Just saw on lg.bbs forum the LG OTA FIRMWARES PUBLISH DATA page, whom lists:
● LGH930AT-V28g-EUR-XX-APR-24-2019 and
● LGH930AT-V29a-EUR-XX-MAY-02-2019 for EURO OPEN H930.
and
● LGH930DSAT-V29d-HKG-XX-MAY-16-2019 for HONG KONG H930DS.
Analizing the build number and dates I do think we will have our Pie slices next month

No. That's not Pie (for the public). If you look at the file name, you'll see why.
Come on. I've said this over and over:

Also Pie KDZ for V30 will start with 30-something range of numbers. Like Nougat was 10, and Oreo was 20.

Yes it will. This isn't Pie. Pie will start with 30a (or something very close like that in the 30's, maybe even 31a.)
Also, Korean carriers will get it first. Not Europe or Hong Kong.

Of course this is! Just isn't the final v30a, but eventually will be. The development of LG's firmwares always happened this way. Before v10a we have the betas v09a, v09b, v09c and so on.. So by logic V29a/b/c/d is the beta Pie for V30a/b or V31a/b or how they want to name it.
Did you even opened the site before doing your post here? The What_new information even says "Update Content Android OS Upgrade". I think it funny because you are talking like you own the truth lol

I know what both Nougat and Oreo were called, and no we didn't have 09a, 09b. This phone was released with 10a Nougat. Period.
Yeah, INSIDE LG there was probably pre 10a for testing, pre-production firmware - which I would not want on my phone whatsoever.
You don't even provide any sort of link to your information. I just know the naming convention for Nougat, Oreo and Pie on our phones.
If 29 is their buggy internal beta testing, it's not what we will get nor what we want. 30a will be first Pie or 30-something.
And Korean variants will get it first. Just like they got it first ALWAYS. But most recently with V35. Korean variants V35 has Pie while no other V35 does yet.
Whenever the Korean v30 variants get Pie then the rest of us will start getting it a month later...

Well, talking about Korean models the most recent info is not what I call good news.. it's a 1880.98MB sized internal OTA, named LGMV300SAT-V28a-SKT-KR-MAY-13-2019-256G, with build date May 13, and analizing the build version sequence v28a looks like is going to take more than a while until a stable release comes out to the KR public.. sadly

Thanks for the link.
When Korean variants get 30a, weeks later other variants should start receiving it. See the V35 thread for Korean Pie screenshots. Non-Korean V35 have been able to Partition DL to Korean Pie, and everything works. Not sure if that will be the same for V30. I know European and Korean V30 radios are incompatible.

Korean variants V35 have had Pie for weeks now. Others are still waiting for official Pie, but the Partition DL trick works for now, for them.

Except it turns out like for the V40... Verizon got the Update first, before the korean one (and tbh, that surprised me a lot).
But yeah, those 28a and whatsoever builds are internal test builds, and im sure arent the first and only ones lol
Pie is in testing for many months already (i think devtester (broken now) showed internal updates once in february or march? because of an LG ****up)

Yeah those are internal Pie test builds, but they are not public releases normal people will get as OTA updates.
I'm just very tired of people asking if every OTA update is PIE. It's not Pie -- for us -- until it's at least 30A.
If the point of this thread is that LG is beta testing Pie, I would hope they've been doing that for months now. So that's not really news. No regular users will get the builds posted at the top of this thread. If you had explained that, there woudn't be this back and forth.
"Hey folks, here's more proof LG is BETA TESTING PIE. No these are not the builds we will get. Those will start with 30a."
Also, until proven otherwise, Korea carrier variants will get it first. See below.

Especially when the LG is right now following their normal procedure with the V35: Korea first, rest of the world later. I think V40 (and ESPECIALLY Verizon) has to be a strange anomaly. (Unless there's something in the LG/Verizon contract we don't know about.)
For the V30, Verizon was the carrier who need TWO updates (20a and 20b) to get everything everyone else got (Oreo + ThinQ) in 20a a year ago. Verizon are laggards when it comes to updates -- even more so than LG!
Over on the Moto Droid Turbo (Verizon's name for Moto Quark), took Verizon until late December one year to get Marshmallow when all the other Moto Quarks got it in July of that year.
FIVE extra months, for no valid reason. Oh, I know the reason -- it was to help Verizon sell more phones. And even then their update had bugs so bad, they had to stop the update to fix stuff, then restarted it a couple of weeks later. So, what were they doing for five months? They just sat on it, wasn't even testing it. Because due to the build numbers, we could tell Motorola had given Verizon the update in July, like everyone else. Verizon just didn't want to release it until after all the Q3/Q4 back-to-school sales/ Holiday sales had passed. Because Droid Turbo with Marshmallow (two years after release) still beat all of Verizon's other newer Android phones at the time. So, Verizon delayed the Droid Turbo Marshmallow update to try to force Verizon users to update to newer phones which had Marshmallow.
I checked a few more models on that site, G710EM (European G7) for example already had 20a OTAs, or some a 20b, but nothing officially released, so i assume they either found critical bugs (as G710EM pie kernel source got published, but got taken down again), or its actually really close to actual release.

Not much change in UI.
-Secondary keyboard keys are a bit funky
-I would consider the circled stuff as bloat/useless
-Ringtone menu items are in Korean
-Running apps slides have rounded edges
Phone runs pretty damn smooth with same/good SOT. I'm on TMobile in Los Angeles & LTE is fast.

