Nokia 7.2 Strange Behavior neither here or there - Nokia 7.2 Questions & Answers

Back in March, purchased four new Nokia 7.2 phones for the family. Moved the Sims from old to new devices and activated them through my carrier, and all was working fine with all four phones.
Then today, one of them, one that belonged to one of my kids, started behaving really oddly. I should say, some other things started a few days earlier, like some mmorpg aps started telling my kid to use device he made account with, which is what they were doing when trying to log in.
Today, it got stranger. Went to send my same child to a party using my AP to buy the ride and send it to my kids phone. My side showed it was working, but my kids got no notifications what so ever, so made a share link, and sent that which worked.
Once AP showed me they got to their location, waited for the call which was a system we set up to verify they got to where they were supposed to. Call didn't come, which was not normal, so called their phone and also sent a text message. Phone rang and rang first time with no one picking up. Figured maybe they got absent minded, as they were at a party saying bye to their best friend who was moving from the USA. So tried again, to have someone answer who was obviously very angry, and yelled in a language I still have no clue, and then hung up. I immediately believe either they are in trouble, or had their phone stolen, so call their friend who hands my kid their phone and my kid tells me, he tried calling me, but call would not work, just total silence so they called my wife instead to say they were ok. My kid also tells me they still have their phone and it's been on them all this time, so no clue how someone else could have answered their phone.
I decide to try something, and log into my account as all 4 phones are registered to me, and go to see where their phone is located, but was unable to as their phone did not show up, only the other 3 did.
I then try something else and log directly into my kids account to try same thing, except doing so, caused the application to lock up almost every try.
When I finally did log in, did a location find, and every time map refreshed, it either showed my kids location or jumped outside the USA map and locked up. I try making phone ring, a few times, which resulted in getting two text messages in a foreign language with characters I never seen. I even noticed that the two pop up messages were not even in the mms text message ap.
Shortly after, my kid calls me to say his phone location ringer went off once, and wanted to make sure it was me. Only once, out of 6 or 7 tries.
After they got off, their phone showed up on the other account where it was missing earlier, and the location stayed now where my kid was. When they got home, checked the parental so, and saw only one location ring was recieved.
Is their something new, that allows someone to steal services off ones phone? Makes me wonder if we got a used phone.
Reminds me of a neighbor who got arrested for many break-ins several years ago. They would break into homes and steal what people wouldn't miss, but stupidly got caught because the idiot who broke into our house and stole an old tablet packed up in our garage, was only a house down from mine and close enough to connect to our asus router. When I saw the request to connect by a device that should be dead after 4 years boxed up, did a gps and not only shocked to see it in my neighbors home, but the amount of times they went back and fourth between not just our home, but other neighbors as well. Pd was going to call it a civil matter, but quickly changed when I activated the very loud siren sound I had saved as a location ringer. Look on their face was priceless. Anyways, not sure if getting a new sim is in order, or just make the seller replace the phone in question as the whole mess with my kids phone is baffling.

Activation Issues

Went by the store and picked my TB up this morning (was the first one to get one there), and they are having activations issues here in NC and TN. Great late launch day, lol.
Hardware looks great, and I'm up and running on wifi just to get my stuff loaded, but no incoming or outgoing calls till they get it sorted out.
I was the first one in my store as well. It took a while to get activated. Now I'm home and the data connection seems to be off and on.
Took about 15 mins to activate this morning.
I ended up restarting phone and it connected to Google immediately. Took a long time to get the rep to listen to me though.

Mine seemed to activate fairly quickly, about 5 minutes or so.
Got mine an hour ago. No issues here in Northern NJ. Wow this phone is great!
I'm still out, just put a call in to our local office and my rep is going to check on it. Just playing with the phone it's definitely MUCH better than my Inc was, now to just get root & s-off, and get rid of some of this bloatware, lol.
Took 30 minutes in my store...I was first again
Also the first person in, took about 15 minutes to get mine to activate. He said they were experiencing problems.
Possibly I'm close enough to NC to be included in their problems!
Same here with slow activation in Indiana. Then they couldn't swap phone numbers with my old phone (did add a line). The 4G SIM in the TBolt would not give up its assigned phone number. After half an hour they sent me home with the phone and said they would call when they had a fix. The guy just called and said I have to come in to finish it because the fix is to program a new SIM to swap the numbers.
Data working fine, though.
They got it sorted out about an hour ago, so now I'm running... Now comes the ordeal of moving my stuff from the old phone to the new.
First one purchased at my store. 3hours to activate. Could of been longer but did a batt pull and solved to problem...no thanks to anyone at the store. They had to activate my X on one if my unused numbers so I could do business while I waited. Wasn't happy! Otherwise this phone is all its cracked up to be. Finally have a phone I can keep for a while (grain of salt). I'm in Greensboro/High Point/Winston Salem NC market.

