Hi, I'm trying to free up some space in main memory so I can install another app but I don't really know what I can delete and what I can't. I know some of the cooked roms managed to free up quite a bit of space so I'm not sure what they deleted. Any advice on large files I can blow away or simply directories/file types that I can safely delete in a standard wm6 install? Thanks.

"Clear Temp" is something like CCleaner for Windows, it allows you to gain back a few KBs. There were also other softwares with this purpose like Dinarsoft Memmaid. (Maybe you can recover more space)
Anyway I always allow to install softwares onto external microSD to avoid to wear out the internal memory of our good old devices.

Hi
Sorry not a high tech question but would appreciate some help
Re. my viewpad 7
Seems to be constantly short of inbuilt memory.
(should be 512mb)
was down to zero today though have not addded anything for a while.
Clearing cache and history via browser took it back up to 8 mb but already with an hours use down to 6mb again.
Have moved everything that Apps manager allows over to the (16GB) SD card, which still has lots of space.
Neither of the "File Explorer" or "Settings/SD card and phone storage" routes let me actually see what's in phone memory.
Pad is "as bought" re rom's etc
Would appreciate any help.
thx
Russ
It's got 512mb total, which is split over different partitions.
You are running out of space on the /data partition, try uninstalling some apps, or use an app like apps2sd to move some to your sd card.
Thanks for quick response but have tried deleting a few apps and have already moved everything that can be moved onto sd card
have downloaded a couple of versions of app2sd apps 2sd etc but they do not offer any more suggestions on apps that can be moved as I say I have aready moved all that seem moveable
It does seem that it's some sort of data thats the problem but I can't see into the inbuilt memory to see what data it is or from what app

It is stupid Android. When you move apps to SD, than still some (usualy bigger) parts is still in internal memory. When you move apps to SD, than info about occupied space is valid only for occupied space on SD by the apps. If you want to know how big is the application than you have to move back to internal memory, than info is correct.
Also some updating of system apss can consume very big space of internal memory. For example Aldiko can occupy 6MB !!!!
The problem is, when you install a new app either from Android Market, Amazon App Store or anywhere else, the system retains the .apk install file somewhere in memory. I'm yet to find where those files are stored.
You can use a file manager like Astro File manager to see all the files on your viewpad 7's internal memory however, manipulating those files is a bit trickier. I thought I found them in a \sys\data directory or something like that but the system refuses to let me delete them.
Does anyone know for certain where these .apk files are stored. I've deleted/moved everything I can and am down to the apps that I need on the unit. If I have to delete more, then there is no sense having a small form-factor tablet. The space that is being used is far above the applications that I have installed so there has to be garbage files somewhere that need cleaned up.
Hello people, just wondering if there is any App that a designed part of size of the microSD and simulate that's internal memory, something like that cause the real thing is that I am getting without free space on my internal memory....
I have moved several app to SD card but this is not enough it seems..
any idea?
thanks

This is a common and well know issue on desire phones due the limited internal space memory... the only way to solve it (but you still will have a "limited" device) is the procedure which starts from rooting the device and procede thru several steps... unlocking it, installing a custom recovery, installing a cooked rom... then optimizing the whole system.
you can install an app called app sd to make sure you have all the movable apps moved. also going through and clearing the cache and or data in some apps can free up MBs of space.
if that is still not enough i would suggest rooting which would allow you to delete some of the system apps you dont need.
still not enough? then go full blown and get a custom rom going. there is a whole section of xda devoted to it. take a look. and good luck.
If you are rooted, then goto the following thread ...

"Ever wondered why??"
So I noticed when trying to install things that want to go into the system directory I no longer can because there is no more space (im at 503MB used and 823kb free), what I dont understand is why are my google play apps putting anything in there in the first place and not just going into my 2GB internal storage like there supposed too and also why when using titanium backup I move apps to SD but yet they are still there in the system area and I still havnt free'd up any space?.
Confused and dont know why its not getting fixed, can anyone help me on how I can get all my apps moved to the 2GB internal storage like there supposed to be and clean up my system storage so I have free space to install mods please.
Thank you.
Okay so I got it all figured out and I mainly just needed to convert the additional apps my carriers CSC/Hidden files added to a user app and it freed up some space, but now im wondering what else can I convert to a user app to free up more system rom space? I moved googled maps that seems to be fine but not sure about a lot of others that are included into all stock samsung firmwares.
Also why didn't Samsung just parition the system rom section to be bigger?... the newest firmwares are using up more and more space to the point where they will barly fit those in let alone anything else from the carriers that they wanna add on... Seems like they would of been better off giving the system rom a 1GB instead of 512MBs.
application could not be installed.free up some space and try again in samsung s3 any suggestion?

I'm not being funny mate but isn't this the most obvious thing, you clearly have too many files and you've like ran out of space, at least that's the way it looks, move some apps to external sd card or just delete..SIMPLES
this happened to me before, apparently some apps after being uninstalled, still have some files left over, if you try to reinstall the same app, you will get the error.
check under the data folder for any remnants of the app you're trying to install, its likely that it left some behind.
hope this helps!
Thank you but the strange thing is that i have more than 5 giga empty in my internal memory!!!!!!!

m having the same problem. i have 4+ gb space empty but still a few apps are not installing. this happened after root. it there anything wrng??????????
Guys, sit back and relax. It is not important how much free space you have on internal or external SD card, but how much leftovers are still persisting in Data partition.
Easiest way to sort it out: use LuckyPatcher (please do not ask from where to take it), Start it, use troubleshooting, and choose Remove fixes and backups (insufficient storage available).

It happens when you have unused odex files in data/app
Can remove manually or use luckypatcher (on latest version it' s an automated process to check and remove unused odex at launch)
So simply run Luckypatcher and try once again
Hello, well, I'm sorry if this thread shouldn't be here, I'm a new user =D. But well, I ask help please, I hope to find an answer.
See, I've rooted my phone, but I can't move the apps to SD. I partitioned the SD for using Link2SD and it recognize the partition ext2, but can't create the links for apps. I fixed the problem the SD for writing (I can copy, cute and paste from internal storage to SD and inverse? - Sorry, my english is basic and don't have enough megabytes for using an English-Spanish dictionary =D-). So, I think that LG made a good job locking the system. I found some apps for trying to solve the problem, but I think the system protects of they (like Force2SD, Final App2SD, etc.) because don't let me install them, it says that the device don't have enough memory, but does let me install other apps heavier, like facebook. So, the system doesn't give permissions for move apps although the device is rooted. For now, I read that my only salvation is installing a Custom ROM. But there is no ROM for my device until now . Someone knows another option for help me?

I just figured it out, phone is rooted, card is partitioned, you can still only move very few apps to the card, but you can "link" them to the card, it is the option below the move to sd button. I went from having 400MB free to 750MB with the free app, and now have 1.2GB with the paid version. I am amazed!