When we travel to Brazil, what's strange is even the domestic airlines on their websites won't take "international" (to us, "regular") credit cards --- but instead only take "Brazilian" credit cards. (Or at least they didn't, haven't been back in 3 years) So, we had friends in Brazil pay with their "domestic" credit card, then we pay them back. I think we used TAM airlines to travel from Sao Paulo to Cuiabá. Friends picked us up then drove us to Capão Grande.
Here in the U.S. all credit cards can be used for anything, inside or outside the country. Yes, you may have to notify your credit card company you intend to purchase something in another country, if you don't do it on a regular basis.
So, S.C. is Santa Catarina? Haven't been there but Sao Paulo and surrounding area, plus Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul. Also several days in fishing village on the coast in state of Rio de Janeiro -- but haven't actually been to city of Rio de Janeiro (yet). Capão Grande, Mato Grosso is very beautiful area -- lots of agriculture, free space, but high on a plateau.
Been to Brazil 6 times in 10 year span, each time for about 2 weeks.
Sorry for off topic.
OT...Chazz, how do you use your phone when you travel out of the US and in these other countries? Do you buy and use international/local SIM cards or use plans put in place by your carrier? I'm flying this weekend to London for a couple of weeks and am unsure which is the best way to do this.
Thx.

Last time we went to Brazil (3 years ago), we still had our Moto Quarks. Because my wife doesn't want to spend time in cell phone stores trying to buy local SIMs and her having to translate for me, instead I bought two "business traveler" SIM cards off a website. Was guaranteed to work in like 80 different countries (including U.S. and Brazil), and they have agreements with local carriers in all those countries. Here in the U.S. they use AT&T.
So, I was able to activate the SIM cards HERE and try them out on our phones, double check the APN settings, etc before going to Brazil. (Be careful when doing that as some of the cards are only good for two weeks; ours were good for a month. I didn't test them until a week or so away from our trip.) I then put our "regular" SIM cards back in our phones until we got on the plane to Brazil. During the flight, I put the "business traveler" SIM cards in and when we landed, we had cell phone signal through a local carrier.
I think I used this website, or something very similar:
https://www.mrsimcard.com/s-travelsim.html
For you going to London, on that page see the TravelSim Classic COMBO EU package (2nd choice):
____
TravelSim Classic COMBO EU package
Period 14/dy Plan
VOLUME DATA 1GB 4G
Talk / Text + International Cost
FREE incoming Calls / Text + 100 Mins + 100 SMS $25
(However on that plan you would have to activate when you got to Europe, as it's only for Eurpe -- which is OK as long as you know. I got one that included South America and U.S.)
____
OR do Ctrl + F to search on that web page for "United Kingdom" to see the various packages and compare between them.
I noticed as we traveled around the country it would change to various carriers. Sometime Oi, sometimes TIM, etc -- I guess depending on who had best coverage in that area. Brazil is as large as the continental U.S., just turned sideways. Sao Paulo city is larger than New York city.
The SIM cards I bought were good for 30 days, but you can buy others that are good for 2 weeks. Just depends on what you need. In the two weeks we were there, I almost ran out of data on my card. I could have just bought more through the website, but instead I just swapped SIM cards with my wife. Ha!
To be clear, this option was more for convenience and peace of mind than just pure cost. A local SIM card is always cheaper -- but I was able to TEST this out before I left the U.S. and I knew when we landed our phones would be working. I was able to call my sister back here in the U.S. from the airport to let her know we arrived safely. Texts also worked. I have Google Voice and basically just needed a data connection for phone calls and texts -- but these SIM cards also provide a separate phone number. Unlike international carrier roaming charges, I knew EXACTLY what the cost was and paid it in advance. If you need more data, you can purchase more.

Has LG in the past granted the carrier promos to buyers of the carrier unlocked models? I really don't want the silver color + 64g is kinda small.
Are there typically a lot of DEV stuff going on for the last few carrier unlocked versions?
Going all the way back to the vzw Droid 1, rooting has always had it's advantages. Mainly being getting the OS updates quicker. That was the biggest selling point.. not waiting for your carrier to package the latest OTA update. But I look around these days, and in order to root it seems you have to be on a very old build, and it just never gets updated? Not only that but it seems to bring on major issues like no text or data, or can't dial out, etc. I mean wow these are kinda show stoppers. I stopped flashing ROMs because there were so many that just dragged and dropped files/apps from other phones. It's like they were frankenstein builds pieced together with apps from new phones, with varying CPU/GPU packages. All ROMs I've read about seem to say 'Optimized', 'Tweaked' etc, but never.. I mean never lay out any technical specifics of what they coded , changed, or added. Are there any ROM makers around these days that take a piece of a phones code and modify it? Maybe I should try to find a stock rom with ability to change kernels, and no show stopping bugs.
My issue is I tossed my lame iPhone work gave me in a drawer, so I use my personal unlimited plan for both corporate and personal. So I can't be missing a call or text/email. Also I really like LGs skin, most say it's the worst of the bunch but I've always thought it was the best. I couldn't live without that quick memo app.

