Hello!
I'm a noob when it comes to the ins and outs of Miui as this is my first Xiaomi device, I've come from HTC and LG before
So, when I first got the phone I setup the Miui account, not putting my phone number in, got the phone all setup and started using it as normal. Now when I come to unlock the Bootloader I find the account needs a phone number associated with it and it's here I hit a brick wall.
When I try to edit my account to add a phone number I'm supposed to get a verification code to my registered email address which is a googlemail account. I've tried multiple times and I'm not getting this code, I've emailed Tech Support and they're slightly misunderstanding what I'm trying to achieve and not getting the fact there's no code for me to enter to edit the account and it's not in my junk/spam folder.
I've also tried the manual verification technique but that always comes back (as an SMS annoyingly!) that there's no associated device with the account.
I've just tried to setup another account using my work Exchange email address and no code but I'm pretty sure that'll be the work spam filter.
Has anyone else come across this and got any tips?
Thanks in advance for any help!
I'd try setting up a new gmail account and then set up a new Miui account using the new gmail account with the fone number this time.

Thanks. That's my next plan of action just so I can unlock the bootloader then go back to the original account.
I've had 2 more email dialogues with Xiaomi support and they just don't get it. :silly:

As the title says I am currently unable to setup and sign into my gmail account. I just flashed the mr2 radio and GINGERTH3ORY V4.2X Tweaked/God Complex rom and when i try to set up my gmail account i keep getting the "your username and password do not match. please try again." Idk if this makes a different but i do have my gmail set up to do the google authenticate thing were everytime i use one of googles services for the first time i have to input a certain code.
This is unfortunately one of the reasons I stopped using google authentication. If your near a computer you can go into your account setting and click on the two step verification link and it should take you to a page where you can create a password for an application. Once you have the password from the site go back to your phone and put the password in as your google account password.
The only downside is every time you change roms and you have to put your password in for your account you have to get a new password from the site. I decided to just make a much stronger password for my google account and stop using two step verification.
I hope this helps!
This fixed it! thank you so much, and here i kept thinking i did something wrong. and just raped my battery life flashing different roms trying to fix the problem. I was starting to get really frustrated
No problem, I went through the same thing but I was away from a computer so I had to get on my wife's iPhone just to get me a login password.

Lol, you guys didn't figure out how 2step verification works before signing up?
Yes, you need to use two-step verification to log in via a web browser (or the browser on the phone...lolz), and then create a unique password for each individual app that wants access to your goog account.
I used it for a while, but decided it was too much of a PITA. There's other options for strong passwords, like a coded wallet card thing that I saw a while back...
Yeah this: http://www.passwordcard.org/en
O yea its a PITA at times. I'm sure it would work fine if you keep your phone stock and never have to wipe data but when flashing roms and radios that require a full wipe it sucks having to go back in a get the password just to log in to your google account again.
I searched around and have not found anyone posting with the same issue but I cannot figure it out.
In the notifications section at the top of my touchpad there is constantly a message from google.
It has the g icon and it says "Google Web login required."
I tried signing in to every google option I could find and even went on to my gmail account through the browser and nothing I do removes this message....
Anyone have any suggestions?
try removing your google account from account settings and readding it.
I've had the same issue and you need to unlock your google account using the captcha. Just google "google captcha" and unlock the account.
you don't have two step authentication enabled on your google account do you?
have the same issue and did the whole unlock thing and still have the issue. And no I do not have 2 step verification nor do I want it. If that is going to be a requirement to use an email client then screw gmail I will go back to just using yahoo which is my main email. What is with google and making things anti user, they have to make everything so convoluted. All yahoo does is similar to what my bank does when I add a new billpay, just sends a confirmation email with a link to disable it if you did not add it. Got that when I added my yahoo email to my touchpad, and it is working fine. But no google has to have their 2 step verification, sorry I do not want that hassle, even if it is just once a month, its complete overkill.
anyway, I just set it to update manual only so I don't get that annoying message every 2 minutes if I keep getting it will just delete the account, still working fine on my android phone.
Hello, I am in England,UK. My fone is jacked up big time. I got it on Thursday, and am unable to create the e:mail account on the fone in the apps section. I can create a G:mail account on it which I don't need through the G:mail thing, but am unable to do so on the e:mail icon.My account is yahoo, and am told because it is yahoo, it is complete competition with google, therefore the fone will absolutely not be able to use yahoo on it. Is this true? if so, then I have wasted 500 quid on a paperweight thats too light to weigh down paper.
I am on Vodafone, and I rang them on Sunday morning, and they told me to change the proxy numbers and the port number. The fone is factory standard, was brand new on Thursday, and is on Andoird 404.
Ask Jack to try this first .

Thanks for the link, however, after trying for the last 15 minutes to try get to work, still no joy. Will installing the new jellybean softwae help when it comes out? It doesn't look like this fone wants to work properly. First Dobby, now this!!
Just use the yahoo app? I used to use yahoo years ago but made the change to Gmail well worth it.

