Even if you do have a recovery cable, you won't be able to recover your Atrix, since noone knows how to recover via NVflash except for Motorola.

I wonder if Motorola would ever be interested in revealing how to do it? I suppose it would save them money in the long run.. We've had them unlock the bootloader, so maybe this is worth a shot?

I was wondering the same thing. They made an official statement that they are willing to unlock the BL, so they can follow the same road and release the SBKs also who knows...
Guys, they didn't officially unlock the bootloader. BL was unlocked by pulling a test build off their servers. I guarantee they didn't intend this.
Motorola fails even with OS updates, so I wouldn't except them helping the developers in any way. Especially disclosing proprietary SBKs.

I agree, but there was a thread here some time ago quoting a marketing director of Motorola with ETAs regarding the bootloader unlock
You need SBK to be of any use. I very seriously doubt that moto will ever release the SBK. They really don't have any justified reason to. There is no justification for demanding them to release it. They can simply say that everyone is responsible for their own modifications of the device, and that they hold no responsibility.
According to rumor, Moto themselves either can't, or is unwilling to fix the hard bricks. People sending them in for coverage under service plans are getting completely new phones, not having their phones fixed.
My hope
Has anyone tried whit the factory cable and this? briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-system-boot-file-sbf-leaked
It may be a solution, please if anyone has tried this with the factory cable that can tell us, works or not?
I feel guilty for damaging the Atrix my brother, now has the old Nokia while I can solve your problem but this seems to have no solution, my Atrix is perfect, works well.
Thanks,

Alex, that link is unrelated. That was early on in the atrix world and the SBFs became used to fix soft bricks. We've evolved way past that link. Unfortunately at this time there is no fix for the hard brick even with a factory cable. The author of that article himself was one of the hard bricks who had to get a new phone.
thanks
Thanks guys, i hope help some day....
I'm going to jump back to the original topic of this feed, does anyone know where to buy a factory cable? I know it's possible to make one, but I dont solder so does anyone know where to buy one, or a way to make one without soldering?
I would say if you can't use a soldering iron the easiest way would bet either stripping the wires twisting them together and wrap them with electrical tape or using a Wire Connector (You can buy them at almost every store that sells hardware equipment.)

From ASUS:
Regarding the bootloader, the reason we chose to lock it is due to content providers' requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible. ASUS supports Google DRM in order to provide users with a high quality video rental experience. Also, based on our experience, users who choose to root their devices risk breaking the system completely. However, we know there is demand in the modding community to have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, ASUS is developing an unlock tool for that community. Please do note that if you choose to unlock your device, the ASUS warranty will be void, and Google video rental will also be unavailable because the device will be no longer protected by security mechanism.
Thank you for all the understanding and support for the ASUS Transformer Prime. Happy New Year!
In short: Cheap way to avoid giving us warrenty. **** this company for real.
Well I'm excited!
Did you seriously expect them to keep your warranty intact?!
Guys, don't forget that whether they offer unlocked bootloader tools or not, most modding will void most devices' warranty anyway. HTC did the same, but Revolutionary beat them to it. If you don't want to use Asus' method which will guarantee voided warranty, then support your devs. Give them a reason to break that encryption and unlock the bootloader.
Yes. You can unlock your bootloader on your shiny new Transformer Prime and enjoy the freedom everyone else is offering.
If you agree to void the warranty of your shiny, new, state-of-the-art, out-of-the-labs fresh super Android tablet. The very instant you get it.
Are they ****ing serious? They cannot be ****ing serious about this?

But since it has unlocked bootloaders I can always restore it to stock and relock those bootloaders. Noone will be able to tell.
I get to keep my unlocked bootloader dessert and eat it to.