YES. I've posted plenty of links to carrier unlocked version dev work for both LG G6 and LG V20. But here you go:
LG V20 - 4 pages of ROMs, kernels, recovery, etc.
LG G6 - 2 pages of ROMs, kernels, recovery, etc.
The LG G6 is impressive only because it wasn't added to the bootloader unlock list until practically July (June 29). So, in like 3 months time look at all the dev work it has! The LG V30 will be that and MORE -- because it has much better specs than the LG G6, which had
"last year's Snapadragon",
had only 32GB internal storage in the U.S. and European models)
only some model had Quad DAC (which U.S. and European models didn't have),
only U.S. model had Qi wireless charging.
The LG V30 is the phone the LG G6 should have been.

No, LG isn't going to honor carrier promos. Why would they? The carrier is trying to get your monthly service charge, LG is just selling you a carrier unlocked version of the phone. Take it or leave it. They're not trying to compete with the carriers, they are business partners. They're not trying to steal sales from the carriers. That's why they wait a few weeks AFTER launch to even sell the carrier unlocked version.

Remember it's internal storage + microSD card. It's not like iPhone or Pixel crap.
Plus, we don't know what the carrier unlocked models will have yet. They haven't been announced or released. We only know they are coming because LG always does it and B&H photo already has a webpage devoted to the US998. THAT webpage says 64GB.
Whether LG will sell a 128GB model directly on the LG website we can only hope.
So does anyone know if LG is affected by the newest cpu bugs?
Qualcomm will use that A75 core for its Snapdragon 845, while other Snapdragon lines list the A53 and A72, which are only vulnerable to the two Spectre variants. As we said, Qualcomm uses a mix of custom and off-the-shelf cores; they are probably affected by Spectre, and maybe Meltdown

The vulnerabilities give malicious code access to anything stored within the kernel memory which includes passwords/privileges. They could also easily inject code into kernel memory space which could do just about anything without anybody knowing about it.
January 2018 security updates blocks the vulnerability but at this time, it's only available on Google devices.

Yes, all Snapdragon processors are currently affected by this.. It's an interesting concept to utilize an exploit to gain root access. I could also see this being applied to jailbreak an iPhone and potentially port Android over to it.

Then we don't necessarily want it blocked until we use it for our own needs, i.e. root.
Sent from my official carrier unlocked LG V30+ US998
The theoretical explanation of how each exploit is performed is outlined on this page: https://meltdownattack.com/
Maybe one of the ROM/Mod developers would know more about being able to achieve this but it's past my pay grade.
the problem with bugs like this is the limitation that /init gives to exploited root shells. dm-verity is also an issue as it blocks the su binary from being dropped into the correct location, so a persistent root is pretty much out of the question. the only thing i could see coming from something like this is a "tethered" root which would be run on a computer every time a user wanted root access. i no longer own LG devices so would not be able to test on my own but would still be interested in working on this with others!
Adding Spectre to the list pointing to a nine to twelve month wait to buy this phone:
1. Spectre, Krack (Jan 2018 Security patch level, will take at least six months to reach V30 factory installed OS, probably Oreo).
2. Bootloader unlock for US998, TWRP and root with "bugs" ironed out.
3. Display problems, may see improvements over the first year of production.
4. Substantial price drops, probably after nine months or when the V40 is about to launch.

Your list is mostly bogus, with all due respect.
3) I own three of these phones and there are no display problems in my daily use.
4) I paid average $597.33 for two V30 and one V30+ -- both official "open market" US998 from B&H Photo. Less than $600 each. Yes, I used $400 LG Gift card rebate, and B&H Photo gave me partial refund AFTER the sale on the V30+. A friend sold me her extra LG V30 at her "gift card" price of $600. She bought two just to get the gift card discount and split the cost with me. But that's three bootloader unlock eligible (will be) V30/V30+ for less than $600.
I just helped a friend buy a new Verizon LG V30 for $675 on eBay. Still brand new in the box. That was even before the recent price reduction from B&H Photo. There's even better deals on eBay, but that one was totally new, never been used -- and she needed Verizon branded, not open market.
Current price is $675/$775 at B&H Photo for the North America open market 64GB V30/128GB V30+. (I paid less due to gift card rebate.) But not sure how much less price you expect a phone that competes with the Samsung Note 8 to be?
What is your acceptable price for a phone with these specs/features?
2) The LG G6 got bootloader unlock by end of June and had TWRP, root, ROMs by July. The eligible European LG V30/V30 already have bootloader unlock, TWRP and one ROM. North America "open market" LG V30/V30+ will soon join the party. After that, the pace will really pick up.
The variants on the official LG Bootloader Unlock list are the only ones guaranteed root, which we've said since September. It's that way with the LG G6 and is that way with the LG V30. While ways are being investigated for North America carrier-branded variants, and there's always dev magic, there's no need to wait a year to buy this phone.
1) All security patches can be installed by devs on custom ROMs, just like they always are. This is XDA.