Same thing happened to me. They just gave me a new sim card. took more than an hour to get done.
Mine took about 20 minutes to fully activate, but that was mainly due to an issue with Sprint not allowing my old number to port to Verizon easily.
The guy next to me was trying to get his Thunderbolt activated and he mentioned to me that he had been waiting 30 minutes before I came to the desk. He wasnt very happy when I left before him.
My activation took over an hour but the issue was with the porting of my sprint number.

Was in the store for over 30 minutes still activating. Ended up restarting and activated OK. North Brunswick, NJ. They said they were having major delays with tbolt activations
My activation is all messed up. Verizon activated my sim card for my number i transfered my upgrade from and my phone activated for the number i transfered upgrade to. now they said it could take up to 48hrs to have sim activation transfered.
Same here...Took 1.5hrs to port my number from t-mobile to Verizon. They said their system wouldn't work with the tb and they had to call to activate. Verizon then couldn't port my number because the names didn't match on both VZ and Tmobile...BB called bs and had to then create a temp number then port over latter on. It was a mess, good thing I was first @ 11AM and no one was there. They had 28 units and only 5 preorders.
I was @verizon when they 1st opened up @10am here in cali.. took them an hr to get everything all done.. Activated then had to tranfer to my current line from the add a line... now things are working fine, bye bye Dinc and D2G
Picked mine up at Best Buy, took about an 45-1hour to activate. I was the first TBolt they sold so I guess I got to be the guinnea pig. I had an upgrade on another line I was transferring to my line. They had to activate one sim with that number then switch the sim out and activate another for my number. Luckily they let me know ahead so I could give my daughter a heads up her phone may go out. Loving this phone so far!!

[SOLVED]Activation Issues?

Is it just me or is anyone else having activation issues?
First, I tried activating it with the DEC numbers on the side of the box. Showed up the right Evo4GLTE but it told me I had to contact customer support.
Contacted chat support. They did the ESN swap for me easily but the phone never activated. After waiting and waiting it didn't activate so I decided to call Sprint and get transferred to Tech because I already went through the initial troubleshooting steps with Chat Online.
Tech support tells me to read the HEX or DEC number from the back of the phone. This ends up being DIFFERENT then whats on the label on the outside of the box. Stupid me. Or was it? She goes on to tell me that MY phone is under some other persons name "Karen". She asks me if I got this phone from someone basically implying that I stole it. I explain to her how we've all been waiting for a long time for this phone and this phone is BRAND NEW not even out in stores yet.
So whats the deal? I'm currently on hold with them but to be honest I think HTC or someone ****ed up in the labeling process and now everyone is trying to activate EVERYONE ELSE'S phone. WTF?!
More on this as the story unfolds.....
Update #1: Supervisor in the activation department says that someone screwed up and put the phone in the wrong box and since it's "keyed" into my account... simply switching the esn to my account wouldn't work. He goes on to say that they would have to get me a NEW DEVICE.
No way in hell am I going to let this happen.
Update #2: Had to get transferred to escalations. Janice from escalations told me she had fixed the issue and I should be able to activate it now through the website. Activated it on the website and now I have a functional EVO4GLTE!!
TLDR: Make sure you activate it with the the numbers found on the inside of the phone. Do not use the numbers from the label because they might be different!
when i talked to the guys at my best buy they told me that sprint was having problems activating the lte's today... But i havent picked mine up yet so i dont know..
I had to call them to activate mine as well. Everything worked fine after 10 minutes of the agent doing something while I waited. Sorry to hear about your issue regarding an already activated account though, that sounds quite annoying.

Did the phone start an activation process when you booted it AFTER you entered the DEC number on the web.
If it did not try doing an Update Profile.
I have not tried mine yet. But I just swapped phones around last night and sometimes you need to kick it.
Oh try pulling the battery, just kidding
I wonder if Karen works in Customs.