Me: Dear Sony, does rooting void warranty, without touching the bootloader?
Sony: "Dear x,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We can confirm that rooting your Sony Xperia Sola would unfortunately void your two year warranty.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause..."
OMFG
Does anyone think that they might not detect root? They already said that re-locking the bootloader won't hide it's unlocking.
*facepalm*
The bootloader thing is detectable.
Root can be erased easy.
I thought it was normal that root = warranty void ?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
They tell you it voids waranty but it only counts for software. My xperia play was bootloader unlocked and sony repaired it two times free.
Sent from my MT27i using xda app-developers app
No worries, just flash back a stock ftf and they won't have any idea you rooted your device at all.
From what I heard from the Sony reps in my country, bootloader unlocking only voids warranty for certain hardware failures such as overheated CPU due to overclocking, motherboard problems etc. Other things such as screen should still be covered.
Hmm ^^ the above posts are quite positive...just maybe I will do it...thanks! :good:

Actually no, I just got the phone today, I don't want to destroy a 2 year warranty, like many have done NOOB. I have a Sony 2010, 2011 and 2012 device and they have changed their response to this.
Also, Sony supports the modding community by giving 20 phones to XDA people - do you read? NOOB
Secondly, Sony has been unclear about this. They invited interested customers to test their beta ICS ROM which involved unlocking the bootloader, then 6 months later they tell everyone who's unlocked the BL have definitely voided their warranty (there are very few exceptions). They never clarified which part of the software modding voids warranty, hence the press statements and 'clarifications'.
So take your smug attitude, and next time, if you can't help, BUZZ off!

As told... BL unlocking is traceable... rooting is not.
You can root your phone and, the only way you are detected is if you send it like that.
If you don't unlock your BL you just need to flash or hard reset phone and you have your fone back to original state.
In either cases, If you don't want to take chances don't touch the phone... that is Sony idea... you live with that if you want.
That's really helpful, thanks!
The email told you that.

Interesting development? That's over 18 months ago.
This is what Sony UK told me:
Hi #####, validating the warranty of a handset once the bootloader has been unlocked is done on a case by case basis which is why we are unable to say for definite whether or not the warranty would be voided by doing this.
However, unlocking the bootloader is usually done to load custom roms and unofficial software which does void the warranty in most cases.

I've asked for an example of when it wouldn't void the warranty, but yet to hear back, will chase them up on Monday.
It really depends on what your issue is. If it is something that can be attributed to running a custom kernel or from rooting, then they may deny it. If it is just a hardware failure like a bad screen or something then they will generally fix it. Of course you could always end up dealing with some jerk who wont help you at all though. Most manufacturers are the same way (HTC and Sammy), but they generally fix things even with a root and custom rom.

Quite right, I don't know how that happened, but that is an old article.
In the meantime, it's good getting feedback from others like above ^^^ we know for example that they have repaired some phones with unlocked BL. Exactly like the guy above says, it's related to what you did with it I guess.
It's easy to unroot I think. How could it be detected? Except unlocking bootloader, even when it relocked again but I receive code from Sony, so it's traceable.
Okay so I hate to be "that guy" but I've ordered a H930DS, simply for the raspberry rose, I think it's absolutely stunning, anyway... I know and all of you guys know by now that the chances of the H930DS being added to the bootloader unlock page from LG is probably 0%, so my question is, is anyone currently working on cracking the bootloader, is such a thing possible, or should I just come to terms with the fact, root is never going to be available

Come to terms. The guy who is working diligently on the T-Mobile root also has ideas about bootloader unlock, but he's not working on that. He's working on T-Mobile root first.
Bootloader unlock may never happen. It never happened with the 2015 Verizon Droid Turbo 2. That phone was never rooted.

Yep bootloader hacks just don't happen anymore (for the most part). These carriers who lock them aren't dumb anymore and it just doesn't happen like it used to. If you care about root buy a universally development friendly device like a pixel or 1+.
I stopped rooting and making ROMs right before the V20 came out and at first I thought it was gonna drive me nuts but it didn't. I don't miss constantly wiping, restoring, finding work arounds for things that broke, etc just so I could move the clock to the center of the status bar! I have theming which is more than enough for me.