Good information.
But:
The evidence from the multitude of users suggests a problem with the display. Unlikely that that one user's 3 units are representative of the population, the distribution of attributes is most likely not random or uniform with this. The burn in (by whatever term) is real, I saw it on units in three T-Mobile stores. That may be related to extended full-bright operation, but the problem is being worked to reduce severity, results likely in months or year (s).
The price drops should eventually reach nearly 40%, toward the one year point. Regarding the $400 off a second LG device required buying a second device, that is not a true discount but rather a loss-leader promotion to move unsold inventory piling up. Ebay is a fleamarket with distinct drawbacks and risks for the buyer, compared to Amazon or B&H. No, the true substantial discounts without gotchas and catches are still 9-12 months away.
There is no bootloader unlock for US998. Period. Who knows when, if ever, that may be released. And no guarantee of root after that, either. We've been reading predictions in this forum, of bootloader unlock a few weeks after US998 release and root a week after that, but the US998 has been shipping for over a month now and no bootloader unlock. Given that Oreo is coming, it may be that bootloader unlock is on hold until Oreo is shipping on factory units, who knows. And on that point, another reason to wait to buy: TWRP and root for N will not work for O, that will require a whole new TWRP and root.

Yes, there will be guarantee of root after bootloader unlock for the US998. Saying otherwise shows you really don't know what you are talking about. Maybe you don't understand WHY it's called the LG Developer Bootloader unlock list? As I said, your list is mostly bogus.
(The LG G6 took six weeks after release before bootloader unlock. A "month" is nothing to LG apparently. They can't walk and chew gum at the same time.)
You still didn't answer what you think is YOUR acceptable price for a premium device with these specs? Apparently you think it should be priced less than OnePlus crap with no QHD, no Qi wireless, no IP rating? Sure, I'm all for lower price -- give it to me for $1 and I won't complain --
but $675/$775 current pricing is quite fair for brand new "open market" V30/V30+ which will be eligible for bootloader unlock. Or you didn't know about those prices?
By the way, the gift card thing was BEFORE the open market variants were even released. The deadline to buy was December 2. So, it wasn't to move inventory piling up, at least for those "better" models. It was merely the holiday incentives other manufacturers were also giving for Black Friday/Christmas sales. I only qualified because I PRE-ORDERED and paid full price. (B&H Photo also shipped on December 1, before the official December 5 release date, just to make sure. Very nice of them. But it was my preorder "purchase" that still would have qualified me.)
And no a multitude of users don't have problems with the display. The LG V30 display has intensely low brightness, compared to even the LG Pixel 2 XL display -- because Google made their minimum brightness much higher. Some V30 displays at extremely low brightness have cloudiness, but most users do not use that kind of setting. I don't. Pixel 2 XL doesn't because Google won't let the display have that same low brightness. So, go bash Pixel, it's the exact same display. Other OEMs pull the same tricks with OLED displays (setting minimum brightness higher), but LG doesn't. And it's only some displays, while others have super clear very low brightness. For colors to pop you need brightness set higher anyways.
Now, I'm not talking about obvious flaws in OLED panels that slip through. IF you can see banding even at 20, 25%, then something is wrong.

There is an old saying: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".
There is no guarantee of bootloader unlock. Even if it comes eventually, no guarantee of root. (The Samsung S8 SD vs. Exynos thing is a perfect illustration.)
Back to the original post: The Spectre fix is months away for V30, at the soonest, most likely.
Everything else is just talk. Another old saying: " Talk is cheap ".

My LG G2 just died and I'm looking for a replacement. LG V30 (EU version) looks pretty good, but I have a few questions.
Just like with my G2 I would have to get rid of LG software and flash lineage but that means no lg "features" and here lies the question.
Is there anything gamechanging I would lose?
From what I've read the quad DAC doesn't work but I dont have any audiophile grade headphones so regular snapdragon DAC should get the job done just fine, but what about the camera.
The main reason I'm looking into this phone is the camera, waterproofing and heaphone jack (S8 has also these features but lineage is broken on that thing and I won't touch touchwiz).
So how is the camera on non stock roms? Do I still have acces to the wide angle one and other goodies?
If there is anything else I'm missing please let me know.
You can install both GCam builds one for the main camera and one for the wide angle camera, so you have 2 different apps for each back camera.
As for the quad dac - you can use it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77389334&postcount=15
Onkyo HF Player
USB Audio Player PRO
both are able to utilize the quad dac,
with the 2nd you can even use it with streaming

Thanks. I'm pleasently surprised by that DAC. Thought I would have to give that up for sure.
2 apps for camera is annoying but as long as it takes good photos it doesn't really matter. Is the camera still good on aosp roms?
I know people usually praise Gcam and from reviews this phone has good camera but I figured I might as well ask.
Anything else I should know? I know the speaker is not the best but after the G2 speaker anything is going to be great

Some LS998 V30+questions
Stormwing said:
I've been looking for a modern, rootable, and bootloader unlockable replacement for my rather aged phone (Sony Xperia Z3v) and after realizing the S8 is horribly locked down my search has led me to your extensive body of experience and research involving the LS998 V30+, to a point where I'm pretty sure it's the one. But because I've fallen off the development wagon for so long I hope you won't mind if I ask you a couple things since you are the resident expert:
Given it's a Sprint device, the LS998 should be fine on Verizon, correct? And should be okay overseas as well?
I haven't really ROM'd since the Gingerbread/ICS days on my old Droids, will this be able to offer a similarly open experience?
Is the $315 eBay one a reliable buy? No issues with the screen (burn in, graying) or condition?
eBay's running one of their sitewide 15% off sales today (PREGAME15) and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.
Thanks for your time!