Yes. I probably should make that more clear on my original post. Activation screen popped up but it never activated because I entered in the RIGHT number that was on the label but the phone had a different set of serial numbers.

Apple strikes again?
Tried the activation menu when it popped up on the phone. I got all the way to the end when it asks to pick which number on the account to activate it to and then failed.
Called in and they were having a little trouble saying something about the phone being applied to a different number on my account. She started to say something about checking that number and then said "oh its the same number".
I'm wondering if it has something to do with LTE or if the device is registered in their system a little different. She couldn't even tell what device it was untill I told her. Then she started asking questions about it. She said there were only a few demos floating around and most reps had never seen one.
Everything's working great so far.

I had the same thing and was able to activate via chat.
I tried to activate online, and it also told me I needed a new plan (coming from the OG EVO.) I had the Everything 450 plan. It gave me a few selections, including the same plan, so I chose it. Then it said I need to call Sprint.
I spent the next 45 minutes on the phone, while the CSR tried to figure out why it was telling her I needed a new plan, and it wouldn't let her transfer the service. Finally, after she said they had 3 people working on it, they figured out that Google Voice was the problem.
She said they'd have to "expire" my Google Voice account, and they weren't sure if I could keep the same GV number when I installed it on the new phone. I told them to go ahead, and it worked. I just installed GV, and it seems to be working fine, with my original number.
She said they'd look into why Google Voice was causing a problem.
Not just you
I also had my evo LTE switched with another persons, it just so happened that that other person was my sister who was sitting next to me getting her phone activated. When she was on the phone with the call center to activate it I noticed all of a sudden "my phone" was activated with her number.

I had the same thing happen to me. I guess when they were verifying the patent they didn't make sure they put the devices back in the correct box. Spent 4 hours with sprint, and 5 different people before they figured out what was going on.
They never told me that they couldn't swap the devices, it was pretty easy once they figured out what had happened. Now it is fully functional
if you were paying attention, and they made you enter a code to edit your MSN, the code they gave you was your MSL. i had a lady tell me three times she couldn't give me my MSL, then followed it with 'now, enter your MSL, it's blah blah blah.' when i asked if the number she just gave me was in fact my MSL, she said 'hold on, you need to speak with my supervisor', then hung up.
that number will make everything easier. i've never had an issue getting it on my other phones, but apparently something has changed . she was adamant about not giving it to me, until she had to.
I thought you had to wait x amount of days before they can just give it to you

[Q] Anyone else having issues with GPS and Google Maps?

