How would I go about rooting the phone? It's a tracfone. I'm new to these newer phone models.
Wow Crickets.......Were you even able to flash a recovery on it?
Seems like a nice phone but their stupid policy (Tracfone) is that they will not unlock it to a different carrier for 1 year.
I grabbed one of these for my daughter thinking I could drop a sim in it........OF COURSE NOT, VERIZON is on the tool train ABOUT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME NOW REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT IT IS FIOS OR WIRELESS OR ANYTHING TV RELATED.....
Boo Hiss. The President needs to start rolling out the Anti-Trust suits or sites like this won't even be able to publish any further in a few more years.
GOOGLE AND VERIZON AND APPLE AND AND AND WILL PUT A STOP TO IT........

About to buy a used SGS II... AT&T version. Do i need to check for anything in particular before i am buying it (other than the normal power on, GSM check, phone call check, etc)??
Buying it in person, so i get to check it out first.
I'd say have a look at the wifi too. See if it works.
Also, check for dead pixels. Try to view a perfectly white or perfectly black background and see if there are any stuck or dead pixels.
Check to see if the loudspeaker works consistently for a couple of minutes.
Any dents, etc. will tell you whether the phone has been dropped or not.

That's just my two cents on buying used phones. I don't own a Galaxy S2 (I bought a used Galaxy S a few months ago) and I just thought that I would share some basic stuff. Hope that helps.
You'll have to ask the others for software/firmware stuff.
check the firmware and the sd card slot..
Now what should we all think?.....Its OEM or Its Verizon to blame for.....

Let's be honest, most people use the unlocked bootloaders to install custom roms that can circumvent the software installed on a device to prevent say wireless tethering without paying for a subscription service. This is downright theft of service. Just like it would be illegal to steal cable tv, you are not paying for a service that a company is charging other customers for and using the wireless resources unrestricted.
Verizon has the right to charge for their service and get paid by its users. Yes they are in the business to make money and yes locking the bootloaders protects its interests as well as the interests of the people who honestly pay for the services they use.
Don't fault Verizon for trying to protect its own interests because if you were the CEO of the company and it was your job o talk to the shareholders about what you are doing to protect their interests, that you wouldn't do the same thing.

If Verizon wants to lock the bootloader, why does it affect GSM users? Verizon is USA based company.... Just curios

I thought International/GSM variant of RAZR is bootloader unlocked as posted by Engadget last year... damn....
My GSM XT910, AsianRetail (SEAOP) bootloader is LOCKED, and I did not buy the phone from VZW. The current kernel has bugs, where the clock i drifting, 1-2 seconds/day. Same bug in the last GB 2.3.6 for N1. For N1, I patched the kernel source code, compiled and now, my N1 clock is a accurate as before. I don't care about the ROMs, because, stock ROM is more than enough for me. Just give me chance to load and use my own kernel.
Motorola uses Free and Open Source project in the product. They save millions of USD for software developments, so, why not give something back to us. Give us freedom to choose (kernel/ROMs).
Thank you.
I'm trying to purchase 2 additional SAMSUNG standard batteries that have NFC. I'm scared that my searching for the cheapest price may make me susceptible to accidentally getting one that may have NFC. Therefore I'm paying close attention to the battery part or model number, but I've ran into TWO different part numbers so far and can't tell what the difference is.
First there is EB-L1G6LLUCSTD found mobilefun DOT com/35102-samsung-galaxy-s3-standard-battery---eb-l1g6llucstd.htm
Second there is EB-L1G6LLAGSTA found thecellguru DOT com/Products/71619
Any clarification on the differences and/or does anyone know of anywhere I can find the least expensive SAMSUNG batteries (not sold w/ charger) without getting stuck with one that doesn't have NFC.

Hello guys,
Bought Mate 20 Pro recently. Apart from my frustration with HiVision missing on my device and OEM unlock grayed out, I have found that I cannot use / register my VISA / Mastercard with the phone's NFC and use it for paying... Seems that the Google Pay app is not compatible - cannot find it in the store on this phone. Phone is bought from Europe, so EMEA variant. No OEM software available to serve this purpose (like SamsungPay)?
Am I missing something?
Regards,
Kamen
I have the L09 variant in the US and this hasn’t been my experience.

Have you tried downloading Safety Net Check app from Google Playstore and see if it is all successful? I'm also having issues with Google pay with the recent 9.0.0.168 firmware update and now I get an error when trying to add a card to Google Pay NFC.
I'm getting CTS profile mismatch failure in that safety net check.
Probably different from your issue but maybe can help pinpoint the issue further?
Yeah google pay not working.
This is the worst flagship phone i have ever tried - feels more like a counterfeit copy of a flagship honestly. Google pay cannot possibly work since i cannot install it (see pic). Any luck for anyone else? I think i will just put this phone in the rubbish bin where it belongs and never try chinese pieces of crap again...