This same dealer also has MINT US998 V30+ for $310 right now. Not sure why it's less than the LS998, but not only is it $5 cheaper but with the 15% discount, that makes it less than $264.... I fully expect it's probably already a converted LS998, but that still saves you one step in bootloader unlock and rooting..
BACK TO YOUR QUESTION.
YES, pull the trigger -- on either.
For the LS998 V30+ $315 - 15% = less than $268 for MINT LS998 V30+. I've bought two LS998 from this dealer -- gave one to my sister, gave the other to my wife (both converted to US998).
Just make sure you ONLY stick to the "mint" for sale (9/10) from this dealer. Don't buy the "good", "very good" -- ONLY MINT.
Yes, the "LS998" will work on Verizon, but not as you buy it. As you easily modify it, with Frankenstein. You'll convert the LS998 first to US998 to sim card unlock/network unlock and make it Verizon-compatible -- with all proper CDMA and LTE bands, blah, blah, blah. At this point you could use it on Verizon since you now have a carrier unlocked US998 V30+, meant to be used on all North American carriers.
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-US998-Unlocked-v30
US998
CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66
ANY North American V30 variant (AT&T H931, Verizon VS996, Sprint LS998, carrier unlocked US998, Canadian H933, regional AS998) can be converted to any other North American V30 variant (except for T-mobile H932) with dev patched LGUP (a.k.a. Frankenstein) The only reason the Sprint LS998 seems more popular is for some reason it was ridiculously cheap on eBay as no one wanted carrier locked down Sprint phones. The Verizon, AT&T, even carrier unlocked US998 were going for $200 more. Then, we found out you could CONVERT the LS998 V30+ to any other North American V30+ and carrier unlock it in the process. Woo hoo! This then reached epic proportions when you add bootloader unlock and root to the mix.
OR you could convert straight to Verizon VS996 from LS998 -- and make it be a Verizon V30+ (which Verizon doesn't actually sell, they only sell the V30). However, let's not confuse you and let's say you convert eBay LS998 V30+ to US998 V30+ for right now...
But wait, there's more! NOW that you have US998, this means you also have fastboot flash commands. You have also converted to an US998 Oreo KDZ with wonderful bootloader unlock exploit. So, at this point we now go on to the WTF bootloader unlock and root. You unlock bootloader, install TWRP, and root.
OK, you started with an LS998 V30+. You converted to US998 V30+ to carrier unlock the phone AND get fastboot flash commands. You've now unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and rooted the phone. 30 minutes have gone by. What are you going to do with the rest of the day?
Well... here's where it gets interesting. AT THIS POINT, you can call it a day, stick in your Verizon SIM card and be happy. OR you can flash the VS996 TWRP-flashable stock "ROM" @westwood24 made for us (basically the latest Verizon update as a TWRP flashable zip file, but with TWRP custom recovery). Now you have Verizon firmware and modem on your phone -- but still have TWRP and root.
(Sprint users feeling left out, yes there's ways to flash back to Sprint firmware. Or you can go flash custom ROMs and just use Sprint APNs and modem.)
Back to @Stormwing's question. You can even flash custom ROMs, if you wish.
Other Verizon users can chime in at this point if they want, to give you suggestions.
Wow @ChazzMatt, thanks for that incredibly thorough rundown! Is there risk in going for that $310 perhaps-preconverted 'US998' model? It does seem a little fishy as it's cheaper yet possibly better, and if the difference is just $5 I'm inclined to go for your tried and tested LS998.
All I want is a reliable handset that works on Big Red and can flash ROMs and I'll be a very happy camper. It's been too long since I've had an unlocked bootloader.

The only "drawback" I can think of is if this US998 already has 20D. Then you'd have temporarily flash 20A or 20B to get back to Oreo with bootloader unlock exploit. But you would have to flash that any way with LS998 (first to US998 Nougat, then US998 Oreo 20A or 20B).
So, you're still saving a step.
My brother in law just ordered this US998 V30+ yesterday, before the 15% sale code. I can't tell him, he'll be mad. But he dunked his old phone in water and needs a new phone fast. He's not into rooting and stuff, he just wants a good phone. And this one is IP68.
wow..I just happened to stumble onto this thread while searching on V30+. Just bought one w/ the 15% off. Thank you sir!!
Ok good to know, thanks. Unfortunately I ran into some technical difficulties with PayPal and ended up missing it. Guess I'll be joining you guys the next time one of these promos roll around....
I have just 2 things to say, 1) the selfie camera's quality is quite embarrassing, Gcam makes it better but you have to choose the longer shutter option and stay still for 3 seconds
2) Check the screen on low brightness for any inconsistencies of the notorious P-OLED

No one is going to defend the selfie cam in the V30. Oreo did make it better. (On Nougat you had to turn off the skin enhancement setting.)
Since I don't use my phone display at very low brightness, that's not an issue for me. You lose vibrancy and colors of OLED displays at low brightness. I've owned five of these phones (gave two to relatives) and know five more relatives/friends who bought for themselves. We all keep the displays at normal brightness, so the topic has never come up. For me "normal" is anything over 50%. I keep mine on 70%.

No. The letter is just the software version. B comes before C. Etc.
But US998 20D has the July 2018 security patch that blocks the bootloader unlock exploit where we don't need LG's permission.
For Europe it's 20Y.
You can look at the date in the file name and roughly tell which update has (most of time). Any with July and later, stay away from. I can think of one H930DS model where an early July update still had June security patch, but that's the rare exception.
Any July 2018 or later, stay away from until bootloader unlock. If you get one like that, you can still temporarily downgrade to unlock bootloader. Just don't install on purpose until she after you unlock the bootloader or you're making extra work for yourself for no reason.