I have been noticing that my Google Maps has been crashing on me every time I open it fresh out of memory. I sent a report to Google waiting for an update. I updated to the newest version; I downgraded; I rebooted the phone; tried it on 3G and WiFi; and did different combinations of Locations settings. All the same results. The GPS radio animation comes on and the radius is slightly off and wide. I tried the GassBuddy app, which has a map feature, and the errors are more pronounced. Only good side is this app doesn't crash like Google Maps.
Could this be a defect with my unit? If so, I want a replacement!
Or could this be a firmware issue?
Update...
Short version
After almost 3 hours of talking to different Sprint departments and one repair store over the phone, I was finally able to get a replacement phone. Now the waiting game
Long version
After doing some research, I decided to install an app called GPS Test. I was able to clear and update the AGPS data. Rebooted and opened up Google Maps, and still the same inaccurate location and wide radius, and freezing and ultimately crashing.
As a last resort I did a "Factory data reset", erasing everything I had customized and installed... to no avail. Still the same darn issue, leading me to finally call Spring Customer Care. After telling them and a supervisor that the "nearest" Sprint repair store is too far away for me to visit to have my phone physically looked at (I take public trans and the nearest one would have taken me over an hour to get to), they finally connected me to a Sprint technician.
The Sprint technician was so Yeah that was the face I made. He told to power off my phone and take off my battery. I was like, "Uh... the battery is not removable (at least easily)". And he was like, "Oh it's not. Okay just turn it off". He also said that in order to go to the settings menu, I needed to press the "Menu" button. THE MENU BUTTON! He clearly hasn't been trained with the new HTC EVO 4G LTE, since these phones and native ICS devices don't have menu buttons anymore. I Already knew what type I was dealing with.
He called me back after pushing something over the air on my phone. It updated some profile thing and some other network settings. I thought... great! Maybe that's all it needed.... Nope. Opened Google Maps and same thing happened. GPS not locking and Maps freezing.
At this point, I was 100% convinced that this was a hardware issue unique to my phone. I have been searching online at other forums, and judging by the lack of replies to this post, I'm the only one having issues with this particular HTC model. The technician was convinced that a Sprint repair store will solve the problem. He told me that I needed to take it to a repair store and have it looked at. I told him it's too far of a commute for me. I highly doubt they have the phone on hand, and I doubt they will somehow be able to magically fix a hardware issue. He insisted otherwise anyway and said that he created a ticket for me to explain the issue.
Frustrated, I called the "nearest" Sprint repair store and, once again, explained what's going on and what I've done so far. Again, like all of the other people I talked to, she was like, "Wow, you have the new EVO 4G LTE phone. That's so cool." I rolled my eyes, thinking give me a darn replacement phone... She proceeded to tell me that they don't have those phones in stock (OMG NO SURPRISE) and they don't have any software that would be able to troubleshoot that phone. If they did, they would have done an exchange. So even if I had gone there, I would have just wasted my time. She advised me to call Sprint Customer Care... AGAIN.
Called Customer Care again, gave them the rundown of all the runaround I'm going through, and the guy who picked up said that they understand about my issue, but he advised me that the best way would be to go about this was to go to try another Sprint store... And I'm thinking, wow, so you want me to try a different store that's even further from me, and you honestly think they'll have this phone in stock let alone software to troubleshoot it. I told him um, I highly doubt any other store will give me a different result.
After talking some sense into him, he finally had me talk to an even higher supervisor of some sort. The manager/supervisor said, "Yeah you would need to bring it back to the original store you bought it from... You bought it at RadioShack right?" And I was like "No. no. no. I bought my new phone online, via Sprint? I pre-ordered it. I got my OLD EVO 2 years ago from RadioShack, but not this." He was like, " oh okay I can see that." He finally said that he'll be able to connect me to some Order Processing department. I'm thinking, this better be the final line...
Nope. I was transferred and I was told by this new guy he knew the issue with my phone. He understands that because the technician had deemed it a hardware issue, that he would be able to get my problem resolved. He put yet again on hold, because he was trying to contact the last department, I wanna call it, JUST-GET-ME-REPLACEMENT-PHONE department. After 10 minutes of holding, a very-important-sounding told me that he apologized that I was having issues. He wanted to make sure everybody is enjoying their devices with no interruption. I'm thinking, YES! GIVE ME NON-DEFECTIVE DEVICE please!
After talking with this important guy, he finally assured me that they will be processing a return kit and a replacement phone to be shipped to me. He did say that because the HTC EVO 4G LTE is still not officially out, that I may expect delays. Great... even more waiting.
Did you try ##GPSCLR# or is it ##CLRGPS# one of those two. You need your MSL.
Tried ##CLRGPSX# . Nothing popped up. I tried downloading MSL reader but these types of apps require root. Like I mentioned I used an app called GPS Tools which have options to cler GPS data, but still the same.
At this point I think I've tried every practical steps to try to diagnose and resolvthe issue. I paid over $200 to get this device up and running. If I'm gonna be stuck with it for the next 2 years, I think I deserve all of the promised basic features to be working from day one. No relying on rooting and downloading or applying a third-party fix.
I was just unlucky.
Call sprint to get your msl number. You got the letters mixed up. It's ##gpsclrx#
Sent from my lair.
Thanks for the advise guys. Although I could have bothered to get in touch with Sprint for the millionth time to get my MSL, I decided to just wait for my replacement phone. I wasn't going to hassle them anymore than I have already, and nor was I going to bother rooting the defective item. As much I love rooting and flashing new roms (Mik fan) on my OG Evo, I think I'm going to wait a while to do it on this EvoLTE.
Good news is it came today. Even though they kept saying there's been a hold on the shipment and they have no idea when it would ship out, Sprint shipped it overnight over UPS Tuesday night, and I got it today at 9:30 am Pacific Time. Thank you Sprint! Must be partly due to the fact that the ban was officially lifted.
Genuinely glad I made that move, though. For the indoor test: I used GPS Test app on my replacement phone and the GPS service starts up a whole faster. It's able to connect to more and satellites and therefore get accuracy of up to 20-30 feet. Comparing that to the first phone that would take at least 20 seconds to latch on, and take another 30 seconds to connect to more than 4 satellites. And even then, it would only get an accuracy of at most 90 feet, most of the time it was just way off.
In terms of the Google Maps app, there is no doubt that Google needs to update it for the EVO LTE because there are still some bugs, but alas I don't get it freezing on me anymore while GPS service tries to locate me and eventually crash.
Outdoor test, I get all of these goodies, but 5x faster. Definitely happy I made the switch. I'm new to this city and I need my Maps to be working at all times!
Peace.
Google Maps was updated today. I was having tons of issues with Google Maps, but after today's update it is working 100%!! **** YEAH!!