The competition with Yahoo has no bearing on whether Yahoo accounts will work. I just set up a Yahoo account there and it is having no problems sending or receiving mail through the email app. What exactly is happening when you try to set up an account?
Use the yahoo app. My wife uses her yahoo account everyday. No problem sending/receiving emails. What happens when u try to set the account???
Hi, ok, when I go to the create an e:mail screen, I fill in the full e:mail adress, and enter the password, the it has the working circle, checking incoming servers for about 20 secs, then comes up with message box saying,' Username and password incorrect'. Thats it.
I HAVE for the time being signed in using the fone's app, but that is a manual receiving system, I don't want to check IF I have mail, the creating the account thing alerts me when I DO get mail right? So I can go straight to it without having to sign in constantly via the fone's app.
It worked fine from the first time I signed in the my Nokia N900, Nokia E7, HTC HD2, but this Samsung won't do it.
I had the same problem and a few other people. Here's how I got my Yahoo to work on my S3. Log in to your Yahoo account on the computer/laptop. Change the password and save. Now do the same on your phone. It worked for me and the other people who had this same problem.
Good luck
If johnw's fix doesn't work, have you tried setting up an account manually? Presuming you used the automatic set up thing.
I think that my Hotmail and/or S4 has been hacked. Last Monday I received word that a strange email was sent from my account with a link to skin care or something like that, so I changed my PW. On Friday, I received an email from Outlook that says my account has been compromised and I should change my PW, so I did, again. Sunday night, I'm told that another strange email was from my Hotmail account, so I change my PW again, 3rd time within a week. Each PW wasn't overly hard, but always contained both letters and numbers, so not super easy to crack I wouldn't think. So I started to try to track down the source, I removed email accounts from my phone on Monday (I have the stock email app set to check 2 accounts and have yet to have an issue with the second account). I also noticed in the Hotmail access log that my account was being accessed in 2 other states while all this was going on. So, all was going well and today I set up the email app with my Hotmail account info so I could check my email from my phone. Within 2 hours, my account was accessed from out of state again, but as far as I can tell nothing was sent.
I've read that its pretty simple to send out an email using an account that you don't have access too directly, just set up to use as a sent address, nothing shows up in my sent items so that would support this possibility. It's the account access log that has me worried, they still seem to be accessing my account. I've had AVG on my phone for quite some time now and that doesn't pick up anything, tonight I DL'd Lookout and that also came back as a clear scan.
My phone is still stock, would a factory reset fix the issue? I'd question whether or not a reset would get rid of the keylogger/spyware/malware or whatever is creating this problem. What about rooting and flashing a rom? What else could be causing the issue? I'm afraid that if I close the Hotmail account that there would still be something on my phone that's giving others access to my accounts.
Sorry for the book, T.I.A.

I'm not familiar with Hotmail, but many email providers allow 2-factor authentication. I would definitely suggest using that if it is available to you.
Check the IP addresses on the accesses from other states - do they match your ISP? Sometimes ISPs give out addresses that show up as different states. If Hotmail doesn't show ISP, you can put the IPs into the search at http://bgp.he.net/ and it should show you the ISP.
It is indeed trivial to send email appearing to be 'from' any account without access/relation at all to the account. Unfortunately spammers often take advantage of that and there's not really anything you can do about it.
I did activate the 2 step authentication.
I did track the IP address and then Googled what came back from the search (Cellco Partnership DBA Verizon Wireless) and it appears that this is tied with VZ and the related towers. It just seems weird that at one point it says its being accessed in Minn and the next time in Colo but I'm in So Dak and haven't traveled far from home since all this started.
Regardless, last night another email was sent with my email being used as the sending address. I've decided to close my Hotmail account because of all the hassle. I'm still looking for some advise on whether or not I need to reset the phone or possibly root and flash my phone in order to get rid of anything that might be stored on my phone. Is it worth worrying about or should I just move on?

Can you PM me the full headers of the email that was sent? I should be able to see in them how it's being done -- whether through your actual account, hotmail's servers, or just forging your email as the 'from' address.
You'd have to get them from the person who received it... in gmail it's as simple as clicking the little arrow and then 'Show Original', but the method to show headers will vary by client/provider, should be easy to google though.
About the IPs, it's not unheard of to be assigned IPs from a state or two over. It's obviously not an ideal configuration, no idea why it happens, but it has happened to me several times in the past. But we can't say they were your phone unless you've been keeping track of what external IPs your phone has been getting...
It is a really good sign that they're not some weird server host in russia, etc... though.
It's very common for spammers to forge a sender's email address - they can easily send spam which is "from" you without having any access to your account whatsoever. Some of that spam will get bounced back to you based on the use of your address, not because it was actually sent from your account. The bounced spam should include the headers it was originally sent with, from which one can tell where it really originated.
Are you sure the "out of state" access isn't just legitimate access to the account from your phone? IP addresses are logical, not physical. The geoIP databases which try to map addresses to locations aren't perfect, and your cell carrier may in fact be associating your phone with an IP mapped to a different state.
So i was using Pure Nexus rom 7.0 for my nexus 6. And i was using 2 step verification with sms option.
But because i was logging in a lot out of my PC and didn't receive the sms codes sometimes, i decided to try Google Authenticator app. Biggest nightmare of my life.
I disabled the sms option to try make the app the default way for using 2 step verification.
Then a Pure Nexus Nougat 7.1.1 rom came out and i wiped everything, without making a nandroid backup (yes i know, so stupid of me).
When i wanted to logged in to my account it asked for a code from Google Authenticator app which is not installed in my phone so i had no way to log in.
I had to ask from help from Google which is apparently has the worst costumer services i have ever seen. I filled the account recovery form which asks me when i created my google account(like i would ever remember) and then i ask me to provide all the details i can.
This week my 5th request to recovery for the account was rejected. Sadly, i get an auto email from google telling me that they couldn't verify i'm the rightful owner. They asked me for more details, but wont tell what details that could be. i have no idea what can i do to prove then im the owner.
What a disappointment from google that i cant even attach photos to the request and that all they do is to tell me to provide more details with an auto message, with no guidance.
Oh, and btw i posted in the google nexus forum and was told the exact same thing as the auto -reply email.
Anyone here had he's account recovered and can tell what detail to provide?