I'm an idiot. It's restricted to certain sellers only again.

I'm wondering if, during these sales, that ebay covers the balance for the sellers that's taken off during them. My invoice shows the full price ($309), but I only paid $263.
And yes, I noticed that the average prices for V30s have spiked up a bit. 20% off is a sweet deal. Also found a killer Tech21 Evo Check case for $8.

I see notifications in the eBay app.
I was on T-Mobile for years but I could save a lot if I became the 4th phone on a shared unlimited plan on AT&T. So I bought a US998 and I brought it to AT&T to add a line on a bring my own device offer. They have an optional $4/month service which is essentially greatly extended caller ID and it identifies "likely scams" among other things like mobile user caller ID and identifies a lot of things that regular caller ID doesn’t. I had it on T-Mo until earlier today. It, however, requires that the phone be accepted for "HD Voice" which the V30 is but not on AT&T if the IMEI isn’t on "their" list of their phones. It isn’t a matter of the phone having the US998 firmware but that the IMEI doesn’t match. If I understand things correctly, and I don’t know that I do, then even if I bought an H931 from an eBay seller, I'd be unable to activate it with full functionality.
If I'm wrong, then I could return the US998 and buy an H931 and flash it to a us998 and give up some memory (the US998 is a V30+) and some cheap headphones and get the missing features. Or I could go back to T-Mo and spend another $30 a month. Or I could give up the caller ID, Wi-Fi calling, HD voice and a few lesser features.
I found an email form an AT&T rep, back in 2016, saying that they were working on adding all features for users of phones brought to AT&T and that they were working on it. I don’t remember if they implied it was at great urgency. When I was at the store, the people there spent over a half hour trying to activate the service and they couldn’t figure it out. Of course, they merely tried the same failing things over and over and never tried other things like maybe calling AT&T support, or looking it up or even asking people who might have known. When I called and got as supervisor, I was told it didn’t work because it was the policy of AT&T to not offer the services on BYOD phones.
Anyone know anything here? I'd prefer info trhat;'d help me get my6 phone on AT&T wiht the features but I'd settle for knowing tghat it';s not goping to work.

No, you don't quite understand correctly. They are pressing you to have an AT&T-branded phone, not specifically a phone they personally sell to you. You could buy an H931 off eBay and it would have the IMEI they SAY they are looking for.
Having said that you admit they didn't call AT&T tech support. I would call AT&T tech support myself or go to another AT&T store. If they still say no, then buy an H931 off eBay...
Also, what happens when you flash the H931 TWRP-flashable zip to your US998? That doesn't allow the AT&T features?
from, what I understand, it comes down to provisioning and they describe the process as one with no discretionary range at all. The only issue is whether the IMEI is in the list that can be so provisioned. Whether it is owning a H931 or a phone of their supply is unknown but they do insist it is the latter. I compare it to the issues some people report trying to unlock a phone they say is paid for and others say it is not. The idea being that there is a somewhat fluid master list somewhere and they are saying there is a list of H931s meant for sale by AT&T agents.
I don't believe it either but it appears to be a road block.
So now do I try to return the US998 because I had activation issues with it? On a fairness level, it's not the fault of the eBay reseller who sold me the phone he said he would, and by all accounts, in good working order.
So what would you do, if you accepted my position that I need these features that seem to require an IMEI that AT&T is willing to provision with HD Voice, and the resulting capabilities which only follow on a phone provisioned for HD Voice so I could subscribe for the $4/.month caller ID service. I’d hate to pay another $300 to buy a H931 to find that the problem still exists or that I now have 2 phones when I need one.
ChazzMatt said:
No, you don't quite understand correctly. They are pressing you to have an AT&T-branded phone, not specifically a phone they personally sell to you. You could buy an H931 off eBay and it would have the IMEI they saythey are looking for.
Having said that you admit they didn't call AT&T tech support. I would call AT&T tech support myself or go to another AT&T store. If they still say no, then buy an H931 off eBay...

I'm going to leave that decision to you.
My sister and brother-in-law both have LS998 V30+ (off eBay) converted to US998 V30+ and they're both on post paid AT&T. He's a successful tech salesperson and they live in a million dollar house.
Another friend of mine (very tech oriented) has postpaid AT&T on native US998 V30 (B&H Photo) and works for a world wide news organization.
I don't know whether they have HD Voice, WiFi calling on their US998 -- but they have never complained about not having it...
They all got this phone on my recommendation, and are using it on postpaid AT&T.
____
My wife and I, my mother and two other friends have either native or converted US998 on Prepaid AT&T. I do not have those features, but I like having the lower price of AT&T Prepaid with the speed of postpaid AT&T included vs the lag of AT&T MVNOs.
____
But you know your needs better than me. I would just try with another store or AT&T technical support before giving up. If you do return the US998 you can bootloader unlock and root H931. I would activate first to get everything done, before following the WTF instructions.

