When using the cleanup function I see WeChat for a second - I don't have that app installed.
I know that it's the Chinese equivalent of Whatsapp but personally, I find it quite worrying that it pops up eventhough it's not installed. Does anyone else have this?
Yes that is what I get, mentioned it in a thread last week.

This is so weird, as much as I like the phone, I'm sending it back.
I assume you got a Chinese variant? I didn't find any suspect apps...just the usual Huawei's own (I have the Canadian version LYA-L0C).
Still, you should be able to uninstall anything you don't want using adb.
There's no WeChat actually Installed, as.another member pointed out on a previous thread, WeChat usually leaves a lot of junk behind so this is really just a precautionary cleanup tool for those who might have it installed.

Thanks to xda main page I download this free app and was shocked to find that most apps wanted to know my location my imei and have access to my contacts.
This app is like uac for windows but better. Give it a try on the market

Does this mean most devs have a big brother fetish?
I downloaded LBE this morning. I'm surprised at just how many apps have phone state and identity as one of the permissions. Question is however whether the apps will update properly without this permission.
I have fring requesting contact information and access to sms twice an hour.
Sent from my Dell Streak
Well, from my limited research, read phone state and identity permission is related to one of three things:
1. Android 1.5 compatibility.
2. Registration check.
3. App needs to be shoved into the background when a call comes in.
The Amazon Appstore reads the phone number whenever you open it. This is because the Appstore needs to know what phone to sideload the.app to. It's currently the only app I have that does this. All my other.apps are free since I don't have spare cash to spend on the Market. So far none of those apps have triggered this permission.
You load tweetcaster pro from amazon that asks for stuff alot

Amazing how many stupid apps need to access stuff that they probably don't need to access. Blocked a BUNCH of garbage today...turned on the phone at 7am, and by 5pm, it had blocked 32 requests.
Lol. Had it installed for an hour, nothing happened until XDA Premium app asked for my IMEI...

Hi,
I've noticed in the past couple of days that my screen turns on by itself for about 3 or 4 seconds.
Phone information in picture attached.
On the weekend I did an OTA update via Kies, on Wednesday I flashed This Kernel (SpeedMod S3) via Odin.
Anyone got any advice?
Thanks for your help
this usually happens when u have a certain app or a live wallpaper that does advertise on your phone ... try removing some apps that are for free but ad-supported or remove some live wallpapers and it should go away
Yeah thanks "striving-to-survive", I had noticed some notification adverts since the OTA update. I haven't added any apps. Unless its an app I updated. "AirPush Detector" used to tell me what was sending those notifications, however that detects nothing when I scan. Can anyone recommend something that does a similar job that might tell me where the notifications are coming from? I don't fancy just deleting a bunch of apps on the off chance they are the offender.
I do not think it is kernel related.
Download adfree and run it.
Also here in xda search for the app called
"Anti spy mobile free"

I wasn't sure if it was kernel related, just wanted to give as much info as possible about what I had done recently with my phone.
I have Ad Free, but just realised I hadn't hit the "download and install hosts" button since my OTA update.
I got Anti Spy Mobile Free, after scanning that said I have no spywares, 4 suspicious apps: Contapps, Phone Backup (HChina), ooVoo & MyBackup Pro. None of which I think would be responsible.
Hopefully Ad Free will sort it out.
Thanks for your help
Same issue for me with stock fw and kernel. I have a battery brain since two days and I can see my screen on time up to 4 hours per day without using my phone.

Update your hosts then and keep an eye on it. Check for hosts daily

I have similar issue. My phone also turns screen on by itself, but it looks like it stays on until I turn it off. This have happened about 4 times during week or two...
I have tried AirPush detector. Didn't find anything.
Anti Spy Mobile found 0 Spywares and 2 Warnings. Light Flow Lite and TrustGo Security. I have had Light Flow Lite for a long time, so I doubt it can't be it. TrustGo is quite new, but I think it's trusted app. Could it be the reason..?
AdFree is working and I don't see ads.
What should I try next?
Hi, I discovered today that probably due to play store and services automatic update I have some new wakelocks which keep the device constantly awake. They are GCM_CONN_ALARM,
GCM_HB_ALARM and GCM_CONN. Each of them keep the device awake equal time.
Has someone any suggestions what to do or has anyone else same problem?

I have the same issue since my Android was updated to KitKat.
It seems the problem is in Google Play Services: Location (it's that feature to locate you via WiFi)
I think they know about it. However it's hard to make hotfixes for some reason.
I found two ways to keep my battery from discharging:
1. clear cache of Google Play services and restart a phone (temporary solution)
2. kill all the Google Play services (there are 4 of them in my phone). Unfortunately it doesn't help if you just kill only a location service.
Anyway this issue is still not clear to me.
Turned off sync, now it enters deep sleep also sometimes, but still most of the time device is in active state

Use an app called Greenify https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify to control apps causing wakelocks and battery drain. Works better if you are rooted.

Have you tried to greenify Google play services? It's not possible since it is system app and when converting it to user app won't work.

Now I have tried to refresh another stock based rom, same problem, still only one?

just installed greenify yesterday and have been playing around with it, pleased with the results so far...but i'm trying to greenify google maps and not having much success.
i get that only the donation version (which i'm strongly considering purchasing btw, just want to do a little more tinkering before commiting) allows for greenifying system apps...so i converted maps to a user app in titanium and rebooted - but maps still isn't showing in the app analyzer for me to greenify it. am i missing something? i see tons of people saying they've greenified maps, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to do it...
also (unrelated), what does 'don't remove notifications' do? i checked it but i don't seem to get any notifications when apps are hibernated (i don't get any notifications regardless of whether it's checked or not, actually)...

Maps hibernates fine with the donate version ('nuff said).
'Don't Remove notifications' refers to notifications the target app has posted which could be dismissed by Greenify. Eg: new mail count.
I'm sure it does...that doesn't answer the question of why it doesn't show up once it's converted to a user app. Like I said I'm considering the paid version, but I'm not sure why this wouldn't work as a user app...

Who knows...maybe it retains some if its system characteristics. Donate version $3 USD and it does what you want.
I still might...but the FAQ on google+ specifically says you can do it by converting to user app. It doesn't work. I'd like to know if there's something I'm missing, aside from "buy the paid version" (and if that's the case, they should update the FAQ)

Nvm, after a bit of use maps showed up in the list. Greenified it now, we'll see how it works...

Hello
Been an iOS user since 2007 and today I got my first Android phone. Love it.
I was wondering if it exists a message app that will let me auto answer a specific number with a specific text.
I have unlimited data (sim card in router) but every 25 GB I need to write "TOPUP" to get access to further 5 GB.
You would probably be needing Auto SMS or a similar app from the playstore.