Spinning Gears of Death

Started having trouble today after receiving the HERE Drive App. It worked for about half a day and then started to force close on it's own. I tried every combination of getting the App to work... it would launch the app start screen then close. I did phone restarts and soft resets to no avail. So I backed up my data and did a hard reset. 2 hours later, I staring at the spinning gears screen. I took it to AT&T and after explaining to him what happened and what I did to fix, he commenced to waste another hour of my life until he finally got on the phone with a Nokia tech rep. I spoke to the Nokia rep for a few moments and he basically said the only way to fix is to send it in to Nokia for repair (minimum 10 business days). So I said, what about my phone service?... to which he replied in a slightly crass tone that it "wasn't his problem". After that, the AT&T salesman looks at me and says nothing... just gives me the "maybe if I ignore him he will go away look". At which time I told him I want my phone line and data line turned off in the interim at no penalty to me. So he says, don't you have an old phone you can use?... to which I say, no, I want my phone line and data line off. So he says, well you can use this p.o.s AT&T phone in the meantime... to which I say, no, I want my phone line and data line off. He finally refers me to the warranty store to get it replaced. 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back, crap service by AT&T, and an attitude by Nokia. Tomorrow, I get to go through this entire process again at the warranty store to try and get my phone replaced. Not a happy customer right now.
If there is a Microsoft store near you, please take it there before doing anything else. Be nice to them. The one near me replaced mine with the SGoD no questions asked. I was given a brand-new, not refurbished one, and I'd had it since launch. They also replaced the replacement as that one had light leak.

Track stolen phone if turned off??

I believe my girlfriend's phone (verizon M8) may have been stolen, and also turned off, or put into airplane mode. I can not find any info about options for tracking it down if it doesn't have service currently turned on. She says it was taken from a desk in her office. She called the phone immediately but it was on silent. A few moments later, it started going straight to voicemail, and has been ever since (since yesterday afternoon). The phone had 3/4 battery. No luck with Device manager either, since it must be either off or in airplane mode. Only thing we can think of is that it either somehow got destroyed, turning it off, or someone stole it and placed it in airplane mode. She had no password protection, which makes this all quite scary that someone could be going through all of her info on the phone.
Any advice is highly appreciated.

Youre probably out of luck. If anyone wiped it and uses a new google account then google wont track it under your girlfriends account.
Probably need to notify Verizon and wait until someone tries to activate it.

She has insurance so isn't a giant deal if someone wipes it. Much more worried about stolen pictures, info, etc. As far as I can tell, if they have it in Airplane mode, they have free reign to view everything in her phone. Have already notified Verizon and will be filing a police report as well.
Not sure what her office atmosphere or security is like. But unfortunately its not an uncommon event where thieves walk around office buildings pretending like they work there, and steal laptops, phones, etc. To gain entrance, they will even "piggyback" behind an employee, after the employee has swiped their security badge at an entrance. Which is why my building is strict about checking the badge of anyone that tries to piggyback behind you, if you don't recognize them.
Although of course it also possible it was stolen by someone that works in the building.
I'd absolutely report to Verizon, so they can blacklist the phone (does Verizon do that?). And report to the building management/security. They might have security camera footage, or at least get the word out to the office that a thief is around.

It's a well known engineering firm, which makes it so crazy that someone in her office would do that. She has had half the office helping her out with no one able to find anything. No one can get in the office without a badge, as you said. Unfortunately, the only security cameras are in the staircase, not the room she was in. I just can't imagine a fellow employee would risk their career on this, but no other scenario really makes sense to me.
Verizon has flagged the phone already, so that's good.