I just spoke to a so-called supervisor who tells me that the issue is one of supported devices on the BYOD plan. they say that while the H931 as sold by AT&T is a supported device, an h931 not sold by AT&T is somehow fundamentally different and it appears to them as having a different "image" (a term not explained or otherwise defined) and so there is no way that a non AT&T H931 will ever appear on their system, as one of theirs. As not one theirs, they refuse the range of services that include "HD Voice, Wi-Fi calling and enhanced caller ID and a security feature that I don’t know the name of.
They insist that this "image" issue is really true and that anyone with an AT&T supplied H931 and a non-AT&T H931 appear as different devices on their system.
They proposed creating an escalation ticket so that the "back office department" can look to see if there is anything that they can do. They say as things are currently set up there is no option anywhere to authorize a non-AT&T phone but maybe the back-office folks can do it, I’m promised a callback in 24 hours and he is improbably making positive sounding noises. As so much of this makes no sense, I don’t expect qi positive result, but I will give them 24 hours
I'm not casting aspersions on any user of AT&T's postpaid or pre-paid system but I can say that I ne3edc Wi-Fi calling for reception where I work and I want the caller IDF service and have come to want it in the 4 years I’ve been on T-Mobile who offers the same product.
Please don’t think that I'm critiquing anyone who is using any carrier's system to their satisfaction. I'm just saying that I would be significantly troubled by not having Wi-Fi calling as I live and work in areas where there is no calling except once inside buildings and connected to their Wi-Fi LAN. And for whatever reason, I'm being excluded on grounds that seem suspicions.

I've just about decided to go back to T-Mo and I need a rom that wont lose root an dwill enable B71 and would like the latest, stockest thing that has been at least partly debloated. Is there any such thing? Is there info for loadng the lastest H932 rom on a US998?

This T-Mobile ROM port for US998 won't give you LTE band 71, but probably everything else:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/rom-lg-v30-t-mobile-stock-rom-20s-t3925486
is there any way to get band 71, and wifi calling on a us998?
I just went to a t-mo store with the us998 rom and put a t-mo sim in it and the hd voice calling worked fine although I didn't try Wi-Fi calling yet. But where I live I think b71 would make a huge difference. In any case I want a chance to find out if this is true. This is probably the main reason I bought the V30: my V20 doesn’t even have B71 and I have no reception in way too many places where t-mo says there is coverage. They also imply that most new build out is with b71, and they further imply that all else equal, ,b71 works better as if it's just magic. It seems at last worth checking out if there's a chance. I see some roms change the modems and some do not. Is it likely that that roms that don’t change the modem will not change the lack of b71 so I'd need a rom that includes an h932 modem to even have a chance of b71 working?
Thanks agian for all yuor help.

If you read that article, do you see who he quoted in that article and what thread he linked to? . Someone named ChazzMatt. Go read the thread he links to, please. I started that thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/t-mobile-600-mhz-lte-band-71-s-carrier-t3671351
That was also in September 2017 before the OFFICIAL carrier unlocked (Open Market) US998 V30/V30+ was released. We were hoping the upcoming "official" carrier unlocked US998 (sold by authorized 3rd party retailers like B&H Photo) would ALSO have the new U.S. T-Mobile LTE band 71 -- and one part of T-Mobile SEEMED to be hinting it would... That you could buy EITHER H932 OR the "official" carrier unlocked US998 and have all the T-Mobile bands. These official carrier unlocked phones are called "Open Market" phones by LG; these are the phones that LG usually lists in their LG Bootloader Unlock code eligible list.
Thus the thread I started, and subsequent XDA NEWS article. That turned out to NOT be true. The tweets we misleading.
Even so, we also hoped with root on the "Open Market" US998 we could activate the hidden T-Mobile network menus we could clearly see. THAT is also discussed in the thread.
Yet in all the time since then, no one has had any luck getting T-Mobile LTE band 71 working on any phone except U.S. T-Mobile H932.
@runningnak3d, the dev who ROOTED the T-Mobile H932 currently uses a US998 on T-Mobile. If anyone could get LTE band 71 on T-Mobile with US998, it would be him. . He hasn't, and he says LTE band 71 is not that important for him.
______
We also found out the the only difference between the "Open Market" official carrier unlocked US998 V30 (64GB) sold by B&H Photo and the US998 V30 (64 GB) sold by U.S. Cellular is the B&H Photo V30 was secretly eligible for LG bootloader unlock code. One of my V30 used official LG bootloader unlock code, but we had to hack the LG dropdown menu on the LG Dev website to enter the information. LG has NEVER officially announced the Open Market US998 V30 is eligible for bootloader unlock code. That trick/hack does NOT work for the Open Market US998 V30+. So, only one of my phones was bootloader unlocked using that method.
However there was NO DIFFERENCE between the various US998 V30+ (128GB) sold by the any entities. NO US998 V30+ is eligible for LG bootloader unlock code, and ALL US998 V30/V30+ are actually carrier unlocked -- even those sold by U.S. Cellular.
LG was not forthcoming with any of this information. We had to figure it out by ourselves, through trial and error.
With WTF exploit, we are not dependent on LG for bootloader unlock code. But that developments did not happen until May 2018. My US998 V30+ was not bootloader unlocked and rooted until then.

