cameout telling me of any errors on loud speaker.

I got a sim holder from parts4repair but it's China so it takes a bit, and I seriously doubt my ability to re-solder it in - they must use lazers. Mine works if I don't remove the sim - springs are all bent. I was lucky to get it in. (my sim is a munched sim from a regular sim. i should have gone to att store and gotten a real micro sim, but that's water long over the dam... )
The speaker shouldn't be too hard to replace - ribbon connector if I recall correctly. just pop the battery cover. I totally forget if you have to remove the inner bezel... Hope that fixes it!!!

I agree that I'm surprised if the board is burnt unless the speaker shorted and blew the amplifier. I looked at mine and if you're sure the contacts are clean (red circles) then I have no idea. PM follows.

Guess what?
The problem was not the speaker, the problem started when I modded the battery to Maxx HD. Since the new battery is a tiny bit thicker is somehow preventing the cover to fully close and there is no contact between the speaker and the contacts.

Wow! So it works??? That's fantastic!!! Love Motorola!
Yes it works but i had to put little pcs of aluminum foil so it get better contact.
Worth the moderation as i get over 35hrs of battery life when before i was getting at top 9hrs.
Great - I think you could have also bent those contacts a bit.
I'm really interested - what do I search for on ebay? "maxx hd" doesn't give me much...