Well it's the best flagship I've ever used. So much so it's the first time ever I'm keeping my phone longer than a year. You clearly have a faulty handset or bought an import that isn't compatible with some of your local apps.

Yeah i had the phone replaced this morning and the difference is HUGE (huge is not a strong enough word for it). The processor seems to have had a manufacturing fault that caused most of my problems. Though google pay on the replaced device keeps saying it is not compatible but huawei tech guys said it is probably a sim card issue (???), i will have that replaced.. the defective phone i had was crazy slow and jittery and many many issues with signal strength https connections, etc... If i find a sollution to the google pay app i will post an update here
UK, Model LYA-L09 (C432), Build 9.0.0.238, Showing as compatible and ready to install. Must be an issue with a certain variant?

Hi, I know people are using the Mate 20 Pro here in the States but I'm not finding a lot of info on things that definitely work, things that definitely don't work, etc. I was wondering if things like VoLTE, Wifi Calling, and Visual voicemail work with any carriers at all in the states? Is there a specific carrier that is recognized as working better with the bands in this particular phone?
Thanks

All 3 things you listed weren't working on my mate 20 pro on T-MOBILE before I sent it in for replacement. Also speeds were much lower on speed test compared to my son's OnePlus 6t side by side on cellular. Like 4-6 down vs 25 on LTE. But I never noticed without the speed test.
I'm on T-Mobile U..S with the L29 and Visual Voice Mail works.
VoLTE is not available, there's another thread here that discusses why.
I've never seen WIFI calling work on a non T-Mobile branded device

Another One Plus plug slipped with no sublety into the Mate 20 Pro thread. And by a newly created XDA account. Nothing suspicious about that.

I'm on T-Mobile network via Mint Mobile. I don't get visual voicemail with my budget carrier. WiFi calling and Volte don't work--although Volte worked with the P20 Pro so a future software update could change the Volte situation but don't think WiFi calling is ever likely to work.
Phone reception on the T-Mobile network is excellent for me. Network speed is excellent, GPS works great...but if you need Volte and WiFi calling you should probably look elsewhere (but not at the 6T unlesss you want to waste $600 on a $300 Oppo phone with an upgraded CPU).
Some people think the Canadian version of the Mate 20 Pro might support WiFi calling on T-Mobile but I have the UK model.

LOL. I feel like you're insinuating that I don't have a mate 20 pro, or am being paid by OnePlus. LOL.
Even with the 3 points above. I still choose the mate 20 pro over the 6T for myself. I only compared the OnePlus 6t because I got 2 for my son and son in law in the last month. And we've been comparing them.
The better screen resolution, better battery and efficient processor, and amazing camera still keeps me choosing the Mate 20 pro.
I had the option to return or replace the Mate 20 pro I sent back to Clove this week after inspection. I chose the replacement. I would have liked the flat screen allowing for a tempered glass screen protector. But you can't have it all.

I'm also curious why it posted from my XDA app under another account. I've been a member since 2011. steadly2004, not steadly200401..... weird. Currently I'm logged on via my laptop. *edit* figured it out. I had clicked to log in with google, which created another account when the old one wasn't associated. I just had to Un-associate the newly created one and log into the OG one. Then re-associate. And thank you for pointing that out, I didn't realize it was even occurring.
Looks like you've been a member for 3 years, I've been for 7. Although, you're more active than I am.

Wifi calling works on plenty of non branded devices. All I've ever bought are non branded devices and the Mate 20 Pro is the first to not have wifi calling on TMobile. Although this phone isn't really sold in the US so that's probably why.
Edit: with regards to wifi calling, if you do need it on TMobile, there's always the Digits app which is free. Just log in and everything is routed through wifi (calling and texts). It's a great app and I wonder why it's not too well known.

You could always try the Whitestone dome glass screen protector. I have it on my note 9 after the oleophobic coating wore off (too much gaming wears it off pretty quick) and it fits like a glove. Works with a case too. Some have complained about it peeling off, but it works great for me.
I tried the whitstone dome glass on my pixel 2 XL. It was very nice and smooth, but chipped easily, On the corners. Not sure why but the glass just seemed like it wasn't tempered or was too thin. I might end up trying it again. I think there are some non US brands that are comparable to whitstone. They were mentioned in the screen protector section.