Of course I know it was you. that's why I'm asking you follow up questions.
I'm seeing comments along two theories and I dont i know which is more likely true. Theory one is that the 835 chips come in two types, ones that have band 71 capabilities and those tht dont, or the other theory which is that there are software modems thaat compensate for the lack of included band 71 modems, and where a certain software modem could add the capbility. In effect, some say that the US998 can never get band 71 and others say for example, that if you knew what you were doing wiht the Shortcut Master you could add the band, or alternatively, you could flash the correct rom or modem.
And so I start doing my homework and sure enough, you show up as one of the few that know anything about it.
I have no idea but I keep being told that things arent going to go the way I want them to. I'm hoping that I can get band 71 using this phone because I just bought this phone and I need or think I need band 71. It is why I bougnt this phone.
How do things look for me getting band 71? My clever plan to go to AT&T failed rather dramatically by my standards, even if you think I should be fine without the functions that so many people don't care about. Out in the boonies, T-Mpo is putting most of their efforts into band 71 and I spent a lot of time driving where there is no reception and I'm told there'd be a lot more if I could get that band. that's mainly why I bought the new phone as the V20 still works about the same, not getting band 71 every day.
I'm trying to learn about this phone after 2+ years with the H918 but I'll never pick up what you know any time soon, so I'm asking you.

Bob, if you knew I wrote it and had already read the thread -- then why did you bring it up? If you read the thread you know it's not possible, as far as we know. I spent a lot of time trying to explain all that in my post and you already knew it. I didn't know how up to speed you were. If you had said, "I read this article, I read the whole thread, is there anything new, yes or no?" I would have simply said no, nothing new. Move on.
You are making my head hurt.
Here are your choices:
Go buy a new AT&T H931 from AT&T.
Go buy a mint AT&T H931 off Swappa you KNOW was bought from AT&T. Swappa instead of eBay this time because they check IMEI, etc before letting it be sold. Having been bought from AT&T rather than leftover stock from some warehouse, it SHOULD be in the AT&T system as eligible for all the stuff you want. If you are uncertain, then go buy straight from AT&T.
Go buy a T-mobile H931 if you want to stay with T-mobile and get LTE band 71.
no, I didnt understand and now I do
thanks. i thought it was supposed to be possible.
so my best bet is to get a 931 so I can pay less.

Are you an AT&T customer? AT&T only gives updates to AT&T customers. Plus, AT&T firmware has some bloatware you don't need if you are not an AT&T customer.

No, there's no advantage right now to running Pie. I am still on rooted Oreo firmware myself. The later Oreo updates (2019) have fixes and more features than Nougat or even early Oreo (2018) updates.

Yes, I am an AT&T customer but through Cricket Wireless. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I just know that Cricket is using or owned by AT&T. Thanks for the updated link. I will take a look at it but if you say that there is no real advantage to the update then I probably will just stick with Oreo.

Then you're probably on the last Oreo.
The last one posted here for H931 was 20Q. Since AT&T doesn't release KDZ publicly, Dev has to basically cobble it together from OTA Update.

I called Cricket Support and asked them about the possibility of an OTA update and they told me that even though the phone could be updated to Pie, that LG did not have a Pie update for the V30. And honestly, even though I am fairly tech savvy, I don't think I want to go through all those steps to do the update. I might change my mind later but not anytime soon. I really appreciate all of your time and information though and have it bookmarked for later use if needed.

???
They told you wrong. Cricket apparently knows nothing about the AT&T H931. Yes, it has Pie.
The only North American variant which doesn't have Pie yet is Sprint.
But AT&T H931 Pie is not posted here because the dev tools for AT&T Pie don't work. So, last one posted here is Oreo.
But if you had AT&T SIM card, your H931 would receive OTA Pie update.
However, you're not missing anything. I'm still on rooted Oreo firmware (on purpose) on my US998 V30+.

Yeah, it didn't sound like he knew much about it to me either. I wonder if I could switch over to an AT&T card to get the update. But then I guess that would mean having to switch over completely and paying more for my service. Oh well, it's not something that is going to make having my V30 any less desirable to me. I'm good with Oreo.

Unless you know someone (relative, friend) who will let you borrow SIM card to activate the OTA update?
On the AT&T V35 (different phone, but same idea), people bought UNactivated AT&T SIM cards off eBay and they worked to download Update.
Then put their regular SIM card back in...

Just so happens... My wife's phone is AT&T. She is on the "Go Phone" monthly plan. Would that make a difference? Or maybe I could switch over to the same plan to get the update.

I think just putting her SIM card in will do the trick.
You may need to reboot, etc.
Worth trying.

I will do that but it will have to be tomorrow. She has gone to bed and she uses her phone for her alarm. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow evening when she gets home from work. Thanks again for your help. Are you sure you don't work for LG?
@ChazzMatt, Well it turned out that my wife's Samsung S5 has a micro SIM and not the nano SIM. I'm going to take my phone to the local AT&T store and see if they will help me out. I may end up switching back to the AT&T Prepaid service though for the extra support and more Gigs per month.
Finally, all is well.

Well after all of that, I ended up dropping Cricket and going back to AT&T Prepaid. I am on the 8 Gig per month plan. And the best part was that right after I installed the AT&T SIM card, I got the OTA Android update. I'm a happy camper now as far as my phone is concerned. I thank you again for all of your help and tips. :good:

You're welcome!
I'm on that plan, too, with AT&T Prepaid. AT&T doesn't throttle that plan, unlike the "unlimited" one.

That and the "Hotspot" feature that I could use on my tablets as well. I'm still exploring Nova Launcher as well and having a blast with it and I appreciate your help and tips on using it as well.