This might sound like a bit of a stretch, but would it be possible to get a refund because it's not fit for purpose? Not sure about the rest of you, but living in Australia, we have strong consumer protections, and from my understanding, if an item is knowingly sold with a feature that is advertised, yet absent in the consumer product without any amendments (in this case Bootloader unlock), then TECHNICALLY that's false advertising right? So on that basis, would it be possible to obtain a FFP refund from LG?
Why have the button that's so obvious in Settings > Developer Options, and clearly marked "Allow the device to be OEM unlocked", when you can't actually unlock it? It sounds petty, but I feel like I've been swindled.

Agree with you there. I've got the H933 and it's frustrating that they include the option, but prevent you from unlocking the bootloader. I'd love to add a couple features... Like tying the notification volume level to the ringer volume level (why the -bleep- would you want your text message notification to play louder than the ringer anyway?!?!?) Or the ability to incorporate your memory card with the internal system memory, since the card goes in the same slot as your SIM card, and you have to basically render the phone portion useless to change the memory card in the phone...
Never understood why they do things this way...
But that OEM bootloader unlock option has been in Android since Lollipop (late 2014). Everyone knows it doesn't do anything IF the carrier/OEM doesn't want it to do anything.
LG and Motorola have bootloader unlock websites where you get a code to unlock the bootloader.
Problem is LG won't preemptively list those phones. They only get put on the list AFTER the carriers have had the chance to fleece their customers. Usually it's the no-carrier open market variants, but for the open market LG US998, they never finished the process. They put in the IMEI for the open market LG US998 V30 (and NEVER announced it) and still haven't put in the IMEI for the US998 V30+.
What's the chance we get something like a temporary root exploit like there was with the V20?

Yep, we're in the same boat, we shouldn't fight each other lol. I mean I'm positive that it will never get an official bootloader unlock, I'm only hoping it would get root through some exploit. If it's only a temporary root so we can make some quick system changes, it would be perfect for me.
It still seems highly unlikely.

Also, I think it's a matter of time until some devs get more news about this bootloader unlockable capabilities.

Oh, danke
It's still need to wait some time to get it active?
So there's hope, at least the bootloader can be unlocked.

Coming from oneplus series...they release the bootloader unlock on almost same day and TWRP and root will be available next day...here i almost waited a full month...still nothing...thinking about selling this and waiting for oneplus or something which have a good developer support
This phone is a tarted up budget phone, no "enthusiast" is going to bother with ROMs, it's not worth it. I have one, and it's one budget-ass phone, screen size and battery are the only things that make it vaguely worth buying. For the same price you can get a S10+ which is a much, much better phone in all respects.
The glasstic back is horrible (mine is even peeling off near the camera, great stuff for a week old phone), the cameras are pretty weak, earpiece volume is poor at best, and having to use an anctive headphone jack sort of sucks.
As for debloating, I just use Package Disabler Pro, same as all my Samsungs, and had no problems. Yes, it costs a few £, and yes it sometimes stops working, but when it does work it's a great job.
Not at all impressed with the phone at all.
It so sad that Samsung is really going down the ****ter with enthusiasts. Locked bootloaders and hardly any 3rd party developer interest makes all of Samsung's line less desirable. I guess Samsung is only interested in being the Apple of Android phones.

No that is impossible on every phone, but its not like you need warranty anyway.

There's a problem in your thought process there.
Samsung, or any brand in that case, isnt obliged to offer you 3rd party support.
Roms are being cooked by amateur hobbiests, enthausiasts or side projects for people working in IT. This has nothing to do with samsung and does not affect its "desirableness" at all.
The bootloader is not locked. Its secured so idiots cant accidently wipe the device.
If you dont like it, why dont you cook your own rom. Or next time, check XDA first if there's a community activly developing for it if you love rooting so much.
****ting on samsung because you dont understand something is not cool.
Think twice next time before you start to point fingers and blame the wrong people.
